Some of my imported photos are showing blank in preview mode before I import, reading Preveiw unavailable for this file. Does this mean when I import they wont be imported.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am a new Lightroom3 user trying to prepare a portfolio for a juried show. I have imported photos from CDs and a flash drive and have created a Collection for my portfolio. When I click on what seems like a random grouping of photos in the collection (in the Library Module), I get the error message "file xxxx is offline or missing", even though the image is showing correctly. I am unable to work on any of these images in the Develop Module.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using Lightroom 4..i've been importing my RAW images from my external harddrive. Some show up in the catalog as ruined with a blank white section and color bands. I've checked the actual image on the external hard drive and it is fine. I've deleted the ruined files from the LR catalog, then re-imported those problem ones... still come in as white with banding. I've even tried deleting them from the catalog, then from the hard drive... then back onto the HD from the camera, then back into lightroom. Some look ok until I look at then in loupe view and the same problem happens. Mean while the images on the HD and on the camera's CF card are fine.
View 5 Replies View RelatedJust downloaded LR 5 and noticed that I cannot jump back from a Publish Service folder preview to a different folder preview in grid mode. The only way to view photos in another folder is to restart LR 5. This only happens when I am viewing photos in a Publish Service such as Flickr.
I updated from LR 4 using Creative Cloud installer.
After I updated to 3.6 I could no longer preview the pictures on the card or camera regardless of the format. Prior to 3.6 I had no problem.. I did not change ,y preferences but I checked them to be sure and can see nothing that deals with this.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThis may be related to other imported catalog bugs, but does not seem to be quite the same. In Lightroom 4, with an upgraded Lightroom 3 catalog:
1. Select a photo in Library mode.
2. Click on Develop to go to Develop mode
Screen shows "No photo selected". I cannot edit photos in Develop mode.
I can see and edit photos that are found in smart collections, but not photos that are simply in my collections from 2012, 2011, etc. folders
Map module showing a blank area, but mine works sometimes but not others and I can't see any pattern.
I've added gps coords to many photos now and it works fine when it's working but then randomly sometimes when I start LR it's just blank.
I've imported my photos into Lightroom 4.1, running on Windows 7.
My photos are organized by Year, then Month. For example, I imported a directory "2011", which contains all my photos from 2011. There are sub folders for each month, such as "April 2011".
For some reason, the sub folder "September 2011" is not showing up.
I tried to re-import that directory, and all the photos are shown as already imported.
I also (accidentally) have a "September 2011" directory in a sub-folder in my 2012 photos. I tried to move this directory to 2011, but I'm told that the folder already exists. Why isn't it showing up under 2011?
I have imported images from my Canon 5D markIII and somewhere along the way, I've made an error in the settings. The images are on my computer but not showing up in a folder in the LR4 catalog...how do I get them into the catalog? When I try to find them, they are all greyed out and I can't move them - a message says that it seems that duplicates are already on the computer (or something like that).
View 1 Replies View RelatedToday when I was importing images off a memory card I noticed the thumbnails in library mode were not showing any previews, they were blank (gray) for only the recently imported items. My other folders' thumbnails are showing previews with no issue.
I am working in Lightroom 4. I am using Windows 8 on a HP laptop.
A couple of other notes about what I noticed...
1. In the import screen the thumbnails display the preview.
2. Once the import goes to the Library Mode - thumbnails are blank. Can only see the image number and any symbols indicating tags or changes to the image.
3. Loupe view I cannot get an image to appear.
4. In the Develop Mode if I click on a thumbnail down in the filmstrip (which are all blank) an image will appear in the work area and the filmstrip thumbnail will display a preview of the one I selected. The thumbnail preview will remain visible for a few moments after moving to a new image. Then it just goes blank again.
5. I was importing jpegs and dngs. Having the same problem with both of these today.
6. All the other thumbnails in folders that were in the catalog prior to today are visible and working normally.
newly imported images not displaying an image in the thumbnail whether it is in Library Mode, Loupe View, or Develop mode.
A couple of questions. I am running the latest version of LR (4.3) in Mac OSX 10.8.2 environment. I notice that, occasionally, the previews in Library mode do not actually represent all the true images. When choosing "Show in Finder" the image is not as seen in the preview. This issue rears it ugly head only occasionally. Also, is the newest version only running in 64 bit mode? When Getting Info, I see no selection box to deselect 32 bit mode.
View 9 Replies View RelatedLast week I updated my mac to Lion and encountered a problem with lightroom 3. It wont let me preview the print in print mode now! before it did! now when i try and print, it just prints a white blank print?!
Luckily i used my macbook pro, the same problem happened in the lightroom too but it printed the image rather than blank printing
Any reason why i cant see the print preview any more?
why are all my pictures just a grey square when I try to load them into the develop module.?.No half greyed out picture just a blank space with the picture numbers beside them.They are all in the computor as they will open in Elements 11.
View 7 Replies View RelatedSo I want to import some pics and this statement comes up, " Preview unavailable for this file" see attached. I imported the pics once and then realized that I did not batch name them like I always do. So I deleted them from LR then renamed them in Bridge, then tried to important them again, it is a no go. So I have LR 4.1, I use Mac book pro, Mac os x version 10.7.4. I am pulling these pics off of my external Hard drive, I have never run into this problem before when I was using LR3.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIn the past few months, my ability to see the preview of a DNG file on my macbook pro (mountain lion - up-to-date) has been lost. I've been having some buggy issues with my computer, so this weekend I did an erase/clean install of Mt. Lion, and now I'm slowly adding everything back on. I have LR 4, and the CS5 creative suite (did all necessary updates last night on all software). I kept my fingers crossed that it's all I needed to do to finally see the DNG previews again. The major kicker is that I have access to all these files on another mac, with updated software, and I can view the previews just fine on it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI deleted a lot of old photos from my external hard drive, which seems to have messed up my link of some photos to LR. When I got on yesterday, one huge wedding collection showed the "offline or missing ?" thing but still showed the actual photo. In trying to re-link the photos to LR, I think I did two things that royally messed me up. I opened up an older catalog, which had the large wedding collection, but it now turned up the photos as totally blank. The collection still shows 2000+ photos in it, and each photo shows the little symbols that show which have been edited, and they still show the ? in the top corner, but no photo.how to reconnect the photos without messing more photos up?

Should I just uncheck the box not to import suggested duplicates and import again? I have over 4,000 and don't want them on the hard drive twice.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just discovered, that when in Library module, and viewing my photos in Fill mode, it is not sharp. It is in fact so blurry, that it is unusable. Not sure I remember it correctly, but it happened also during the tethered shooting and viewing image on secondary monitor.
Interesting thing is, that once in a Develop module, Fill mode preview is sharp. I tried different settings re preview in Catalog Settings and Preferences, but no success.
i imported images into LR3 and was about to close the catalog when i got a backup reminder popping up on my screen. so i did the obvious thing and clicked Backup. I later opened the catalog to find to my dismay, details of the each photo showing up in the Develop screen. This doesnt show when viewing in the Library mode though. so each photo has the following details showing on the upper left corner of the image
File Name-8. CR2
date and time
image size
how do i get rid of this unsightly details so i can work on the images?
Our problem with Lightroom is this: After inporting images, they do not show in the library mode. The tree view shows first image of the folder, but the library preview does not open.- Probllem is persistant and any new images after 3 weeks are not showing up.- problem is resistant, we upgraded from 5.0 to 5.3, but problem is consistant.

General process of images: Import with picasa of images, verification of image quality and rejecting failures.After all images are done, use of syncredibles program to copy new files not yet on the picasa library folder. This basicly checks and moves pictures that are currently on drive D: but are not yet on drive P. After new files are transferred, then picasa will re-import with add function on import from its own folders.

We have tried to study this problem, and first we notised that folders that houses images on both driwes, started to receve "read only" atrribute. Even tho we cleared this with user restrictions (folder security) the imported images still refuse to load the previews.Catalogue contains over 30 000 raw images.
We are starting to shoot blanks here. In short, the tree view shows first image of the folder, images are present in the system, but when you click the tree view to open up the folder, no images will refresh to center view of the screen. If pressed couple of times screen will go white, and crash LR.We have tried to "find missing files" and "folder synchronication.
I imported photos from a shoot, and after getting them into lightroom I realized the year was off in the camera. My import preset uses the year as the first part of the file naming convention. So now I want to rename the files by correcting the year in each one. Is there an easy way to do this? I suspect that unless I go through lightroom somehow, the catalog won't know where they are if I change them.
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen importing pics from a particular folder this morning, I must have accidentally asked Lr to import my photos from my desktop, but because all subfolders are listed, it's imported 27000 or so images from all over my computer. This is an absolute disaster because it's not just taken a copy, it seems to have transferred them or sucked them into Lr.
How I can undo the import?
I am using Lightroom 3.5. I imported todays shoot into Lightrooms catalogue. They were converted from raw to dng. But only when the import was finished did I notice that all my collections and photos were missing. Before I went to my most recent backup I went to my catalogue and double clicked Karls catalogue.lrcat. This restored all my collections and photos, except for todays import.
When I open Lightroom I always hold down Alt so that it opens my catalogue rather than creating a new catalogue, but I must have not pressed Alt hard enough or something because I suspect Lightroom did in fact create another catalogue. I did a search for .lrcat in windows explorer and found my catalogue and 3 backups on my external drive, however I also found Lightroom 3 Catalog.lrcat in C;/Users/Karl/Pictures on my laptop.
How can I retrieve todays import and put it onto my catalogue?
I'm exploring the 4.3 trial and have got as far as importing a few photos, then when exploring the various dialogues one of the photos has acquired a red cast and is dimmed. I can't find what I did to cause this and can't find a way of undoing it. I have done ctrl-Z all the way back but its still there.

I'd like to select certain photos from my catalog, say those with attribute >= two stars, and back them up to one of my smaller drives. It's important I back up the photos themselves - with or without a catalog - as the goal here is extra security.
Is there a way I can do this inside Lightroom?
I am using Lightroom 4.1 RC2 on a Windows 7 64 bit system with dual monitors. When I am in the develop mode and make edit adjustments on any setting the 2nd monitor does not update. If I move to another image then come back the image is updated but it does not work in real time. I have never had this problem before and it worked fine in Lightroom V4.0
View 2 Replies View RelatedLR4 in import mode shows photo files that it has labeled with a leading "_" in a muted format and states they have already been imported and will not allow importing. I have been unable to locate them by file name or date in LR or using file searches. How can I find and/or import them? Do I have to rename all the files by deleting the leading _ in the file name?
View 1 Replies View RelatedProbably a very simple problem, but I have just installed the program for the first time and do not yet know my way around it. But when I pull photos in from my digital camera directory, they immediately display a warmer orange hue. However, I have not touched any of the settings at all. If I immediately export the photo, it matches the original on my HD. So there seems to be some kind of calibration problem with the real jpeg colors and the colors on screen in Lightroom. What can I do about this?
FURTHER DETAILS:
When I hit IMPORT and have the photo selection window come up, all the colors are fine. When I select a photo and actually import it, the colors are orangey. Where the heck is this change of color coming from? All I have done is install the program! I haven't adjusted anything.
I have a Lightroom catalog on each of two different computers. Each of the two catalogs have imported photos from the same "Photos" folder on a server.
There is one main folder with hundreds and hundreds of sub folders.
The one catalog is showing 226,186 photos and the other catalog is showing 218,732 photos.
I've tried syncing the computer's catalog that has 7,454 less photos imported than the other computer but I always end up with two different totals on each computer. Very frustrating since both catalogs must match.
One computer is a Mac and the other computer is a PC (not sure that should make any difference).
Lightroom 4.4 on a Win 7 computer will not import visible jpeg photos from a chip because the files can not be read. The same photos import fine on another Win 7 computer using LR 4.4. Lightroom has been importing fine up til now.
