View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm struggling to create gradients for screen printing purposes. The artwork will be printed on 12oz canvas using 3-4 pantone spot colors.
1) if I fill an object with a single Pantone color, create a mesh gradient from it using a variety of different opacity settings, say 100%, 50% and 25%, then play around with the mesh handles to produce a pleasant, mixed background, will a gradient of this type work for screen printing? I don't know if a gradient of this type will require halftones, as a linear or radial gradient would.
2) it's my understanding that when you prepare artwork for screen printing using spot colors, each color should be on its own layer. In an attempt to add highlights or shadows to an object, if I copy an object and paste it in front of itself, then apply a gradient using another Pantone spot color, say Pantone Process Black(100% to 0% opacity), does it matter what the blending mode is? Obviously you'll get different results based on the option you choose, but again, I'm concerned here only with screen printing. I can then place the gradient on the Black layer.
The problem is that I'm familiar with off-set printing, and apparently gradients have to be converted into halftones when screen printing, so I'm trying to figure out the best way of creating shadows and highlights.
Recently we have been having this issue at work, We have a line of packaging that uses the same pantone color (375 C). When we go to create a new document and use that same pantone the color onscreen looks more saturated then its predecessor. The only think I can think of is that I've upgrade to the pantone plus system but have since uninstalled and reinstalled the old color books. Both documents are in CMYK color space and both use the same ICC profile. I know it wont appear this way when printed but we make a lot of PDFs for approvals and the colors come out more saturated in the PDF as well. See sample image below.

The only thing I think might be the problem is that these have a transparant White value, and all the rest hasn't so maybe it's in another swatch ?
I have been trying to convert both Pantone Colors to CMYK and CMYK to Pantones on a few of my projects. I walk throught the steps but nothing happens. My counterpart which has CS5.5 also is able to do it both ways just fine. Is there a pre-set someplace that I need to be aware of?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Pantone + Solid coated book that has 336 new colors in the back. Specifically pms 2028 C. The problem is when I try to find it in the PMS charts in Illi CS6 or PS CS6, those 336 new colors are not in my Pantone + Solid coated charts. I ran the adobe updates and it updated what it needed but I'm still unable to find it. Am I looking in the wrong chart? The name matches that of my PMS book so it just doesn't make sense. I scroll through the Illi chart and also try to use the "find" section.

First of all some system information:
* imac running OSX 10.8.x and macbook running OSX 10.9.1
* Illustrator CC
* Pantone Color Manager
I am trying to use the Pantone Fashion and Home / Paper color library provided by the Pantone Color Manager, specifically for using the Radiant Ochid 18-3224 TPX (Color of the Year 2014). I saved the named library to a *.ase file and opened it in Ai. From the number of colors I guess, that all colors are imported but I can't find the 18-3224. BUT there are lots of "Unnamed Global Colors" with some of them wich might be the one in question. Using 'xxd pantone.ase' in the terminal I can find at least the name "Radiant Orchid 18-3224 TPX", which means, that it is saved in the given file.
I am working with a vector file that was created by someone else and am unable to get a hold of that person. It is of a logo and when I applied a colored background to the logo or import it into another file, the color of some objects of the log becomes very pale and "desaturated."

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhat I'd like to do [in photoshop] is treat 4 pantone colors just like CMYK channels. What I mean by that is that I would like to replace Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black with my own colors [pantone colors] and have them mix and act exactly like those channels. As in, when I open a full color image, and my pantone [or any color] channels or color profile is active, the full color image will react to those colors [with the blending of the colors].
Instead of 45% Cyan, 55% Magenta, 83% Yellow, and 2% Black in a given spot, it would be a mix of the 4 chosen colors [example: 45% pantone A, 55% Pantone B, 83% Pantone C, 2% Pantone D].
or to put it another way, if I were to color the background in, say, a blue, I would be able to use the "Info" panel to see how much of each pantone color was mixed to create that color. Obviously there would be a limit to the colors I could create based on the pantone colors I select.
I don't want to do anything printing wise with this technique. I am looking at it solely as an on screen viewer or perhaps use it in some manner for screen printing.
I just upgraded to X6 from X4 about 2 weeks ago. I do all of my work in spot colors since i'm in the screen printing industry. Since not all of my clients have upgraded I still have to save down my work to X4. This is where the problem begins. When its been saved down it's creating a LOT of extra colors in the print separations. It's a lot of the same color. For instance I used black, Pantone Rhodamine Red and Pantone Yellow...when I save it down to X4 it's giving me 2 blacks, 3 Rhodamine Reds and about 10 Pantone Yellows. When I export to pdf and open in Corel X4 it doesn't do this...only when I save down. I don't want to have to export and open each time I have to send a file.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI work in a print shop. We do a lot of work with a printing press as well as our digital machines. Whenever we design something digitally that has grayed areas or logos, and we want to print it using our press, we need to make sure the shaded areas have "dots" so that the ink from the press will spread evenly.
In CorelDRAW X4, I used to to have it sent to the general PANTONE uncoated palette. After selecting the gray area, I would double click the color box at the bottom right, bringing up the fill window. From here, I selected the Options drop down menu, then PostScript Options. Here I could set the dots and the frequency.
Now that we've updated to CorelDRAW X5, the palette options are quite different. I want to have one centralized PANTONE unocated set that stays for everything I work in. And the big problem, is that when I do find a good gray to use (after clicking through way too many choices), the PostScript Options is grayed out and can't be clicked on.
Hopefully my title gets the point across. I've read numerous threads on here where people seem to have the same issue, but I've yet to discover a solution.
I recently bought a new pc and installed Corel Draw X5. When I export to eps and open the eps in Corel, the Pantone colors appear nearly black. This is also true for my clients, although I'm not sure what program they are using to open the eps.
It is worth mentioning that on my old PC I did not have this problem. EPS files I exported from Corel Draw X5 were fine. I could export eps files containing Pantone colors, and the Pantone colors would be there when I opened the eps file.
The settings I'm using under export to eps dialogue are the exact same settings I was using before:
Output colors as Native and PostScript 3.
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, and CorelDraw X5 15.2.0.695
I'm an intermediate user and I've made a logo in PS CS2 and the printer told me that it was 6 colors and that I should reduce colors because of the expense of printing (on t-shirts).
how to reduce the number of colors in my image?
Is there a setting in CorelDRAW that will automatically add the colors in a design when it is imported/copy-pasted/opened to the color pallette? Like you import a logo and the colors are automatically in the pallette?
View 4 Replies View Relatedhow to get/determine the visible bounds (top+left coords and width+height or Rect structure) of a group having a clipping mask or several masks? When a script asks for Visible Bounds, Illustrator provides the coords/size of the group like it does not have any clipping mask. So, you see a circle of 10px diameter (and these are the actual visible bounds of this group), but Illustrator says that the visible bounds are 50 px wide and 70 px in height.
And what to do if the group contains multiple clipping masks of different shapes/sizes?
I have a series of Illustrator documents created over 2 - 3 years. They are artwork for labels of multiple sizes of the same product. It is important that the colour is consistent. In the period concerned I will have used CS5, CS5.5 and CS6.
I have just added to the range and the client came back to me saying that the "blue has changed”. Sure enough it has. When I compare, Pantone 652 on one it is darker than Pantone 652 on a newer one. Apparently it prints differently as well. When I copy and paste blue items from one document to another (either way) they change colour. In other words PMS 652 is not consistent from one document to another.
When I check the CMYK numbers on the two documents they are very different: 50/25/0/10 and 47/24/7/0.
I have read that Pantone wished to 'improve' some things, and I know I can change the colour book in CS6, or just work some projects in older Illustrator versions. But they all seem to me to be cumbersome work arounds. Surely Pantone 652 should always be Pantone 652.
I want to be able to check if an object really was created with pen tool. How do I do that? Is it possible?

I am developing a plugin for Illustrator CS5, 6. I have a scenario which requires the plugin to place a text frame inside a closed path art. How can I calculate the proper destination coordinates? The path art can be a curve or a rectangle, any shape. I need to place the text frame inside the path such that no part of the text frame overlaps the boundaries of the path art.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI created a logo in Illustrator CS5 made of several overlapping parts, all parts have the same Pantone color, but with different intensity (I'm not sure it's called intensity, is the bar, inside the Color Palette by which you can adjust the color from white to 100% of the Pantone color of your choice). What I'm looking for is a way to change the color of all the parts at once with another Pantone with a simple click, without having to manually adjust all the intensity of every single parts again. Now, when I try, all parts changes in the new Pantone color but all are at 100%. If i change only one part at a time the percentage of intensity is observed. I know that i can do it manualy, changing every single part, but i wonder if there is a faster way that i don't know.
