Xara :: Unable To Design Site / Disappearing Content
Oct 27, 2013
The website is run on WordPress, and so I did not design the site in Xara. However, I designed the graphics. I had them all in one Xara file. Today, I wanted to add more mouseovers. You can see the ones I have by hovering over the right-hand side of the page. There were 5 or so pages in the file with a variety of ideas and small graphics that I exported to png files and uploaded to the site.
When I opened the file, it had only 1 blank page. I was horrified. I noticed that the latest and greatest Xara is a bit quirky, compared to the previous 2 versions.
I'm trying to build a site for a holiday villa and am having design block! I've tried out various headers and don't like any of them. I want to have a rounded rectangle navigation on the left side but not sure?
Have a site plan and about to make a revision to building layout, storm, sanitary, parking layout. Have a project folder, with Drawings subfolder, and then subfolder for Model Files and Sheet Files. How do most go about archiving the original drawings without affecting shortcuts and xrefs.

We have a custom content center. The families were brought in using "Copy to".Lately, sometimes, when editing a family in the custom content center the family suddenly "disappears" while I am still working on it. I can't see it. Other users on other computers can't see it, but content center editor believes it is still there.
In this particular case the "missing" family was called Hex Bolt -Inch.If I try to use "Copy to" to bring it back and start over I get a message like "Category Head Head in library GLM contains a family with an identical internal name. Would you like to replace the existing family ?(see attached file)" The filters do not seem to be the issue, since I can use "Save Copy as" to place the family (as long as I don't try to use Hex Bolt -Inch as the name) and I can see it.(see attached file).
Attempting to place the bolt after the disappearance causes runtime error and system crash.I always have to get our IT department to restore the file from backup, and I lose all the work i have done.
I am using Build: 219, Release: 2012 SP2 on a 64 bit Windows 7 operating system
Working in Civil 3D 2014 SP1 I have a Design Profile that I have created by setting the Existing Profile to 'Static' and Creating a Copy of the Existing Profile... This leaves me with a Design Profile that follows the Existing Surface. The problem begins when I delete a section of PVI's and introduce new 'Design PVI's'... I have found that at apparently random times my Design PVI's have been lost and replaced with the original copied PVI's that follow the Existing Surface. This has occurred more than once and I can't find any reason as to why this may be occurring...?
I have installed recently the XDPx9 as an upgarde from V8. Now I am facing the folling issue:
Every time I will make blurred edges to a square, this square disappears completely. As long as it is not blurred there is no issue. Strange is, that this phenomena only happens to a square and not to any other shape. I tried several set-ups but all resulted in same issue. The pics attached. Means: Once a square has sharp edges, it is visible in the work-view as well as in the pre-view. Once it has blurred edges, it is still visible in the work-view but disappears in the pre-view. (Even in the browser view it has been disappeared)
My design center has the content of my entire computer on it. How do I adjust it so that only the general blocks are present on there, such as doors, plants, etc.?
Everytime I try to place a #8 machine screw type II screw from the content center I get a Design Accelerator Doctor error saying: "Modeling: Failed to insert a part into assembly!".
But if I place a Type I machine screw it works fine. Also if I replace the Type I screw with the Type II (the one I have a problem with) it replaces it no problem. So basically if I want to place a #8 Type II screw I have to place a Type I and then replace it with the Type II..
I have 45 PCs running Autodesk Inventor 2011 in a student PC lab. We have since set up Vault Server and I need to change the location that these point at.The files that I need to edit can be got to by:
1. Open Autodesk Inventor 2. Click “Pro” 3. Click “Options” 4. Click the “File” tab 5. I need to edit the following: Default templates, Design Data (Styles, etc) and Default Content Centre files. 6. The above three will be pointed to a server that has vault setup on it (\vault emplates, etc).
Now to clarify, Inventor works, I do not need assistance activating it, and I do not need assistance with group policy to set up the install..I need to be able to modify the above with group policy through either the registry (if possible) or some other method.
I just purchased Xara Photo & Graphic Designer. It's fairly easy to work with. I'm used to Photoshop, but I needed something on the fly, as I'm not at home.
Why can't I save my Xara design as anything other than a .xar file?
This is frustrating! No print shop accepts a .xar file. When I try to save it, it only gives me the option to save it as .xar.
If I have some items that are grouped. In XDP6, I used to be able to double-click on one part of it and edit the colors etc. If text was grouped, then you could double-click on the text and edit that.
Well, in XDP7, if you double-click on a part of grouped objects, you are now taken to another page called 'Edit Inside...'
I don't want to be taken to another page because the things I wanted to be able to see at the same time are on the original page.
Is there a way of stopping this annoying 'Edit Inside..' page opening up?
I'm trying to add text on both sides of the diagonal line. I want the text to be screen filling, so what I'm trying to achieve is two triangular shaped text boxes.
I installed ACADLT 2012. I am unable to find PFD design and symbols. I am not sure if LT comes with it or if needs to be downloaded separately as a separate package
I have recieved an answer regarding my inability to install my software on my new computer, but it does not address the problem that there is no record of my previous purchase.
I'm sure this is because it was purchased in 2009 and whatever e mail was sent to me with the serial number is now lost to history.
I have one user with AutoCAD Design Suite 2013. She is unable to run any of the Raster design commands. The Ribbon is loaded but commands are not working (unknown command).
Today, all of a sudden, my coworkers and I cannot place standard parts from our content center (there are only three of us). We are not using Vault - but we have set up our Content Center to access a network location:
N:StandardsInventorContent Center FilesLibraries
This has worked for months ever since we set it up. Problems just started today for all of us. Parts that DO work are parts that you have to tell it an extruded length (like structural steel or tube/pipe). Nothing else will work (fasteners, pipe fittings, shaft collars, etc).
Interestingly, if I select to insert the part "as custom" instead of "as standard", all parts work like they should.
For the parts that do not work, I can navigate through all of the menus to select parts, but instead of getting the "Save As" dialogue, I get the "Unable to create component" error message.
I have some parts published in the Content Center. I need to modify a dimension on some parts. I can edit the family table and modify it. The new dimensions are right. But if I open an assembly which use older versions of the modified parts, when I try to update the Content Center parts, Inventor says all standard parts are up to date. When I insert the modified from the CC, I obtain the old version.
I don't have local versions of the part.
If I insert the part with option "Update standard parts when insert", I have the old version too.
I have already made these modification on other parts with no problem, what is wrong with this part ?
I am using Windows 7 64bit and Inventor 2012 SP1 (Build 190). When placing a new content center item an error message of "Unable to place component" is reported. Content center was working previously.
I determined the problem resulted in using a custom Date format in the Windows Region and Language setting. To duplicate go to Control Panel -> Region and Language ->Formats Tab -> Additional settings button -> Date tab and change the Short date format to a custom format (I was using ddd M/dd).
To fix simply reset to a standard date format.
Note that this can be done whilst Inventor is running and I have have submitted a bug report. None of the standard date formats resulted in errors. I have tested "ddd-dd/M", "ddd/MMM/yyyy", "yyyy/MM/dddd", and "yyyy-MM-ddd" and all resulted in an error. "yyyy-MM-dd" did not result in any error.
I am having problems with an error message relating to what appears to be a corrupted design data file. I am unable to save changes in my dwg to my design data file. I get this message:
Style library (C:UsersPublicDocumentsAutodeskInventor 2011Design Data) cannot be saved because it is damaged. If I attempt to copy a view in a dwg to another sheet or move it using the browser, I get the following error:
Paste View: problems encountered while executing this command. Invalid XML value for 'SubstituteDisplayUnit'. Expected 'bool' received '44' in file:///C:/Users/Public/Documents/Autodesk/Inventor%202011/Design%20Data/PartsList.xml. Invalid XML value for 'SubstituteFractionalFormat'. Expected 'bool' received '255' in file:///C:/Users/Public/Documents/Autodesk/Inventor%202011/Design%20Data/PartsList.xml.
I have also noticed that if I multi select components with ipropWiz5 and attempt to change the part name - it fails.I have tried reinstall in Inventor, ipropWiz5, etc. But to no avail.
I hate 3d orbit with a passion on autoCad / Revit. It is impossible to do detailed design work on a small scale because every time you need to pan around a corner junction for example the whole screen shifts and you lose what you were doing. I understand the way that the 3d orbit tool works is that it picks the pivot point according to the closest object to the cursor.
This however does not work at all well. It always picks the same point on the screen no matter where you are working or where the cursor is pointing. There are times when it does work, however the majority of the time it doesn't. This is where sketchUp is good - the orbit tool is excellent along with its perspective projection. It seems to intuitively pin point exactly where you wish to pivot. Unfortunately everything else about sketchup i hate.
I'm finally wrapping up work on an iLogic Configurator project and have started to brainstorm the best workflow to get this "Smart Assembly" into the design group's hands. I had been anxiously awaiting the new "iLogic Design Copy" feature in IV2012, but just recently learned that users are unable to effectively rename any components with this command.
Is this really true? If we can add prefixes or suffixes, what's stopping us from changing the entire filename? We haven't upgraded to 2012 yet, but it seems like this may be a silly and unjustifiable restriction to a command that would otherwise save our designers hours of "file-management" (ie, manually renaming parts in Explorer, component replace in assy's, replace references in idw's, etc) each week.
Long story short, it seems that every workflow I've come across has had some sort of silly limitation that makes it undesireable for my application:
My top-level assembly contains all of the rules, and changes parameter values in the referenced skeletal parts. It also swaps standard parts for other standard parts as needed.I need access to rename ALL files (idw's, top-level assembly, subassemblies, and base components) while still maintaining/updating all internal hyperlinks between them.iLogic rules must be carried over to the new copied components (the existing "Copy Assembly" command strips the assembly of all rules). In light of the iLogic Design Copy's apparent shortcomings, any better workflow?
When I insert a threaded part from the Content Center I get this message "unable to successfully update the member part file, problem occurred when setting thread data" The fastener will insert but the threads are very small.
