3ds Max Modeling :: Applying Banking To A Corner
May 17, 2012
I am creating a test track for my university project. I have created the loft for the track's path and am trying to apply a banking of 34deg to the corners.
However, this needs to be flat in the inside lane, and gradually build up to 34deg in the outside lane. Using the twist deformation I am only able to get a 34deg banking across the entire width of the track.

I have just got Autodesk 3DS Max 2014...I have started off trying some blueprints but can't seem to work out about bitmap and texturing the planes Basically I have made the plane the same dimensions of the image, but it either tiles the image a lot or has a very small size.Is there any way to fix this without changing the size of U & V.

I am trying to make some trim work to go on a project of mine. Im using a shape then tryig to extrude down the curve is there a way to make the corner tight or a plugin to make trim work easier. you can see in the first image what im trying to make and the second my curve and what i get when im done.

I'm trying to model a cellphone and I'd like to know what the best way is (by best I mean the way that gives me the highest flexibility later on) to add the signs and letters on the keypad.
The buttons are made out of NURBS, so I thought I might be able to use curve projections on them. However, it seems pretty tedious and after I trim the projections I end up with a hole , on a NURBS that can't be filled in.
The reason why I'd like to create the letters as independent surfaces is so I can later change the type of material, color , reflectivity and all that good stuff.
I'll attach a screen capture.

I am having a problem applying a planet surface texture to a geosphere. The problem occurs both with and without UVW mapping and it is the first time I have experienced it.(I'm assuming it is something that has been ticked somewhere that I cannot find)
The planet surface texture is a flat space view map. Usually when I apply images like these to spheres it perfectly wraps however this time it is confining the image to one "corner" of the sphere.

I have a banner heading that is more or less outlined text. I want to give all the corners a rounded corner and at the moment would just do it all by hand, one at a time. So I want to go from a to b:
But I would like to find an easy way to make all corners the same diameter regardless of the angle too.

I draw square. The 1st point and last points are left-top and finally set 5 points. The direction is clock-wise and made closed path.To get smooth-curved polygon shape, I used API 'PointsToCurves'.But, the first and last points are connected by cornered (not smooth) point. Here's result.
Maybe, I must set that square is closed path, to API, but it seems to be no parameter to set.So, I want to know how to get smooth corner shape every corner.I use SDK CS5.

As CAD administrator at my company, which is in the process of implementing Inventor/Vault, I am quite sold on the Layout Modeling/Multi-body part modeling functionality that Inventor supports. Among other things I believe there is a large payoff in assembly stability and simplicity. However, this workflow is very different from the conventional methods of modeling individual parts and manually constraining assemblies. URLs....

I am fluent in sketchup modeling but have had no success in attempting to model something similar to the crinkled wall mass in the attached image. I have d/l'ed 3dsmax for 30 trial and trying to learn on the fly, which is difficult. before i spend too much time trying to to achieve a crinkled wall mass? in my first attempt i was able to create a rectangle, add modifer of garment maker and apply cloth attributes (and ripple) to it but it's too smooth around the edges although it had amplitude to it.

I have a problem when I am modeling my character or rather the character from the animation academy. I have created an NURBS sphere and I want to adjust it to the arm, so I go to the component mode add some isosparms and then it happens!!! I can´t move any vertexes... but in the object mode I can move the hole object.

I'm an architecture student who has high interest in 3d modeling.I would like to learn how to design something in a very organic form for a change.I can model very accurately and fast what I need on Autocad most of the time, but it seems like autocad 3d modeling is not the best tool to be using for modeling something very curvy and random.
Some Examples: [URL] .....
So Basically, I want to be able to first sculpt the general exterior form I have sketched out or in my mind, and not only that, I would like to model the interior portions so I can have renders from inside the building. (Like the ons from the examples)
Although in architecture, 3D modeling comes into play after the 2d drafting, I don't think it's the same case for organic shapes. I would have a general layout sketched out on paper how the building would be formed, but not necessarily accurately measured. Then I would model the building to cut the sections through, and extract them out along with floor plans thus creating a very accurate orthographic drawings as well as gorgeous renders.or just poly edit with soft selection and other modifiers?

The best that work out was giving it a path constrain to a sphere changing to a rectangle and making some snapshot which it does not give me the specific control I need.
See image to see what I am trying to model, image is from NADAA, and am trying to do something similar to this but I can't.

How to create a quick sponge (or pores) look to an object without using materials?
Background: I am creating masonry and mortar. I need to zoom real close to the mortar so I can see the pores. Then I am going to have a blueish object pass thru the mortar to show water penetrating the mortar. Or something like that. I can't use a material to represent the look because I need to have an object pass thru it.

Right now I'm working on a preliminary horse model to test a number of theories I have about the best way I can model our carousel figures to show potential clients.
I am currently trying to place a saddle on the back of a horse and have the saddle sit snugly on the surface of the animal without passing through. Ideal, I would like for this to be something that could be animated as our goals are to build rigs in the models to show the different positions we can carve our carousel figures in.
I am right now trying the cloth modifier in order to drop a saddle-shaped place onto the back of the horse and then once that is against the surface, extrude the saddle from the plane. However this tends to cause wrinkling and would be great for the saddle blankets which will have lots of folds, including decorative folds in them (I already bookmark a great tutorial for pulling and arranging fabric).
Is there a way to tell the plane (or even the bottom faces of my sculpted saddle) to snap to the surface of the horse's back? Perhaps the surface or attachment constraints? I've tried both of those and so far have not had any luck. I'd like to avoid lining each individual vertex up if possible and I'd like to keep the objects detached for future swapping of various saddle designs.
What would the best way, in your experience, to do saddles on animals? If you have seen a carousel animal before, you are aware that they have decorative trappings covering their backs and heads. My eventual goal is to have one model of each animal we can do and to be able to swap out an assortment of trappings to show future clients what the company can do. Right now, everything is based on pictures of what we have done and drawings by the wood carvers.

I'm using oldschool 7 version and I'm very happy with it for my little needs. I'm trying to make something that is probably very simple for an expert:
As you can see the corner is fading gradually into white... while shrinking also in width (passes from 2px to 1px width).

Imagine you have a a box, say 1 foot square. You attach a fat rubber band in the center of one side and then you pull the rubber band up to an edge and around it to the center of the next face. It stretches and the corner is the only spot that controls the change of direction. If you raise one end (the segment from your finger to the corner) it raises, but the segment from the corner to where the other end is attached stays flat on the box until you move your hand far enough away so that there is now no wrap around the edge. Now if you pull and relax, it acts like any normal rubber band. But then if you lower your fingers with the end you are holding and go back down to the face, you wrap around that corner again and can pull and relax around the corner.
What I'm actually doing is animating a muscle that goes around a bone when it's stretched out. But when it's contracted, one end moves out away from that bone it's wrapped around and it's now just a straight line. I need to animate that muscle from that contracted and straight position to the extended position but have the end of the muscle bend around the bone when it hits it.

Modelling a solid in AutoCAD 2008, I am a " good enough " user of AutoCAD in 2D ( at least for what I need ) but almost a beginner at 3D modelling.
I can't get a cube corner rounded. The portion of the corner that is to be subtracted from the box is defined by three arcs, each one at a different face, you can see more clearly what I mean if you see the attached file:

Is there a way to add a Corner Anchor Point to an exisiting path. The Add Anchor Point tool always creates a smooth point, which I then have to go back and convert to a corner point. Seems to me, in earlier versions, I was able to use the Pen tool, then hold ALT and click twice to achieve this. CS6 doesn't respond to that procedure. Is there some other trick?

I know just enough to get by in Photoshop but have had zero training, so I tend to jimmy rig everything until it looks okay. I am stumped on this one though.
I bought a web template and am modifying the images to what I need them to be. I can not for the life of me figure out how they did this rounded corner and shadowing on the corner. I can easily, manually copy the two lines going up the sides of the image. (Jimmy rig) ... but I can't seem to get the corner to look right.
I know it looks like a drop shadow, but you'd need to know all the colors and exact settings to copy that drop shadow and all i have is the finished product.
