Photoshop :: Undoing Layers In Image

I have this image that was edited. It was a photo that had black blocks put on it, censoring it (by probably MS Paint).
But anyway, when the file is in a folder, I can see the image (in the preview part of a folder in Windows) as a thumbnail without the blocks, like the blocks are gone. But when I open the image, the blocks are there.
The part of the image I need is obviously in the file, in a lower "layer" (per se).
How do I uncover it?
I have Photoshop 6 and GIMP and played around with both and I cannot seem to do it. Can anyone help me?

Is there any way to undo things you have done before you saved and quit photoshop just to realize you messed up?

Is there anyway to reverse the effects of using dodge, without undoing?
That is, is there some kind of brush like dodge that will..."undodge"?

I've done a few filters on some drawn images, and I cannot remember what I have done to those images so that I can do it to others. the file was already saved so i cannot revert to a previously saved session, and the history only shows up to the last save.
can anyone help me find out what i have done to this drawn images(it is just writting the was done using a paintbrush, just can't remember what filters I did after).

Picasa's Recrop feature restores the marquee from before you click Commit on a crop, which allows me to adjust or tweak the marquee. Is there an equivalent command in Photoshop Elements? It's a BIG time saver.

All of my image layers have randomly converted to smart object layers and I can no longer resize them in the ps document. Why would it do this and how can I undo it?

I have this consistent problem, can duplicate it.
1-create new document
2-create a simple vector shape (rectangle, circle, etc.)
3-Convert to bitmap (i used default settings)
4-Trace (I used LOGO, but I don't think it matters)
5-Undo until it's vector again.
Program closes.

I am working in AutoCAD 2013 on a .dwg drawing. There is a section of hatch that was exploded at some point and I want to set the individual hatch lines back to a hatch grouping, but since it was done long ago, using the undo command is not an option. It there a way I can take all of the individual hatch lines and group them back into a hatch?
My goal is to get the individual hatch marks back to a hatch group so that way I can use the hatch editor to modify the hatch style. Is this possible?

If I were to work on a file and proceed to close it and then re-open it with the intent of undoing or recovering information, is there anyway to do this?
It may be useful for me and others to know if there is a way round in case this does happen.

When using the undo command, plotting or switching between drawings in Autocad 2010 and now also 2011 I am experiencing long delays of up to 15-20 seconds at a time which is rather frustrating. I am running a fast spec computer and can't seem to overcome it, I haven't had the problem with 2009 and when need to do something quickly have found myself using the outdated software. Other users in the same office have equal or lesser spec computers and are not having the same issues, I have tried a re-install and this hasn't worked either. I was hoping the new 2011 version would solve this issue but no luck.

on one of my layers, i selected "group into new smart object". then, when i tried to apply a gradient to the layer, i got a message that basically said a smart object was not directly editable.
is there a way for me to undo the "group into new smart object"?
also, how do i group layers in photoshop cs2?

I have pc that uses xp pro cs5.1 extended....everything on the program works!! in normal editing mode I can do most things including sharpening, selection....recently I started to edit within layers and I can get most things done...but I cannot figure out how to sharpen the image once it is in layers as it is not one of the choices in the drop down menu, the same goes for selection.
If this cannot be done then I will flatten the image and edit normally. My knowlege of layers is basic.

See my attached screenshot--I've got an image that I pasted into Photoshop. You'll see that it is showing up in my layers palette, but not in the actual image on my screen.

I'm trying to separate a line-art drawing that I took into illustrator to "live trace" and "live color" it (so it is now an AE file) into layers so I can take it into after effects and animate it. Here's the prob:
1. In photoshop, the "extract" filter is not availble to use. why?
2. because I can't extract, I'm having to erase everything I don't need in each layer. Only problem is that the bounding box/anchor point for each layer is the same as the document. I need them to be independent of the document size and instead follow the image in each layer.
I'm using CS2 on a G5 mac.

I really need to find a way to take a numbered image sequence and, through some File Browser magic, open them all into one PS document as Layers. Now, I noticed that the Photomerge option does just this, but then goes on to rearrange the layers into a panorama which I don't want.

I've been working with an image with about a half dozen layers. Some of these are Curves adjustment layers, I've also added a layer, using Soft Light mode, and then paint either in black or white to dodge and burn the image. At some point, when I started painting in this layer, or in the masks of the adjusment layers, instead of seeing my results in the image, I'm see red brush strokes being added to the image. It looks like the red you get when you toggle the "" key and you're seeing what's in the layer and the masks in rubylith.
Also, when I select a layer, it turns light gray, not blue, as with other images.

I have an image that I've made in illustrator / Photoshop and I noticed that when I save the image as a JPEG out of Photoshop after it is finished it looks way different that it does while in Photoshop.
I merged the layers just out of curiosity and it looks that way after all of the layers are merged. Why it is doing that. Is there something I can do to change this? it is just happened to one of my images. I have multiple pieces in this style and it hasn't happened to any of the other ones.

I am editing figures for a journal and I need arrows for multiple images. Is there a standard arrow? I can only see free hand. If I use a free hand arrow I then want to copy it to the other images for consistency. How do I copy or share layers between images?

I am trying to save all the layers I have in my PSD file as separate layers in a folder that I created. I trying to do this by going to File- Scripts- Export Layers to Files but when I set it up and do this I get an error message saying:
"General Photoshop error occured. This functionality may not be available in this version of Photoshop. -The command "Duplicate" is not currently available."
I am not sure why this is saying "this version" considering I installed it not too long ago and the document has been made a few days ago meaning I never even used another version of photoshop. I have all the layers visible too and even selected them. I am using Photoshop CS6 by the way.

Using PSCS4 on XP.
I have a Photoshop document made by someone else that I am opening. There are 5 layers. 3 are hidden. When I hide all the layers, the image still appears on screen.
In the layers palette I see Unify: with 3 icons to click on and Propogate Frame 1 is checked. I don't believe I have ever seen this before in the layers pallete. Below I have an image of what is going on. Not sure if there is a way to set up a file like this when starting a new document or what, but this is what's happening; all layers hidden, but image appears.

I have CS2.I have created a series of layers that I would like to animate. At this point all of these layers are in the form of a psd file within CS2. How can I open this psd file in ImageReady and have access to all of the layers.
When I try it now, I end up only seeing one layer in ImageReady.

When I try to merge multiple images into one - like overlays and what not I always end up with 'sharp' edges between the layer - anyone have any suggestions as to how I can soften them up some?
I would imagine part of the problem is I have been using the polygonal lasso to help block off the areas i want to layer mask - I have tried the free hand lasso but the results are too wonky.

I have created a psd file with 5 layers. each layer contains a plain un filled box of various sizes. I have created some actions to toggle the visibility of the layers. The layers represent TV format shapes (16:9 4:3 title safe etc). I want to be able to double click on a jpeg and for it to open in photoshop (ok I know how to do that in windows) as the background layer with the other layers I have already created and saved to a psd file on top. Is this possible?
Also. If I have the image with the layers open can I drag an image into it that becomes the background layer?

I've been taking photos with a homemade lightbox which includes a white background and I typically have to go into photoshop to make some adjustments to get the background pure white. When I'm snapping a photo of an all white object against an all white background, it looks rather nasty if you use the auto color tool.
So from my understanding auto color uses the lightest white and the darkest black and the reason the white/white scenerio doesn't work it because of a lack of black. So to combat this I've been creating a new layer and adding a little black with the rectangular tool and filling it with black. Now, I'd like to be able to delete this second layer once I've used the auto color feature but can't figure out how.

Photoshop CS3ext.When I go to size an image and try to adjust the size, the numbers take off on their own with out me even trying to adjust. Also in layers, all the slider bars, the numbers go crazy, up and down without me doing anything
