Revit :: Wall Hosted Families In Existing Walls

Aug 26, 2013

I have some families in a project such as sinks and cabinets that are wall hosted, but when I try to place them on the existing walls of the linked file they do not go there. Is there a setting to get around this?

Revit :: Doors Not Hosted By Walls In Project

Mar 26, 2012

In a project I'm working on we have some doors in large accordian room partitions that need to appear in the schedule however they will not be hosted in a wall in our model.  The walls are 2d in the CAD background from a consultant.  I created a door family that can be placed and scheduled however the "Room #" field does not populate.  Is there a way to add that to the family?  I believe the issue comes up because the doors are not in a wall that is "Room Bounding" or in a wall at all.

Revit :: Modifying Existing Families To Create New Ones?

Sep 5, 2013

I'm trying to work out how to modify an existing, out of the box Revit family, a window, to create a new one, and struggling with it.

What I'm looking to do is to take the family (from the metric uk template) "Windows_Sgl_Horz_Bars.rfa" and add a second window bar in. What I'm finding is I can copy the window bar extrusion easily enough, but getting it to constrain to the sides of the window frame as the middle one has been done (position not changed from the original) , it doesn't work, when I flex the model I keep getting "constraints are not satisfied" warnings.

When I move the copied extrusion to the sides it looks like it is snapping to the constrain line of the pre-existing window pane, I don't understand why the new alignment with an existing one doesn't work.

I had been looking to generate a lot of new family content by modifying what has come out of the box, if I can't fathom it, its going to be a lot of work.

Revit :: Bulkhead Wall Join Skews Bottom Of Existing Wall

Jul 25, 2013

I have to draw a bulkhead wall that connects to a full height wall and a gyp bd ceiling.  This causes the entire end of the full height wall to skew in line with the butt joint above the ceiling level.  I tried Wall Joins but all the options screw up the bottom half of the wall which needs to remain in line with the paired opposite.  I also tried editing the sketch of the wall profile but Revit couldn't keep the elements joined.  I tried trimming the two walls back together afterwards but the wall profile dominates and prevents a clean join above the ceiling.

Surely there's a way to have different kinds of joins at different heights?

Revit :: Display Wall Center Line In Walls?

Jan 8, 2013

We r used to have a center line for each separate wall not just for dimension or placing but even visible after plotting and in each view including section , whether it is a structural or partition wall or ... etc ,  I am new to revit and i fell in love with the software right away, how to display wall center line in views , the only way i found out how to do it is either by drawing model lines or grid lines which will be so dreadful and time consuming if u have 1250 walls in the project .  doing it automatically perhaps to be a part of the wall proprieties

Revit :: Exporting Curtain Wall With Panels As Walls

Feb 16, 2012

I am trying to export my floor plan to dwg file and I have curtain wall there which have panels as regular wall types. The problem is that exporting it will put those panels on the wall layer. I need them to be on curtain wall panel layer. I tried to use "Function" parameter in wall family by changing certain wall types to Retaining (since I don't use this parameter) and changed Wall/Retaining category layer to curtain panel in dwg export setup. But it seems it has no effect.I also noticed that walls inserted as panels into curtain wall do have a parameter under "Identity Data" with the name "Categorize as" where are two values - wall or panel. But this does not have any effect either since there is no category for it in export setup.

Revit :: Why Existing Walls Not Plot To PDF

Mar 24, 2013

why my existing walls show up fine in my sheet but don't plot to .pdf. I have the view range settings set correctly and all other sheets plot fine.

I thought maybe the roof transparency was the issue but Revit is usually pretty much a WYSIWYG plotting operation and the walls are displaying in the sheet file. Haven't tried plotting to a plotter but it doesn't matter. I need to plot .pdf's.

Revit :: Trimming Wall To Roof / Making Horizontal Holes In Walls Created From Mass Face?

I would like to know whether it is possible (and how) to trim a wall that was generated from mass face to a roof (also generated from face mass) or/and make a horizontal hole in it. The wall itself is not straight or curved, it shifts outwards from the building from base to top (still in an elevation it looks like rectangle).

Revit :: Hatching Within Families

Nov 17, 2011

I created a keyplan as a generic annotation family, with masked regions representing the various segments of the building.  For some reason, my palette of hatches within this family template is very limited, and I cannot choose a dotted pattern for the masked regions, which is an informal company standard.

From what I've seen, adding new hatches is a cumbersome process.  Since a simple dot pattern is available in project files though, is there a simple way to add that hatch to this family file?

Revit :: Parameters In Nested Families

Jun 3, 2013

I have a pile family where i have created a Shared Text parameter under Identity data called Vert Load. I have nested this into a pile cap family in several locations and have the same Shared Text parameter. If i select the pile in the pile cap family i have the option to put a value in the properties dialogue box under Vert Load. The pile cap family is now loaded into my project and the parameters shared in the project. When i select the Pile cap in my project then i have the option to add a value for the Vert Load but in this pile cap i have 3 piles and i want to give different values for each. When i select an individual pile within the Pile cap family then the Vert Load value is greyed out.

I want these vert Loads to appear in a schedule... I've attached a couple of images.

Revit :: How To Get Wall Sweep Set Up In Type / Structure Properties To Wall Profile Has Changed

Any way to get a wall sweep that's set up in the type/structure properties to follow a wall if that walls profile has changed.  For example, in the image below, I've split the wall and adjusted it's profile to create some cheesy angled parapet.  How do i get my wall cap to follow along?  I thought splitting it and changing it's height would work, but no.  And if I change the profile without splitting the wall the wall cap just runs right through the wall, as if the profiel was never even changed.

Revit :: Nesting Families - Putting Various Doors Together?

May 24, 2013

I'm putting various doors together, and we have a variety of frame types / door leaf combinations - including occasions where door leafs are inserted in glazed screens (These are timber doors / screens).

It seems to make sense to have the door leaf as a family, then nest those into hosted door frame / screen family. This would allow the 3 or 4 different door leaf types to be switched into the frame / screen combos.

The principal seems to work - but before embarking on the process of putting these together, are there any consequences that should deter me, or that I need to take into consideration ?
