Revit :: Non Print Line Styles?
Feb 19, 2014I know that some objects can be turned off from printing but is it possible to create a line style that will not print?

View 4 RepliesWhy revit has two hidden line styles. The first being the system line style "<hidden>" and the other "hidden". You would think you would be able to delete or modify "hidden" to reduce the number of line style a user can select from but you can't.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have two detail items (split-face cmu & cmu sections.) within each family it says the line is "Heavy Line." and the lineweight is set to 5 for both. yet on the computer screen and when it prints out one of the detail items is thinner than the other? how to correct?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhy am I not able to select Line Styles in the family editor? This is the case for both creating new families and editing existing ones. See attached image for clarification
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have two layers. One is set to red color, the other to blue color (using ctb). I have both layers defaulted to 1 mm line weight thickness. Blue is continuous and Red is dashed.
When printing the blue layer prints at the correct weight of 1mm, while the dashed red layer prints at a much smaller thickness. All line properties are set to default or bylayer (this is not being caused by the lines having individual special properties).
I am trying to get everyone in my office to direct thier Printer Support File Path to a specific folder on our network.
I have a configuration folder, a printer description folder and a plot style table folder set up on the network. I have brought in the needed plot styles, PC3 files so on and put them in the proper folders.
This works great on my machine for publishing and printing from sheet sets and so on. But as soon as I try to direct someone else's computer to the same folder they begin to get printing errors.
Mostly, the device does not support the requested media size. Also what is the best method for setting up a Printer Support folder on a network?
I am using Autodesk Map Enterprise 2012 and picking up Autodesk Map. I need to create multiple line styles for use in maps representing Clean Water and Waste Water pipe lines.
The symbols for WW make extensive use of flow arrows and shapes with different start and line end styles.
Pls refer to the attached image.
For example, --^---^---^----^---^-------> , ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++O etc. --->--- .. -------->----- .. ------->-----
Most of these shapes are offset from the alignment.
a) Is shx file the only way to create shape features that can be specified in linetype definition or can i ise blocks? If yes, are there any specific commands/utilities for it?
b) How do i specify the beginning and the end style or a line (which should not get repeated) ? It is usually a vector circle which is 1.5 M in dia or a Flag like graphic.
Using LINETYPE command i made use of acad.lin file and created a few line styles, but not sure hot to specify the start and the end style.
c) Is there any specific mapping tools available for Map 3D?
Is it possible to edit feature lines join and end styles? I have some compound lines that I would like to look like piping but the option for styling them is greyed out. Just wondering if there is a way to enable these. I have tried adjusted the plot styles but to no effect.
Again this is for feature lines not normal autocad entity lines.
Does anyone know if you can print out a copy of your loaded styles, brushes and or custom shapes?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI currently have with my plotting. I've recently switched from using a color table plot style to named/layer plot style.
Drawing "TANK.dwg" contains 2d geometry inside a block named "2d-tank" and is on layer '0' in the block, and that block is on layer '0' inside "TANK.dwg"
TANK.dwg is xref'd into "PHASE 1.dwg" several times in several locations. "TANK.dwg" is on layer '0' in "PHASE 1.dwg"
"PHASE 1.dwg" is xref'd into "COMPOSITE.dwg" on layer 'P1'
In "COMPOSITE.dwg" I can change the layer color of layer "P1" and the block "2d-tank" changes color to suit. It derives it's display color based upon layer P1, as everything has been on layer '0' up until now. However, despite picking up the appropriate color, it does not inherit the appropriate plot style. I try to apply a screened/shaded plot style to it and it instead inherits the plot style of layer '0' in "COMPOSITE.dwg"
This is a problem for me as I have 3 phases, and I need to be able to plot them differently, depending on each phase shown. I'd rather see if there is a way to make my current model setup work before I go duplicating thing and restructuring all my drawings to suit a layer style inconsistently, but I need this to print right.
I don't understand why an object would inherit the color of the layer it's on, but not another layer property, specifically its plot style.
We have cooridors with features such as terrace drains and flowlines, but we cant seem to get the linetypes to show up correctly. For example a flow line should have arrows but it shows up without the linetype and looks continuous.

I had a user ask why some dimension styles cannot be purged even if all the dimensions are deleted from the project.
Most probably the dimension style is used in a family that is loaded in the project.
When you select all dimension instances in the entire project, it will not select those included in the families. But the purge function will 'see' that it is still used in a family and therefore it will not be listed in the purge dialog.
So you will have to find in which family the dimension style is used.
I don't think there is an easy way to do it. I would make a copy of the project and then delete a bunch of families until the dimension style can be purged, then refine the research until to find the family that contains the dimension style.
I have added a 4 Panel Sliding Door from the standard Revit family. I would now like to only change the colour of the frame in lets say my north elevation. My understand is that this would be done by overriding the frame material via Manage>Object Styles>Doors>Frame/Mullion, then applying a new material.
I have made sure that my shade colour is set to the correct RGB value, and in my north elevation I have my Visual Style set to shaded.
Why am I not seeing the new shaded colour?
Is it possible to move a wall to a different object style?
Im currently setting out a toilet suite and would like to place the cubicle partitions in a more appropriate object style.
In CDraw X5 I can choose line styles. But I would like to add some more styles (and to remove some that I never use).I only found a possibility to create new styles based on a kind of a pixel approach: A one-by-many array of single squares can be marked to be coloured of white, producing dashed lines with any kind of dash length. Also, the dash "frequency" seems to be dictated by the line width only; I do not manage to make thin dashed lines with a reasonably visible dash frequency.
However, I would like to make line consisting of other shapes, like circles, triangles, diamonds, etc., either filled or "open". Or make thin dashed lines with user-specifiec dash and space lengths that do not change when changing the line width. Is this possible?
Also, multi-colour dashes – with e.g. odd-numbered dashes in one colour and even-numbered ones in another color – might be useful.
In the current version, however, the number of dash schemes available is big enough to be confusing. Especially when the line is made relatively wide – say, 0,5 .. 1 mm or so – and I want to make more lines with the same shape, than it is difficult to find again the same shape the list of standard shapes. Is it possible to add names (or numbers, but not just running numbers!) to the shapes, so that a shape can be found again easily?
I have a line label style that consists of two blocks (crowsfeet). The blocks are taking on the properties of the current layer when xrefed. I have enclosed a couple of drawings to show this behavior.
Open the "crowsfeet sheet" drawing. You will notice the crowsfeet are green.
Change the current layer and regen. The crowsfeet will change to the color of the current layer.
To take this one step further:
Freeze the current layer in the current viewport. The crowsfeet disappear.
Change the current layer. The crowsfeet reappear with the color of the current layer.
The objects in the blocks are on layer 0 with a color of bylayer. Changing the color to byblock produced the same results.
The only workaround I found was to change the color of the objects in the block to something other than bylayer or byblock.

I've tried some of the settings for the mleader text placement. I'm trying to get the text to sit on top of a horizontal line. And an angled leader from the horizontal line to the object I am describing, ending in a dot.
All this is working fine, the lines, dot, etc. It's set for straight, not spline. And max. 2 leader points. All works as I want here.
What isn't working well is the text placement. I am able to have the text be horizontal, this works. But I can't get it to have the text above the horizontal line. I can set the leader connection to underline top line, or underline bottom line, or underline all text. These 3 choices seem sort of retarded. The first two put the text right on the line with no space. Doesn't look good. The third choice puts the text a bit above the line, looks perfect, except that there is now an additional line below the horizontal leader line, and that looks dumb.
Am I missing something? Has this feature matured more in later versions?
I have to create complex styles for line features. This features like different road types and stream type. When ı create my own style like on capture, ı want to import feature styles to other projects.
In arcgis ı can get largely spread style library for polygon, line or point. And ı can modify and re save this feature style. But in Autocad map 3d it s very difficult.
Why are figure line styles and feature line styles not shared, or a parent / child relationship? Also, should match properties change the style of a feature line to appear to be the same style as the figure line? The style only exists in as a figure line style.
If we offset a Figure line (feature line stepped offset) we get feature line, then we match properties to a figure line that has the correct style. The prospector says the Feature line has the style of the figure line; however, if we edit the feature line properties the style is set to none.
I have created Road 1 and assigned Feature Line Styles in the Feature Lines tab of the Corridor Properties and it looks as I expected.
When I go to Road 2, 3 etc I have to manually assign the Feature Line Styles again, so the question is can these feature line styles be assigned via a code set or something.

I am trying to control the visibility or visual style of the model but through the linked arch file. Everything is wireframe or simple black and white lines and I can see all my devices and equipment for the entire length of the building when I only want to see the devices in the room or where the camera is. It seems when I switch to hidden only my devices change no the linked arch model nor do any of my devices on the other side of the wall go away. I am sure for some the answer is simple but it is escaping me entirely. where I can better control the visual styles in my views of not just my own stuff but the other disciplines as well. Do I have to do anything to the linked files? Going through the Visibility Graphics Links tab doesnt seem to work either.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've seen umpteen explanations of how to change lineweights in Revit.None of them address this simple thing I'm trying to do.
I just want to:
1. Create a few lilnestyles that appear along side the other line styles - for instance:
Thin Line, Medium Line, Thick Line, <<Really Thick Line, >> <<Absurdly Thick Line,>> etc, etc..
2. Draw a line
3. Click on the line
4. Select from a drop down list, "Absurdly Thick Line" and have it instantly inherit the linestyle I created.
The only way I can do this is to create a family, make a new subcategory of Detail Items, create the characteristics I want in the line, export it as a .dwg file, then import it into Revit - and then I see the new line style along side the other line styles, and I can then select any line and make it the new line style.
Certainly, there is an easy to find, simple, straightforward way to add line styles to the existing group - and have those new line styles become immediately accessible from the "Modify Lines" Linestyle Drop down Menu.
I need to have symbolized linestyles on a number of 3D polylines in mapping data.We normally would simply explode the 3D poly's, and our linestyles display fine.
The linestyles also display fine if we change the 3D polylines to polylines.HOWEVER, with the current dataset we have very high point density on our 3D polylines, and we need to preserve the elevation attributes of the lines.
If we explode the lines we end up with so many tiny segments that they will not display the linestyles - changing the linetype scale eventually will show the style, but at far too small a size to be relevant.
We also, in most of the layers, are not able to change the 3D polylines to polylines - we must preserve the 3D attributes of the lines. So the problem is that we can't explode the 3D polylines, and we can't flatten them either, but we want the linestyles to display. We are using Map3D primarily, but can access C3D if a solution is available there.
The precise scenario is for instance a line which is a top of embankment, but which has points at around 30cm intervals, over a line length of 206m. This particular dataset has several hundred lines like this, and the linestyle we are trying to display is a simple set of repeating ticks off one side of the line.
We are experimenting with weeding the points, but the shape of the lines is being considerably downgraded by this process.at this point we are most likely going to have to present this data without linestyles for these features - not our first choice.
So the firm I work at has AutoCAD 2000 and 2007. 2000 is installed on 5 out of the 7 computers, and 2007 installed on 6 of the 7 computers. 2 of the computers running just ACAD 2007 are Windows Vista, while all the other computers are Windows XP. We have an OCE TDS320 CAD Printer, an HP Wide Format Printer and a Panasonic 330 Copier/Fax/Printer. Our Problem is that When you try to plot an ACAD2007 drawing it will only plot it in color. This problem did not exist before 1/12/12.
When I select the Plot Style to print I select "monochrome.stb" which has always worked, now all of a sudden it doesnt. The only way i have found to fix this problem is to change my drawing to layer "0" which is white, so when it tries to print in color it will print black. Another Guy in the firm i work at has ACAD2007 on his computer running XP, he also has 2000 running on the same computer. When he tries to plot on ACAD2007 the same thing happens, so it is not isolated to my computer.
There is a difference though between his Plot Styles on his computer and the ones on mine. His end with .ctb, which works. It only doesnt work when he tries to print a drawing i made off of my computer. Because of this we copied his Plot Style folder for AutoCAD 2007 and installed it into the folder with all of my plot styles on my computer, replacing the ".stb" with ".ctb" That did not work at all. The last thing we tried was to copy over a file that plotted correctly, delete the drawing and draw what we needed, This also did not work. So basically we are thinking that ACAD2007 is not reading the Plot Styles correctly, or the Plot Styles are wrong or currupt.
Is there a way to apply plot styles and line weights to a dwg file like 'dwf ePlot' does but keeping the results in .dwg format?
View 4 Replies View RelatedWe have some old drawings that use to have name dependent plot styles. We just need to plot them for reference and tried to convert them to the Monochrome ctb. But when you change it to Color dependent in the options nothing happens and if you type in pstylepolicy it tells me it is read only. When you plot it only gives you the option of the stb plot styles and will not change to ctb. The old stb styles are long gone and it wanted to print in color (lots of yellow back then).
View 1 Replies View RelatedHow do you apply certain contour label styles to certain surface styles (i.e. When I have an existing surface i want the default contour labels to be an "existing contour" style). Right now the default is a "finished contour" label style for all surfaces.
View 4 Replies View RelatedHow do update the styles library to keep from getting the Styles Conflict error box. I have used the Standard.dwg file that loaded with Inventor 2012 but everytime I change styles and save the changes in a new template in reverts back to the library definitions.
I used to be able to select 'NO' in the LIbrary option of the Projects Folder but that optiion no longer exists.
We've created a new parts list style for a border. When the border tempalt file is on the c: drive...everything works hunky dory...parts list, revision tables, etc.But as soon as we copy and paste that border into the template library folder for new drgs...the parts list style is missing from the local styles?
So to make it appear on the new document...the style manager has to be set at all styles and the new parts list style has to be saved to the document? What aren't we doing to make it appear on the template?
Also note that because the drawing border template is in a template folder as part of the design projects...it is NOT editable...so it has to be edited outside the template folder.
