3ds Max Modeling :: Align User Grid To Face?

As I recall, back in the 3ds dos days you could create a grid aligned to a face of an object by simply picking 3 vertices on the face. I've never figured out how to do this in MAX. I don't need to align objects but need to move vertices around on a given tilted face.

I have been able to draw the precast concrete tanks I needed. I drew several models and saved them as WBLOCKS to insert in new drawings. The problem is that I don't seem to be able to select a particular face of the tank upon which I want to align the UCS. What am I missing with regard to blocks and UCS alignment?

Illustrator :: Why And When Using Align To Pixel Grid

Align To Pixel Grid a bit more thoroughly. I understand how to use it - to turn it on & off, but I'm a bit confused about the "why & when" of using it. F.I. I'm creating a picturebook with text. So when I export / or save for web, I'll be turning the vector art and text  as an image. My understanding is that using ATPG will eliminate the jagginess of the text that would occur, when it becomes an image, if I did not use ATPG.And conversely, if I don't use ATPG, the text will be jaggy when exported to jpg or png. Is this correct?

Illustrator :: CS5 - Align To Pixel Grid Turned Off

Illustrator CS5. I made a 32x32 pixel box, put a 32x32 artboard around it, export it at 72 ppi png, with or without antialiasing which doesn't seem to matter whether it's on or off, yet it always exports out as a 33x33 png instead of a 32x32, adding 1 pixel to each side, tested with a higher resolution, doesn't matter saves with 1 extra pixel on each side example 500x500 will become 501x501, when I look at the picture even if it's a solid color square it will make the edges transparent and ruin the picture on the edges making it hard to fix in another program after exported from illustrator. I tried something out when I searched the internet for solutions, I checked in save for web under Image Size it will say my 32x32 square is 33x33 in that screen but in the info window it is 32x32.
 
I have align to pixel grid turned off if that matters at all.
 
Sometimes when I am typing in the width and height in the transform window changing the size it was previously, example from 67.354 W to 67 and 55.271 H to 55, instead of going to 67x55 it will change itself to 67.18 and 55.084 that is an example not from an actual thing I did.

having issues with getting point sizes on lines below 1 pt. (or inbetween whole numbers).
 
read in another discussion about turning off "align to pixel grid". can only find that in pull down menu: select, object, not aligned to pixel grid. it doesn't seem to be toggling off/on.

i've never heard of this issue before. i tried opening the file in cs5 and i had the same issues.

3ds Max :: How To Select Grid Of Vertices And Align In Planar Xy Axis

I've read all I could on snaps, video tutorials, changed every setting.

the only time anything snaps is when I'm creating an object in which case I get a box and the object snaps to other objects, bounding boxes end points, etc.. (useless stuff) but it doesn't work at all otherwise, it does absolutely NOTHING while selecting an object or edible poly/mesh object vertices, etc..

I JUST WANT TO ALIGN A VERTEX TO ANOTHER VERTEX.

I've seen videos of people just dragging the axis to another vertex and that vertex automatically aligning to it... why the heck can't that work for me? I don't even get a line, nothing that looks like any tutorials out there. Everything behaves the exact same way as without snaps. you can't even tell the difference moving things around except there is a little circle at the center of the gizmo. I even checked every box in the snaps settings. It makes me want to throw the computer out the window that it takes 3 hours and still nothing works.

Ultimately I just want to select a grid of vertices and align them in a planar xy axis at the same z value as a single of my choice... why is this so impossible?

Illustrator :: Align To Pixel Grid - Unable To Put Guides

I currently have grid setup, and I am unable to put guides specificly where I want, they will either be a few pixels to the left/right of where I actually want. It seems like my guides or rectangles that I make only snap to the grid, and I do not want this to happen since some of my shapes do not fit a grid specifically. Lets say I want my rectangle to be 4.5 Grid blocks (each block being 25 px), so 112.5, it only allows me to do 4 blocks or 5 blocks. Is there a preference that can be changed so I can make free shapes without having them direct on the grid?
 
Attached an example. I'm trying to make the red box the same width and in the same position as the black and it does not let me.
 
I guess I found my solution, under the transform fly out menu when "align to pixel grid" is unchecked it fixes this.. Is there a better way to do this though?

adding a page baseline grid! I love it, but I have one problem with it. For example I set the baseline grid to 13 pt, i have text with line spacing specified to 13 pt. I right-click the paragraph text box and select "Align to baseline grid". Then the text surely is aligned to the grid, BUT the lines are spaced to every other line, instead of every line.

Illustrator :: Draw Object Without Stroke - Align To Pixel Grid Unchecked

I have a problem with my brush and pencil tool. Whenever I want to draw an object without a stroke and just a fill, it immediately assigns me a stroke in either the colour my fill is, or, if I'm using a gradient, in black. It doesn't have that problem with the pen tool though. I also checked in my presettings and my Transform plaette that the "Align to Pixel Grid" option is unchecked. Also, the "New Art has basic appearance" is unchecked.

How can 2 sub-objects (modifier gizmos in this case) be aligned to each other?

Eg:

There are 2 similar objects, with a bend modifier applied. They have different orientations, but the 2 bend gizmos should be in the same orientation. (a stack of a few papers with slightly different orientations, curled from the corner)

I know there are at least 2 options, both are not very practical.

- Play with a compass helper instead of directly adjusting the first gizmo, and align all gizmos with the compass. This is a problem if you already have the first gizmo adjusted. It's also not practical to keep the compass and the gizmos in synch. And would make fine adjustments hard, as you wouldn't see the result live.

- Calculate the parent object's orientation and the gizmo orientation to find the gizmo's orientation to the world, then calculate the target gizmo's orientation. Or make a script.

I'm trying to adjust the colour of my grid using the "Xustomize User Interface" dialog.

in Elements - Grids, I can only adjust the minor gridlines using "Set by intensity", or the major gridlines (0,0) using "set by color". There doesn't seem to be a way to adjust both elements independantly unless I'm missing something.

I'm learning how to texture a tyre. I've applied the Unwrap UVW modifier to a torus. Then I've applied Flatten Mapping. After that I've manually rearranged the surfaces as can be seen in the below picture. Now the thing is, my teacher has asked me to apply Relax tool, especially Relax by Face angles. I can't figure it out how to use it.

I'm sure I have accidently set some mode that does this, but when I select a face and do a move function, the entire object moves instead of just that 1 face.

Is there a way to do this? After perusing some threads on creating edges from vertices, the "Create" tool under "Edit Geometry" doesn't seem to solve my issue. In Blender, you can create a face by selecting at least three vertices and pressing "F". Is there anything similar to that feature in 3DS Max?

I have a large object from which 3 small legs protrude out as in the 1st picture. The faces of each of these legs are at a slight angle in world coordinates.

I have a small cylinder which I want to snap to a face seen in picture 1. My problem is that I simply don't know how to snap the cylinder's side to the face. As you can see in picture 2, a part of the cylinder is in the object, the other part is outside of the object.

I know I could use the rotate tool, but I want perfect face alignment.

Maya Modeling :: Adding Image To The Face?

I'm a beginner in Maya and have to model an object for college. I've modelled an iPhone 4 in Maya 2012 and I've added colour to it but i want to add an image to the screen face. I've added the image using lambert but the image is blown up and i don't know how to resize it. I've fiddled with the settings in '2d Texture Placement Attributes' but the only thing i've been able to do was rotate the image so it's not upside down, it's still blown up. Is there another editor window to resize it?

I've also tried using the UV Texture Editor but everything is a mess on top of eachother and everytime i move things around maya crashes . Is there any other way to add the image to the face?
