Jul 1, 2012everytime i use the selection tool it selects the entire canvas and not the image i want. why is doing this? how can i prevent this?

Photoshop :: Pen Tool Is Selecting Entire Image
Aug 9, 2012Within my image I am using the Pen tool to select an area that I want to copy. When I define the area with anchor points, close it then select Make Selection, New Selection, it puts the marching ants around not only the area I selected but also the entire image (see below).
This suddenly started happening.

May 31, 2012Where there's an active selection over the entire canvas you are unable to Contract your slection.
Doesn't matter how you select the whole canvas - whether a Select > All, or simply by dragging over everything.
This has been an issue in PS since I can remember. Not sure if CS6 retains the issue. I'm guessing YES.

Feb 10, 2012I have a picture of a house with the sidewalk at the bottom. I am trying to fill the remainder of my enlarged canvas with "sidewalk". I know there has to be a way, but I can't figure it out!
I did try single row & single column marquee, but it gives me a striped pattern - not the exact sidewalk that the pic ends with.
Photoshop :: Selection Not De-Selecting After Patch Tool Use?
Apr 5, 2012When using the patch tool, I make the selection, pick my area for it to patch from and it patches just fine. BUT, the area I selected to be patched is still staying selected with marching ants around it and I have to CTRL-D to deselect before I can patch another area.
Thought it de-selected on old machine and it's driving me crazy trying to retouch some jobs where the patch tool gets a real workout...Am running CS5 (12.1x64) on a new Windows 7 64 bit machine, using a Wacon Intous 4 w/latest drivers.
Photoshop :: Selecting Vector Shapes Points With Direct Selection Tool?
Jun 24, 2013When I try to select points in my vector shape (this one is selected), and I have other vector shape behind that one, I start dragging with Direct Selection Tool in order to select those two points, I got selected three points, two from first vector shape, and one more form shape that was behind and in the area where I was dragging selection. Also, now both vector shape become selected. Why is this happening if only one vector shape was selected?
I'm using Photoshop CC.
Illustrator :: CS5 - How To Stop Selection Tool From Selecting Effects Around Objects
Jun 20, 2012If I have a number of shapes on top of each other, with, for example, a drop shadow on the top shape, whenever I try and select the shape below it (it is peeking out from beneath the top shape, so I click on this 'peeking' section of the shape to try and select it) I cannot - it just selects the top shape as the top shape's drop shadow is 'blocking' the shape below it. Make sense?
How do I go about about remedying this? I seem to recall being able to tell Illustrator to ignore 'effects' when making selections in CS4, but cannot work out how to do this in CS5. And is there a way to refine the 'sensitivity' or selection radius when clicking to make selections?
Photoshop :: Entire Image Turns Black When Using Type Tool In CC
Jul 17, 2013When I create a text layer, the whole image turns black. If I enter the text blindly, I will see the expected results when I finish and click on another tool. If I try to edit the text layer, everything turns black again.
I am not using the type mask tool. I can select and move the layer and I can blend the layer; I just can't see what I am typing. Using Windows 8

Photoshop :: Canvas Size Will Constrain Image Rather Than Cropping Canvas
Feb 23, 2012I just got CS5.1 at my job. This must be a preference, but when I adjust the Canvas size, it will constrain the image, rather than cropping the canvas. The Anchor in the Canvas Size menu appears outlined (highlighted?) which indicates that this is something in preferences that I can adjust.

Mar 29, 2013I am using PS CS6 13.0.1..When I use the selection tool, any selection tool, the image disappear.I tried to disable GPU but that did not work, nor did starting in safe mode without any plug-in.I find myself turning Photoshop On & Off several times until it is resolved. Sometime it may take even 15 times to turn on/off until resolved.

When I try to use the marquee tool, the lasso tool or the quick selection tool on an image, the image just goes black. I have to click back to "Open" on the History the get the actual image back. Aug 22, 2012This morning, my Selection Tool (the filled-in arrow) is acting like a Direct Selection Tool (the hollow arrow), but only when I click and drag on a group. It ends up select the anchors within the group rather than the whole group itself.
I've checked my preferences, quit and relaunched Illustrator a few times, and nothing seems to fix it. The problem briefly went away a few minutes ago, but came back when I quit and relaunched for good measure.
It's happening in Illustrator CS 5.1. I have CS6, and that version works fine, but I'm waiting on some plugins to be updated for it, so I'd like to use CS 5.1. I'm also running the latest Suitcase Fusion 4.

Aug 27, 2012 how to select items on the canvas, aside for selecting each individual layer on the layers panel. have Mac os X 10.7.4, and I previously had cs5.5 on my laptop.
I was able to use the direct select tool to select mulitple items by either dragging it would select anything in the box or using shift to select multiple items. Do I have to click on every item in the layer panel to select it on the canvas? Is there a option that I have checked when it should be unchecked?

Nov 13, 2011Im having some problems with GIMP and my graphire4 tablet. Im not using the pen, only the mouse in gimp. Using Windows Vista and a Wacom Graphire4 tablet. When drawing, the pointer is offset from where I am actually pointing my mouse. This only happens while drawing or selecting/cropping on the canvas. All the menus work fine, and the mouse works perfectly in other graphic programs and windows.

Jan 12, 2013I'm experiencing problems with selecting objects. Usually, when I double clicked multi line text, I could edit it, now I get a text: "select an MTEXT object:", which basically means I have to select it again.
Another example of this is quick selection tool. Usually I selected the objects, then went to quick select pop up screen and under "Apply to:" I selected "Current selection". Now, there's only "Entire drawing" option and if i want current selection, I have to re-select it again.
I checked all the selection options and stuff. I attached some screenshots.

Sep 1, 2013I have been continually annoyed, when creating a vector mask-heavy document, with trying to select vector mask points by dragging a rectangle only to find that it instead selects a layer higher up which has a larger vector mask.
The only workaround is to manually select the points of my mask or to drag a rectangle from outside the canvas, meaning I have to zoom out or scroll to the edge - sometimes annoying if I am zoomed in quite far.
I know that the move tool can be set to automatically select a layer, depending on what part of the image is clicked, but why is there not an option to turn this off for vector editing?
