Apr 24, 2013I just discovered the rafter framing extensions for revit. It is very handy but at places where there is a hip/valley the rafters are shown until the hip/valley. at all the other places (where there are ridges) they are cut at the place where the roof is cut.
I found another thread where they say to change the visibility settings of the rafter family what I already did before but it does not change anything in my floor plan.

Jun 29, 2012We are using structural steel framing familiies which are sloping in section. Where the view range cuts, the framing does not and the entire member is visible including above the cut plane.
The members are set to cut in plan in "Visiilbity Settings." The view is set to "Fine."

Jan 17, 2013I'm currently looking into switching from Vectorworks to Revit due to a job application I'm being offered. What I really want to know is if the following floor plan is possible to make in Revit. I just want floor plans to be with color to better show the different things on it and make them more clear.
I also want to know if it is possible to show symbols in a plan view other than just a rendered hidden line view of the 3D part of it, so I can have a simplified version for the plan view and a detailed object for the 3D. Like you have a 2D-plan component for the plan views and e 3D component for all other views.
Revit :: Doors Will Not Show Up In First Floor Plan?
Nov 2, 2011Somehow today all the doors and cased openings dissapeared in my first floor plan.
They show up in the 3d views, sections, and second floor plan, but not in the first. I have checked the visibilty settings, and they are all checked and correct, and I have checked the height of my floor cut, which is adequately at 4 feet high. Additionally, if I make the detail level "fine" then the casings will show up around the wall but the wall will not show the door cut. The doors show up in a previous version of the model, so I'm not sure what has happened to cause the dissapearance.
Revit :: Railing Terminations Don't Show In Plan?
Nov 8, 2013I've created custom railing terminations and applied them to a handrail. They appear in every view extept plan. Railing extensions show fine. Railing Terminations don't. I am including screenshots & the families. Visibility is on for all views and all detail levels. Linetype is set to solid in Object Styles and VG. View Range is fine. Cut plane is way above the railing and bottom is unlimited.
The weird thing is that the extenstions appear in blue when the railing is selected. But they dissappear otherwise.
Revit :: Change Pitch Of Top Chord By Increasing Ridge Height
Sep 3, 2013I'm building a PEMB frame family partly to teach myself and because none of the ones I could find online match the ones I'm working with. It's been a bumpy road but I've gotten the family to the point where there are parameters and elements for the flange, web, baseplate & girts.
Where I've run into a problem are the bracing flanges. The flange at the top of the column was simple enough since it's always horizontal but the beam braces are all 90 deg to the top chord. Any refrence plane or reference line drawn from the intersection of the bottom & column chords to the top chord does not move with the other chords when the family types are changed. I applied a 90 deg angular dimension constraint between the top chord and the bracing flange but when I change the pitch of the top chord by increasing the Ridge Height Revit gives me a warning message that the constraint is no longer satisfied instead of rotating the flange!

Nov 18, 2013I am creating a beam system. I click the "beam system" button on the structure panel. However, it then goes into sketch mode without stopping to allow me to select "automatic beam system" and/or "Tag on Placement." Fortunately, I can see that "automatic beam system" is already selected in the split second that flashes before going to sketch mode.
However, I do not have the opportunity to select the "Tag on Placement." I am really new to Revit and thus I am wondering if there is a different way to possibly turn on the tagging since the way I know is not an option.

Aug 5, 2013This is quite weird because revit architecture 2013 is showing this error. In order to see beam in my architectural layout, we are changing the cut plane value in the view range. With this step I can see the beam but not the cut pattern of the beam..very weird. Also, one more thing, just to check I copy pasted beam modeled in revit 2011 in revit 2013 and I could see the cut pattern. So is something wrong with 2013 beam revit family?

Mar 7, 2012I've been screwing around with beams in Revit for years and still have issues with the gaps at the connections. There is a shape handle and a structural component end. Either way, the beam decides where it wants to end. If I put two precast beams end to end, resting on an inverted tee girder that needs to have the 9" tee portion extend between the two joists, Revit doesn't like that and does its own thing. I move one, the other follows. I move both far enough away from eachother, then drag one end to where it needs to be, cool, then when I drag the other...boom...they snap together. Yes, I'm aware of the "start and end extension" in the properties window, this is incredibly time consuming and if one of the beams are switched around, I need to remember if this end was the start or end. In addition, the structural component end will go initially where it wants to, so there's no guarantee that if the parameters are correct, the beam/joist will be.
Can I remove all "rules" that beams have so I can place these correctly?

Sep 9, 2013The beam is continuous. The connection details are not important. They're some kind of plate welded to the beam and bolted through the column web. I don't need it to be able to do structural calculations.
Join won't select a structural column or beam. Align creates a rotation error because of the beam's pitch. The column height appears to only change by the Level, but again the beam is pitched. Setting the height above the beam breaks the beam.

Apr 14, 2013I try to 'lock' a beam system that I have used for rafters to the underside of my roof.I've successfully got the walls and gables linked in with the roof, and have set up reference planes for cutting of rafters (that should - I think - mean that rafters can move slightly - or change pitch, whilst maintaining same cut extents at rafter ends).
Trouble is - the rafter Beam System does not update with the roof.
My creation approach for the Beam System was to select the underside of the roof as the 'Working Plane' - then edit the boundary to project beyond the walls and form the overhang. I projected it further than I required to provide the excess needed in case I wanted to push the cut plane outwards.
I assumed that selecting the underside of the roof as the working plane would 'lock' the two together, but it doesn't appear to work.Have I missed a straightforward step to link the two elements together ?
