After Effects :: Turning Imported Shape Into A Mask
Nov 13, 2013This is probably an AE 101 question.
I have a shape that was made in Illustrator. See right. It's the thought-ballon-y-looking thing.
The everything outside of the black part is transparent. I want to use this shape as a mask so that another comp will appear inside the balloon shape, but not outside the shape.
Easy to do?

Sep 9, 2013He wants me to take an image (Its just a square image) and have it start in the center of the screen, and as it scales down and moves to one of the bottom corners (I've already got that part done) the image multiplies and creates a seamless circular/oval band in 3D space. He also wants this done with another image, but for this other image (also simply a square) to create a sphere as it multiplies.
Is there an easier way to do this, or am I going to have to place, manipulate and animate each individual copy of the square image to create a solid band?
Photoshop :: Unable To Scale Shape Layers Layer Mask Independent From Shape
Sep 25, 2012In Photoshop CS6, when you have a shape layer with a layer mask, and the two are not linked together, and the layer mask is selected, you should be able to scale the layer mask independently of the shape. What actually happens is the shape gets scaled and the layer mask stays untouched. In fact, even if you option-click on the layer mask to show the mask by itself, and then try to scale it, you still end up scaling the shape instead of the mask. Even if you go as far as to make a pixel selection of the layer mask and attempt to scale the pixels, the shape still gets scaled and the layer mask still stays put! Unbelievable!
This works correctly in CS4, but not in CS6 (don't know about CS5).

Aug 31, 2013This is something I recently wanted to do, but found that the clipping in Edge Animate only allows us to make a square or rectangle shape. I'm pretty disappointed by this because technically you can make a circular, or elliptical, clip shape using HTML5 and CSS3. Also, the same is true for masks. I would love to see this as a future update in Edge Animate because I can see a few more instances where I would want to use clipping, or masking, in this way.

AutoCad 2D :: Shape / Text Mask
Mar 6, 2013In vectorworks, you can mask or fill a shape so that whatever behind the shape will be mask. I find it extremely useful compare to Autocad where I have to keep trim and extend for every change.

As for the text, the dimension text can do color fill where you can fill with background. is it possible to do the same for a multiline text ? I'm not familiar with any coding or add-in so if I have to use them for mask .

Aug 8, 2012I've unlinked the layer mask from the shape layer, and made sure the layer mask thumbnail is selected in the layers palette.
If I do a cmd-t on OSX to transform, Photoshop (CS6) selects the shape layer path to transform instead of the mask layer, even though the mask thumbnail is still selected and even if I have a marque selection.Is this a bug?

Jul 17, 2013I need to make an object or group transparent towards its borders.
In particular, I drew a red heart and gave it a yellow contour with 20 steps, imitating a gradient. So the heart looks like it has a gradient (from red to yellow) towards its border.
Now I need this heart to also be transparent towards the border. The transparency should begin somewhere in the red part and slowly mask everything and it should end just before the outer border, which should be completely transparent.
The radial transparency tool does not produce good results, because the heart borders are not uniformly transparent. I need a mask exactly of the heart shape.

All illustrator seems to want to do is to make a clipping mask the opposite way with the square being put inside the text. Oct 27, 2013im trying to make an adjustment to one section of my footage.i followed other instructions elsewhere about making a mask on a solid and then linking the solid to a null object, which has tracking footage (i was thinking i could motion track a mask?)
so i did that, but tracking motion doesnt work, the mask moves everywhere so i went in and moved the mask points at keyframes, which was annoying. but now i can't add adjustments to the solid where the mask is. i turned the solid into an adjustment layer but adding color correction adjustments doesn't work.
i have to use after effects by the way. basically tl:dr i need to color correct one section (or the masked part) of my footage. how can i do that in AE?
also is there an easier way to motion track something that goes completely off screen or out of the comp window? cause its a handheld shot and theres like a pan, and im trying to track the mask but it doesnt really work or stay around the area it needs to.

Mar 9, 2014i have a shot in an office where i have a subject walking in front of some really bright windows. i added an adjustment layer and made 6 mask squares over the windows and brought down the brightness a bit. of course when the subject walks in front of those windows you can see the shaded mask on him.
im not sure what you call it but what do i do to him to keep the mask from showing on him?
not sure if i should make another thread but ill ask this as well in here...in the same shot because of the bright windows originally the rest of the scene inside the office is dark. how do i brighten the rest of the scene without affecting the windows? i tried duplicating the adjustment layer with the 6 masks and inverting them so i can brighten everything but windows but no matter what i did i couldnt get it to work.

Jan 22, 2014is it possible to move a layer (with a mask) without affecting its mask position and without precomposing the layer? Much like in Photoshop, where you can achieve this by using vector masks. Let`s say I have a video-layer that has a square mask added to it. The mask is already perfectly positioned in the comp. I don`t want to move or adjust it any further. But I`m not pleased with the framing of the source material. If I`m moving the frame then, the masks moves along with it. Is there a way to get rid of this cohesion of mask and layer?

I created this logo in Illustrator. I made my basic shapes with a pen tool, put a vector grunge texture over the top of the shapes and then used "make opacity mask" to get my grunge effect. As you can see in the screenshot of my illy it is all very clean and looking like it should. When you open my other picture you can see that once I transferred (cmd+copy cmd+paste) the logo into PS you can now see faint lines of where the shapes used to be *highlighted in red*. I also tried placeing the .ai file in ps but got the same effect. I am using all pantone colors on the logo, both documents are set to 300 dpi....err I cant think of anything else. PS is in RGB, Illustrator is in CMYK (but using Pantone)
How do I get my logo to look as good in PS as it does in Ilustrator?

Feb 14, 2013I have a pretty simple design. Some text and shapes all expanded and turned into outlines. I have one shape that was created by using a clipping mask. I am putting a vector distress pattern over the whole design (like I usually do and it works fine) well I merge them together and everything is completely fine except the shape created with the clipping mask it disappears..
more info: i actually released the clipping mask and I am still having the same problem with this object, it disappears when merged with the vector distress pattern.

As you can see in the picture i have a light blue background that has a circular shaped mask, and everything happens inside this mask in multiple layers on the back.
my problem is i want this mask to be animated, and to have a watercolor felling. so i thought of using video footage of ink, you know the typical video of ink falling into water and sort of expanding.
i have no problem making the video appear inside the ink stain, but my question is: is there a way to make a video follow the shape of an object? so i can make this ink footage adapt to different mask forms, for example a circle or a triangle, or even more complicated forms like, i dont know a human silhouette?
i am thinking something that stretches the video along a path with the shape of the object may be the solution.
Illustrator :: Clipping Mask Not Working - Shape Filled With Solid White
Sep 10, 2012I have created a compound path in illustrator and when I try to make a clipping mask, rather than revealing the image behind the path, the shape is filled with solid white. I am able to successfully make the mask using one shape or the other, but once I create the compound path, I just get this white fill.
I am in CS5 on Mac OS X (Snow Leopard). See screenshots below.

After Effects :: How To Animate Tank Treads In 2D Picture
Feb 3, 2014I have a .psd picture of a tank and try to animate it in AE by rotating its wheels and tread (or track?). The only solution i have come up with is to slightly change tread layer's x and y positions in every frame, making it to vibrate. However it does not create rotation illusion which i'm after - the tread vibrates, but doeas not revolves around the wheels. If there are other solutions to make tread layer rotate around tank's wheels, i would be glad to hear about them. All 7 tank's wheels are separate layers and the tread layer is above them. The rest of the tank's layer is above tread layer
