View 2 RepliesWhen I go into the materials tab to duplicate and rename a material, Revit crashes. I enable to duplicate the material fine and if I do not want to rename it, everything goes okay. As soon as I rename the material and click okay, Revit quits working and needs to close.
I'm using Revit 2013 and I have all of the current updates installed.
I created a short 3 minute video of what exactly happens.

I want to duplicate & then rename a project I have stored on my vault computer, However I am experiencing many difficulties.
There are probably around 1000 + files in this project-multiple assemblies/drawings & parts. Initially i did a Pack & Go of the Project to my desktop. I then took my first top level drawings & using Design Assistant renamed all the reference parts and assemblies related too it. This worked fine, albeit a very long time to rename all the files.
The problem is that i have say 50 drawing files, some contain similar assemblies/part files which will have already been rename in the first top level drawing & some container different assemblies/parts (which are not related to the first top level drawing) & will have to be renamed separately.
Is there an easier way to duplicate & rename a vault project because design assistant makes this task extremely laborious. An great tool to add would be to 'Find & Replace' a file name & apply it too all the files. Similar to the function in Microsoft Word.
I have looked into the copy design feature in vault however, you can only copy a project within a project, you cannot copy it to a completely new folder in the vault.
The other problem is, is that you can only add a prefix or suffix to every file/related part/assembly, & i would rather replace the project number rather then add the new project number to the file names. This would be a viable option if you could rename multiple files quickly, however this just stems back to the design assistant.
I was curious if there was an option to set up what linked view would be set when creating and duplicating views. Its a little time staking when you have 6-7 linked files and need to make 20-30 elevations/sections. I was thinking there would be a way to setup the views so they're ready to go when you create them.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIf i choose a generic wall, and spilt it into layers, and let say the middle layer is going to be insulation, when i click on the material button nothing happens?, I can't load a material, it's a huge problem, and i have tried to repair revit, and uninstall in then reinstall, didn't work.
View 2 Replies View Relatedis there a way to specify a new construction material with a new material id number in the xml file so that when I construct a wall for example, I can pull that material into the wall layer? For example, I'd like to create a new insulation material that's currently not in the normal material library, but I don't know how to specify the material id number in the xml file...
View 1 Replies View RelatedHow can I calculate the total area of material similar to a project.
For example, ceramics, In my project I want to calculate the total area of ceramics, but I do not want a separate display
Instead, I have only one row show the total area of ceramics.
I am usually fine with changin the materials by going to visibility settings- imports and changing the materials.
However I have a file where I cannot change the material no matter what I do. I tried importing it as a family, I tried exploding the dwg, I tried setting the layers to 'color by layer'. It is beyond me
There is another file where I can only change some layers but not the others.
I am using Revit 2014 student version. I have an image in jpg and would like to add it to material library.
How do I do this?
I can't get Revit to display the cut material of a stair (landing or run) in 2013 using the new stairs... i have tried different settings in object styles, visibility/graphics, materials, details levels, phasing all without success.
Successfully show material cut pattern on a stair in section?
In the attached i have the new "Component" stair next to the old style "By Sketch" stair, the sketch stair shows the cut pattern the component one does not, this is the same section view not two sections.
I have duplicated many floors now in the Revit program and applied the same material to them and no matter what I end up with a duplicate area for that material in the floor material schedule takeoff.
Steps taken to correct this so far are:
1. Technical support @ Autodesk suggested that I uncheck the wrap part in the floor edit. The floor already has it unchecked and furthermore the wrap part is greyed out.
2. I have used parts and I guess that I can do this for it works. it is just that I would like to do floors because I don't have to spend time dividing them for a simple material takeoff.
I just want to be able to apply a material to a floor and have that floor shedule the area of that material only ONCE!
I am trying to use an Opacity Map in a Revit 2013 material. However, it seems to modify all materials of that category rather than the specific material (ie: Chrome, Polished) - same thing happens even if I duplicate and rename a material. I am trying to create a perforated metal screen panel for a curtain wall and an opcity map seemed the logical strategy
View 3 Replies View RelatedBeen doing a couple of renders of a section through a wall with an external rain-screen cladding. Is there any way to alter the appearance / alignment of the texture shown in the cut surface (not the main surface - I can define that OK via the material).
Ideally I would like a realistic view of a material - but something that looks more like a cut CMU rather than the usual surface.Failing that - is it possible to use a flat consistent colour through all cut surfaces (ie all white) ?
I know I could do that last one in Photoshop - but it will be a real painstaking process.
I have applied a material to a wall sweep, but whenever the sweep turns a corner the material flips upside down.Note that the frieze is supposed to be on top.

Now when I try to open up the material library I created it says "No assets in this library". I can't figure out why there is nothing there. And I don't want to have to recreate all my materials I already created! I can still find the file in my folders and it says theres 3930 KB of information in the file. I included a picture of what my Assest Editor and Asset Browser show when I try to open my library.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWe work with prototype buildings that can have material color variations from site to site. For example, a brick version of a prototype can have several different brick palettes from which to choose.
I'm thinking fo creating generically-named materials in the prototype set - Brick-Base and Brick-Accent, for example - with the idea that the specific material data for the function can be changed for each site-specific building.
While this certainly can be done manually, is there a way to import material data - and not just rendering appearance data but all of the data - into a model, either from another model or better yet, from some sort of data file? Ideally you would only import the materials for which you need to change the data.
I am creating a carpet tile family that is sized at 18"x36". When I load the image from the manufacture into the material I give it the 18"x36" size, but get something different in the family and project. See image attached.
I want the red lines to be at the bottom of the family.
I tried to change the material image size to 36x36" and it only scales in the y direction. I also tried to offset the image so it fills the family area and that doesn't seem to work either.
When I edit a note on a material tag on a wall section it changes multiple tags. For instance I have a wall section with insulation in it and have placed detail components (2x4's) as top and tie plates. When I tag the insulation it shows a question mark, I edit the question mark to the desired insulation note no problems. However when I go to tag the top and tie plates they come in with the same note as the insulation. When I edit the note for the top plate it changes the insulation as well. How do I keep this from happening?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen adding an element, say a door, to something like a wall, if there is a void within the door and everything is set properly to cut out a section of the wall, what is the resultant material colour that you see at the cut?
I've been trying this out and in the Realistic display mode, when I have a door with a recess profile around the frame, in brick I see the brick colour, but in plaster I see a grey which isn't the same as the default plaster colour?
The recess is 12mm into 12.5mm plaster.
We have tested the difference between wall material take off and material part take off of the same wall.the wall consist of 20mm render, 230mm brick and 30mm tile. Both give the same result. If we join a beam with the wall however, the wall material take off will give different result than the material part take off.The wall finishes in the material part schedule are correct, the ones in the wall matrial take off are off by 53%.
Please see attached file and "unjoin" the beam to the wall to see that both quantities are the same.Interestingly, the total volume of both schedules is almost identical, it is the subdivision that is completely off.
When setting up the material take off manually the material part take off is correct.I suspect I do something wrong. 53% off is not even usable when doing concept.
I created a material asset library for the company I work for with all of our materials in it. I was making adjustments earlier today to the library and now when I open it nothing shows up. It claims there is nothing in my file but yet the file size is 58,118 kb. How to get it back without having to completely redo the whole library!?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI built a basic facade system as a family in Revit 2012, but the materials won't stick. Every time I try to edit the family and assign a material, the material doesn't show up in the Revit file it's loaded into. Then, when I open the family back up to try editing it again, the material that I assigned to it five minutes ago is already reset to default, despite my saving and reloading it several times.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am putting an internal screen family together.
As the wall wraps do not work on the soffit (only on reveals), I have used a sweep to match the wall plaster thickness to provide a finish.
Is it possible to report the host wall finish material and have it assigned to this sweep automatically ? I have tried to add a finish layer to the host wall in the family - but have not been able to find a way of extracting the material value for this layer.
For the moment I have left it as an Instance property for manual correction - but automated would be great.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMaterial takeoff: As paint and other related calculations
I’m wondering why no values where calculated for the field “Material: as paint”! As for the “area” and “volume” calculation, they sound to be false, for example, the area of plaster board should be 0.02*1.84 but not 0.32*1.84! What might be false there?
I am having a very strange issue that appears in the Materials editor within Revit 2013 Update Release 3. If I change a surface or cut hatch pattern within the editor, and then attempt to close out of the editor, go to a different material, or apply the change, the hatch dialog pops right back up again, as if I never closed it. I have found two ways to get out of this obnoxious loop:
1. Use the 'esc' key to back out of the materials dialog (unfortunately no changes are saved).
2. Change the color of the hatch - this allows for the changes to be applied etc.
I've tried resetting the UI and reinstalling Revit to no avail.
