3ds Max Animation :: Slow Curve Editor Due To Rig

Mar 21, 2011

So i've rigged some characters for a school project. Now when I start animating it's fine, but when I've animated a bit (3-4 key poses) and I want to adjust things in the curve editor, the curve editor is really slow. Can take up to 3 min to adjust a block of keys.

Now the scene it self is running ok, and I'm using proxy meshes to get more speed, so I guess the problem is in the rig. Is there any way to trouble-shoot my rig, and optimize it to gain more speed?

3ds Max Animation :: Loop Animation - Distance Of Stripes Controlled By Curve

Aug 3, 2012

i need to do a loop animation of several stripes that starts at lets say 2units distance from each other, they separate slowly and by the end they have 15units separation, my problem is that each stripe is a separate object, so i offset their keyframes, but when i want to tweak the keys on curve editor they dont apply to the other copies. Any other way to do this simpler?

quick example on the image attached, real application on the video, video shows the animation(rendered sequential images of 1 loop then applied as texture) but with linear speed, so constant separation, i need to apply the above here, these dont only move on the X axis but on the Y aswell, while keeping the symmetry fixed on the center.

3ds Max :: Curve Editor Is Blank?

My Curve Editor has gone virtually blank except World shows up. Nothing else. No curves, no keys, no scene objects. NOTHING! I'm experienced with it but alas, I am stumped. I've tried every combination of Curve Editor settings. I've also erased the 3dsmax.ini file. Older files exhibit the same absence of data. Used to work!

3ds Max :: Curve Editor Slows Playback

Sep 15, 2011

If I have Curve Editor open and I playback my animation (fairly complex character) by clicking "Play Animation" button, animation won't run smoothly.

Curve Editor Open (minimized and or maximized) = 6 fps
Curve Editor Open while dragging time slider manually = 15 fps
Curve Editor Closed = 28 fps

Also if I have "Statistics" info shown (shortcut 7) to see fps, it will slow playback about 40% more.

Would be nice to have some sort of fix on these As an animator having to close Curve Editor all the time is annoying.

3ds max 2012 was great leap towards better and faster experience, but there are still tons of old bugs and "still not working very well", like random numbers in reaction manager, or having different keyboard shortcuts for Edit Poly modifier or Editable Poly mesh (please combine). Graphite Modeling Tools was good addition, but would be nice to have it integrated completely with tools found in Edit Poly modifier and Editable Poly. Chamfer also needs upgrading, it still doesn't work very well with more complex places.

3ds Max :: Curve Editor - Flickering Button And Cursor

Apr 1, 2013

I am attempting to use 3ds Max 2013 at my job, and I have run into a rather painful bug/problem. Every time I open the curve editor, my cursor starts flickering between normal pointer image and hourglass, the buttons in the top of the editor flicker randomly, and I cannot select and type anything in the input boxes in top or bottom. All this flickering lasts for about 10-20 seconds, which is not a long time if it just happened once, but I have noticed that it happens after every time I move a key. What 3ds Max goofed up to cause this problem?

AutoCAD 2013 :: DataLink Manager Editor Is Extremely Slow

Feb 21, 2013

I have yet another very unique issue that has not been mentioned anywhere else that I would like to bring to the discussion table. We have a very large project that involves several different areas of design.  Each building has it's own set of cables that need to be pulled to the location so we have quite the extensive lists of cable schedule.  All of this information is in a single Excel file which is datalinked into separate drawings.  Every building has its own datalink.

For the sake of flexibility, we needed to centralize all the data into one excel file.  We then use a macro to split up all the data by building.  Each building is copied to its own worksheet (tab) in Excel.  AutoCAD then datalinks to that worksheet using the option of "Use whole Worksheet" in the Datalink definitionDid I mention there are over 80 buildings?  That means an Excel file with over 80 tabs.

So for every building package in AutoCAD, there is a separate drawing just for cable schedules which includes a table style that uses the datalink to this excel file.  We replicate quickly by coping/pasting a template file, open it and go to datalink manager, and modify the datalink by changing the tab name in the drop down menu.  Since we're linking the entire sheet, it's extremely convenient.

After adding in a lot of worksheets, AutoCAD takes about 10 minutes to open the Datalink Manager Editor to change the link from one tab name to another.  I've tried getting rid of all but two tabs in the excel file (the current target and the one I want to change it to), but to no success.  There is a direct correlation between the quantity of worksheets and the speed of getting the Datalink Editor open, but we're talking between 10-30 minutes.  The excel file is only 1.3 MB.  Any insight with the inner workings of the datalink manager?

I should also mention that just updating an existing datalink is not all that painful.  It's usually about 5 seconds to bring in a full table's worth of data from the same excel file with ALL the tabs.

3ds Max :: Properly Animate Material Color Change Using AutoKey And Curve Editor?

Mar 10, 2013

correct process for animating a Material color change using AutoKey and the Curve Editor.

Right now, I am only able to crudely manipulate the color change by setting the material color change while the AutoKey is active.

The problem is that I am unable to control the speed/time at which the color change actually transpires in the scene.

So far, the only solution I have found, is to set the color change hundreds of frames after the point at which I want the color change to actually occur.

Normally, I would go into the curve editor and and manipulate the keys for the color change to slow or speed up the transition, and to control the exact timing.

However, even though I am able to locate the color change key(s) in the Curve Editor, I either do not know how to properly manipulate them, or I don't know what keys I actually want to manipulate.

I am accustomed to sliding keys left and right and using null keys to hold a key frame (in the this case the color prior to change, which is grey, and then the color after the change, which is fuchsia. however sliding keys around in the curve editor, when I have the "fuschia" key(s) selected (I misspelled the name, so in the file it is "fuschia" not "fuchsia"), does not seem to affect the actually timing of the color change.

FYI, the material that I am attempting to animate is the "fuschia" material in the Compact Material Editor.

3ds Max Animation :: Map One Parameter To Another Using Curve

Feb 8, 2012

The reaction manager is an extremely cumbersome way to map one parameter to another, especially if you want a precisely defined mapping curve.

In Cinema4D (a program I'm learning at the moment) there is a range mapper node that can use a spline as mapping curve to map an input parameter to an output parameter.

Is there a way in Max to map one parameter to another using a precisely defined curve?

3ds Max Animation :: Nodes Of A Curve To Other Objects

Nov 4, 2013

I am trying to hook some nodes of a curve to other objects.  Looks like Spline IK Control modifier is a best thing for that  and works great.

My only problem is that when I need to make a copy ( not instanced) of the whole curve and hooked objects  the curve unhooks of those objects and switches to it's original shape.

For example I need to make a group of telegraph posts connected by wires and then copy that whole group to another place,. All the wires turns into a mess.

Is there anything I am missing?   I am accustomed to use similar  "hook" approach in Blender and curves stay intact there. Should I use some other way in 3dsmax?

AutoCAD 2010 :: Slow Jerky Mouse Movement After Accessing Block Editor Or Xref-editing

May 19, 2009

This was originally posted under 2009 - but I have this issue in 2010!

The old post was: Block Editor Posted: Aug 1, 2008 7:01 PM

When I go into block editor, edit the block then close it out. My cursor is really jerky in model space. Especially bad when I go into a command and try to select something. The only way to get rid of the jerkiness is to close auto cad and restart it. Is there anyway to cure this?

I have 2010 and am experiencing this exact same problem. It is intermittent and will sometimes 'go away' after a few minutes. Block editing is definitely related as a cause. I use SDI = 1 predominantly and it seems to be session independent. In other words one drawing session is experiencing the problem but jumping to another concurrent session exhibits no issues.

Task manager shows off the chart 99% plus on process ACAD when it is occurring.

Palette transparency is off globally. I have installed the latest NVidia driver for my Quadro NVS 285 video card. I am running a 3GHz P4 with 4 Gigabytes of ram - Dell Precision 380 workstation. Block Editor background color is default.

Restarting AutoCAD does make it go away - for the moment - but it is soon back. Even closing all tool palettes has no effect.

This does seem to be drawing specific - 2010 seems to be sensitive to something in older drawing blocks - prototype drawings from hotel vendors for instance - most likely inherited from a third party DXF process exhibit the issue heavily - and blocks from these drawings to a lesser degree. I have to constantly purge, audit, and wblock/replace my drawings to keep them clean. My default file type is 2010 which 'seems' to work, but it still happens. Audits show constant drawing errors cropping up, and repeating an audit, shows the same errors until a wblock replace is performed.

3ds Max :: How To Render A Super Slow Motion Animation

Jan 30, 2012

I have an animation of a wine glass breaking. I simulated it using mass FX and particle flow. I will import it to After Effects, add finishing touches and render out a super slow mo clip like you would see on Discovery HD or Time Warp. In essence, I want it to look like it was shot on a high speed camera.

I tried a test render out of max at 960 fps and importing into AE at 25fps but the results aren't quite white I want.

My question is, what frame rate do I render the animation out inside 3ds max and what frame rate do I import/interpret it in After Effects?

Maya Animation :: Constraining Curve Points To Geometry?

Apr 20, 2012

How can I make a curve's end points constrain to objects in order to create a "theta" angle line that changes dynamically when the angle between the two objects changes?

I thought they answer may have lay in creating the curve using Maya's new Bezier Curve tool, then using the Rivet plug-in from CreativeCrash to pin it to the middle of two poly cylinders (the "x" and "y" axis.) Unfortunately this doesn't work; the Script editor spits back "is not a vertex!". Either I'm not using Rivet correctly or the end points of a Bezier Curve in Maya are not the same as a CV Curve. But perhaps I'm going about this the wrong way entirely.. I ultimately would wish to extrude geometry about this curve to create a dynamically changing curved cylinder to visualize the angle. It seems like it should be a relatively simple thing to do...

Maya Animation :: Create Curve Based On Path Of Object?

Mar 10, 2011

I am doing some animations involving sine waves, and I can make an expression that controls the translation of an object such that it travels along the path of a sine wave, but I can't figure out how to dynamically create an editable sine wave curve.

Is there a way to have Maya generate a curve based upon the path that an object travels upon?

For instance I have a sphere that is moving along the X axis with time, and also moving up and down on the Z axis back and forth. I would like to make an editable curve object of this path of motion.

I can see in Maya 2012 we will have motion trails where we can see the actual path an object is moving along, and that we will be able to interact with this path to alter the animation, but what if we could take that path and make it an actual curve or NURBS object?

Maya Animation :: HumanIK With Graph Editor?

May 30, 2013

I am using HumanIK with Graph Editor to animate my character. First I create pose to pose and then I go to the Graph Editor to set the timing of the animation. In the Graph Editor I drag select multiple keys to get the timing correct. Then I go to the timeSlider and copy/paste keys to make some tweaking. And here we have the problem! When I copy key/keys all are good, but when I am going to paste key/keys Maya give me a fatal error!

Reproducible:

Make a default skeleton from the Character Controls menu and then make a Control Rig. Select HipsEffector set keys on frame 1, 12 and 24. Then in the Character Controls menu go to the Controls tap and left mouse click in the empty space next to the Character image to select all. Now open up the Graph Editor and select all the keys on frame 12 and with the Move Tool shift middle drag the keys to the right.

If you at this point go to the timeSlider and copy key frame 12 and paste it somewhere in the timeSlider Maya gets a fatal error pop up.

If the action shift middle drag with the Move Tool hasn't been used then Maya haven't popped up with the fatal error!
