We work with prototype buildings that can have material color variations from site to site. For example, a brick version of a prototype can have several different brick palettes from which to choose.
I'm thinking fo creating generically-named materials in the prototype set - Brick-Base and Brick-Accent, for example - with the idea that the specific material data for the function can be changed for each site-specific building.
While this certainly can be done manually, is there a way to import material data - and not just rendering appearance data but all of the data - into a model, either from another model or better yet, from some sort of data file? Ideally you would only import the materials for which you need to change the data.
I am usually fine with changin the materials by going to visibility settings- imports and changing the materials.
However I have a file where I cannot change the material no matter what I do. I tried importing it as a family, I tried exploding the dwg, I tried setting the layers to 'color by layer'. It is beyond me
There is another file where I can only change some layers but not the others.
I can export from Revit to 3ds, and the materials come in, but all the material links are broken. How can I import the textures in to 3ds Max? I am trying to do an architectural walkthrough, btw.
Is there a way in Revit to export or import settings much like a profile in AutoCAD and how I set up the icon to point at that profile when the program opens? I would like to know how be able to customize where the program looks for the families and other items over the network, so all users can see the same thing, in options.
Attached is the properties of the AutoCAD icon. The Target is set-up to point to the "AutoCAD Architecture (US Imperial)" profile. I would like to do something similar in the Revit icon.
I'm trying to import one Revit file into another. When I try to link the file I get a dialogue box that says:
"The import geometry will not be visible in the view using current settings. The Oringin of the import will be centered on the origin of the model instead. You can view the import in any view where its geometry is within the extents."
For this it sounds like the imported model is way off to the side or way up high or low but even in a view that I increase the extents to maximum i can't see the object.
I've tried "center to centre" and "origin to origin". I've check in the visual graphic and can't see anything turned off.
The file i am imported ia a structural model export from Tekla that I imported into a Revit and cleaned up. Everything looks fine when i open the file on it's own.
I have added a 4 Panel Sliding Door from the standard Revit family. I would now like to only change the colour of the frame in lets say my north elevation. My understand is that this would be done by overriding the frame material via Manage>Object Styles>Doors>Frame/Mullion, then applying a new material.
I have made sure that my shade colour is set to the correct RGB value, and in my north elevation I have my Visual Style set to shaded.
I have a roof plan where I am showing a high roof and low roof on the same view. I created a plan region around the low roof area and set the cut planes accordingly to show that roof. The walls under the low roof do not correctly display the existing walls losing the phase half tone and hidden lines. See the attached image. I can pick away at the walls one at a time to override the lines, but that is a PITA. Is this a bug problem with Revit 2014 Design Suite or a user problem?
I'm using Sheet Set Manager in Autocad 2011. I'm using 'page setup override', and as plot area 'print extents'. So far, so good. Until someone forgets something outside the title block, and the extents feature is not good anymore (several people working in the same projects).
So, I decide to use as plot area 'Layout' instead, typing the X & Y to determine the area to be plotted.
Now, the setup "override" doesn't override. It’s using the drawing plot area from the drawing itself, which completely defeats the purpose. Am I missing something?
This issue occured shortly after update to 4.2, but not directly after. I am using windows 8.
The issue that occurs is after importing images they are adjusted automatically to develop module cross process 1. After dealing with this annoyance for a bit of time I realized that I can not even "RESET ALL" the images to delete the adjustment. In delving into other images that have been in my database for quite some time, I have tried to "RESET ALL", which resets images to CROSS PROCESS 1. I have never set import to automatically adjust.
When the 'up' arrow appears in a thumbnail and comes up with the message:
The metadata for one or more of these photos has been changed by another application. Should Lightroom import settings from disk or overwrite disk settings with those from the catalog?
What exactly does that mean? This seems to happen every time I export an image to PS (CS5) and return to LR. What exactly has changed? What settings are being imported if I choose 'import settings from disk'.
If i choose a generic wall, and spilt it into layers, and let say the middle layer is going to be insulation, when i click on the material button nothing happens?, I can't load a material, it's a huge problem, and i have tried to repair revit, and uninstall in then reinstall, didn't work.
is there a way to specify a new construction material with a new material id number in the xml file so that when I construct a wall for example, I can pull that material into the wall layer? For example, I'd like to create a new insulation material that's currently not in the normal material library, but I don't know how to specify the material id number in the xml file...
After the import it shows the differnt meshes, but underneath each mesh it has the same material name.
If i click on the material tab, it show a whole bunh of materials, but when i click them nothing gets selected, only when i click the 'default' material the whole model gets selected
is there away to change the individual mesh's materials manually,
I can't get Revit to display the cut material of a stair (landing or run) in 2013 using the new stairs... i have tried different settings in object styles, visibility/graphics, materials, details levels, phasing all without success.
Successfully show material cut pattern on a stair in section?
In the attached i have the new "Component" stair next to the old style "By Sketch" stair, the sketch stair shows the cut pattern the component one does not, this is the same section view not two sections.
I have duplicated many floors now in the Revit program and applied the same material to them and no matter what I end up with a duplicate area for that material in the floor material schedule takeoff.
Steps taken to correct this so far are:
1. Technical support @ Autodesk suggested that I uncheck the wrap part in the floor edit. The floor already has it unchecked and furthermore the wrap part is greyed out.
2. I have used parts and I guess that I can do this for it works. it is just that I would like to do floors because I don't have to spend time dividing them for a simple material takeoff.
I just want to be able to apply a material to a floor and have that floor shedule the area of that material only ONCE!
When I go into the materials tab to duplicate and rename a material, Revit crashes. I enable to duplicate the material fine and if I do not want to rename it, everything goes okay. As soon as I rename the material and click okay, Revit quits working and needs to close.
I'm using Revit 2013 and I have all of the current updates installed.
I created a short 3 minute video of what exactly happens.
I am trying to use an Opacity Map in a Revit 2013 material. However, it seems to modify all materials of that category rather than the specific material (ie: Chrome, Polished) - same thing happens even if I duplicate and rename a material. I am trying to create a perforated metal screen panel for a curtain wall and an opcity map seemed the logical strategy
Been doing a couple of renders of a section through a wall with an external rain-screen cladding. Is there any way to alter the appearance / alignment of the texture shown in the cut surface (not the main surface - I can define that OK via the material).
Ideally I would like a realistic view of a material - but something that looks more like a cut CMU rather than the usual surface.Failing that - is it possible to use a flat consistent colour through all cut surfaces (ie all white) ?
I know I could do that last one in Photoshop - but it will be a real painstaking process.
I have applied a material to a wall sweep, but whenever the sweep turns a corner the material flips upside down.Note that the frieze is supposed to be on top.
I am using Revit 2013 and have built a material library for the company I work for. It has been working fine up until about an hour ago. Now when I try to open up the material library I created it says "No assets in this library". I can't figure out why there is nothing there. And I don't want to have to recreate all my materials I already created! I can still find the file in my folders and it says theres 3930 KB of information in the file. I included a picture of what my Assest Editor and Asset Browser show when I try to open my library.
I am able to easily import sanitary sewer pipe and structure information from existing GIS information using the import wizard. I do have one issue that I can't figure out how to fix: even though I match the material field in the GIS shapefile to the material field in the import wizard, the material for the imported pipe network defaults to concrete pipe. I have tried updating the shapefile and the part in Part Builder so that the material information matches exactly, but it still happens. I can work around this by selecting "Swap Part" for each pipe and then selecting the correct pipe material and diameter, but this can be tedious when dealing with a lot of pipes.
I am creating a carpet tile family that is sized at 18"x36". When I load the image from the manufacture into the material I give it the 18"x36" size, but get something different in the family and project. See image attached.
I want the red lines to be at the bottom of the family.
I tried to change the material image size to 36x36" and it only scales in the y direction. I also tried to offset the image so it fills the family area and that doesn't seem to work either.
When I edit a note on a material tag on a wall section it changes multiple tags. For instance I have a wall section with insulation in it and have placed detail components (2x4's) as top and tie plates. When I tag the insulation it shows a question mark, I edit the question mark to the desired insulation note no problems. However when I go to tag the top and tie plates they come in with the same note as the insulation. When I edit the note for the top plate it changes the insulation as well. How do I keep this from happening?
When adding an element, say a door, to something like a wall, if there is a void within the door and everything is set properly to cut out a section of the wall, what is the resultant material colour that you see at the cut?
I've been trying this out and in the Realistic display mode, when I have a door with a recess profile around the frame, in brick I see the brick colour, but in plaster I see a grey which isn't the same as the default plaster colour?
