AutoCAD Inventor :: Difference Between Italic And Normal Parameter Names?
Oct 30, 2013What is a difference between italic and normal parameter names in a Derived Part window?

View 3 RepliesStarting brand new project. Would like to change the name of some shared parameters within my txt file. As far as I know you cant chnage the name once its established witin Revit (unless theres a third party app). Would there be any issue withi this? Utimately I am pushing these parameters into new geometry and I would like them to better conform to a standard for a particular customer. I rennamed JUST the parameter name and it seemed to work ok.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have user parameters that are no longer needed and are not being used anywhere. They each takes 4-5 seconds to delete, prior to 2012 this would happen instantly.

I need to convert a model parameter to a reference parameter thru the API.
I saw this item discussed in the group before, but I cant find the thread.
I got a deadline for my project, but I got a big problem:
"I cannot set the "parameter" for the End Value in Parameter Animate dialog"
For easy understand, let's see a example:
1. I got a part which has two parameters named: "A" and "MaxA"
2. I animate Favorited parameter A.
3. The End Value is MaxA_ (Everything is ok)
4. I finish Studio environment, then I change parameter MaxA_ from 200 mm to 400 mm
5. I turn back to Studio environment, the End Value now is "200 mm" (I want this will be MaxA_, so I can animate the flexible parameter).
show me how to keep the end value will be "MaxA_" after I change parameter?
I am trying to publish to the CC a guide rail. The vendor of the rail gives me the option of entering the desired length of the rail. After that he gives me the option to choose between the length that I entered and a shorter and longer standard length witch can be delivered faster.
I want to do the same thing with my published part, but I cannot make a key parameter to change depending on the entered custom parameter. I want the user to make the next steps when inserting from the CC: 1- select the size of the rail; 2-select the type of the rail; 3- enter the desired length of the rail; 4- choose between the desired length and the 2 recommended lengths (I need these 3 lengths to be shown)
Is this possible?
I'm in the process of creating 3D points (as an overlay) on some laser scanned data (using RiScan, it's just 3d dimensional data, with a northing, easting and RL) and unfortunately the only export option is to export to .dxf... Which is fine but when I export, the information has the point ID as the layer name.
I am aiming at getting this data into another program to analyse and it needs the point ID or name to be my annotation, as opposed to the layer.
So what I need is a way of converting the names of each individual points layer, to the point ID.
Why, when I create a plane, I cannot 'flip normal'? There is nothing in the RMB click for it...and I am not sure why. Still there in part...just not assembly. Was it ever?
Alternatively, when I create a plane, is there a way to create with the normal in a direction of my choosing? Never tried to figure this one out cause I always had flip normal...

I have a cylinder on top of a curved surface; I want to make the cylinder land adaptively to the surface, so I projected the circular face of the cylinder in the surface, which ended up being a 3D sketch. I tried to loft a solid between both curves, but it always gives me errors. Some examples are:The attempted operation did not produce a meaningful result. Try with different inputs.Multiple disjoint loops found in a profile section.
I have had success when trying to do the same thing with curved surfaces in two dimensions only (e.g. extruding a 2D curve), but I think the error is produced since the curved face I am trying to use belongs to an elipsiod.
how incredible it is that Inventor still does not have a functional normal cut option for sheet metal like Solidworks and Solidedge have long had and I agree. I realize that there are the standard workflows like using derive and thicken to get around this problem. However, for those interested, there is a way to make a normal cut (for laser/cnc) directly in the sheet metal part in many cases. It involves using a sketch to split a face and then using the resulting profile for a thicker/cut feature. I'm always interested in any other methods out there for obtaining normal cuts in complex sheet metal (for a clean dxf export). By the way, Autodesk, do you actually not have any plans of ever adding functionality in this area?

I'm having trouble changing a reference part back to normal. It's in a sub nested 2 levels. I earlier had it as a phantom but changed it easily to reference. Now I need it to be normal.
I've tried going into each level to change it. I cannot access it unless I change the BOM to read "Model Structure" since reference parts don't show up under BOM structure. When I click on Reference (it has a little X in it) it will seem like it's going to change but turns back to ref every time.
I went into the lowest sub & was able to change the part to Default through Properties but it just goes to reference again in the main assembly.
I have several frames built by Frame Generator in project.
Than one frame has been diminished much while design so I use just several frame links just like parts without skeleton.
Those frame links I have renamed since I have several copies and I would like to have unique name. Now when I start the assembly consisting those links Inventor naturally inquires about missing files.
I show to renamed one and everything works ok except when I start the file again it asks again nevertheless file has been saved. Inventor still remember this frame link names as it used to be in browser and does not accept replacement.
[URL]........
I wish I must not rebuild those parts from scratch again. Therefore I have two questions
Is it possible to save this frame part as normal part (save as does not do it) ?
Is there some other way to get rid of Frame Generator status of some part built by Frame Gen?
I have a complex surface that consists of many patches. I need to place a work axis perpendicular to one of the patches on the surface of the cheek. It could be on the interior of the patch or it could be at one of the vertices of the patch.
View 6 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to stop the flipping of the solid/sketch view from iso to normal?
its annoying to make changes to a sketch and constantly have to re orient the part after finishing a sketch, I dont want the solid model to return to iso view after sketching, is there a setting for this?
I have a part that was made from content center and modified further. I would like Inventor to no longer recognize this part as a content center part. It has been renamed and migrated to 2013 format, but still when inserting into an assembly the assembly recognizes it as a content center part in the browser.
Also, the browser title for the part will not update with the file name.
I would like to be able to offset a 3D Sketch in a direction normal to a plane. In the attached image, I have drawn in an orange color the direction I would like the 3DSketch to offset. The white line is where the new sketch would be.
The yellow surface is the 3dsketch extend to a plane
There might be some tools in Inventor that will do what I am trying, but I have not found it yet. I have tried extend surface, but that will not take it the direction I want.
I need to use the dimension created by an action-parameter as a variable in a user defined function but AutoCAD will not allow me (see attached).
How may I access the action-parameter's dimension ?
I typicaly use romans for my text, however it doesnt allow you to bold or use italics.
Is there a way to change this, or is there a font that is very similar that will let you bold and italic?
it is possible to use a user defined parameter to drive a action parameter.
I have several polar and linear stretch actions i would like to drive from one parameter.
why this difference in weight is appearing? Obviously i probably did something wrong. But what?

I want to delete unnecessary templates. I use metric ones, and there are two metric assembly templates. What are, in general, the differences between assembly templates?
There are many style differences between drawing templates, but for part and assembly?
What is the difference between Constrain and Assemble?
They both seem to create the same mating constraints, but Assemble doesn't work with adaptive parts.
Any other difference (other than the interface)?
why there is huge difference in Dynamic Simulation results when you use two different input methods? I used input grapher and in linear ramp, I entered input (time/ distance) manually for 6 points and ran simulation. Then I used Spline and used a text file to enter SAME data and it gave me at least 10 times different results. Can't figure out why this difference. This changes my entire design.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to accomplish this without editing styles, and changing names in Content Center?
For example, I like my drawings to show STEEL, MILD instead of Steel, Mild in the BOM. Is there an option I can set to make all materials and Content Center parts' names capitals? I think one should perhaps be given this option during installation...?
I'm trying to get the filenames of some drawings in a folder. I've got the following code, but it's not working. I get a file count from the line "filecount = objFiles.Count", so it's recognizing "objFiles" as the collection of files in the folder, but everything after that simply does nothing. Oddly, I can change the "If" statement from "<>" to "=", and it still reads the "Then" statement in both cases. However, the FileName is blank.
Dim objFile As FileDialogs
Set objFile = New FileDialogs
objFile.Title = strFolderName
objFile.StartInDir = "C:Documents and Settings"
strFolderName = objFile.ShowOpen

I want to know if there is any api to check if a particular drawing is a assembly drawing or part drawing.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am working on an assembly with subassemblies totaling over 400+ parts. I have been renaming a bunch of the files, then opening the assembly and updating the part associasions. Most parts changed their name to the respective file name, while others have not (within the assembly). When I open the actual part, the proper part name shows up, but within the assmeblies the original name shows. I went into iproperties and the occurences tab; the proper name is shown. The proper part names show up within design assistant as well (via right clicking on assembly file).
How can I have the part names within the assemblies update to the proper names?
