Revit :: Override Object Styles On A View?

Mar 6, 2014

I have added a 4 Panel Sliding Door from the standard Revit family. I would now like to only change the colour of the frame in lets say my north elevation. My understand is that this would be done by overriding the frame material via Manage>Object Styles>Doors>Frame/Mullion, then applying a new material.

I have made sure that my shade colour is set to the correct RGB value, and in my north elevation I have my Visual Style set to shaded.

Why am I not seeing the new shaded colour?

Revit :: Moving Objects Between Design Options

Aug 10, 2012

I am using Revit Architecture 2013 and I have a few different design options for the mian level of a house I am working on.  I have the North wall of the house in a design option for the living room at the moment.  But I have decided I no longer want that wall in the my living room option, I would like to move it to my kitchen design option so I am able to move a window that is located on that wall.  I cannot seem to find a way to move a wall from one design option to another or have it in both if it is already part of a design option. How I can get this wall and the windows located on it into my kitchen design layout without having things being double counted in the schedules?

CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X6 :: Object Styles - None For A Single Object Attribute?

Dec 9, 2012

Is there a way to exclude single attributes from being defined in a object style? As example: i want to define an outline that does not change width of the objects, but everything else.

There is a small tick box right of every attribute with help text "None   this object attribute is not defined by a custom style" but i can not mark it. My feeling is, that i need to switch on this tick box to get the result i need, but i can not. When i click on it, it just gives me a greyed out "Revert". When i try to make child styles, there is a way to break the connection to parent style with these tick boxes, but no luck.

Is it a bug? I tried it with X6, X6.1 and X6.2

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Moving / Copying Cross Section Styles

Feb 28, 2012

my issue is I have created a style for cross sections that work well in one drawing, and need to copy them to our template. I have been able to copy the styles for the section view, section plot, and some section labels that I needed. However, I cannot find out how to copy over the style that labels my corridor section in the cross section view. When I go to look at what type of object style it is, all I get is a "Obect Style" dialog box. I have been trying to open every setting to find it and have had no luck. I have attached three screen shots. The first is what I want the cross-section to look like, the second is what it currently looks like in the template, and the third is the dialog box I am getting.

AutoCAD Print / Plot :: Styles Not Applying To Xref'd Objects

May 13, 2013

I currently have with my plotting.  I've recently switched from using a color table plot style to named/layer plot style.

Drawing "TANK.dwg" contains 2d geometry inside a block named "2d-tank" and is on layer '0' in the block, and that block is on layer '0' inside "TANK.dwg"

TANK.dwg is xref'd into "PHASE 1.dwg" several times in several locations.  "TANK.dwg" is on layer '0' in "PHASE 1.dwg"

"PHASE 1.dwg" is xref'd into "COMPOSITE.dwg" on layer 'P1'

In "COMPOSITE.dwg" I can change the layer color of layer "P1" and the block "2d-tank" changes color to suit.  It derives it's display color based upon layer P1, as everything has been on layer '0' up until now.  However, despite picking up the appropriate color, it does not inherit the appropriate plot style.  I try to apply a screened/shaded plot style to it and it instead inherits the plot style of layer '0' in "COMPOSITE.dwg"

This is a problem for me as I have 3 phases, and I need to be able to plot them differently, depending on each phase shown.  I'd rather see if there is a way to make my current model setup work before I go duplicating thing and restructuring all my drawings to suit a layer style inconsistently, but I need this to print right.

I don't understand why an object would inherit the color of the layer it's on, but not another layer property, specifically its plot style.

AutoCAD LT :: Cannot See Objects While Moving

Aug 30, 2013

I recently started a trial for a program called PDF2CAD, the test file I converted worked fine. Everything is selectable and editable. When I move something it does show up while moving/copying. However, when I make additions to the drawing, text for example, and try to move/copy it it does not show up while moving.

PDF2CAD converted the PDF to a DXF format, which I then saved as a DWG.

3ds Max :: Moving Objects From One Center?

Apr 14, 2011

I just started on the roof of the round house I'm working on. I use spacing tool to copy shingles around but now I'm thinking is there an easier way. This takes time. Can you think of any? I was always missing one "tool" in MAX and I think there probably is one. You know when you select many objects and use scale to scale them all (using one center, not each owns), and the objects move as if they are pieces of explosion or implosion (towards or away a centre). But also, they change size of course. Is there a tool or a way to just MOVE the objects this way? Away or towards each other but not scale them?

AutoCad :: Objects Keep Moving

Jun 13, 2012

I used to set precision to 3 decimal places which is in millimeters in my case. That is enough for the building industry. Recently, I found out a co worker worked on my drawing while I was on vacation. Something seem out of place, so I set the precision to 8 decimal places and noticed everything is off by a bit. In general, 0.00000002 isn't going to affect the project, but it just bugs me a lot. I spent hours lining everything up perfectly, just to find out most objects shifted again by a tiny bit after 2 days.I tested out a few lines by fixing them in the block editor and saving it. But everything I reedit them, they shifted again.I asked the co-worker if he remember what he did, but couldn't come up with a solution.

Revit :: Cannot Purge Unused Dimension Styles

Jul 14, 2011

I had a user ask why some dimension styles cannot be purged even if all the dimensions are deleted from the project.

Most probably the dimension style is used in a family that is loaded in the project.

When you select all dimension instances in the entire project, it will not select those included in the families. But the purge function will 'see' that it is still used in a family and therefore it will not be listed in the purge dialog.

So you will have to find in which family the dimension style is used.

I don't think there is an easy way to do it. I would make a copy of the project and then delete a bunch of families until the dimension style can be purged, then refine the research until to find the family that contains the dimension style.

Illustrator :: Possible To Apply Path Styles To Live Paint Objects Or Clipping Paths?

Jul 13, 2012

I want to create an illustration with black outlines. Within these outlines I want to have some spots without outlines that stay clean within the lines. I have tried 3 options so far and have found a solution but it's far from ideal.

1. Create clipping masks for each element that has a spot on it and assign a stroke to the clipping path again after. However by creating the clipping path, the path styles dissapear. In this case I want to keep the pointed ends to the open path outlines (see top image).

2. Draw in the lines where the spots are and create a live paint object of the entire illustration. Then paint in the spots and other areas. However when I create this live paint object the lines again lose their applied styles and even 'end' at each intersection, creating nasty edges where the lines should go 'underneath' smoothly (see bottom image).

3. The option Im using now. Duplicate the path outlines and create clipping masks for the spots without strokes. Then put the stroked outline with the desired styles on top. The problem with this is that I have almost twice as much elements in my illustration now than I actually 'need'. And the styled outlines are not connected with the color underneath, so its very easy to accidentally move something around...

Any easier way to create this effect without all the hassle?

AutoCad 2D :: Moving Objects From One Layer To Another?

Apr 26, 2013

I am using Autocad 11. I am working on some 12 year old drawings for a railroad museum. They are a mess. They look like they were done be an old pencil guy. Lots of views all over the drawing space rather than using layers to his advantage.

I am watching all the tutorials that i can find. There are Blocks on wrong layers.

I want to move a group of lines (part of the stuff on one layer) onto a new layer that i have created. Is it as simple as cut and paste? How do I prevent them moving during the process?

I tried making their layer current, then selecting the items, then cutting the items. Then i made the new layer that I wanted them on Current, then pasted them. I has to very carefully line them back up, and they are still on the original layer.

Revit :: Controlling Visual Styles Through Linked Files?

Everything is wireframe or simple black and white lines and I can see all my devices and equipment for the entire length of the building when I only want to see the devices in the room or where the camera is.  It seems when I switch to hidden only my devices change no the linked arch model nor do any of my devices on the other side of the wall go away.  I am sure for some the answer is simple but it is escaping me entirely.  where I can better control the visual styles in my views of not just my own stuff but the other disciplines as well.  Do I have to do anything to the linked files?  Going through the Visibility Graphics Links tab doesnt seem to work either.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Programmatically Edit Multiple Object Styles?

Jan 29, 2013

we use Civil 3D as a design tool, and sometimes in the finished (plotted) product.  We use STB (named) plot styles and layer settings to control object display.

I have a situation where I have received a drawing that is populated with Civil 3D styles already.  However, in the Display tab, all the object Plot Styles are set to ByBlock.  That does not seem to work properly with .STB plot style management, because the individual objects (contours, points, etc.) pick up the plot styles of their parent objects.  So instead of a contour on layer V-TOPO-MAJR plotting with the layer settings of V-TOPO-MAJR, it follows the layer settings of C-TOPO, which is the layer containing the parent surface.

Is there a way to programmatically step through styles for surfaces, profile views, etc. and change the "ByBlock" setting to "ByLayer" in all styles?
