VideoStudio :: Find Clip Audio Volume Control?
Apr 2, 2012
I've just bought VideoStudio Pro X4 and I want to mute the sound on my clips as I'm going to have music playing instead. On page 115 of the manual it says I will find the clip volume control in the Music and Voice tab. I have been all over the program interface and clicked on virtually everything but I cannot find a Music and Voice tab. In the end I had to split the audio for each clip and delete it. how to find the Clip audio volume control?

I am wondering if there is another method to control volume levels on the audio and voice over tracks. I am thinking particularly about a method to easily (automatically) reduce the volume of the background music when a voiceover starts and raising it again after the voiceover is finished.
I find the existing process of capturing a volume node fiddly and, for me, a bit hit and miss.

I have a composition which has two pieces of VO. Each has an associated text block.I want to play the first VO when the first text is clicked. Then, when the VO ends, I want the first text block to fade out, the second to fade in and play the second VO when tapped.
I have the timeline set up with labels to play through the transitions at the end of the first VO. No issues there.I have the audio playing when I click on the text blocks. All good. However, I do not know how to make the timeline wait for the audio clip to end before playing. This is the code for the first text block:
sym.$("RUP01_Nar_1")[0].play();
sym.play('Nar2');
This plays the audio but also plays the timeline instantly (so the text blocks fade from one to the other as soon as the audio starts).
I figure I need some sort of code in between which says, essentially, 'wait until the audio finishes then [play timeline]'. But as much i have searched I cannot find anything to do that.

I have recently upgraded my old VideoStudio 12.00 to VideoStudio Pro X4 and have only just started using the program again after a couple of years of absence so I am still on a learning curve.
Can I extract the audio from a video clip and if so how and how can I convert it, if necessary into an Audio Interchange File Format, so that I can export it to a program such as Audacity for removing background wind noise before importing the Audio back into the videoStudio project.
I have tried using all the audio filter functions in VS to remove the background noise, to no avail.

Although I have used Ulead VideoStudio occasionally over a few years, with moderate success (as I am a complete beginner at video editing), one problem has occurred quite often, and I have not been able to find out how to correct it.
It is this: when I burn a DVD, then put the DVD into a DVD player attached to a TV set, the volume - set at a comfortable listening level on the TV ( in one case, the level is defined at 40) - is very uncomfortably loud, so much so that the TV volume needs to be reduced to 15-20 before it is tolerable.
Is there any way of controlling the volume during the DVD burn?

why I'm having trouble with VSX5 Pro's "Sound Mixer?" It isn't working, and I don't know if my issue is one that has been reported already, or not. In my timeline (under 'voice track') I have an audio file which I separated from the main video file. The main video file is now 'muted' so that only my voice track plays the sounds. Note: I copied the same voice track and pasted 3 copies of it only to lengthen the overall playtime, but they are each on the same voice track.
The problem I'm having is that the volume adjustment settings don't work. After selecting the first segment on my voice track, I then move the slider up to maximum volume (from level 0 to 12), and then I right-click on it to save it as "default," but it ALWAYS jumps back to volume level zero (0)! It does the same thing even if I don't "right-click" and save it. The setting never stays where I want it to. What else can I do to increase the volume of the sounds on my 3 segments in my voice track, and have them stay at level 12?
EDITED: Also, is there some way I can save/export my "voice track" to an external sound file and/or convert it into a different sound format? I haven't seen a way to do that.

Is it by design that I cannot hear sound from videoclips played in "clip" mode when the volume is set to 100% ? I can hear the sound OK when the volume is changed to anything other than 100%, like 101% or 99%. By the way I can hear the sound OK when played in Project mode at 100%, just not in clip mode at 100%. This is very annoying as I need to change the volume of each clip to hear it. Product is VS-X5 digital purchase. video clips are from Leica Dlux-5 foto camera, which is basically a panasonic inside (avcdh lite 720p)

I have been using VS since version 9 and I seem to get the same thing on each version. After I have completed the project and burn to DVD the audio track seems too loud. I don't seem to notice it playing back the file (computer speakers aren't much chop) but once in the DVD player you always have to quickly turn down the volume once it starts playing. There is no static or distortion its just too loud. I now go into every song I input on the audo track and lower the levels. And it only appears to be the music. Audio in the video clips comes out at normal levels and does not need adjusting. If anything I have to boost the video clip audio because it's too low. The songs I import are directly from CD's or MP3's from my music folder.
Its not a real problem as I can fix by constantly lowering each song but is there a way to set the preference to lower the output on the audio tracks? That is to see the level automatically set below the 0 line when music is added. Or is it something in the burn proceedure in MF7?

I am creating a "year in review" for a local fire company. I am trying to set up Video Studio Pro X5 so that when there is audio in the video clips the background music lowers in volume so that I don't drown out the audio in the video. How do I do this?

I purchased VideoStudio X5 for HD editing of .MTS clips from my Panasonic HS700 video camera. I transfer the clips to my hard drive using explorer and then use the X5 program to bring them into the library and then to the timeline. Due to my volume problem I re-downloaded VSX5, reinstalled it and installed SP1 patch, updated my Video Card Driver to the latest, updated Direct X and made sure my Microsoft Updates are all up to date.
My Volume problem is, during the editing proces you use both the Project playback and also individual clip playback. Without any manual changes to clip volume, when I play an individual clip the volume is substatially higher than when I play the project over the same clip area. This is annoying to me and those nearby. Earlier versions of VS did not do this.
If I change the individual clip volume up or down from 100% then when I play either the project or individual clip the volume remains the same (ie.it is no longer louder in clip mode).

After staying away from video editing for some time I have just installed VS X5. But here I can't find the Audio View in which I could adjust the sound volume (using the graph) in the video track. Has it gone away or is it just that I can't find it?
Does this mean that I have to split the audio from the video to be able to adjust the volume (up and down at various places, not just the track volume).

I've been using Videostudio Pro X4 for a few days now and I've seem to have run into the problem of losing the audio of clips after I have muli-trimmed them. It doesn't matter where I multi-trim them in the timeline, after I have confirmed the trim I lose the audio for the clip?
Let me be clear: the audio for the clips work perfectly before any editing ie. trimming and they are placed in the main video track. The clip formats are mainly AVI, MP4 and DivX AVI and have varying lengths.

I recently upgraded my Corel VideoStudio X2 to Corel VideoStudio x4 Pro. After removing the old program and installing the updated version,I then restarted my computer and attempted to use it to edit a video. I placed the youtube video that I'd converted to AVI format into the timeline on the program. I then proceeded to attempt to trim <cut> the video at the first place that needed to be fixed and also at the end of the area to be repaired. After fixing it,I then reset the video to the beginning and watched for the expected changes. Much to my surprise, there was audio all way to the first cut spot on the video and absolutely nothing for the entire rest of the video;even in the cut or changed area. I was naturally puzzled as I never had this issue with the previous version. I then checked all my system audio controls and those of the program to make sure that nothing had changed or been accidently muted;including all audio settings were at proper levels, and everything was on and working as should be. I then checked the device manager to see if I found any yellow "?" marks on it for some strange reason to insure that all drivers were installed correctly;and found nothing amiss there. I then went to youtube and played a video and then a music CD in my computer to insure that my audio system was still functioning correctly and,as expected, they both worked fine and gave me audio output. Puzzled,I closed out the VideoStudio and all programs and re-started my computer. I then re-opened VideoStudio and tried again. I placed the same video on the timeline and played it without any changes. It played perfectly fine and I had audio thru-out the entire video. I then re-tried to adjust the video by clipping it and once again...no sound for the rest of the video. I re-checked all drivers and audio connections without finding anything amiss. I even tried other videos that I'd converted to AVI format in the program timeline, that I still had on computer with the same exact results after picking a spot and clipping them as before.....no audio. I even tried clipping the video in different spots;both by clicking on the scissors and with the editing options located in the program interface with the exact same results...no audio after the cut. I searched thru the program interface. I enjoyed the previous version immensly so was looking forward to using the updated version;but can't unless I can get this problem reesolved. Worse case,I can go back to the old version that worked fine for me but I hope not to.

I had noticed this when I tried using a loud audio sound effect so I removed it and changed it to something else but I am concerned about this. Here is the situation:
Segment 1: talking head video
Segment 2: black block with animation and no sound
Segment 3: black block with animation and a short sound effect (breaking glass)
Segment 4: black block with the end of animation and voice from the video
Segment 5: back to the talking head video as a continuation of segment 1
The problem I notice is that the sound, in segment 4 is very low as if the video is "recovering" from the sound effect in the previous segment. It is like it adds a fade-in where I don't need one at all.
Is that a normal "reaction" of the audio after a sound effect?

How to fade the volume out completely at the end of a audio clip. I have read the manual on the subject and have tried to follow the instructions that it gives. Until now I have not had any success. I know that I am missing something I just don't know what it is. I would like the audio to fade out completely so that I can fade in to another audio clip. I have clicked the fade out tabs but the volume only decreases a little at the end of the clip.

I am attempting to completely strip and/or delete the audio from a video clip after I drag it into the time line.
The purpose is to not only eliminate the audio entirely since it will never be used with the video, but to also make the total file size smaller.
I notice that when I "split the audio" from the video clip, the audio clip is still present in the video and the file size is the same -- even after I have deleted the "now split audio" from the time line. When I right click on the video clip, I also notice that the audio is simply muted, not deleted.
Is there any way to totally delete the audio?

Describe your problem: Once I've inserted a video file or files into the project timeline, playing the videos with the word "Project" under the screen highlighted, the audio (which is speech only) breaks up - all I hear is parts of words every second or two. Highlighting the term "Clip" just under "Project" provides clear, unbroken audio. This condition is new, first occurring after I installed VideoStudio Pro X3 Fix for MLE Database Incompatibility with PaintShop Photo Pro X3. Since then, I have re-loaded VSX3 and all the patches but to no avail. Note: the same video files can be processed by Windows Live Movie Maker and the audio and video come out fine, even if the effects are primitive.
What devices are involved and their mode of connection?: NONE, files are either in the VS Projects file or in my Videos folder. The Version of program is being used: Video Studio Pro X3. Please list all patches/updates that have been installed relating to that version of the program. I've installed all three patches and updates available on the Corel site (thru the User to User board) plus any updates offered by Corel.
Details of the source files. Quick Time movie, 24 bits 1280 x 720, 1 video track, 1 sound track - sound track is MPEG-4, low complexity

I'm no longer able to control the PP (monitor) volume using my computer volume controls. I've always controlled the monitor volume using my computer volume levels, but starting today, that has changed.
The volume is just playing at the level recorded with no way for me to turn down or up.I performed a disc repair and that didn't solve the problem.

I'm new to Adobe After Effects and trying to adjust audio levels on the timeline using key points. This works great for db levels but the maximum level that can be set is -48db and this is still allowing some audio to "bleed through". I can mute the audio for the whole track, but that's not what I want - I want to mute the track at certain keypoints on the timeline.
I can't see any way to do this in After Effects.

I'm contemplating purchasing a Mackie MCU to automate some of the volume edits I have to make using 5 tracks in the Audio Clip Mixer over 80 hours of video. I've tried to contact Adobe support, but they are about as cluless as a bag of hammers. When I asked if the clip mixer works with a control surface (after 4 calls and 4 different agents) I was told no. Which is total BS as there is toggle in the clip mixer called "Toggle Control Surface Clip Mixer Mode". They read from scripts and have no clue what they are talking about. I guess I should not be surprised as its an outsourced call center staffed with drones who have never even used the software, much less in production! Adobe you should be ashamed of your support, it's appauling! (BTW I own an online Magazine in the 3d industry and will be writting an article about your appauling support soon)
Anyway, onto my specific questions:
1) The Mackie MCU has overlay cards for button mappings for many different apps, but PP is not one of them. What functionaliy is mapped to the control surface specially from PP and the clipmixer?
2) Is there a way to group channels so that keyframes can be written to multiple clips at the same time by using one fader?
3) In the clip mixer there is a keyframe toggle, does such a toggle translate to the control surface?
4) Sometimes I want to manually keyframe, rather thanan make adjustments while the playhead is moving, so I will simply click the fader slider to write a keyframe, manually move the playhead and then adjust the fader to write the subsequent keyframes. As faders on a control surface can not be pushed like a button, is there a way to generate a keyframe from the control surface?
5) Are there any known limitations using the control surface vs the software for both the clip and track mixers?

I'm trying to replace the audio of a clip. I know I can easily delete the audio once it's in a sequence, but I'd like to replace the audio entirely so that the new audio is always on the clip as it's viewed in the project bins. You can edit in Audition for the clip, but thre doesn't seem to be a way to save the changes.
