I am new to using Revit and I am just trying to figure out how it works to be honest. I have made a 2 floor building in ACAD ARCH 13 and when I import the DWG files into Revit, they just show the 2D line drawings even when I look in 3D mode. Do I have to re make all of the walls and such in Revit or am I missing a step to import all of the windows, doors, and wall heights?
View 9 RepliesI have been trying to import my 3d views to 3ds max from revit as fbx files which has worked. But when trying to save it says either error writing to file or file is possibly corrupt. I have tried resaving and creating new files but that has resulted in the same problem, as well as creating new export files from revit, and saving on my h drive or on seperate usbs that have had no success.

When I import the shapefiles created in my leica/topcon equipment into Map3D (mapimport) there is the possibility to select which attributes are going to be imported with an import profile file (.ipf).
How do I create the above and save it so that I do not have to go through the same process again?
I used Revit Architecture to build up a project. It is now ready for all further task you can do with Revit MEP, like electricity and plumping.
I tried serveal ways to import the rvt file in Revit MEP. If I just open my Revit Arcitecutre file I have all my views and cuts but I can't install any tube or wire because the view is missing where I should see it.
The other way I tried is to open a new MEP project by using the standart template and link it with my Revit Arcitecture file. That works, but I only get a shape of my project and it is really hard to navigate without all the views I was used to in the Revit Arcitecutre.
How can I use MEP on my current project by keeping the views and structure of my Revit Arcitecture file.
I am currently using a Nikon D7100 and recording my photos in the Raw/NEF-RAW format. Recently, whenever I am uploading my photos to Lightroom 5, my photos are changing to .dng files rather than staying in the NEF file. When I go and look back at my previous imports from the past few times, they are in NEF and NOT in .dng. Why is this doing this and how do I turn this feature off so that my files remain the same going from my camera to my computer through importation.

However I have a file where I cannot change the material no matter what I do. I tried importing it as a family, I tried exploding the dwg, I tried setting the layers to 'color by layer'. It is beyond me
There is another file where I can only change some layers but not the others.
Is it possible to import a 3D DWG (lines) to be used as a path for a sweep? I'm assuming (because I've found that it appears not to possible) that model lines must be assigned to a workplane and that "floating" 3D lines from a DWG aren't assigned workplanes and therefore can't be converted into Revit Model Lines.

When I click the import or load button the program appears to freeze and no dialog box appears. I can hit escape and its back to normal. I tried seeing if the dialog box was hidden behind all my open programs but I can't seem to locate it anywhere.

For example, I'm trying to place a water closet family and the modify ribbon is giving me "Import Instance" instead of placement options (as in placing on a face) like it did just a couple days ago. I was placing these water closets in this same model just a few days ago and it was working fine. I've imported a few DWG files since then and now I'm getting this behavior. how do I undo it?

It's great that the 'link cad' does it but why not import cad? This would be very useful as we model certain things (pipework statues,) from point cloud and model on other software, then we bring into revit, so we use the same coordinates as the point cloud (O.S coordinates.)
Also I'm glad that Autodesk have added the shared coordinates to the point cloud insert for Revit 2013.
I'm a new user working with Revit Architecture 2010. I'm trying to import a product from Steelcase (sliding door office fronts). I've downloaded them. They are listed in the project browser. I select the familiy from the project browser. The Type Properties window then displays. I click load. The Imperial Library window displays but the item displayed in the project browser window is not listed in any folder.
Revit learning curve frustration is setting in.

I'm thinking fo creating generically-named materials in the prototype set - Brick-Base and Brick-Accent, for example - with the idea that the specific material data for the function can be changed for each site-specific building.
While this certainly can be done manually, is there a way to import material data - and not just rendering appearance data but all of the data - into a model, either from another model or better yet, from some sort of data file? Ideally you would only import the materials for which you need to change the data.
I'm working on a project incorporating field inspections into a Revit model. I have a model built, and I'm trying to export information regarding each structural element (family, type & instance, dimensions, etc) into an 'inspection sheet' (excel spreadsheet or text file). After the field inspection, my goal is to update the Revit model with inspection results. For example, damage to a beam might include a reduced cross sectional area/reduced moment of inertia.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have created a model within revit architecture 2013 which I want to export as a gbxmL and open in the open studio 1.1.0 interface within sketchup. When I export the gbxmL model into sketchup it does not have a floor, and an error saying surface has two adjacent spaces which are the same space (warning repeated for each room), room will not be translated, and also surface has no adjacent spaces, will not be translated appears.
All spaces are bound to the floor and roof, and zones are correctly assigned, and the model has a location. There are no errors when the export to gbxml is to take place for analytical surfaces or for the rooms. What might be wrong in the way I have assigned rooms/spaces?
I am trying to import a sheet with multiple drawings on it from AutoCAD to a sheet in Revit but when I do so all I get are the lines showing the AutoCAD sheet and the drawing labels but no actual drawings. I have done this before and can't figure what is going wrong. I have the import options set to color: black and white, levels/layers: specify and unit: inch. I also don't have AutoCAD on my workstation and it is a very large hotel project with hundreds of specific details and sheets that I do not want and do not have time to change or redo.
The DWGs I have are all set up as sheets and I don't have any individual details or drawings of the project not already set up as an AutoCAD sheet. I thought I could make the process simple by just importing the DWG sheet with all drawings to a Revit sheet at the correct scale, explode the layers, delete what I don't need and be done, this is NOT the case. Also I can get access to AutoCAD on another workstation after hours .
