AutoCAD Inventor :: Content Center - Unable To Place Component
Jan 19, 2012
I am using Windows 7 64bit and Inventor 2012 SP1 (Build 190). When placing a new content center item an error message of "Unable to place component" is reported. Content center was working previously.
I determined the problem resulted in using a custom Date format in the Windows Region and Language setting. To duplicate go to Control Panel -> Region and Language ->Formats Tab -> Additional settings button -> Date tab and change the Short date format to a custom format (I was using ddd M/dd).
To fix simply reset to a standard date format.
Note that this can be done whilst Inventor is running and I have have submitted a bug report. None of the standard date formats resulted in errors. I have tested "ddd-dd/M", "ddd/MMM/yyyy", "yyyy/MM/dddd", and "yyyy-MM-ddd" and all resulted in an error. "yyyy-MM-dd" did not result in any error.
Today, all of a sudden, my coworkers and I cannot place standard parts from our content center (there are only three of us). We are not using Vault - but we have set up our Content Center to access a network location:
N:StandardsInventorContent Center FilesLibraries
This has worked for months ever since we set it up. Problems just started today for all of us. Parts that DO work are parts that you have to tell it an extruded length (like structural steel or tube/pipe). Nothing else will work (fasteners, pipe fittings, shaft collars, etc).
Interestingly, if I select to insert the part "as custom" instead of "as standard", all parts work like they should.
For the parts that do not work, I can navigate through all of the menus to select parts, but instead of getting the "Save As" dialogue, I get the "Unable to create component" error message.
We are developing a macro for steel structures and we know about the program to insert or place a content center component in assembly through VBA programming. If there are provisions for changing the object type and changing length in that importing process it will be very useful.
How can I change size of the content center part in an assembly based on parameters using iLogic.
There is also the possibility that I would need to replace from content center. I have been unsuccessful in adapting previous examples to work as I need. attached is an example of a part I am tryig to change with parameters and the start of some iLogic. I am using inventor 2012.
One of my customer is using Autodesk Inventor 2009, windows XP
He has a problem with the ''place from content center'' dialog, it suddenly missing all the content library from the dialog box but it worked fine on the day before this.
The firm that I currently work for has placed the Content Center inside the Vault. Why would you place the Content Center inside the Vault and not simply on a shared network drive and then have the computed Content Center parts in the Vault? Wouldn't there be any bandwidth issue using this Content Center setup? Is there a better location to place the Vault?
I have been using Inventor 2011 and I have noticed that I can’t create a component *.IAM in place if there is a content center part that is selected. I am saving content center parts as custom.
I have some parts published in the Content Center. I need to modify a dimension on some parts. I can edit the family table and modify it. The new dimensions are right. But if I open an assembly which use older versions of the modified parts, when I try to update the Content Center parts, Inventor says all standard parts are up to date. When I insert the modified from the CC, I obtain the old version.
I don't have local versions of the part.
If I insert the part with option "Update standard parts when insert", I have the old version too.
I have already made these modification on other parts with no problem, what is wrong with this part ?
When I insert a threaded part from the Content Center I get this message "unable to successfully update the member part file, problem occurred when setting thread data" The fastener will insert but the threads are very small.
I have created a standard part that has imates and all features are adaptive. When I create an assembly and then try to place the component I would like for the part to come in adaptive automatically.
For example I have a nightstand I am modeling. The top and endpanels are in the assembly constrained to each other. I have a standard top back rail that is set up in a library and is used in all cases. The rail width and thickness is always the same but the length is different. I have two imates set up on the rail so when it is brought in, it will snap into place with one end of the rail mated to one endpanel and the other end mated to the opposite endpanel. But since the part is not adaptive on input it dosen't work right. One mate works fine but the other doesn't snap into place. Once I make the rail adaptive then it works fine but I have to insert it into the drawing first then make it adaptive then move the imates into place. Is there a way to make it adaptive automatically when it is initially placed in the assembly.
Is there a way that will allow me to place a component into an assembly where it automatically creates a constrain between the components xz plane and the assembly xz plane? I tried the Ground and root component, but it does too much, I will need to constrain the component differently on the other component planes.
Create code that will allow me to place a part in an assembly at all matching iMate locations. I would also like to call this function from iLogic using RunMacro if possible.
I created a simple Part with some parameters to drive dimensions. Saved the part. I created an Assembly. Saved the assembly. Clicked Place iLogic Component. The Place iLogic Component window appeared Selected the Part. I can see the preview window (Part-01) & the parameter window... Used default values. Hit OK NO PART INSERTED! Using Inventor Pro 2014 64-BitLudesroc
I love the new triad function when placing a new part in Inventor 2014: I am now searching to trigger the same function for a part that already has been placed.
Something like:
1) select component
2) press a button (triggers the macro I now want to write)
3) the triad pops up.
I searched true the Inventor Help & what's new in the API. But didn't find any reference to that command. So I am afraid that it is not yet in the API. Could I maybe emulate it by replacing a component with itself using the place component command + emulating a mouseclick at the same origin as the original piece?
So a piece of code like:
1) get filelocation of selected part
2) get the origin point (x,y,z) of the part
3) get the translation between the origin of the assembly and the part
4) delete the selected part
5) place the part using the place component command (so the triad has been triggered)
6) fill in the filelocation, origin & translation
7) give control back to the user so he can move the part using the triad.
If I set this to true, then when I "place iLogic component", I don't get the form displayed or the parameter table or the model preview.
If set True, displays the form when placing this model as a component in an assembly. This setting affects Place Component and Place iLogic Component. If the template file has a form, this setting also affects Create In-Place Component.
I used to use the BSI content fine in my old version of Inventor, but on this years version there appears to be no BSI content. I have tried reinstalling the content center and all of the options are selected but still no BSI?
I'm using a student version of inventor 2013, and i'm trying using the content center for add bolts at my project, but all the components are unable for my use, because everything are marked as read only.
How can i do for use these components? and other question, how can i create account at vault?
We have an extensive library of parts that we consistently utilize, but we do use Content Center for hardware and routed systems components.
All of our library parts have our company ERP's item number in the stock number iProperty, and the ERP's description in the Comments iProperty.
For CC items, we have added columns for these and mapped them to the appropriate iProperty.
Everything works great except for one thing.
Many of our ERP descriptions inlude inch marks, foot marks, and the & symbol. For our normal library parts thhis is not an issue. However, CC items utilize these characters differently. The result is our descriptions come out different that what is entered.
See the example below...
How to include these characters in the CC descriptions?
At my company we currently have a huge number of Autocad deployments for 2010,2011,2012. Right now our deployments weren't setup to include the content centers. I have installed 2012 Inventor on my personal computer as a trial version to grab the .idcl files. I was wondering if I would be able to just drag and drop these onto a server and have my co-workers point to the file location within inventor itself via options>content center>etc.
Two computers with Inventor Pro 2011 on them, same set up in Apllication Options/Content Center and Apllication Options/File. On one Inventor sees Content Center on the other does not. What could be the problem?
Installed 2014 recently, and now my Content Center has nothing in it. The "Place from Content Center" window loads, and there are no folders. My item count is 0. I've attached a screen shot for reference. Clicking the refresh button does nothing.
We have no custum hardware/materials/etc.
If I try to update the content center library (step 2), the Configure Libraries is full of "Not Available"s. Again, I've attached a screen shot. I'm nervous to continue migrating with out all that info.
There are two pc's with IV, and the content center is working fine on the other pc. The CC is a local thing, and only my computer seems to be upset.
I just created an empty Fastenal Library, and it is set to Read/Write. We order most of our fasteners from them, but not much else, so I used "Copy Category Structure To" Fastenal. I created a plain washer to add to the library, but when I try to publish it, I can't get it to work.
When I "Publish Part," I select Fastenal and English, then am asked to select a category to publish to. The Washers folder is greyed out, along with most other folders, but the Ball sub folder is not. I can't select Plain, which is what I need, but I can select Ball.
Also, is there a way to delete sub folders? I right click on Pins or Rivets, and the option to Delete Category is greyed out.
I have been working on creating custom content center families that will populate our company's part numbers and descriptions into the browser and drawing BOM. I have been quite successful in this except with the material. I've created custom materials for the fasteners that have the specified strengths and finishes per the fastener. By doing this I've created a different problem.
How can I create a custom property that will insert a specified value for material into the BOM? I've tried to change the link for Project.Material and then the part inserts as Inventor's default. I don't think creating individual material styles for each fastener is a viable one since I'll end up with duplicate style names.
