Illustrator :: Scanned TIFF Image - Only 5 Colors In Pallet

Dec 24, 2012

I had originally scanned a tiff image of my signature into my computer. Got it looking the way I wanted in Photoshop 6 and then cleaned it up some more in Illustrator 6. The lines are black and I would like to try some different colours but Illustrator only lets me choose from a pallet of no more than 5 colors!

Illustrator :: Same Background Image (TIFF) Appears Different In Different Files

Oct 16, 2013

I am linking to the exact same background image file (TIF) in more than one illustrator file. This image is on the bottom layer in  four different files.

The opacity on the  image and the image's layer is set to 100% in all the files. In the dialog box for each of the layers that contain the image, the "Dim" control is unchecked. There are no other higher layers that contain artwork that might interfere with the image's appearance.

Yet...in two of the files, the image looks full and vibrant. In the other two files, the image looks dim and faded.

Is there another control that I'm missing that might be causing the image to be faded. (I want it to be full and vibrant.)

Xara :: Editing A Scanned Drawing Colors Using Shaped Color Fills And Transparencies

May 24, 2013

I am attempting to edit a scanned abstract drawing where many of the colors are similar, resulting in them printing as all the same shade of red. I am attempting to change some of the reds to have a greater degree of shading. I am aware that I can probably do this using masks and RGB tweaking; but it occurred to me that I can also use a drawn shape and color fill with transparency to change the shade. This worked very well; but it caused one problem I don't know how to solve.

The image I am editing is intended to be uploaded to a website named Zazzle that takes your artwork and puts it on their products. This includes anything from notecards to canvases, to clothing, to shoes, etc., etc. Customers browse the site to find products and images they like. I also have a free webpage on the site where I can promote the sale of these items with my artwork on them.

The image must be a high resolution preferably png file which can be resized greatly for the canvases or left as is for notecards and the like.

While experimenting with the size of my image, I discovered that the edits I performed stay the same size while the rest of the image increases. Is it possible to make the edited shapes part of the scanned image so they will increase and decrease with the rest of the image?

Illustrator :: Placed Graphics Image Area Changes Spot Colors They Overlap?

Jul 16, 2013

Surprisingly i can't find any mention of this anywhere on the intertubes - very often I have a placed (photoshop/tiff) graphic with transparent background overlaying (on top of) a spot color area, the spot color prints out completely different from how it should be (and how it is on non-overlapped areas).

I've tried everything i can think of, including making an opacity mask to 'hide' the supposedly transpararent areas of the placed grahic. I know a clipping path might work, but some art is too complex for that.

Illustrator :: Font Not Displaying / Loading Correctly In Character Pallet

Feb 14, 2013

I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard and Creative Suite CS5, Adobe Illustrator CS 15.1.0. I'm using Suitcase Fusion 4 ver. 15.0.5 (latest version). I'm having a problem with 2 of my fonts loading correctly in illustrator's Character pallet. They display like a missing fonts in the character pallet as shown in my screen shot with "less than" characters around them: < Carta >, , < ITC Zapf Dingbats > These fonts and files do not give me warnings for missing fonts. The files print and rip correctly. The font displays correctly in illustrator when I use them in a layout (as shown on pic). They also display correctly and are fine in all other applications: Quark, InDesign, Photoshop etc. My fonts are setup correctly, pared down system fonts, other user folders emtpy etc. I have font nuked with Suitcase, Font Nuke and did a safe start up to clear font caches. several times. I've also removed these fonts from suitcase and loaded them in my system folder to see if that fixed it. These fonts are used 1,000's of pages/files so replacing them with another verion isn't really an option.

Photoshop :: Advantages Of Storing Images In TIFF, TIFF LZW And TIFF JPEG?

Jul 5, 2004

I am cleaning up the Hard Drive on my Mac G4. My scanned images are taking a great portion of the 80 Gig drive. I finished clearing my external drive by removing nearly 60 gigs of images by storing them on DVD. I will do the same for the Mac drive.

My trouble is that all my images are stored in TIFF format which takes up enormous space no matter the storage. Since I output images in various sizes, mainly prints, to 30 x 40 inches, I need a master image archived in the best format for such. However, I do not want to fill my drives, or DVD, with large files. Code:

Photoshop :: Editing A Scanned Image

Apr 27, 2009

I'm currently an Art Major in school, and I've been studying examples from the Art Nouveau era. I've been sketching out symmetrical designs, scanning them and mirroring them on Photoshop.

All has gone well so far, however, I'm now trying to figure out how to clean it up and make it look "perfect". In terms of being perfect, I want it to look completely clean. I darkened the lines as much as I could and erased as much as I could, however, I've tried different things such as blurring, sharpening, and adjusting levels, but the lines still seem too jagged from the sketching. I'm wanting to smooth them out and make them look nice.

Here is my drawing:

and here is an example of what I would like it to look like(minus the completely filled in black part)

You see how crisp it is? No jagged edges, completely smooth and clean. This is what I want.

I could go through and try and erase all the shading but that would take ages and it's not very efficient.
