Revit Architecture 2014? I've been trying to use the structural beam system, but when I select the joist I cannot select the start/end extension in the properties dialog box. I would like to know why is that?

Can you anchor columns at 3 column grid intersections... then draw this 3 node Structural Beam such that it will anchor also... so that... if you adjust the column grid... the columns and the 3 node structural member will adjust accordingly?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am creating a beam system. I click the "beam system" button on the structure panel. However, it then goes into sketch mode without stopping to allow me to select "automatic beam system" and/or "Tag on Placement." Fortunately, I can see that "automatic beam system" is already selected in the split second that flashes before going to sketch mode.
However, I do not have the opportunity to select the "Tag on Placement." I am really new to Revit and thus I am wondering if there is a different way to possibly turn on the tagging since the way I know is not an option.
I try to 'lock' a beam system that I have used for rafters to the underside of my roof.I've successfully got the walls and gables linked in with the roof, and have set up reference planes for cutting of rafters (that should - I think - mean that rafters can move slightly - or change pitch, whilst maintaining same cut extents at rafter ends).
Trouble is - the rafter Beam System does not update with the roof.
My creation approach for the Beam System was to select the underside of the roof as the 'Working Plane' - then edit the boundary to project beyond the walls and form the overhang. I projected it further than I required to provide the excess needed in case I wanted to push the cut plane outwards.
I assumed that selecting the underside of the roof as the working plane would 'lock' the two together, but it doesn't appear to work.Have I missed a straightforward step to link the two elements together ?
How do I get to the settings that control what does and does not show in any given discipline - we need to update the Structural Discipline to show the non-structural walls, and non-structural portions of other walls as halftone.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is quite weird because revit architecture 2013 is showing this error. In order to see beam in my architectural layout, we are changing the cut plane value in the view range. With this step I can see the beam but not the cut pattern of the beam..very weird. Also, one more thing, just to check I copy pasted beam modeled in revit 2011 in revit 2013 and I could see the cut pattern. So is something wrong with 2013 beam revit family?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been screwing around with beams in Revit for years and still have issues with the gaps at the connections. There is a shape handle and a structural component end. Either way, the beam decides where it wants to end. If I put two precast beams end to end, resting on an inverted tee girder that needs to have the 9" tee portion extend between the two joists, Revit doesn't like that and does its own thing. I move one, the other follows. I move both far enough away from eachother, then drag one end to where it needs to be, cool, then when I drag the other...boom...they snap together. Yes, I'm aware of the "start and end extension" in the properties window, this is incredibly time consuming and if one of the beams are switched around, I need to remember if this end was the start or end. In addition, the structural component end will go initially where it wants to, so there's no guarantee that if the parameters are correct, the beam/joist will be.
Can I remove all "rules" that beams have so I can place these correctly?
Having used another CAD program for several years, I was used to the idea that all radius dimensions, like of a given arc, would easily start at the center of the arc, thereby denoting the position of the arc's center.
I'm slightly bugged with some CAD users, even books on the subject by autocad users, that give an arc's dimension from the outside of the arc, yet fail to show the location of the arc's center when it may not be self explanatory. Not good dimensioning practice from what little I've been schooled...
So, in AutoCAD 2007, how do I get an arc's radius dimension line to start at the center and point out to the edge. I can do all kinds of things to the position of the text, etc, but can't figure how to get it to start at the center. (The dimension line needs to start at the center.)
The beam is continuous. The connection details are not important. They're some kind of plate welded to the beam and bolted through the column web. I don't need it to be able to do structural calculations.
Join won't select a structural column or beam. Align creates a rotation error because of the beam's pitch. The column height appears to only change by the Level, but again the beam is pitched. Setting the height above the beam breaks the beam.

If i draw a beam in plan view en define the height, the beam disepare. Is there a posibility that the beam is in place and you can see a dash dot line and two dashed lines in plan view?

View 4 Replies View RelatedRank beginner using 2010 version autocad. When starting a new drawing using the New command > Opening up Template dialog box. I don't see the file extension acad.dwt in the Name drop down list. What I do see in the Template dialog box while looking & working its way down in the Name drop down list is acad - name plot sytles acad - name plot styles 3d acad & acad 3d and so on contuning down the line. While giving it a file name to save it high lighed in blue is acad.dwt.
Under File type in the Template dialog box there are 3 options. They are Drawing Template (*dwt) Drawing (*dwg) & Standard (*dws). In the Drafting settings dialog box Object Snap tab is opened all options are selected. On the staus bar Object Snaps & Dynamic Input are both on. When starting a new drawing the file extention acad. dwt has been on and working for weeks up intill zipping and unzipping files yesterday for a tutorial that I am working on in regards to 2010 autocad software.
I was following a tutorial when he created a structural plan where he'd place his footings. when i tried it on my Revit Architecture 2014, i found out that i didn't have that feature. is there any way i can turn it on?
i'm not sure if he's using revit architecture because he just refers to it as Revit 2014. i made a floor plan below the 0 mark but things will be tidier if i could make structural plan views.
In my 3D View my walls disappear when I de-select the structural box. Although drawn as regular walls they are store front panels so carry no load other than their own weight. My Visibility Graphics dialog box seems to have limited options for this. Am I missing something? How do I get them to re-appear in my 3D View for rendering without switching them to a structural wall?

I am doing the structural frame of a house with curved walls and I needed to use the Model in Place command to create a curve shaped column. I defined it's category as Structural Column, but it takes the fill pattern of the wall. When I isolate the column, it has the same fill pattern as the column from the library. I need that the column will be displayed as the other structural column.

All of a sudden, today, with no updates installed for either software or OS, it's Crashing (not responding) on program start-up, always at same point, when says "find system profiles". I did the ctrl+alt+shift start-up and reset, to no avail. I'm about to start going into all the other clean up options... but was hoping one of the forum gurus would recognize what's happened and point me in the right direction without all the trial-and-error fun.

I open the extension box to select the file type and there just isnt the option anymore. Do i have to reinstall GIMP or should I revert back to 2.6? I wouldnt think they would get rid of the ability to save in different formats so there must be a problem somewhere.
