Revit :: Import TXT Files For Sheet Notes Or Specifications?
Nov 11, 2012
I am just finished a residential project modeling in Revit 2010. I am working on construction set and need to import .TXT files from previous project for general notes, code compliance report, etc. I have my custom keynote file (.TXT) for user notes.
Any way to create sheet notes in Revit? I would like to be able to point at anything and place a tag (like a circle with a letter inside) and then have a list of notes that I can place on the sheet. I don't want to have to tag a specific item (like a door or a wall), I just want the arrow to indicate a point in space (like an arrow connected to text), but have a tag at the end of the arrow instead of text then have that tag reference some sort of legend that I can place on a sheet. Is this possible in Revit? If not, why not - this is a common requirement in architectural drawings.
I am trying to import a sheet with multiple drawings on it from AutoCAD to a sheet in Revit but when I do so all I get are the lines showing the AutoCAD sheet and the drawing labels but no actual drawings. I have done this before and can't figure what is going wrong. I have the import options set to color: black and white, levels/layers: specify and unit: inch. I also don't have AutoCAD on my workstation and it is a very large hotel project with hundreds of specific details and sheets that I do not want and do not have time to change or redo.
The DWGs I have are all set up as sheets and I don't have any individual details or drawings of the project not already set up as an AutoCAD sheet. I thought I could make the process simple by just importing the DWG sheet with all drawings to a Revit sheet at the correct scale, explode the layers, delete what I don't need and be done, this is NOT the case. Also I can get access to AutoCAD on another workstation after hours .
Currently we have about 30 sheets where we xref the same construction note and legend. The client is asking us to remove notes that don't apply to each sheet. For example, sheet 1 will not need note 2, 6, 10, 11. Sheet 2 will not need 3, 5, 10, and 11, etc.
Same goes for the legend- they don't want to see something if it does not apply to the sheet.
Other than bringing in those notes and legend into each sheet and modifiying it, I can't think of another way to do this. Previously, if I needed to change the wording of note 4, I change it once and I'm done. If I need to change anything now, I will need to open up 20 sheets.
Also, they want to remove the note completely, and not just cover up the note with "Not used this sheet."
I posted this in Autocad General but was wondering if I can do something using C3D tables or labels...

I'd like to create sheet notes with different line spacing and paragraph spacing in ACA 2013. When I change before/after Paragraph spacing settings in the Text Formatting window, I get a message reading "please provide a value within range of 1/4" and 4". I'd like to use 1/8" for the paragrpah spacing, which is the same size as the text.
I have several spaces with the same types of case work. But instead of having each type have a general key note, I would like each instance of the type have a unique key note similar to the way doors work.
I am new to using Revit and I am just trying to figure out how it works to be honest. I have made a 2 floor building in ACAD ARCH 13 and when I import the DWG files into Revit, they just show the 2D line drawings even when I look in 3D mode. Do I have to re make all of the walls and such in Revit or am I missing a step to import all of the windows, doors, and wall heights?
is it possible to change the line patern of leaders in text notes, from solid to dash or another one? I know I can change the tick type but can´t find anything for the line.
I have been trying to import my 3d views to 3ds max from revit as fbx files which has worked. But when trying to save it says either error writing to file or file is possibly corrupt. I have tried resaving and creating new files but that has resulted in the same problem, as well as creating new export files from revit, and saving on my h drive or on seperate usbs that have had no success.
I'm trying to import/ open IFC files to Revit, I have 6 diffrent IFC files but when I try to open/import in revit, nothing happens, not even an error message.
I need to create an image to these exact specifications:
542px x 300px at 150 dpi in the GIF format.
I have tried over and over scaling my source (a JPG at 300 dpi) to those exact specifications, but once I export to a GIF, the resulting file is at 72 dpi. I feel like a dummy. Better yet, are those specifications even possible?
I created an ad using one PMS color after orginially being told that it was a "Thanksgiving 4 column x 4.5” spot color ad”. I received the following message from the newspaper printer today:
"Please relay to your corporate art department that the newspaper does not print in PMS/Pantone colors, except on a full color page, which requires an additional color charge. For spot color, we print in primary colors such as red or green, or in cyan or magenta alone.
As I understood it, spot color meant pantone, and CMYK was process. Am I wrong here or are the printers using the term "spot color" incorrectly?
I need some adivice on making 2d drawings of Pump stations, septic tanks, wells - here are some examples URLs...What program should i use ? If i add block to drawing can i get the specifications of the object automatically into a table, just like in example drawings.
Every time I open a photo in Organizer with Editor, Editor changes the time specificaciones of the photo to one hour earlier. So the photos changes the order in Organizer. What is the reason and how to repair it?
Any way to add a new field into the materials database. We would like to be able to choose the material specification for the materials we use. So we would like to have a field for each of the materials where we could choose the material spec. It would also be great if we could then be able to connect this to our BOM. The second part I know should be able to be done but so far haven't found a way to add the material spec in like we would like.
Can Adobe Elements 11 make edits to photos on the following photo specificiations?

I've to put some data as like table beside the figure. I've these data in a excel sheet. Can i import that sheet in CAD? or I need use table and re-type all data?
I notice that a 3D view on a Sheet, when the view is "activated" and with the crops regions on, can be reshaped, but I do not see a way to make what is shown on the view a tad "larger" (i.e., bigger, like zooming in). (I have tried, but I might be missing something?)
I wonder if there is way to scale a 3D on the sheet, to make the "scale" of only one of the 3D's larger on this sheet (without affecting the scale of the other views on the Sheet). Is this possible?
I typically import layouts into my sheet set. Looking for some information on setting up a better sheet set template with layout created that just need to be populated with my views on how others use sheet set manager.

I am trying to take a countertop that I have in this bathroom remodel floor plan and place it onto a separate sheet so that I can send it out for pricing. I created a new sheet "countertop details" However, it is not letting me add it - I keep getting this warning "Can't create this kind of element in this view in the current mode." I know the answer is in one of the parameters but I am still trying to get used to this program and teaching myself.
Was instructed to use arch titleblock. I created my own shared parameters file. I can physically click on the sheet and name the sheet but the name doesnt change in the project browser,
So I created a shared parameters file. I created the parameters I needed (in this case the sheet title). The parameter properties discipline set to common, type set to text. I edited each label I wanted to re-associate. Hit new, selected the shared parameter, removed the arch label and added mine. I loaded into project and had it overwrite parameters. Then I went to the project parameters and added my shared parameters and under category applied to the sheets.
why the two (project browser and the sheet itslef arent talking?
I am able to get the parameter to appear on the project information tab, but I cannot get the information to appear on the sheet. I would like to create a phase parameter on the sheet so that different projects under the same building will be specific to the project and not just the building.
Today I adjusted our title block. Scale is automated by the scale view of the views placed. It becomes 'as indicated' is multiple scale are used. No problem, that part I can live with (/ workaround).
Sadly the scale doesn't appear on a sheet list schedule. Which surprises me . With revit 2012 I was wondering: I am wrong? If not: do you have a nice workaround which doesn't mean I have to manually input it.
I was wondering if it's possible to create a sheet list that uses keys. I'm trying to create a sheet list that will also have key dates listed with whether or not changes occurred to that sheet (something our project managers like to see). In the attached image you can see how we're doing it today.
I can get everything with the exception of the dates that allow a yes/no style for them. Is there anyway to recreate this in Revit? If not could I make a separate key schedule for just the date portion and align it with the sheet list. In essence creating two separate schedules aligned so it looks like one schedule? I tried setting up that, but cant seem to create a key schedule that will allow me to use sheet items for sorting purposes.
