View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm working with a procedure to render the same scene (same camera position, same light, same lens, same output size, etc) several times due material change. The number of renderings of the same object may easily reach thousands because the scene objects may receive hundreds of different materials at the same time.
Due the scale and repetition of this render process I was wondering if there is a way to pre-render what doesn't change from render to render to try to speed up the process as much as I can. The ideal solution is to do the next Render by reusing all the calculations made previously (even if I have to save a temporary render info - not sure this is even possible inside 3ds Max).
The ideal world would be having a baked max file waiting just for the material replacements and quickly generate the rendered image as fast as possible.
I know some different material properties may affect light and shadows but I think 3ds Max already separate this Render step.
My aim is to automate this process reducing the overall rendering time without wasting resources to recalculate what haven't changed.
I have included a xref scene in another file and but the xref when rendered does not respect hidden layers, hidden object OR "do not render' option set in layer manager. In other words all of the objects including the hidden ones are displayed. How I can leave my reference objects and layers in my original scene but not display them if I include the file as an xref scene.

Got this odd problem When I go to file open and open my scene it doesn't show everything in my scene.But when I go to file import it shows everything.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm exporting a simple fbx scene making sure to use the 2010 fbx version but when i import it into smoke through the import node only one node shows in the action schematic which reads 'fbx scene'.
Also it isn't showing the mesh properly, more like bounding boxes...
What is a good way to merge references back into a scene to upload to render farm?

I've got a nice ground plane and a simple grass plane with a texture applied from Photoshop. I was wondering if there is a way to paint instances of my grass object without manually duplicating and placing each individual blade of grass?
I have an SAT file that I inserted into a Conceptual Mass Family and then loaded into a Revit project. I have changed the name of the object in the Object Styles/Imported Objects dialog and assigned a unique material to it as well.
When I load it into the project its generally fine, sections/plans/elevations/section boxes work fine. When I try to update the material settings or the material it retains the original material settings. After the second attempt at assigning a new material: Crash Error Unexpected something or other Shut down.
I opened the original Mass famiily and updated the material shading once and it worked fine. I did it again and: Crash Error Unexpected something or other Shut down.
This is not my first time to use this process. Probably the fiftieth time. However it is the first time I've used it in 2014 with the new(really old) improved (fixed) materials dialog.
Is there a bug or known issue in 14 vs. 13. Am I missing a hotfix? It works on 13.
I've imported my photos into Lightroom 4.1, running on Windows 7.
My photos are organized by Year, then Month. For example, I imported a directory "2011", which contains all my photos from 2011. There are sub folders for each month, such as "April 2011".
For some reason, the sub folder "September 2011" is not showing up.
I tried to re-import that directory, and all the photos are shown as already imported.
I also (accidentally) have a "September 2011" directory in a sub-folder in my 2012 photos. I tried to move this directory to 2011, but I'm told that the folder already exists. Why isn't it showing up under 2011?
Materials do not show-up in either Iray or Mental ray Compact Material Editor mode.

I can't get the globes to show. Am I missing something, or is it some kind of faulty installation issue?
I am using Revit 2013 and have built a material library for the company I work for. It has been working fine up until about an hour ago. Now when I try to open up the material library I created it says "No assets in this library". I can't figure out why there is nothing there. And I don't want to have to recreate all my materials I already created! I can still find the file in my folders and it says theres 3930 KB of information in the file. I included a picture of what my Assest Editor and Asset Browser show when I try to open my library.

The images are on my computer but not showing up in a folder in the LR4 catalog...how do I get them into the catalog? When I try to find them, they are all greyed out and I can't move them - a message says that it seems that duplicates are already on the computer (or something like that).
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter going back to some Premiere Pro projects which contain a lot of graphics (PNG files) they don't display as the images, they display as text, which is the first font avalible in my font selection with the word 'LOGO' I don't know why this happens and other than re importing all the PNG's again i don't know how to correct this.
Admittedly the file locations have changed but when opening the project I am prompted to locate media, which i do, the media is then found with no problems. The media is also present at the correct points on the time line, but it's the same logo problem.

I am using inventor 2012 but the material library is not loading.Then i go to the Manage> Styles Editor> and clieck on color or material it only gives me the option of defualt.
The drop down box in the top right is greyed out so i cannot change this either.
It works fine on another PC just not mine.I have downloaded the material pack from the website also.
I have also changed the hardware settings. I have tried all 3 hardware settings and it makes no differance.
Running windows 7 x64, 8 gigs of ram 3.4 quad core, 128gig SSD.
Everything is up to date.When i installed the material library download the material library was working, but when i opened a file the material library went back to how it was above.
The files i am using are from models i made in inventor 2010, but there is no problem on another PC i use.
I'm trying to import a part from solidworks. I've tried opening the .SLDPRT file, converting to IGES (203 and 214), and STEP. All give the same result.
See below pictures - the Maya import has "dingleberries" where there should be a flat surface (i.e. some of the tubes extend when they shouldn't). I know imports are rarely perfect, and that's OK as long as I know how to clean things up. How can I trim off the extra surfaces that appeared after the import? I'd just use an extruded cut in SolidWorks, but I'm in a strange land with Maya.

Today when I was importing images off a memory card I noticed the thumbnails in library mode were not showing any previews, they were blank (gray) for only the recently imported items. My other folders' thumbnails are showing previews with no issue.
I am working in Lightroom 4. I am using Windows 8 on a HP laptop.
A couple of other notes about what I noticed...
1. In the import screen the thumbnails display the preview.
2. Once the import goes to the Library Mode - thumbnails are blank. Can only see the image number and any symbols indicating tags or changes to the image.
3. Loupe view I cannot get an image to appear.
4. In the Develop Mode if I click on a thumbnail down in the filmstrip (which are all blank) an image will appear in the work area and the filmstrip thumbnail will display a preview of the one I selected. The thumbnail preview will remain visible for a few moments after moving to a new image. Then it just goes blank again.
5. I was importing jpegs and dngs. Having the same problem with both of these today.
6. All the other thumbnails in folders that were in the catalog prior to today are visible and working normally.

I would like to edit the faces of a model I imported into Maya, but I cannot find the face option when I right click. When I create a polygon however, it works just fine on it. Is there any way I can convert the model into a polygon?

I have a model rigged with The Setup Machine and The Face Machine and a single material is applied to each of them. Not sure if the above is relevant, but when I tested this in a clean scene with just a sphere, everything was fine.
I then select a few faces and apply a new material to those faces. I smooth the mesh and the UVs are smoothed and the different materials appear where they should be. If I set the divisions on the polySmoothFace node to 2 or more the materials seem randomly placed across the mesh. The Uvs however, are smoothed correctly. So I then have to reassign the materials to the correct faces.
If I do one smooth mesh, then another separate smooth mesh, the materials are placed correctly.
Is this a bug or do you think something is wrong with my setup?

I do sometimes buy some objects at Turbosquid that I download as .obj files.
They are represented as a single mesh object in Maya, however when I look the material of this mesh, I see different tabs representing the different sections of the mesh with the different materials (e.g. a duck would be seen as 1 mesh, but 1 material for the body, 1 for the left eye and 1 for the right eye).
How to split up this mesh in different meshes by material ?
I use the "Polygon: Material IDs" and "Polygon: Smoothing Groups" section (located in Editable Poly) a lot. I was wondering how I could break it off as its own floating dialog box.
Ideally it would be very similar to the Material Editor. Where I can hit a short cut key to bring it up and hide it. I can drag it around and move it to a second monitor or may be even minimize it Having both the Smoothing Groups and IDs in one dialog box would be ideal.
Some of my imported photos are showing blank in preview mode before I import, reading Preveiw unavailable for this file. Does this mean when I import they wont be imported.
View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently I have Installed Autodesk Inventor Proffessional 2013 SP 1.1 Update 2 on few new systems, it is not showing correct Material Appearance (Customised Material). I observed that it is not browsing images from correct folder location.
Following image showing error.
Older systms showing correct appearnace and it takes picture from following location shown in image.
I checked Application Options>File>Design Data (Styles, etc.) for new systems showing correct folder location i.e. From User>Public Documents.

My draped image is showing as a grey material. I have realistic view turned on and materials on, but it is still showing up as grey.
The steps used were

I have created Customized Materials in Inventor 2013.When I try to apply customized material to part it is showing different result for Drop Down list and for Material Browser.
1. Picture showing appearance of part for Wood Pine from Material Browser.
2. Same Material I tried from drop down list showing following result (Customized library has checked it is in active form)
I'm using the DaylightBasin Subassembly along with the "Place Lined Material" option & it works everywhere except along the flat 0% (very bottom portion of the ditch).

Is there a way to make an editable mesh or poly somewhat transparent when a material is applied? Think of the material being a thin cloth such as nylon. You can't see directly through it, but it isn't like a thick material such as jeans etc. I also want to make this object deform like a balloon inflating, so I don't know if that will cause issues with transparency.

I have imported photos from CDs and a flash drive and have created a Collection for my portfolio. When I click on what seems like a random grouping of photos in the collection (in the Library Module), I get the error message "file xxxx is offline or missing", even though the image is showing correctly. I am unable to work on any of these images in the Develop Module.
