Revit :: Can Change Shared Parameter Names In Txt File
Feb 28, 2012
Starting brand new project. Would like to change the name of some shared parameters within my txt file. As far as I know you cant chnage the name once its established witin Revit (unless theres a third party app). Would there be any issue withi this? Utimately I am pushing these parameters into new geometry and I would like them to better conform to a standard for a particular customer. I rennamed JUST the parameter name and it seemed to work ok.Â

I have been making and sharing shared parameter files for years... For some reason today a co-worker's shared parameter file is invalid or could not be read...
Â
We have run a couple of tests - I can create one on my computer and send to her without any issues... Any that she creates and sends to me - is invalid... WHY?

The Developers Guide explains how to create e.g. shared String parameter and import them into the project.
I actually want to create a parameter which has a fixed set of possible values, which is normally referred to as enumeration type in programming languages. The user shall be able to choose one literal from a combo box in the Properties view.
Â
PS I don't have the requirement that it is a shared parameter, it can also be "only" a project parameter, but i didn't found out how to create these.

I am having some issues getting a shared Volume parameter to work and report in a tag correctly. Â I can get the tag to report a value, but it is reporting the a value based on default values of the column (9*2*2) and not the value of the actual column (shown in the properites). Â Also, the tag I create reports a question mark, not the volume calculated. Â I've tried this a million times so it could be I have crossed up a parameter somewhere. Â

We have centralized our content for our Revit users. We then customize the ini file to insure the paths look to the network locations.Â
Â
One of my users has said that the proper and only recommended way to update the shared parameters file is while you are in Revit (I.E. have the path to the shared parameters file look to the network location instead of locally) so it updates on the fly. I didnt want to do that as I do not want to alter the "master" copy of the content we have on the network. I'd prefer that the user updates it locally, then we can just copy the file and overwrite the older file on the network.
Â
I find nothing that says it is, but I prefer to explore all options and avenues first.

Looking at a standard door type, the Internal Concept Single Door, I've noticed that it has some parameters set as a Shared Parameter?
Â
Where is the shared parameters file for this?
Â
I'm setting up an office template for use of these, and losing the default functionality is not wanted, if necessary I'll integrate the defaults into my own shared parameters file.

We are working in our office on a central model. the model is stored on a local server within the office premises. We are three people working on it. our problem is this when we open the central file on any of our computer "create New local" check box is inactive. but when one of us login as "Administrator" and then open central file in any of the remaining two computer the " Create New Local" is active.why this is happening and is there any way we can work with the file without loging in as Administrator.

I accidentally included a file rename when I just imported a batch of several hundred pictures. I violated a rule that I teach my own Lightroom students, and that is to look carefully at the import panel choices before proceeding.
Â
How can I correct this so that the files are named as they originally were? I know how to easily fix the filenames in Windows (using a tool called BulkRename, for example), but then I'd have to "find" each image one-by-one and correctly point to the renamed version. I tried selecting all the images and then using F2 to rename, but none of the templates allow deleting a portion of the filename.
Â
P.S. Here is an example of what I mean:
Â
ON CARD:
IMG_0001.NEF
...
IMG_0300.NEF
Â
WHAT I RENAMED TO ACCIDENTALLY:
IMG_0001 {shot by John Doe}.NEF
...
IMG_0300 {shot by John Doe}.NEF

i'm currently working on a new website with a friend, we are using Dropout to share the files, he's the coder, and i design. Im using a pc at the moment, and he's on a Mac, when i save my files, they are saved with capital letters, and to upload it in dreamweaver on a Mac they cant have capital letters. So my question is, is it possible to change the file name to .jpg instead of .JPG? And how do i do it?

I am exporting multiple views as DWGs to create backgrounds.
Â
When I set Naming: to Automatic - Short, it produces files named like:
FloorPlan-2D_L1_Interiors.dwg,
FloorPlan-2D_L1_Structural.dwg,
FloorPlan-2D_L2_Interiors.dwg, etc.
Â
The 2D_L2_Interiors is the name of the view, and it is a FloorPlan so it adds that as a prefix. I am looking for a way to force Revit to ignore the prefix.
Â
Is there a way to export these so they are automatically generated like:
2D_L1_Interiors.dwg,
2D_L1_Structural.dwg,
2D_L2_Interiors.dwg, etc.
Â
Does the Naming: Manual (Specify file name) option have the ability to use fields for parts of the name, perhaps taken from Project Parameters or something? So in the filename box I'd be able to say {View Style}-{View Group}-{View Name}.dwg and end up 3D-Interiors-SomeViewName.dwg?
Â
Or should I download Ant Renamer and call it a day?

Is there a way of importing cad by shared coordinates, or are autodesk working on this for the next service pack, which would be very useful.
Â
It's great that the 'link cad' does it but why not import cad? This would be very useful as we model certain things (pipework statues,) from point cloud and model on other software, then we bring into revit, so we use the same coordinates as the point cloud (O.S coordinates.)
Â
Also I'm glad that Autodesk have added the shared coordinates to the point cloud insert for Revit 2013.

I am a student working on a research project exploring the integration of LEED criteria with BIM software, and I am exploring the use of both Revit and Excel to accomplish this task. Â One major problem that I am running into though, is with Shared Parameters.
Â
I have created a set of LEED-specific shared parameters in Revit. Â These parameters are things like "Plumbing Fixture Family," "Plumbing Fixture Type," "Ventilation Zone," "Refrigerant Use," etc... basically different parameters that will inform an Excel spreadsheet containing formulas to calculate, ultimately, the total points awarded for each LEED credit.
Â
My problem, is that in Excel, the names of the values for these shared parameters need to be very specific in order for it to work with the formulas I have created. Â What I need from Revit is the ability to create a shared parameter with a drop-down menu containing a set number of options that can be applied to any component in a project, so this can be done early-on in Revit, rather than after-the-fact in Excel. Â Such as choosing the type of refrigerant used in HVAC&R equipment (and yes, you could just type the refrigerant type into a text parameter field, but if it's not typed exactly as it is in the pre-determined formula it is associated with in Excel, it will return an error in Excel, which is less than desirable - a drop down would reduce/eliminate the margin of error).
Â
Is there any way to accomplish this task? Â From what I have found online, this is only slightly possible in Family Parameters - I haven't found anything about Shared Parameters.

I have no problem adding a shared parameter, but if I assign it the wrong type and it appears impossible to change it without adding a new parameter under a different name. I then deleted the old one, but Revit doesn't like that. They appear difficult to purge or delete without a hiccup relating to the original label the parameter was assigned to.
Â
Example: I made a parameter for my clients occupied area (Footprint) and used the integer type by mistake. Apparently integers are only supposed to go up to 999. It refused to recognize the "Digital Grouping" so I had to convert over to the Area type.Â
Â
If I try to change the type the field is grayed out.

I've created a family that represents a poke-through with nested, shared families for different components. Everything visible in plan is made with Symbolic lines instead of Generic Annotations. The reasons being too numerous to explain here.
Â
The problem I'm running into is that the family looks fine when the View Discipline is set to Architectural but when set to Electrical (1/8" scale in both) part of the shared components begin to get masked. I cannot figure out why they are behaving this way, except that some of the lines are creating some sort of masking area in the Electrical discipline. When the nested families are not shared the component looks fine in both disciplines. I've attached images and the family for you to try.

I am trying to publish to the CC a guide rail. The vendor of the rail gives me the option of entering the desired length of the rail. After that he gives me the option to choose between the length that I entered and a shorter and longer standard length witch can be delivered faster.
I want to do the same thing with my published part, but I cannot make a key parameter to change depending on the entered custom parameter. I want the user to make the next steps when inserting from the CC: 1- select the size of the rail; 2-select the type of the rail; 3- enter the desired length of the rail; 4- choose between the desired length and the 2 recommended lengths (I need these 3 lengths to be shown)
Is this possible?

I have a spreadsheet and iLogic driven mater assy to generate different iterations.
I would like to change the scale of a base view on a drawing based on a parameter in my assembly. The idea is to get iLogic to change the view using a simple If / Else statement.
This is what I tried:
If Parameter("0 Generic Assembly v2.2.iam.BP") < 1570 Then
ActiveSheet.View("VIEW1").Scale = 1/8
Else
ActiveSheet.View("VIEW1").Scale = 1/10
EndIf
So basically the value of "BP" parameter (excel parameter in my assy) would drive the scale of the views. But its not working. Is it actually a sensible method? Can I use in the drawing environment the excel parameters in my assembly?
This is the error message I get when the rule is run:
"Error in rule: View Scale, in document: 0 Generic Assembly v2.2.idw
Unspecified error (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80004005 (E_FAIL))"Â
Also using the same thinking I use iLogic to populate the drg number field on the drawing based on an excel parameter. The rule works but does not always updates the drawing no upon the parameter change or update/rebuild commands.

I noticed that my computer was slowing up, BIG time. This thing's got dual quad core Xeon, 12gb DDR3, ATI FireGL V8600, etc. I could hear it processing something constantly and as I was in CAD I couldn't really do anything. When I opened the task manager and looked at the processes, "accoreconsole. exe" (an AutoCAD component) was using 10.5gb of memory. On my performance tab, my memory was maxed at 11.5gb for at least a half hour.
Today, I dealt with it all day long by ending the process whenever I'd notice it on the list of processes, or if the computer suddenly began to lag. I've also been having trouble with Dropbox. Not sure if this would at all be related but, if I try to save a file to a shared dropbox folder, it gets to 81% and freezes with the (Not Responding) message up top. I can save just fine to my network folder though.

We build our models in Sketchup. Export a 3d DWG and import that into Revit 2014 (through Conceptual mass). That way we can export sections etc from Revit.
The problem is that Revit sees the 3D DWG as a Mass, and therefore don export the layers we want to AutoCad.Â
Is there a way to "explode" the 3D DWG in Revit so it gets divided in to the layers we had before it was transformed into a Mass. So the layers follows the DWG export to Autocad?

I am confused how this would work with other users? Or does AutoCAD automatically correct for this?Â
