Revit :: Loading Family Opens New Identical Sheet View?
Jan 16, 2012Why does Revit open an identical sheet view when loading a family? I end up with the same view open twice.

View 2 RepliesI've been downloading some families from seek. Each time I download, I open the family and then load it into the current project. Well, during the load into current project, the view switches from Level 1 New (the active view before the family load) to Level 1 Existing, the first view in the project. Is this intentional or a bug?

I am looking for a way to boost the performance in Revit 2014 while loading or updating complex family’s. The problem at the moment seems to be that Revit 2014 only uses 1 cpu while loading family’s even if you have a high end multicore workstation at hand. So with hardware there is not much you can do.
A possible solution should be in virtualization, i.e. running Revit 2014 in a virtual machine with a single vCpu assigned on a vmware Esxi or Microsoft Hyper-v multi core host. I have tested this solution but ran into the problem that neither Esxi or Hyper-v distribute the load of the single Vcpu in the virtual machine over de multicore’s of the host. 1 Vcpu uses just one core of the host so no cpu performance advantage at all. The best practice of adding Vcpu’s to the virtual machine just lowers the performance of Revit in this case.

I have a Revit project with two different types of title blocks - one for Planning Board Submissions and one for Construction Documents. Is there a way of changing the title block family for a sheet from one family to another? I cannot seem to be able to do this without deleting the sheet and re-creating it with the new title block family.
I cannot just edit the family and reload it because, like I said, I need to maintain certain information on some sheets and different information on others.
Is it possible to add a color region to a family in plan view? I need to add a color region to the plan view of a single flush door family for training purposes (several co-workers see color filled areas better than black and white single lines with the projector we have). I would like to add a color region to the door and frame in plan view of the door family.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to create a custom view title family for the office (see attached). We'd like to have a label for Drawing Type (ie. "Building Plan" in the attached image) in the view title which would appear in the properties tab under identity data, next to the standard Title on Sheet, View Name, etc.
In the project, I am able to create a project parameter which appears as desired in the properties tab, but am unable to add the parameter inside the family when creating it. It seems impossible to add this parameter to the standard view title family template (alongside Detail Number, Sheet Number, etc.).
I tried it using a Generic Annotation family, but in the project, Revit does not recognize that family as a view category family and therefore you cannot choose this family when setting your view type.
by default. I forget what but there's some routine to make this family cut properly in a plan view. Why they made viewing the top of the family the default position I DON"T KNOW but what do you expect from programmers?

I'm trying to align a nested family to a reference line in my host family so that it rotates around a certain point.
I've created the reference line in my host family, locked the end point to two reference planes and then gave an angular parameter to the angle between the ref. line and the ref. plane.
I then inserted the nested family and aligned it to the ref. line. The problem is that when I flex the angle, i get a "Constraints not satisfied" error..
What could be wrong?
I'm using a generic face based family for both host and nested families...

Does it possible to have two different view Titles in the same sheet? I have different room elevations which I need to show the drawing number, the view name and in place of the scale will be the room number; the overall views will have a view title with sheet reference.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI´m designing a sheet, but I've been running into some issues. First of all, I have some symbols on my view to describe some elements. I've been trying to add them to the sheet in a description table but I can´t copy them...is this possible or I would have to draw them again. Here is where I ran into another issue, cause those symbols are made with some styles of line that are not uploaded on my sheet, I went to Manage -> Additional Settings -> Line Styles and defined the new lines, but when I draw'em I can´t choose the new style, only the ones previously uploaded..

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have seen several posts about rotating a view on a sheet and the text not remaining readable.
I have seen the posts that say to rotate the view then add text... What if you didn't plan that far ahead - are you just stuck?
Is there any new developments on this?
I have a client who needs to be able to this without having to rotate all the text in the project.
In Revit 2012, I have a plan view (overall, first floor) which is "Independent" but also shows another view as the "Referencing Sheet." When I visit the sheets referenced, I can't identify a reference. The problem is that the "Referencing Sheet" is showing in our title block and we'd prefer to show a blank for Independent views.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIve created a dwf with multiple sheets (an electrical set, in this example). I sent it to a client who marked it up in Autodesk Design Review and sent it back to me. I inserted it (insert/dwf markup) and it comes into the revit14 drawing file just fine but all the comments are on the SHEET and not in the view. This is very inconvenined becuase I must open the view, make the change, exit the view, edit the dwf comment and repeat over and over. How does one get/force the person doing the markup to work within the VIEW?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn our company we currently model using coloured lines rather than the Revit desired black/white but we are more and more being asked to print the odd view on a sheet with coloured lines or a coloured 3d view.
As some of us have grown up on th edrawing board through to Revit we are so used to the coloured lines and feel that it gives the drawing depth and is so much easier to understand.
I have been trying every way to keep the coloured linies but using view templates. filters and phasing to enable me to change views quickly from coloured to black and then back but there is no easy quick transition especially as we can't use these to change standard linetypes.
Why Autodesk have made this such a difficult issue within revit... Now we can model in 3D, create schedules automatic yet Autocad is much better for plotting...
When I rotate a view on a sheet, the fill pattern of a filled region doesn't rotate with it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm fairly new to Autocad and getting used to using sheet set manager. What I'm experiencing is, when you insert a model view it brings in an xref of that model, but i'm then unsure how to add additional xref models into the same view.
For example I have a separate ground floor plan file and OS data file which I want to show in the one sheet view without nesting the OS data to the original ground floor file.
Using Modify Sheet List Tab - Rows Panel - New. It will not add a new row to my Sheet List.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to get sheet number of the base view for the Selected Child view (Mainly for Section. Detail Views). Because the Section views, Detail views (initially they would have created on the same sheet where the parent is, then they moved to different sheets). So we place the parent view sheet number.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have never gotten this to work, but had put little effort into it until recently. Thus far I have checked my project standards to make sure "match sheet views to view" is checked to "yes".
In both View drawing and the sheet- VISRETAIN is set to 1.

I am working on drawings that are in my current project through project navigator. I am using ACA 2010 and not sure what else I need to do. I turn off all the unwanted layers in the view drawing, then create a sheet and xref in the view to model space- all the layers reset, and I again have to turn off all the unwanted layers. If I change a layer color in the view drawing, it does not change in the sheet drawing upon save and refresh.
I hate wasting time repeating the same task over and over....
How can I get dimensions and stair well in view to show in sheet view? Basement & 1st fl are ok but 2nd floor is not.
See attached screen shot.
In the AutoCAD layout, the View port cannot always be linked to the drawing view. How will the viewport is linked to the drawing view.
