Revit :: Wall Hosted Families In Existing Walls

I have some families in a project such as sinks and cabinets that are wall hosted, but when I try to place them on the existing walls of the linked file they do not go there. Is there a setting to get around this?

Revit :: Draw A Railing Using Railing Command?

May 2, 2013

We're trying to draw a railing using the Revit railing command.  The issue that's coming up is that we want the balusters to be placed outwards from the center (as in there's a post in the middle of the span) and the remainders at the end posts are whatever they end up being.  One of the runs is small enough that the 5' baluster spacing is centered at the space (as if Revit insists on having at least a 5' space in there and it looks like this: |  |       |  | ).  What we've done for now is to tell it to space the balusters exactly the distance from center point to each end (like this: |     |     | ), but that means we'll have to make a new railing family for each run and that's very inefficient.  Is there any way to specify what we mean by center justification?

Revit :: Doors Not Hosted By Walls In Project

Mar 26, 2012

In a project I'm working on we have some doors in large accordian room partitions that need to appear in the schedule however they will not be hosted in a wall in our model.  The walls are 2d in the CAD background from a consultant.  I created a door family that can be placed and scheduled however the "Room #" field does not populate.  Is there a way to add that to the family?  I believe the issue comes up because the doors are not in a wall that is "Room Bounding" or in a wall at all.

Revit :: Can't Open Files Hosted On OS X Lion Server

Aug 22, 2011

I just upgraded the server for our small firm to OS X Lion.  The share is accessible from Windows and all permissions are the same as they were before the upgrade.  I can manipulate and open files in other programs in Windows, but everytime I try to open a .rvt or .rfa file in Revit from the server I get "Failed to open document".  I can open .dwg files fine in Autocad, and I can even insert .dwg and images from the server into an open revit file.

See specs below:

File Server:  Mac Pro running OS X 10.7.1

Revit :: Finding The Railing Host?

Feb 25, 2014

On my Revit project, I need to analise lots of stairs.

But, using the Revit LookUp, when I select one railing, I can`t identify the stair that is the host of this railing.

Or, on the other way, when I select one stair, I can`t identify the railings that are connected with that stair.

What can I do to recognize these on my code?

Revit :: Railing And Glass Baluster

Feb 9, 2012

I have this railing with glass baluster.  The glass baluster panel is 2'-0" in length.  The railing is not on a 2'-0" modular length so the last panel extends past the corner of the railing.  I can set the baluster placement to be centered on the railing which gives me a panel at each end that is extended past the corner.  I understand this is normal based on my what I am asking Revit to.  My question is, how can I get the 24" glass panels centered on the railing length but have the two end panels automatically adjust in lenght to make up the difference and not be 2'-0"?

Revit :: Railing Terminations Don't Show In Plan?

Nov 8, 2013

I've created custom railing terminations and applied them to a handrail. They appear in every view extept plan. Railing extensions show fine. Railing Terminations don't. I am including screenshots & the families. Visibility is on for all views and all detail levels. Linetype is set to solid in Object Styles and VG. View Range is fine. Cut plane is way above the railing and bottom is unlimited.

The weird thing is that the extenstions appear in blue when the railing is selected. But they dissappear otherwise.

Revit :: Egress Path - Railing Or Detail Item

Oct 8, 2013

I want to create an Egress path that automatically shows me the total length and also works through multiple levels. Cadastrophe had provided a method to do that with details. This gives good results. however, I didn't see a way to use it on stairs and multiple levels (for total length inc. mezzanines etc.)

I created a method with railings that seems to work including multiple floors and I also could schedule it (s. attached screenshot that shows me the lower floor and also the dashed Egress path on mezzanine). The way I did it was to create balusters that are shaped like arrows, and place them every 4 ft along the railing. So yes it is a bit cheating and a workaround, but works for Egress purposes.

I learned the hard way that railings aren't really families like windows etc. that I can save elsewhere, but more like walls that are not saved and manipulated separately. This also seems to apply to "handrail type", Railing", and "top Rail type". So I only could play with baluster families. However, those couldn't get shared parameters. So I'm a bit limited. I also wasn't able to create subcategories for balusters. So all the railing families are not as flexible as other families.

My concern with using railings is, how do I include actual railing on the stairs when the stair already has the "Egress railing"? And since I can't create subcategories, my views would show the "Egress railings" whenever I show normal railings. The only workaround seems to be to manually hide the railing I don't want to show in each view.

I know of the Stafford Egress method, but think what Cadastrophe provided is much better (and also what my railing does so far).

Revit :: Monolithic Stairs - Get Rid Of Line At Top?

Aug 25, 2011

My stairs go from Level 1 to 2 and join a concrete floor at level 2.

The stairs are monolithic.

The problem I have is that at the top of the stairs the end riser can be seen and so it appears as an extra tread when viewed in plan.

See attached file, the red cross marks the lines which I need to remove.

I cannot join the stairs to the slab.

How can I remove these lines - is there something better than a masking region? can I set something in the family?

Revit :: Stairs Below Level - How To Add A Cut Line

Apr 9, 2012

I noticed that Revit likes to show the entire stair going down.  This works for me in a lot of cases but I have a project that the second floor is showing the stair all the way down to the first floor, and there is another stair going from the second floor to the third that I really need to see.

Plan regions don't seem to allow me to add a break line below the second floor and see the stair from the second to the third floor. The floors are on and the view is set to hidden.

The attached png shows the up stairs in blue that I would like to see and the Down stairs I would like to cut at the landing.

Revit :: How To Create Railings Along Stairs

Nov 8, 2012

I have a stair that along one side of the sloping part is a window. I have 2 railings along this stair, 1 is a chair rail, the other is a wainscot panel. Obviously the chair rail and wainscot cannot be built to cover the window.

How can the railings be "cut" around the window?

I know how to start/stop the chair rail, but the wainscot needs to continue under the window (keeping in mind that the window is horizontal and the wainscot is sloping with the stair.)

Revit :: Joining Flights Of Stairs

Nov 6, 2013

I have the following flights of stairs running down one side of my building:

Landing, 6R with 170mm height, Landing, 3R with 190 height, Landing, 7R with 182 height.

I've modeled this as 3 separate flights of stairs because of the 3 different riser heights.  The top landing is a floor slab, as is the bottom landing.  I've modeled intermediate landings as either the top or bottom tread of a flight.  How do I deal with the junctions of these stairs? The monolithic concrete will not join.  The materials of both components are set to <By Category>.

Revit :: How To Create Flight Of Stairs By Component

Mar 4, 2013

I'm trying to create a flight of stairs by component (Revit 2013). When I view them in 3D I notice that one of the walls from Level 1 that should be "cut" where the stair run intersects the wall @ top of wall, does not cut and instead goes through the staircase up to level 2. How to get this wall to be "cut" following the rise of the stairs? I've remade the stairs dozens of times and it still does not automatically cut the wall.

Revit :: Sloped Floors - Join With Horizontal And Put Stairs

Mar 22, 2013

I have a situation of one sloped floor connecting two horizontal floors. They build together a continuous surface.

I need to join them and have the layers be continuous along the structure. If they were roofs, no problem, I could use the "roof by extrusion" command.

Should I do that? If I try to use floors.....

When I model them as three separate floors, and then Join them, it doesn't work. meaning that the layers within the floor don't match (well, they can't, in fact! I have to move the floor behind!)

If I model one single floor and then add split lines, and move them... it does work. BUT..... I have a stairs on top of it! the stairs have a different slope than the floor, and i need to build a variable layer that fills the void between the floor and the stairs.

So my hypothesis was: I put a sloped floor through the slope arrow... and then adjust one variable layer to do the inflill...

My dream would be to join then floor and stairs.... The material is the same
