Revit :: Show Sloped Rafters In Section And In Plan Correctly?
Mar 25, 2013
How to show sloped rafters in section and in plan correctly? The attached plan shows the rafters as a structural beam system and I do not know how to slope the beam system to match the roof pitch.

I have a 6 pitch connecting to a 9 pitch roof. I go and make an eyebrow dormer along the 6" pitch roof and the dormer automatically is drawn as a 9 pitch with a crazy peak (almost church like). I cannot adjust the pitch of the eyebrow to make it look appealing.

I accidently deleted a section marker from a plan view. The section still exists and in shown in other plan views. I feel stupid for asking, but how can I get the section marker to reappear on the original plan view?

I just created a simple winodw family. I don't understand it looks fine in the reference level within the family.
But once I placed it in the project, it only shows the top mullion, I had to delete the top mullion within the family to make the plan view look right. What's the reason of it?

I'm currently looking into switching from Vectorworks to Revit due to a job application I'm being offered. What I really want to know is if the following floor plan is possible to make in Revit. I just want floor plans to be with color to better show the different things on it and make them more clear.
I also want to know if it is possible to show symbols in a plan view other than just a rendered hidden line view of the 3D part of it, so I can have a simplified version for the plan view and a detailed object for the 3D. Like you have a 2D-plan component for the plan views and e 3D component for all other views.

Somehow today all the doors and cased openings dissapeared in my first floor plan.
They show up in the 3d views, sections, and second floor plan, but not in the first. I have checked the visibilty settings, and they are all checked and correct, and I have checked the height of my floor cut, which is adequately at 4 feet high. Additionally, if I make the detail level "fine" then the casings will show up around the wall but the wall will not show the door cut. The doors show up in a previous version of the model, so I'm not sure what has happened to cause the dissapearance.

I've created custom railing terminations and applied them to a handrail. They appear in every view extept plan. Railing extensions show fine. Railing Terminations don't. I am including screenshots & the families. Visibility is on for all views and all detail levels. Linetype is set to solid in Object Styles and VG. View Range is fine. Cut plane is way above the railing and bottom is unlimited.
The weird thing is that the extenstions appear in blue when the railing is selected. But they dissappear otherwise.

I'm trying to find a way of filtering the 'work in progress' section visibilities from a plan by view filters. The filter I use is 'Sheet Name' equal '<None>'. Then turning off visibility. It works when used in the Browser organisation filters but not in the view filter for the sheets.
I don't want to create a check box or dialogue box for the sheet as this will add to the required maintenance.

by default revit shows roof plan in the Site plan view.
Is it possible to show site plan that one line would represent building contour? Also is it possible to cast shadows of all the building if the first floor is selected?
i was trying to make site plan from the fist floor, but since i gave intense topography ground is being cut and i need full topography. i am using 2013 revit.

I'm looking to basically do what this video shows:
[URL]........
I just want to create a section from the point cloud, but the point cloud won't allow me to select it as an object in the 'Generate 2D/3D section' dialogue as it's not a solid/surface.
On an unrelated note, I find snapping to the point cloud impossible - is there an option in OSNAP that I'm missing? I've tried this with attached PCGs and RCP point clouds, no difference.

I read a 2009/10 thread, "Rotating lighting", describing how to work around the problem of family lighting fixture members not rotating. I would hope there is a better solution today.
I simply want to place a lighting fixture - std 2x4 flourescent, on a 7 deg sloped ceiling. The axis of rotation is the long run of the light fixture. Is this not possible in Revit 2013?
Or, do I have to dredge up the work around from 3 releases ago and attempt to discern how to make it work?
It seems like I should just be able to set the family to use a work plane-based assignment and then place it with the correct work plane active. That is not happening. The light fixture doesn't want to rotate the 7 degrees to align with the work plane.

How do I show high level walkways and balconies (in dashed outline) on the ground floor plan in a high volume space?
Obviously I can turn the first floor RCP on in the view and manually draw the information, but I assume these lines won't move if the walkways above move (or am I wrong?). Also this seems slightly wrong given the amount of automation available.

Working on a project with a green house. I created a roof using "roof by footprint". I selected "sloped glazing" and assigned mullions for the various conditions as well as spacing.
The walls below are curtain walls. When I create the roof, the mullions are oriented the wrong way. How do I control the orientation of the mullions?
In desperation, I mirrored the roof about a vertical axis. See images below.
This corrected the orientation for me, but I must believe there is a better way! A "proper way"... Did I miss something in the initial creation of the roof? I changed the sloped glazing of the roof to a basic roof. When I do this I notice the roof moves up.
I assume this is when the orientation of my roof inverted...

I have a situation of one sloped floor connecting two horizontal floors. They build together a continuous surface.
I need to join them and have the layers be continuous along the structure. If they were roofs, no problem, I could use the "roof by extrusion" command.
Should I do that? If I try to use floors.....
When I model them as three separate floors, and then Join them, it doesn't work. meaning that the layers within the floor don't match (well, they can't, in fact! I have to move the floor behind!)
If I model one single floor and then add split lines, and move them... it does work. BUT..... I have a stairs on top of it! the stairs have a different slope than the floor, and i need to build a variable layer that fills the void between the floor and the stairs.
So my hypothesis was: I put a sloped floor through the slope arrow... and then adjust one variable layer to do the inflill...
My dream would be to join then floor and stairs.... The material is the same

I am trying to create a sloped wall by creating a mass in-place. First I draw a line on a surface at a pre-determined level that I've set up in elevation. Then I offset this line in the vertical plane. My next step is to offset this second line so that it is not directly above the original line, but offset in the horizontal plane. How do I change from a vertical to a horizontal offset? I’ve tried different work planes, but they all offset vertically.

Is there a way to avoid super Elevation or Side Friction in Sloped Surfaces for Curves, such as Building Pads, Ramps, Floors, etc.. Is it mandatory.. ?? Its a problem all the time worrying about matching levels in topo surface and floors for gradual slopes in site and side friction in sloped ramps or sloped building pads.. that matching line between levels doesn't look good while giving presentations..
I have also attached an image for reference.. both the sloped surfaces are building pads..

I need to make an 11" x 17" copy of my plot plan for a propane tank installation. I drew everything out the best I could to scale, however I think I may have chosen the incorrect scale. The original complete area was suppose to show 92' x 234' but my actual proposed area is only in a 14' x 10' area. So when I went to print out a PDF everything was super tiny. The original idea was every 2 cubes/squares = 1 foot.
I've tried several ways to the best of my knowledge to correct the problem even attempting to reduce it to 50' x 100' but I seem to get the same problem where if I choose to print it it wont display the Linear Dimensions I have set (as it will print it out super tiny). I even thought of maybe trying a standard 8.5" x 11" then blowing it up at kinko's but same issue.

I am modifying topography to include multiple building pads at varying levels and also including sloped pads. I am having a non-consistent problem at the common boundary of some pads. A small sliver of topography sometimes 'sticks through' the common boundary. The height it sticks through seems arbitary, sometimes to the height of the original topography when cutting and sometimes much higher. I have used the copy/paste aligned commands to ensure the boundaries are exactly common but this does not work.
I have read that some users cut the topography globally and then build up the various levels and ramps using floors and the variable floor thickness command. This seems a bit cumbersome and I imagine would cause problems when cutting sections etc.

I am working on some detail drawings. To save time, I simply modify the previous drawings. However, when i need to adjust the height of, for example, a window, by stretching or pulling, none can have the hatched area lengthened or reduced. In ''quick properties", the associative is not applicable if i change it from N-->Y. I'm wondering if i am doing any step wrong.
