I have a question about selecting sections of an image to copy or edit, and the best/easiest way to do it. I've been using the Pen to draw a line around the edge of the section(s) I want to edit, than tidy up the lines, convert it to a selection, and go from there. But this can often take a very long time.
if there was a better, faster and/or easier way to do this, or if using the Pen tool is probably the best way?
I'll use
this image
as an example (for lack of a better example image). Perhaps I want to take the dark blue area of the skirt, chest and feet and edit them to a different color (maybe I want to turn them red, for instance). Obviously the image has shading so not all of the colors are exactly the same, so the Magic Wand wouldn't help much.
To edit these sections, would using the Pen tool to drag a line around the edges and convert it to a selection be the best way, or is there another better way to do this?
It may be a stupid question, but I just thought I'd ask just in case there was a simpler way for me to go about editing my images.
And if it makes any difference, I have Photoshop CS2.

I have received permission to use the attached logo (1st image) on a business card for a project.
I want to place it on a blue background, so I've copied the type in Illustrator switched the colors so everything can be read against blue and worked well. However, I can't seem to get whatever file type I place of the shield in Illustrator (tiff, jpg, gif) to not have white pixels around it. You'll see what I mean in the attached 2nd image.
I made a selection of the shield and then did a layer mask of the rest of the logo. There are some extra pixels but some are so small that I don't think I can get them all. I've tried placing the logo in InDesign too and there is the same issue.

I want to alter a simple image from one color to another. The image is a gif image and I want to change it to color code #EF8216. Should be simple enough but when I type that in it gives me a color close to that but not that color (even though it says it is #EF8216). I have used CatchColor to test this and PhotoShop CS is not selecting the right color. I have tried using different ways of selecting the same color but none work. I need the color to match with part of my web site which is using #EF8216. When I use the bucket and save it, you can tell the diffence very easily with the naked eye.
How can I get PhotoShop to select the color I want?

Where is the option to have the Eyedropper only select solid colors and not multiple colors when sampling colors? I select the Eyedropper tool and do not see any options for this in the control panel.
I only have options for Sample Size, which layers to sample from, and whether to show sampling ring.

Using it to design minecraft textures. The textures are quite small, each block being 32x32 pixels and arranged in a 512x512 pixel sheet. Basically, I'm making a lot of small icons. Now, what I want to do is select an area, and change just some colors within it - like changing all greys for green or all reds for blue. I cannot find how to do this, apart from using the Wand to select the parts by themselves and change - it is possible, but veeery time-consuming (due to low resolution, every pixel that goes wrong will be noticed).

I had originally scanned a tiff image of my signature into my computer. Got it looking the way I wanted in Photoshop 6 and then cleaned it up some more in Illustrator 6. The lines are black and I would like to try some different colours but Illustrator only lets me choose from a pallet of no more than 5 colors!

I need to turn several of my photographs into vector images for textile printing. Is it possible to somehow adjust or control the Image Tracer selection to other colors like 10-11 (or other), instead of either 6 or 16 ?

Surprisingly i can't find any mention of this anywhere on the intertubes - very often I have a placed (photoshop/tiff) graphic with transparent background overlaying (on top of) a spot color area, the spot color prints out completely different from how it should be (and how it is on non-overlapped areas).
I've tried everything i can think of, including making an opacity mask to 'hide' the supposedly transpararent areas of the placed grahic. I know a clipping path might work, but some art is too complex for that.

When I select the Document Library option when making a color image trace, the colors shift in the image but do not match the selected color group. I've tried multiple color groups, and the colors always change, but never match the selected swatches.

Using CS6 on a MacBookPro Is there a way to find the closest matching Pantone spot colors to the cmyk colors I've created in Illustrator? I know it's easy in Photoshop using the color picker, but there must be a way to do this in Illustrator.

I've been trying to follow Dave Cross's method of making my selection on the new Background. I've tried cropping my RAW image, opening it as a Smart Image and moving it to the Destination Image. Also I tried opening it as an Image. I can't understand why I can't make a selection on that Layer in the Destination Image.

Within my image I am using the Pen tool to select an area that I want to copy. When I define the area with anchor points, close it then select Make Selection, New Selection, it puts the marching ants around not only the area I selected but also the entire image (see below).
This suddenly started happening.

When I have an color image I sometimes need to select a certain color from all the image. Is there a way with Photoshop CS2 to make this selection so the program figures out which areas have the same color specified and select it also? (did I explained myself?)
In other words if I want to select, say dark red in all the spots with the same color range, can I make the first selection of the color anywhere in the image and then use any selection option so it selects all similar colors?

I have a gif with a image and my ultimate goal is to save the image only, change the color of this image and put it on a background image in a repeated pattern. I've been looking at the tile tutorials for the pattern, but the image comes out horribly distorted and without space in between. The background itself is a gradient color (another 2 hour adventure) so I need the image without any background.

Any plugin or something that gathers all the colors within a given image and allows you to save the pallete in another image...If you seen a sprite sheet thats pretty much what Im asking for. It'd be cool if the colors were sorted by how dark it was and by RGB.

There is a noticeable difference in color (and gamma?) in my work images when I view them within Photoshop versus when I view them outside of Photoshop, say, with my Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.
When I attempt a 'Save for Web' the images look differently, too. What can I (what should I?) do to make my images look the same within Photoshop as when I view them from without. This info would save me a lot of wasted time previewing outside of Photoshop to adjust and make corrections within Photoshop. I know there are some color (gamma) adjustments that I haven't set yet.

I imported a vector image into an existing file. Then I ungrouped the imported image and changed the colors. Now I can want to shift the position and copy the imported image into another design.
Unfortunately when I click on it the image is still broken apart so it selects only the areas the cursor lands on...how do I group it back together so I can move the position of the entire image and copy it into another design?

I am trying to select the thorns/rose seperately in the attatched image, but because of the varying levels of definition of the borders, I cant see any way to do so other than by hand pixel by pixel. Are there any addons that make this task easier, or is there a simple function that I have just not seen.
My goal is to overlay it on three seperate colored layers, and "cut through" the lower layers with the top layer set on multiply, that way coloring the details while leaving the shading intact.
