VideoStudio :: X6 Hangs On Preview
Jul 15, 2013
Downloaded trial version, seems to have issues with the editor. Clip playback ok but when I try to do a project playback, it hangs after a few seconds of play back and then only creeps forward a second or two every time I attempt to hit play to have it continue through to the end. I use other video editing programs, never encountered this kind of issue. Cool effects but if the editor doesn't function right, what's the point.
I am running a new ASUS, windows home premium 64bit and have 6GB ram.

My capture card is a BlackGold BGT 3620 (which doesn't come with capture software). I had been using VideoStudio Pro X3 to capture VCRs through its analogue input (using S-Video) with no problems. However, I recently re-installed Windows (nothing different, it had just stopped working), and decided to give the trial version of VideoStudio Pro X4 a shot. When I go into the capture panel and click on "Capture Video", the "Source" field is blank, and the program completely hangs, so I have to kill it.
Of course, I can go back to X3, but sooner or later, it will no longer be supported, or there'll be some other reason I'm forced to upgrade, so I'd rather get this working.I tried running it as admin (although X3 used to work fine without it).
here's my set-up:
Mobo: ASUS M4A79T Deluxe
RAM: 8 GiB DDR3
GPU: Palit NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 (driver V. 275.33)
HDD: 3 x 160 GB 7200 RPM SATA II
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64. All service packs, updates, etc., installed.
Capture Device: BlackGold BGT 3620 (driver V. 8.1.0.0)
Capture Media: UK PAL VCR, from standard VCR player, through S-Video

I did a clean install of VS Ultimate 6 after completely removing VS Ultimate 5 from my system. Boy, do I wish I had not done that!
After installing VS 6 and all of its extras, it starts up fine. But when I load project (VSP) files I had created using VS 5, it starts populating the timeline with clips and then hangs hard. It never comes back … i have let it start loading before bed, and the hourglass is still spinning when I wake up the next morning. Have to forcibly close it.
Not all VSP files will hang VS 6. Just the most important two projects. Periodically, as I'm developing my project (and a separate parallel project), I will create my own work back up by doing a File Save As with a new number at the end of the file name. I am presently working on Act I v14. I have verified that v1 thru v3 work fine, but v4 thru v14 all hang VS 6, as well as Act II v1 thru v8 (which is all of them). These two projects represent hundreds of hours over the last 10 months. If I have to start over, I will kill myself or start drinking again or something.
I would remove it and reinstall VS Ultimate 5, but I am unable to locate installation disk #1. I have my serial number stored away in a CodeWallet database, but the disk is mislaid somewhere in this debris field that is laughingly called my home computer room. So, how I could download, VS Ultimate 5 disc #1,
Windows 7 Ultimate w/SP1 and all updates (64-bit operating system)
AMD Phenom II X4 925 Processor 2.80 GHz
AMD Radeon HD 6450 display adapter
8 GB RAM
104 GB system drive (7 GB free)
833 GB second drive (459 GB free)

I recently upgraded to Studio X6 and downloaded service pack 1. I had this same problem with X4, and was in hopes X6 would eliminate it.
I open a project and I want to add a jpeg image, so I drill down to the folder where the file is located and it hangs there with the little blue circle going around, and no files appear and I get a message "Not Responding" I I must close the program or wait for it to respond, which it never does.

I have yet to edit a video. I have over 25 years of videos that were made on VCR tapes. I used a Panasonic VCR to DVD recorder to transfer those tapes to DVDs. I changed the extension from VOB to MPEG. Most of them import into X3 just fine. However, some of the videos I want the most will make X3 not respond (hang).
Here is what happens: I use the "Insert Media File to Library" process. Normally, when I click on the video its name appears in the File Name box right away. When it is a video that is going to hang the program it takes a very long time to fill the File name box. Sometimes it hangs there. Once, I was able to get the video into X3 and it started but I couldn't move the scrubber and then it would hang the program.
The odd thing is that the video will play in Windows Media Player and work just fine. I don't think there is anything wrong with X3, I think it is the videos. Would I benefit from an upgrade to X4?

Was able to trim and save 11 clips in new video files over 2-3 sessions, but then program hung after initiating 12th save. No duplicate file names, ie file already exsists. Computer show 100% CPU usage implying program has gone into loop. Have to use Window task mgr to end VideoStudio. When restarted VS indicates it is completing save started in previous session but creates empty file. Removing all Ulead files and folders I can find from computer left after uninstall, and all references I can find from registry, then reinstalling VideoStudio does not fix problem. I did not remove the video files in my user directory. There are no project files. Assume something remains on computer preventing clean reinstall and removal of bug.

Recently purchased Corel X5. I really like the editor and find it intuitive, fast, and stable, but the program that creates DVDs is giving me fits with a long list of issues. One of the main issue I have is that when I go to preview a DVD, more than half of the time the program immediately aborts and kicks me entirely out of Corel. I end up having to re-start Corel, go back into the DVD creation portion, and try again. Eventually, the preview works. If I don't close the DVD program and then save the project in the editor before running the preview and it aborts, I lose my changes, so I have to constantly go back to the editor and save my project when working on a DVD menu.

I am working on a simple video with two (3 second) overlay video clips. In the preview window everything looks great. After compressing the overlay clips shrink in height revieling the top & bottom of the main clip. If I over-stretch the overlay clips they still shrink down. I have gotten it to work once (don't know why) but that rendering the audio dropped off when the overlay started and never came back. That's a separate issue.
I saw where one person trying to solve a different issue mentioned to streach the overlay clip by the corners only? Is that important? I also tried turning on and off the "stretch to fit" option. I am not seeing a patern? I have also tried keeping the aspect ration on and off but that does not seem to give consistant results. I am sure it is a combination of some type.
Main clip:
Data rate: 9421 kbps
Video: Windows Media Video 9
24 bit, 1920x1080, 29.970 frames/sec
Aspect Ratio: 1.78:1.00
Overlay clips:
Data rate: 1309 kbps
Video: Windows Media Video 9
24 bit, 1280x720, 25 frames/sec
Aspect Ratio: 1.78:1.00

I have set my video capture format to 16:9 (widescreen). The picture in the movie capture preview window is 4:3 and stretched vertically. However when the file is played it is in fact 16:9.
Is there a way I can set the preview window to display the correct aspect ratio during capture ?

I have this problem in X4 and also in X5. When I load MP4 files from my HD camcorder I can preview the clips fine. When I drop them into the timeline, and play the project, the clips are mostly pixelated. When I open other projects that I created in X4 last year using the same type type of mp4 files, I see no pixelation in the project preview. All of these mp4 files are using smart proxy.

I've had nothing but problems with this latest project, finally got what looks decent and can't get past "preview" in the burn module. There's no "next" button, just "back."
Here's the details.
Operating system: Windows 7 Home Premium
VideoStudio Pro x2 - downloaded the patch
Project Properties:
NTSC
6.73 KB
37:31 minutes long
Still images are jpeg
videos are both MJPEG and Microsoft AVI (camcorder AND still digital)
Edit file format MPEG - should I try AVI?
Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 704 x 480
frame-based
4:3
MJPEG Compressor - should this be something different?
PCM, 48,000 kHz 16 bit stereo
Image: Keep aspect ratio checked
apply anti-flickering checked

After I successfully imported some videos into VideoStudio, I tried to preview them. Originally, the video preview was taking a quarter of the screen. It is still the case, but when I start playback, now the video size becomes half of this (half ot the quarter screen preview). I am searching since half an hour without any success for a solution. Google always return me PDF documents describing main features of Corel VideoStudio as well as reviews of the product. I thought this could be related to the fact project properties are set to output video at 480p, but I cannot set the project properties to HD. The HD option is just not there. Seems VideoStudio X6 Pro can only work for DVD projects and upconvert to HD after the fact. I found some page showing how to configure project as HD, but the layout of the options does not correspond to VideoStudio X6. Could this be because X5 had HD and X6 has not? Would be quite surprising. Seems I really have to ask support from Corel, seems an unknown undocumented issue, but I am now outside the 90-day warranty period and don't want to pay to be told to reformat my computer. So I will try other software, be pissed off during weekends and weekends and probably end up trying with another computer or asking a friend with a Mac to do the editing for me with Final Cut (and literally wait MONTHS to get a single 30-minute video).

I just started using the new x4 version of VS and I noticed the playback on the preview window is very choppy. I have Pinnacle Studio HD, Sony Vegas Pro & of course Premiere CS5 installed to compare between them all, and don't have that problem, even with effects or anything added. Is there an option somewhere I'm missing? I've tried different video types and it doesn't seem to matter. The main one I'm trying is a 1280x720 AVI file I recorded.
Checked and unchecked the "Hardware Acceleration" ticks, no difference either way.
Checked DirectX....up to date.
Checked graphics drivers...up to date.

I'm using videostudio 4pro... I find that if I apply pic-in-pic on any video clip I can no longer hear the audio when previewing a clip. I have to choose project to hear audio. To hear the audio I must split the audio track from the video track... is this the only way to preview audio for a clip once I apply pic-in-pic?

However in other editing programs like Vegas it plays back like butter but i am not into Vegas and i dont like vegas. I use Videostudio only.
the video plays back like in 1FPS or like 2-3FPS i mean the videos one picture is shown then directly after 2-3 seconds. The audio is howver smooth.

I just upgraded to windows 7 and now there is a blank preview window when I try to capture. I have tried capturing in both DV and DVD and no preview. I am capturing via firewire from a VHS. Have just installed VSx4 trial version. I previously used x3 with no problems. I've created a new project, imported an AVI and it plays fine in the preview window, in either Clip or Project mode. However, as soon as I pause it the image goes black.
This makes any kind of editing nearly impossible. I don't get the problem with the pre-installed sample video "V21". So I guess it is clip related? It plays and pauses fine in media player.

I am running Windows XP, and using Videostudio 11. I know I used to have the DIsable Audio Preview button available when capturing. I have not used the software in about a year and now the button is not available for me to turn off from the capture screen. How can i turn that off? I find that during capture i get less a chance of dropped frames if i turn off the Audio Preview.

I know those are almost opposites, but is there a way to allow VSPro to somehow pre process the video such that my preview runs more smoothly and with high resolution (or at least more smoothly).
I have a decent box and am trying to process 1080p clips. It seems to run smoothly after I create a file (in the preview window), but is there a way to have it do that without going to step 3 ("Share")?

Situation - running VS10 and have been for a while now. However for some reason recently I've failed to manage to capture video from my Panasonic NV-GS11 mini-DV. The error is simply "Failed to build a preview graph".
I've checked and re-installed the VS10 SP1, as well as the Vista patch someone mentioned in one topic here I did find, but so far no change. I'm just a bit leery of something that has worked fine in the past, but for some reason that's changed...

I am using VideoStudio Pro X3, and am having a lot of difficulty with the preview window.
When I play the video I have been working on, it runs the video at about 1 frame per second or so, and renders the program useless. The odd thing is, when I select an individual clip and click run, it runs at a proper frame rate.
Is there some sort of codec or driver that I am missing?

I have come across - the 1st time - a series of mpg video clips which, assembled into a project file on a 3rd party usb memory stick, irregularly freezes the preview image and sound while playing, usually in the 1st or 2nd clip in the file. Searching for a reason, I have played the file on two machines across both usb2 and usb3 connections, and using different versions of VS, and the freezing of the play occurs in all of them. At different places in successive events. The same thing happens with individual clips in VS, and individual clips in other video player software like media player and VLC.
I've no reason to believe that the software or even the files are causing this. At least, not yet. The only common element seemed to be the memory stick, so I copied the files from the 3rd party item to one I know is usb3, opened the project file and after re-linking, played it. Same thing happened in the 3rd clip. The results to date suggest that the player software (any of them) in doing the background data load from the memory stick at some point is taking too long, and thus the freeze. Which led me to review the file formats and size.
The freezing files are interesting - mpg format, but way bigger than I had expected for the duration involved. For example, one of the freezing ones is 1min18sec duration and 99,791Kb in size. Compared to a 51sec 22,224Kb file taken on a different camcorder. The duration versus size differences are substantial (for only a 27 sec duration difference the size difference is nearly 5 times), and one wonders why? Both of them loaded into VS show as MPEG-1 format on a right click properties display.
As far as I am aware, mpeg-1 is the same as avi format, and mpeg-2 and mpeg-4 are compressed and thus smaller versions of the same file length without loss of quality. Why mpg file should freeze during play in VS X6, X5, media player and VLC, on a desktop and a separate laptop machine?

I have had VSX5 shutdown completely without any error messages while in Share>Create Disc>DVD. I have no problems in the Add Media step. I add a Video File, MPEG2, in Add Media and change the Thumbnail to have the title of the clip. I click Next to go to Menu & Preview. I select a main menu from the gallery, select Hide Object for one of the provided texts in the main menu, and edit the PRJxxxx one. I select the Edit tab. Select Customize>Motion Filter and Zoom In and Out options. When I click OK to leave the Customize Menu, VSX5 completely shuts down without any error messages. This doesn't occur every time. I have also clicked OK, returned to the Menu & Preview window, and then clicked Preview. After clicking Preview, VSX5 has shutdown. I have also had the problem after selecting Navigation buttons in Menu & Preview and clicking OK. I have opened an incident with Corel support, and they asked if I had Service Pack 1 installed and if my software and drivers are up to date. I have Service Pack 1 installed and everything is up to date.

I edited the project-properties to HD, according to the hints Trevor gave in this topic:
[URL]
As a work-round----Change the project properties to use 1920 x 1080 and your images will be 1920 x 1080.
Settings-Project Properties (Alt+Enter)
Edit File Format ---Microsoft Avi Files
Edit
Avi Tab
Compression to Microsoft Video 1 (there may be others you can use—Div X ??)
General Tab
Frame Size---User Defined to 1920 x 1080
Ok now the screen shots should all use the larger image size.
