Photoshop :: Unlink Background In The Layers Pallete From The Other Layers
Mar 14, 2007how to unlink my "background" in the layers pallete from the other layers.
I am using photoshop CS2. on a mac OS X.
When i make changes to other layers in the layers pallete, it changes my 'background' as well. I know that i can duplicate it but regardless, the 'background' changes according to what i do to the other layers even tho it is locked.

Feb 21, 2008I am trying simply to work with layers, however when I start a new document and then import a photo, the background automatically locks. The lock icon is visible in the layers pallate. I can drag that icon to the trash and import another photo but the first photo disapears as the layers all merge on top of one another and the lock icon returns.

Photoshop :: Export Layers To File (With Same Background)
May 30, 2006I have found the "Export Layers To Files" in File-->Scripts which is pretty slick. I have a PSD file with about 60 layers, so this is handy.
The trick though, is that when they get exported out to a file I want them all to have the same background.
I have a layer that I want to be the background for all the images, right now it's "Layer 1". Is it easy to modify the export all layers script to use Layer 1 on the image copy before saving it? It looks like the script takes each layer, creates a new file, copies the layer (which is transparent) and then saves as a JPG. I just want one extra step in there that will copy the Layer 1 layer for each image too.

Jan 8, 2008I worked the whole day on the design for a new web. Some hours ago I saved the file and closed it. Now I re-open it - and I can't believe what I see! All the previously existing layers have gone, or better: they've been merged down to the "Background" layer! %0
Well, it's no bigger deal to re-do my work, it will have to sacrifice "only" another 1 or 2 hours for it. But I'm quite full of fear that this could happen again! But because I have no idea how this could have happened I don't know what to do better next time...
So does anybody of you have an idea, what could have happened...? I have whether changed the image mode on purpose nor edited the PSD file with another application! I only opened the file with OS X Preview, but this is (as the name implies) only an application for displaying stuff, not to modify it...

Nov 14, 2013I have Photoshop CS 5.1 running on Windows 7. When I resize a layer using the Free Transform function, the image "Pixilates" and looses sharpness. I have used this feature before on my computer without a problem. I took my work to school to show my instructor. I did the same thing on the school's Apple without problem. What am I doing wrong?

Apr 4, 2013The issue I run into is when I make a photo black and white and bring out a single color by selecting the areas of color with the magic selector. Once I have the colored area selected I either invert and turn the rest of the image black and white, or I will create a new duplicate layer and delete out the content in one layer and eventually merge the color and black and white layers to make my final image.
My problem is I always get a white gap between the colors and black and white images, or layers. I have tried to use the refine edge menu option, but this never solves the problem as the feather option, and move edge option do not cover the gap, they just move it.
I have resorted to using the healing brush to hide the line or merge the colored and black and white layers together. The issue with this is some times it is in a highly visible spot and the healing brush does not always make a great look. In other words you can tell that I merged two colors or images together.
I have also have this issue when I use the selection tool on images I blur certain portions of. It seems to happen any time I am using the selection toold and I assume there is a standard way of avoiding this.
I am using elements 11.
Photoshop Elements :: Layer(s) Not Showing Up On Top Of Background - Only In Layers Panel?
Jan 16, 2014Started working with PSE and when I tried to "stamp" a brush shape (whether default brushes or otherwise), the program does something it had never done before....SEE ATTACHED. I will create a new layer to use my brush, but when I try to "stamp" it onto background, the program then creates a layer mask where I can see the brush shape AND a new layer, however ALL that shows up on the background is the icon you can see in my screen grab I am attaching here. What is this icon? (The teeny one middle right of image, black square, outlined in red, with two red circles in the middle) I called Apple, we did a few things, they said it wasn't on there end. I reset my tools, I uninstalled, reinstalled, to no avail. Again, I've reset all tools, the "eye" icon on layers panel shows it should be visible, I've tried layers-->merge visible, I've uninstalled and reinstalled.....

May 31, 2012Every once in a while I print that has two side-by-side images on one piece of paper. My usual routine is to create a new document that is larger than the two images--say, 10x8 (horizontal) with a transparent background and the same resolution as the two images that I'll be placing on the canvas (say, two 4x3's). Then I simply click on the image I want to move and drag it from its layers palette onto the blank background canvas, and move/edit/size as needed.
when I drag an image over to the blank canvas, it assumes the size of the entire canvas. so I just have the image... enlarged. With no background canvas. when I click on the new image (the one dragged to the canvas), all of the editing commands are grayed out. So I cannot resize or move it.I'm on CS5 (mac)

May 28, 2013I've only just started having a problem with Photoshop. I'm running it on Mac OSX
My images will randomly take a chunk out of all layers, and the background will turn black where it was originally white. In one case all the layers on my canvas were distorted by a checker pattern of bright colours. All the images I am currently working on are in RGB mode which were hand drawn black and white images that were scanned.
I'm not sure what is going on but closing the image without saving and the closing photoshop and even restarting my computer doesn't seem to fix the problem.
Photoshop :: Using Transform Or Selection Tools Makes Non-background Layers Or Whole Document Invisible
Dec 15, 2012I recently started having this problem in Photoshop CS6 where using the transform or selection tools makes all the layers other than my background layer disappear so I can't see what I'm selection or transforming. This happens randomly out of nowhere. I can be using those tools all day with no problem, and then out of nowhere it starts making things invisible.
There doesn't seem to be any other programs running that would cause it (not that that should be an issue, my computer could easily run all my Adobe programs at once if I wanted it to), and the only thing that seems to fix it so far is restarting Photoshop. But that gets old really fast when I have to do it over and over again. I tried calling Adobe, but somehow they're always closed, even during their supposed hours of operation.

Aug 6, 2013I'm using CS6 and noticed that whenever I delete a layer that was a dupe of another layer with links (although not linked specifically to the deleted layer), the undeleted original layers become invisible on the canvas even though they are still visible in the layers pallette. I've been able to recreate this several times. Nothing I do will make the layers visible -I've tried moving them all to the top of the layers palette, making sure their opacity is 100%, making sure there are no layer effects, etc.

I work in Animation painting Backgrounds. My files are sometimes upwards to 200+ layers.I will use adjustment layers to quickly balance colours and constrast on top of those many many layers.
The only way that I know of how to apply adjustment layers it to every single layer ( by applying I mean I need to get rid of the adjustment layers because we cant use them in production but i need the new colours be applied to all layers underneath ) in a psd is to manually do it By duplicating the adjusment layer 200+ times and then merging each layer to one of those adjustment layers so that that layer can take the adjustment layers effect permanently.
The issue is that Within Those 200 layers I have some layers set to Multiply or OVERLAY. IT obviously wont apply the adjustment layer properly to those layers because those layer blend mode affect the layers under them. The colour wont be the same anymore in the spots that had the multiply blended mode.

I have 2 adjustment layers up top. I need to get rid of them by applying them to each layer! I cannot merge any of the layers. We need all those layers for production.I can apply the adjustment layers manually and this works GREAT for all Layers set to normal. THey take on the colour change just FINE.
However, The issue is that layer 6 and layer 4 are both set to mutiply and this screws up the colour once i apply the adjustment layers to each layer manually...
How can i apply my adjustment layers to a file like this with some layers being set to multiply while keeping the layers exactly the same configuration and The new colour taking effect exactly how i looks before i apply the adjustment layers? Now the simple solution is to merge the multiply layers to the layer that it affects HOWEVER I NEED those multiply layers to be separate!

On top of those there is curves and levels layer that affects every layer below. I want to save all images to .jpg for videoedit with those curves at least. I don't want to merge same curves 100 times. Is there a solution in phothoshop cs5 or cs6 available? Would save alot of working hours. All I have got by this far is blank white images of adjustment layers and non adjusted jpg-files.

And say I created 3 adjustment layers on top of those 100 layers to get the adjustments that i want for those layers. I'm happy with the adjustments but Then I NEED to merge those 3 adjustment layers to ALL those 100 layers.
Is there a way to easily permanently apply the adjustments to each of those layers without having to do it manually? I absolutely need to merge the adjustments to the seperate layers because of how the layers are being used in a seperate 3d program.
So far what I've been doing is duplicating the adjustment layers for each layer and merging them to said layers separately.. I wish I could just right click the adjustment layer and Tell it to merge to everylayer it affects or apply to every layer underneath it!
