Revit :: How To Print To A PDF Format

Sep 3, 2013

I have a free program called PDF factory that lets me "print" to a PDF format to scale and works great. Except I tried to do it with a "shaded" building with sheet metal on as the walls, so evenly spaced vertical lines as the patter. The walls look perfect on the elevation views and the 3D view. but when I try to save the "print" to the PDF view the lines are not evenly spaced and there are not many of them. Is there a better way to export to a PDF? It says when I "print" to my PDF format that Revit will use Raster, could this be causing the problem? If so, how so I use vector?

Photoshop :: Print Image Format

Sep 13, 2013

I want to prepare my images in PS CS6 for print. I have read several articles that TIFF files print best since they do not lose any information but sometimes you can barely see the difference from a TIFF to a JPEG. However, I have also been told by a professional wedding photographer that you should always give your clients JPEGS since it is such a universal file format. I noticed on websites like CVS photo or Shutterfly they do not even accept TIFF files.

what file settings are best when printing JPEGS?I would normally save a file as the following:

- JPEG (quality 12/baseline optimized)
- 16-bit
- 300 dpi
- 3000x the longest side
- RGB color space

However, when I use the 'Image Processor' in PS to save all of my open files as JPEGs, it always saves them as 8-bit, sRGB color space. I have have a few concerns with this..

- Do JPEGs have to be 8-bit? If so, is this ok for printing? I have heard 16-bit is best.
- Shouldn't print files be RGB color space? NOT sRGB?
- Does the dpi matter?

Is there any easy way to change the auto settings when saving as a JPEG in the 'Image Processor'? Or maybe I could create an action for saving? Although, I have tried this and it never seems to work properly.

Illustrator :: CS6 - AI To PDF For Large Format Print

Mar 7, 2013

I am working with Illustrator CS6 and I have to prepare a file that will be printed as a 6 foot x 1.5 foot banner. Actually, it will be several banners; the same design but only the name of the organization will change. I have everything on different layers in the .ai file.

I've done the artwork as an .ai file, everything is a vector, there are no rasterized images in it at all.

The problem is, I'm not sure the best way to save the file to send to the printer. So, do I save the .ai file as a pdf, a pdf/x-1a, pdf/x-3 or pdf/x-4? Should I convert the text to outlines? There's a symbol in the artwork that includes text, does that text have to be converted to outlines as well?

Or should I just send them a file any which-a-way and see how the proof comes back?

AutoCAD Print / Plot :: New Large Format Printer

Aug 3, 2012

My company will be getting a new large format printer to replace the current one we have. We don't have room enough to have both running at the same time so I'm imagining one-day down then viola, we have a new printer.

How I can prepare for this as far as creating the necessary Plot Styles, pc3, pmp...files? Because i have many items on my to-do list, this could take a day or two with all the testing and i can't image the uproar from our CADers about going without a plotter for two or three days.

AutoCAD Print / Plot :: Large Format - Landscape

May 23, 2012

This is an issue that has gone on in v2012 and still in v2013,

A client of mine has been dealing with a painful workaround when plotting custom sized maps in landscape. If the layout shows the map in landscape as it should, it will not plot. You would have to rotate the drawing 90 degrees for it to plot. The maps cover many sqaure miles, so looking at getting the plot area correct, making various changes and such in the layout, while at 90 degrees, is pretty infuriating. I'm in no way a novice in the Adsk world, so having tried a load of options and such, I'm at an impasse. Below are a few things that have been checked off the troubleshooting list.

Not just maps, but even a simple rectangle does not work;Updating plotter drivers;Deleting layout and/or viewport, then recreating one;Using all combinations of portrait/landscape settings in the plot dialog AND in the printer properties;Dropping the plot quality..Changing the compatibility setting of the program to an earlier version of windows;Using a driver from a different plotter;Change margins on custom paper sizes;Audit the file;Used templates from different versions

AutoCAD Print / Plot :: Setting Up Printer Format

Oct 2, 2012

I have to set up my drawing on the model page so that I can save it as a PDF and then transfer it into adobe illustrator. My scale is 1:1, and when I put it on the model page I'm doing a 1/8" : 1' scale. It should fit on the page no problem, its only a 9" model plan on 1/4 scale, so it should be 4.5" on the page. However, it's too big for the page.

Revit :: Can't Export FBX Format

Oct 15, 2012

I am currently using Revit Architecture 2012 and am trying to export a project file in a .fbx format to start using Autodesk Showcase which I just downloaded a free trial for. For whatever reason, Revit won't let me export any file in a .fbx format. Instead of being able to click on that as an option, it's greyed out. Is there an update I need to download or an fbx plug-in I need to get to utilize the fbx exporting function??

PS: I've put myself in the 3D view which I know can be an issue of why the fbx export function is greyed out.

Revit :: Format Of Surface Element

Feb 6, 2013

I am exporting gbXML file from Revit Architecture 2013. And I am looking at the format of the name of the surface element. According to the Autodesk wikihelp, I understand that it is composed in a form as : orientation-space-(other space)-exposure-type-sequence number-(opening type)

It means if the surface is an interior wall surface, there will be two adjacent space names recored here. such as N-101-102-E-W-D-84

But I notice that in my gbXML file, I have some terms like :  B-2-2-I-F-10, B-2-2-I-F-16, X-1-1-I-O-6, and  X-1-1-I-O-15,  I notice that when the orientation is "Bottom" or it is a type of "air", the space names will repeated twice.

AutoCAD Print / Plot :: In 2012 While Plotting PDF Not Creating In Landscape Format

Jan 1, 2014

On PC_71, While ploting(creating the pdf via autocad) the pdf,its everytime coming in portait format but we want in landscape format.

On PC_71, if we create the pdf of any document by our Adobe pdf printer PRT13 then its creating pdf properly for both portait and landscape format . But for any autocad drawing file , the pdf printer PRT13 is not creating in landscape format.

I also cross-checked all plot setting with other proper working PC , its same then also its behave differently.

And if we create pdf on any other PC then its creating the pdf properly for any drawing but not on PC_71.

Also 1 more typical point I noticed that if we delete any pdf file from PC_71, then after refreshing its again appeared on same location.

Note - We are using:

Software :  Autocad 2012-64Bit , Naviswork 2013 , Inventor Ultimate 2014-64 Bit , Bentley Autoplant V8i - SS4 version : 8.11.9.140 ,MS-Office 2010 - 64 Bit.

Hardware : Workstation Dell Precision T3600

Revit :: Raster Print Quality

Dec 5, 2012

I'm having issues with print quality on certain drawings, which is a shame as print quality generally exceeds that of AutoCAD Architecture.

The issue I have is with a SHADED and shadowed elevation drawing.  When I go to print to PDF it insists line removal is done using raster rather than vector processing.  This leads to a poor quality PDF both on screen and printed.

I accept that automatically generated shadows may make this necessary but with then turned off, I don't.

If I print a coloured plan, say a room or area drawing with automatically generated colours, it's quite happy to plot it using vector processing.  I DO NOT see any difference between this and a shaded elevation without shadows! Any way of improving the look of raster processed output?

Revit :: Send All Sheets As One Print Job?

Sep 12, 2011

We have several users utilizing the same printer.  To prevent sheets from different jobs from mixing, and a large quantity of pages sitting in the printer, each print job is queued in the printer until the sender requests that it be printed at the printer.  With Revit, the problem is that each sheet is sent as a separate print job, meaning that a 300 sheet print jobe requires me to stand at the printer and request that each one be printed (300 requests).  In AutoCAD, the PUBLISHCOLLATE variable sends all sheets in a publish operation as a single job.  Is there a way to do this in Revit 2011?

My workflow requires me to open the pdf in illustrator and make adjustments before a final print.  I need the boundary printed so that I can scale the drawing inside illustrator back up to proper size.

Maybe I need to make a custom titleblock with a larger boundary?
