Illustrator :: Find Closest Pantone Spot Colors For CMYK Colors?

Mar 21, 2013

Using CS6 on a MacBookPro Is there a way to find the closest matching Pantone spot colors to the cmyk colors I've created in Illustrator? I know it's easy in Photoshop using the color picker, but there must be a way to do this in Illustrator.

Illustrator :: Converting Pantone Colors To CMYK Presets?

Jan 8, 2014

I have been trying to convert both Pantone Colors to CMYK and CMYK to Pantones on a few of my projects.  I walk throught the steps but nothing happens.  My counterpart which has CS5.5 also is able to do it both ways just fine.  Is there a pre-set someplace that I need to be aware of?

Illustrator :: Can't Find Pantone Colors From 7548 To 8002

Sep 27, 2012

I have my Pantone Solid Coated palette open in Illustrator but can't find the Pantone colors from 7548 to 8002 (they actually jump from 7547 to 8003, and I want to use 7737), my list is sorted by name.

The only thing I think might be the problem is that these have a transparant White value, and all the rest hasn't so maybe it's in another swatch ?

Illustrator :: Can't Convert Spot Colors To CMYK In Swatches Panel

Sep 17, 2013

I'm having an issue where I can't convert spot colors to CMYK in the swatches panel. Currently to fix I have to copy elements using the spot colors in to a new blank document, then convert them, then paste back into the original document.

Also if I try to delete the spot color, it doesn't fully delete the swatch.

I'm using Illustrator CC 17.0.0

Illustrator :: Cannot Find New PMS Colors Pantone And Solid Coated Charts

Feb 11, 2014

I have a Pantone + Solid coated book that has 336 new colors in the back. Specifically pms 2028 C. The problem is when I try to find it in the PMS charts in Illi CS6 or PS CS6, those 336 new colors are not in my Pantone + Solid coated charts. I ran the adobe updates and it updated what it needed but I'm still unable to find it. Am I looking in the wrong chart? The name matches that of my PMS book so it just doesn't make sense. I scroll through the Illi chart and also try to use the "find" section.

Illustrator :: CS6 - Find Process Colors (CMYK) In A File

Mar 26, 2013

I work in prepress. I have an Illustrator CS6 file that is made up of 3 Pantone Spot colors. I save the file as an eps from Illustrator and rip the file with our prepress software. When previewing the ripped file with our prepress software it shows me that I have process colors (CMYK) somewhere in the file. I can not see these colors visually in the ripped file so I go back to Illustrator to see if I can edit them out of the file. I use the Preview Separations tool but can't find those process colors anywhere. There are no placed images, everything is vector art. I double check any white color and make sure it doesn't have any tiny percentage of process color in it. I make sure my spot colors are indeed spot colors and not process colors. I add used colors, I delete unused colors. I can't find the CMYK being used anywhere in my Illustrator file. How to clean up these "hidden" colors? This was also a problem in CS3. I'm using an iMac 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5, Mac OS X, Version 10.7.5

Photoshop :: Mixing Pantone Colors - Just Like CMYK Channels?

Oct 31, 2013

What I'd like to do [in photoshop] is treat 4 pantone colors just like CMYK channels. What I mean by that is that I would like to replace Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black with my own colors [pantone colors] and have them mix and act exactly like those channels. As in, when I open a full color image, and my pantone [or any color] channels or color profile is active, the full color image will react to those colors [with the blending of the colors].

Instead of 45% Cyan, 55% Magenta, 83% Yellow, and 2% Black in a given spot, it would be a mix of the 4 chosen colors [example: 45% pantone A, 55% Pantone B, 83% Pantone C, 2% Pantone D].

or to put it another way, if I were to color the background in, say, a blue, I would be able to use the "Info" panel to see how much of each pantone color was mixed to create that color. Obviously there would be a limit to the colors I could create based on the pantone colors I select.

I don't want to do anything printing wise with this technique. I am looking at it solely as an on screen viewer or perhaps use it in some manner for screen printing.

Photoshop :: Spot Colors Do Not Hold CMYK Values

Dec 19, 2012

When placing a .psd file with a spot channel into illustrator, and then later copying this and pasting back into Photoshop the color shifts.

Original Photoshop spot color channel (0/100/81/16)
Color after pasting back into Photoshop (13/99/88/4)

We are making renders of packaging, so the designs are from illustrator. We correct this by removing the Photoshop spot channel and recreating this as a CMYK layer, but looking to avoid this step as we do many many renders. Even with assign color profile set to none this happens.

Viewing Photoshop channels you can see a difference in values between the linked image and illustrator flat tint.

Illustrator :: Mesh Gradients Using Pantone Colors

Mar 18, 2013

I'm struggling to create gradients for screen printing purposes. The artwork will be printed on 12oz canvas using 3-4 pantone spot colors.

1) if I fill an object with a single Pantone color, create a mesh gradient from it using a variety of different opacity settings, say 100%, 50% and 25%, then play around with the mesh handles to produce a pleasant, mixed background, will a gradient of this type work for screen printing? I don't know if a gradient of this type will require halftones, as a linear or radial gradient would.

2) it's my understanding that when you prepare artwork for screen printing using spot colors, each color should be on its own layer. In an attempt to add highlights or shadows to an object, if I copy an object and paste it in front of itself, then apply a gradient using another Pantone spot color, say Pantone Process Black(100% to 0% opacity), does it matter what the blending mode is? Obviously you'll get different results based on the option you choose, but again, I'm concerned here only with screen printing. I can then place the gradient on the Black layer.

The problem is that I'm familiar with off-set printing, and apparently gradients have to be converted into halftones when screen printing, so I'm trying to figure out the best way of creating shadows and highlights.

Illustrator :: Two Files / Same Pantone Color - Onscreen Looks Like Two Different Colors?

Jun 24, 2011

Recently we have been having this issue at work, We have a line of packaging that uses the same pantone color (375 C). When we go to create a new document and use that same pantone the color onscreen looks more saturated then its predecessor. The only think I can think of is that I've upgrade to the pantone plus system but have since uninstalled and reinstalled the old color books. Both documents are in CMYK color space and both use the same ICC profile. I know it wont appear this way when printed but we make a lot of PDFs for approvals and the colors come out more saturated in the PDF as well. See sample image below.

Illustrator :: Unnamed Global Colors From Pantone Color Manager ASE File?

Dec 23, 2013

I am not sure, if this -- or something similar -- was answered before but I couldn't find any suitable thread/message/...

First of all some system information:
* imac running OSX 10.8.x and macbook running OSX 10.9.1
* Illustrator CC
* Pantone Color Manager

I am trying to use the Pantone Fashion and Home / Paper color library provided by the Pantone Color Manager, specifically for using the Radiant Ochid 18-3224 TPX (Color of the Year 2014). I saved the named library to a *.ase file and opened it in Ai. From the number of colors I guess, that all colors are imported but I can't find the 18-3224. BUT there are lots of "Unnamed Global Colors" with some of them wich might be the one in question. Using 'xxd pantone.ase' in the terminal I can find at least the name "Radiant Orchid 18-3224 TPX", which means, that it is saved in the given file.

Illustrator :: How To Remove Spot Colors

Oct 9, 2012

I'm still working on changing a document I didn't create. It needs to be CMYK, but I keep getting error messages when I save it that there is a spot color. I saw one spot color in the Swatches (at least I seem to remember that's what the little dot in the corner means) and I double clicked it and changed it to CMYK. And I selected the one item that seems to have that color and I changed it to the CMYK version. But the swatch still has the corner dot and I still get the error message when I save.

Illustrator :: Spot Colors On Colored Paper?

Nov 8, 2013

I'm printing some spot colors on colored paper, and wondering if there is a way in illustrator (CS6) to approximate the ink/paper interactions. Im worried about the ink color (greens) shifting to brown on a yellow/peach paper.  I've approximated the paper color in Illustrator, and designated the pantone colors. I tried Multply- and the ink color definitely shifts to what I think it would- but not sure if that is the best way.

Illustrator :: CMYK Rendering Different Colors

Dec 2, 2012

I'm still using CS3.  A friend sent me a document created in CS6 (I think) that he saved as a CS3 document.  When I open this blank document he sent me, and then copy and paste a CMYK object from my CS3 original to his blank CS6 (saved as CS3), the object changes color quite noticeably (darker).  The CMYK values are identical, but they don't look anything alike.  On the left is a screen grab from my original CS3 document, and next to it a screen grab after I've copied and pasted the exact same objects into the CS6 created document.  The CMYK values are identical in both, and they're being displayed on the same computer on the same monitor.

Illustrator :: Action To Batch Spot To Process Colors

Jan 10, 2013

I'm a print designer. I have this Action I use to batch Illustrator files convert all spot colors to process. The problem I found recently in some instances where an object is black & white bitmap the Action converts to CMYK and that causes an issue for product representation because it does change drastically. I process a lot this files daily basis. As far as I know I don't think using an Action will prevent this from happening because it does work but I just want to confirm that in this forum. I can Insert a Stop in the Action to see what kind of image has been embeded but that defeat the purpose of running a batch.

here are the stepson the Action:
Unlock all
Select all
Convert to CMYK (Using Edit colrs)
deselect

Illustrator :: Do Custom Spot Colors Print Properly For Press

May 24, 2013

While creating the company logo and branding in Illustrator, I've taken the CMYK values of our color palette and created custom CMYK spot swatches for each of our brand colors. This was for consistency, because a spot's color numbers do not shift as you move between Adobe apps or from CMYK to RGB docs.

My question is — is it OK to hand off a document that contains these CMYK spots to a printer for 4-color offset or digital printing? Will it mess with the colors or will they simply igore the "spot" status of the color and use the CMYK values behind it?

Illustrator Scripting :: Getting Used Spot Colors In Color Legend On MAC JS Or Applescript

Mar 23, 2012

I've been looking around for a script that will take the used spot colors in a document and place them in a predetermined spot. I've came across several posts about this, such as the COLOR CHIPPER although I think it's focus was on swatches. What is confusing is the part of making New CMYKColor or RGB or if I even need to do that. I've looked at other posts and the Adobe docs, but none seem to work. Adding the text isn't difficult, it's getting these spot colors to reflect what's in the document that is. From what I'm seeing now:

I may have to use some other type of script such as Applescript to get rid of unused swatches first throught the actions panel, but I'm not sure.I could possibly use the getByName method to call out the specific rectangle and the and relative callout with the appropriate color instead of having to position everytime.

Illustrator :: Placed Graphics Image Area Changes Spot Colors They Overlap?

I've tried everything i can think of, including making an opacity mask to 'hide' the supposedly transpararent areas of the placed grahic. I know a clipping path might work, but some art is too complex for that.
