VideoStudio :: X3 - Can't Save Trimmed Video
Nov 27, 2010
I've recently purchased VSX3 and can't not edit any videos. I have VSX3 loaded on two computers. On my laptop, I can "Mark-In/Mark-Out", but when I "Save Trimmed Video", the Rendering stops at 91% hang the software stops responding. On my desktop, I can "Mark-In/Mark-Out", but I do not get the option to "Save Trimmed Video". It is grayed out.

I thought the best way to construct my video would be to 'cut' out all the sections of video I wanted to use, and save them in the library. When I had them all, I could then bring them down to the timeline where each needed to go. The videos I am working from are 512x288, and when I try to use the 'save trimmed video' function, it comes back saying my frame size is not per the settings.
I haven't seen a way to make the project accept a different frame size, that option is grayed out under preferences. Is there a way for me to cut out the sections I want and save them individually?

Was able to trim and save 11 clips in new video files over 2-3 sessions, but then program hung after initiating 12th save. No duplicate file names, ie file already exsists. Computer show 100% CPU usage implying program has gone into loop. Have to use Window task mgr to end VideoStudio. When restarted VS indicates it is completing save started in previous session but creates empty file. Removing all Ulead files and folders I can find from computer left after uninstall, and all references I can find from registry, then reinstalling VideoStudio does not fix problem. I did not remove the video files in my user directory. There are no project files. Assume something remains on computer preventing clean reinstall and removal of bug.

trying it out as a hobby.Installed VS Pro x5 in a secondary drive. Trimmed a mpeg-2 U-tube using multi-trim , tried to save it as per manual by selecting>file> save trimmed clip. It started to render instead of asking which drive to save.

This is my first use of Video Studio X3. My first aim is to simply split an mp4 video file into 6 parts. A simple thing to ask of fancy video editing software, right?
So I dragged the video file into the storyboard area. I used the "multi-trim video" feature and did the mark-in/mark-out thing and, seemingly, was successful in sub-dividing the original video into 6 smaller ones. Following the documentation, I selected "save trimmed videos" and get the error "The frame size (1440x1080) of the video file does not match the settings and therefore cannot be trimmed." (the original video is indeed 1440x1080)
Okay, fine. So I go to the settings, find the project properties, and discover that I cannot choose a frame size any larger than 720x480. Why can't I simply change the project settings to the necessary 1440x1080 frame size? The VideoStudio user guide is completely useless with any troubleshooting, as it gives the impression that the multi-trim video process is simple and flawless, as if nothing could possibly go wrong.

Lightroom allows for trimming a video clip but when the clip is saved it saves the clip in it's entirety. Is there a way to delete the portions not included between the in and out points?

After trimming and clipping videos, I drag the segments that I want keep into the library. All of the clips that I move into the library have the same name as the original. Is there any way of renaming the trimmed clips?

I'm trialing VS ProX5 and have uploaded multiple video files and have trimmed them and multi trimmed them and now would like to join them together to make one video and put a voice over on top. Is that possible?
I haven't tried the voice over bit yet cause I haven't been able to figure out how to join the videos.

I am using Pro X3 with Windows 7. I opened up MPG video I captured from HD Canon camera yesterday, then trimmed it from the original size to get one portion before dragging it down to the video track. It ran very slow that way, so I dumped the project.
Thought if I opened up the original file (11 GB), it would be fine and I could start over but cut it from the video tract rather than the clip, but now the portion I had trimmed is blacked out for video on the original "raw" MPG file but the audio is there. I tried it numerous times. On the thumbnail for this original clip, there is the video icon in the left upper corner but also two little video icons next to that. What did I do wrong? and what do the two extra video icons mean?
When I pull the same original (raw) MPG file up in Windows Live Movie Maker it is fine.

When I said 20 seconds. I just meant that as an example. For saving as an avi, I just wanted to use it in another project. I only wanted to be able to cut out a little part of a short part of a video on a video and overlay track and use just that part somewhere else. without saving the whole program that is about 20 minutes long. I try for nothing complicated, So I have to use the blue track above the timeline. That is what I have to figure out how to use it.

I trimmed a wav audio file with the little yellow markers in the clip by placing the markers where I want them and using the scissors, then saved it, but when I drag it down to the timeline it comes down as the original long file.

I am trying out a few video editors, having never worked with one before. I shot a video with my camera and have imported the MP4 file into VSPro x4. But I would like to disable the audio track --to silence everything my camera's microphone picked up when I was shooting the video and save the result as a "silent film" also in MP4 format. I don't even need to do any splicing or cutting at this point. But I cannot figure how to kill the sound. In one of the products I'm looking at, there's a Disable Audio option on its Output menu. I cannot find a counterpart option with Corel Video Studio Pro x4. Does it have this capability?

Video Studio Pro X5: I've saved a project with several clips and then tried to "Share" the video using Create Video File. After I get to the Save screen and click Save with a filename, nothing happens - it does not start rendering and no file is saved. But then I saved a short clip from the same file as a separate Project File, and I was able to create a video file or the short clip.
What would cause Share not to be able to create a Video File from a Project File?

I have recently upgraded from VideoStudio 12 to Pro X4, and have noticed that I don't have all of the Video Save Options (specifically Media type and Audio format) that I have with 12.
I produce video for playback by a regional local access provider, and their requirements are mpeg-2 video with mpeg layer 2 audio. Both of these are options that are available in 12 but not X4. I understand that NTSC DVD video is mpeg-2, but I'm still at a loss with the audio format.
Here is a screenshot of the video/audio format I need to be able to produce:

Many of my videos seem to be trimming and saving to a file. With a HD video at a high data rate, all I do is trim the video and save back to a file. However, I select the "Same as first video clip" to save to a new file. What I usually do is save the file and use a third party software to reduce the video the data rate I need.
In other to reduce the re-rendering time, I wish both processes could be done in VS's 'Options' button.

I just purchased Video Studio Pro X4 and I'm hoping it wasn't the wrong decision. We do a lot of voice overs and wanted to start adding subtitling and audio swap to our list of services. Subtitling with the software has proven to be easy, as well as the audio swap. But I've just ran into a problem that I can't solve (I'm an audio guy through and through...but my video skills are low)
Video Type: H.264 Baseline Profile Video
Total Frames: 6,356
Attributes: 24 bits, 1280 x 720
Frame rate: 25.000
Data rate: 4836 Kbps
Audio Type: MPEG AAC Audio
Audio Attributes: 48000 Hz, 16bit stereo
I easily swapped the original audio for ours and wanted to render the video exactly as it was given to me. However, when I try using the option: "Save as First Video Clip" it gives me the error:
"The frame size (1280 x 720) of the video file does not match the settings and therefore cannot be trimmed." 18706:1:1
This happens on both of my computers (Windows XP & 7). Am I missing some codecs...my video cards not up to snuff, or something else? Again, I know little about video.
In Settings, I tried changing the project properties to similar settings as the original video, but the highest frame size it will give me is 720 x 480; and 'user defined' is grayed out. Not sure if any of that matters at all.
Lastly, yes I can manually type in all the info in the Custom option and can successfully render a video with similar specs, but I was hoping to just use the "Save as First Video Clip" option.

I recently purchased Video Studio Pro X3 - and after going through the knowledge base and product read me, I have been unable to find an answer to the following problem I have:
PROBLEM:
I have a number of videos (HD 1080p) that I have recorded. Each video is on average 50 minutes in length - what I want to do it to be able to do is to slice this video into 10 x 5 minute videos (based on topics discussed in the video), (so essentially clip the video into these segments and edit each one) and then when producing the video file - actually create 10 separate video files (all with editing in place) instead of one single large file.
As far as I have been able to work out, I need to go through the whole file, clip relevant sections, edit them, and then save project. I then need to go trim the saved file 10 times, to extract each time the single 5 minute video I want to create. This is a fairly manual and time consuming process, hence my hope that I can create 10 files based on the clips I have made in the larger 50 minute file in one go.
as I have 30 videos to edit, so looking for ways to save time!

After either publish or plot-to-pdf, the pdf sheet of one file is being shown trimmed. I have attached two images of both, the pdf result and the layout screen shot to show the problem.
For your consideration, this problem appears in both ACAD 2010 and 2012, in cpu's that otherwise publish/plot correctly to pdfs. The problem seems to be file-related.
Also, the unwanted croping seems to be some sort of frame around the drawing; however, as you can see from the layout screenshot, the Page is correctly setup as the sheet shadow includes all of the drawing intended to be printed.

We recently moved some project managed/trimmed projects to a different directory (I knew we would need to re-link the media). Instead of allowing me to find the files and re-link it gives me diagonal grey lines in the timeline. I can select any of the clips in the timeline and they play in the source window, I can reveal them in the finder and it points to the right file. But, I cannot play the timeline, all I get is black and I can't re-link the media. The only solution I've found is to move the folder back to the original directory, then everything opens fine. This doesn't happen when I move projects that have not been trimmed by project manager, they give me the find file and re-link as they should.

Is there a new default setting I'm not aware of?

I've just had a problem with LR4. Instaled the full version a few days ago on my old computer. Just got a new computer where I instaled LR4 and imported all my latest work and noticed that all video (.mov) metadata were not saved on to files (Photos are OK!!!) So all editing and rating/flags/color filter I've done is gone.
Thought that I forgot to save Metadata on my old computer and did a couple of tests.
I did some rating and some color filters on my actual catalog then saved the metadata a couple of times. Removed from the Library and re-imported and the metadata were not there again. Did the same to Photos and is fine!
LR4 does not write XMP to video files?
Just lost hours of work on cuting and rating a video Job since my old computer is gone.

At some time in the past when I saved a psd file I would have an icon or thumbnail in explorer. No it doesn't save those thumbs. Actually it saves them but they appear to be corrupt.
I'm running win7 and I have a dll (don't remember which one) that allows for the preview thumb in explorer so I know it's an issue with cs5.

Installed Lightroom 5 upgrade. On LR 4 I can export a 55 slideshow as MP4 with 1080p preset using all four cores on a win7-64 (Intel I7) in about 6-8 min (used 70-80% processor). In LR5, the CPU never goes above 15% processor and takes 45-50 minutes. I can flip between the two (not at the same time) to test. Luckily, no catalog changes other than what the automatic conversion did.
Interestingly, I see a ".aac" and ".m4v" in the destination directory during the rendering process (they eventually goes away and are replaced by the ".mp4" at the end of the rendering export process).
Why LR5 is not taking full advantage of the multi core CPU? How to improve performance in this area?Overall, its very disappointing. I have to go back to LR4 to re-render the slideshows that eventually get exported to a DVD (but that's another story).
Additional information, when I render the slideshow, it looks like LR4 exports using the native executable (no spawned subprocesses), but LR5 spawns a separate process to handle the export/rendering process.

With the installation of SP1 (VSX4), the options to create a blu-ray video file (assuming 1920x1080 only, though the same options exist for 1440x1080) are now:
Blu-ray (1920 x 1080)
Blu-ray H.264 (1920 x 1080P)
Blu-ray H.264 (1920 x 1080)
Now, I want to create a 'standard' Blu-ray disc of family videos. My camera is a Canon Vixia HF20, recording in 1920x1080 in the '60i' mode. The camera creates AVCHD formatted files. I know I don't want the progressive option, however, what is the difference between the other two options (is it MEG4 vs. AVCHD? If so, what should I choose when creating a new disc?). I want my disc to support as many blu-ray players and HDTV's as possible since I will be giving copies to various family members (meaning I don't want a format that supports only the latest releases of blu-ray players).
