Revit :: Hosted Adaptive Point Along Intersection Of Reference Planes
Mar 20, 2013Is it possible to host an adaptive point along the intersection of two reference planes? Or is there another way to accomplish this same idea?

How to tell in Revit? For instance, I am trying to center an imported toilet in a space in a bathroom and something like this would take me about 5 seconds in ACad.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAttached is an image of one of the many Complex pipe structures that I am working on for steel fabrication (family), what I am trying to achieve.
I am creating these pipes using sweeps with reference lines at their centres, then I trace over them in 3D using pick path command when creating the extrusion. Is this a good way of doing it?
In trying to draw this particular element I have hit a problem. Drawing the curves that join the straights has become difficult as the straights don't align easily, and so I was wondering if there is a way of creating a reference plane by picking 3 points in 3d? This would be really, really useful!
The curve at the top left of the 'plan' joining the straights is difficult to draw as the straight on the left comes back at an angle and not perpendicular to say the rear vertical pipe work, which is drawn using another plane. I have managed to draw this so far by aligning it by eye, a dodgy way which is not really acceptable.
Found a way I think. A major part of the problem is that you cannot draw a reference plane in 3d! So after I have oriented to a plane perpendicular to the direction I want to draw, I then can draw an extrusion and then rotate the view in 3d and pick the face of the extrusion that aligns with the plane I want to draw on. A bit finicky really. Is there a better way?
I have used the align to plane in 3d

Is it possible to select lines (maybe up to 6 lines) around an intersection point with a reference line. There is one intersection point and the lines are around it. And also, both the intersecting lines are in different layers.
How to get the ObjectARX's ArxDbg tool working on autocad 2012. ObjectARX 2010 sample project fails to open in VS2010 express.
I am learning to use Revit 2012 and having a hard time figuring out why basic drafting features don't seem to work with reference planes. Aligning more than a few of these one-at-a-time is time consuming - any way to extend multiple reference plane lines to a boundary line or object? I read your instructions for offsetting reference planes - when I select the reference planes button in the home tab, the options bar allows me to set an offset distance but I am at a loss as to how one goes about getting the line to offset - I keep getting the layout dimension when i try to click on the line!

When I open the family all I see is ref. planes, I need to see them, I just want the closer to the parts not stick extremely far away. I can pick them one at a time, but sure would be nice to grab them at once.

In a project I'm working on we have some doors in large accordian room partitions that need to appear in the schedule however they will not be hosted in a wall in our model. The walls are 2d in the CAD background from a consultant. I created a door family that can be placed and scheduled however the "Room #" field does not populate. Is there a way to add that to the family? I believe the issue comes up because the doors are not in a wall that is "Room Bounding" or in a wall at all.

I can manipulate and open files in other programs in Windows, but everytime I try to open a .rvt or .rfa file in Revit from the server I get "Failed to open document". I can open .dwg files fine in Autocad, and I can even insert .dwg and images from the server into an open revit file.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe hole tool will not let me complete the holes if I delete the cross part references & re-create them again.
Note that I had to change some adaptive hole locations to follow a part that was moved & I couldn't get adaptivity turned on for all components involved (adaptivity grayed out on actual part to change). Not sure why I could turn adaptivity back on. So I opted to just recreate the cross part hole references in the parts hole sketch.
I find I have to now delete the holes completely & start over which causes extra work in IDW & IPN files downstream.
Is this as planned or am I doing something wrong. This used to be easy in 2012.

I'm trying to align a nested family to a reference line in my host family so that it rotates around a certain point.
I've created the reference line in my host family, locked the end point to two reference planes and then gave an angular parameter to the angle between the ref. line and the ref. plane.
I then inserted the nested family and aligned it to the ref. line. The problem is that when I flex the angle, i get a "Constraints not satisfied" error..
What could be wrong?
I'm using a generic face based family for both host and nested families...

How to set 2 adaptive points (AP) to control the position and diameter of a circle. Have tried setting a ref plane driven by circle dia param but justs results in overconstrain when flexed. Is it possible to a) lock the centre to an AP and lock redius to AP?
Is it possible also to lock a ref plane to an AP so that the AP drives it rather than the other way round?

I'm getting an error message that I don’t fully understand when using an adaptive component. "There is only one component in this repeater" I am trying to create a undulating ceiling and attach an adaptive "Rafter" to follow the form. I can occasionally get it to work but on occasion I receive the error message. I can send you the file if you like, I’m pretty sure it’s a “User Issue”!RAC 2013
I have been told that it is to do with the direction that I draw the curves but I would like a more indepth explanation of this error...
The other issue I'm having may have to do with the placement of the adaptive component on the node plane, depending on where I place the component it will change the orientation if the rafter...
I have created a "Jersey Barrier" as an adaptive component (attached). It is basically a profile extruded along a series of reference lines hooked to adaptive points.
In some plan views, under certain geometric configurations, the extrusion disappears in the view. The points highlight if you mouse over them. In a parallel 3D view, the component is still there. If I adjust the geometry in certain ways, the component will reappear in the plan view.
Here is an isolated view (3D on left, plan on right) with a configuration where the object does not appear in plan.here's a view where I have moved one of the adaptive points, and it appears in plan.
Isn't there a command that allows you to pick 2 lines and snap to the point of intersection when dimensioning an object with a fillet/chamfer? Typically I o-track it with apparent intersection with no issues, but its a little more difficult when your working with sloped lines, tracking doesnt like to follow angled lines. (Maybe its inventor that I'm think of that can do this?)

Every time I try to use VPE, the resulting mesh is fine (the dxf), but the PNGs do not match the drawn planes at all.
For example, I'll use a file from wikimedia. (all images re-compressed for the forum ) I draw the right wall, make sure it is blue, then pull the floor.Pull the floor and the left wallPull the back ground (hard to see in the compressed image, but it is there).Pull the ceiling.
The completed planes. Right wall was drawn, remaining were each pulled out the of the previous plane. All blue. Entire image is covered.Importing the VPE into After Effects CC. Note the wonky textures. Here are the actual textures (original PNGs compressed into JPEG for posting).
This is the background piece, note how the section of the image doesn't align at all with the plane I drew.I've successfully used the Vanishing Point filter extensively in previous versions of Photoshop. I'm currently using Photoshop CC on OSX 10.8.4 running on a 15" PowerBook Retina.
I've tried the following to no avail:differing JPEGsdrawing the floor firstdrawing the first surface counter-clockwise and clockwise : ) ensured all planes are bluedisabled graphics acceleration under prefererencescompleted uninstalled Photoshop and reinstalled with clean performance/preference settings (did not import any previous settings).removed the "Adobe Photoshop CC Settings" folder as well.Tried exporting a DXF, again mesh looks great, textures are wrong.

Form Autocad 2000 to 2012, there is always with this problem. It happens sometimes in object snap, it does not work to snap a intersection point (two crossed lines) when drawing a line or arc or others. For sure, these two lines are in the same plan and can be filleted or chamfered. So I turned on the Apparent intersection, it works with apparent intersection point, I am not sure if this apparent intersection will cause other problem. I am working on pure 2-D drawing, do not want to get any 3D objects inside the drawing.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a site plan with trees which look like two crossed planes when looked in 3D black and white. I wonder if there is a way to smooth these trees so they look smooth at least during the time that I prepare a PDF of the black and white 3D Site Plan. If this setting can be reverted to the crossed trees after preparing the PDF, that is fine. Also at this time I am working with black and white 3D, so color is not an issue, only the smoothness of the trees. Is there a setting that can make these trees look smooth?

View 3 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to find intersection poit of the anchor point and any point on path?
Like on a picture, there are an anchor poit from a line, which intersects arc path, and I need to find intersection poit on the arc (can be line) path. Thus I can do further processing for arc after intersection - change position, set color etc.
I suppose I need to divide that arc path and that will be the best way, but all I need for this moment extract point before intersection and after and process in our custom preview. Is there way to find this intersection?
I'm trying to crate an anchor point on an intersection of two paths. Not by 'joining paths' (as that joins them from the ends); I just want to join two paths in such a way that an anchor point is crated at the point where they intersect. That's how it works in Flash, but I can't figure it out in AI. I created an image to clarify what I'm trying to achieve.
