Illustrator :: Pantone / Libraries Not Registering In CS5?

Aug 30, 2012

I've just installed the pantone colour management software which is supposed to update CS with all the new pantone palettes including the + colours amongst other things. Although installation seemingly went fine, my CS palettes are unchanged and have not been updated. Have contacted pantone but no joy yet.

Illustrator :: Why Are Default Symbol Libraries Dumped Down

Jan 31, 2014

Once in awhile I try to use a symbol from one of the Symbol Libraries built into AI (CC in this case). I just wonder why they are dumbed down instead of retaining current features such as path profiles. This image, for example, would be a good starting point for an image if it were left with profiles intact.

I suppose these were created back with the feature did not exist. Then why not update them? I'm paying enough for the privilage of using AICC.

Illustrator :: How To Open Swatch Libraries On Start-up

Nov 8, 2013

I'd like my company color palette to be present when I create a new document.

I've tried saving the a color group as .ase but when I try and open my user defined swatch library, it's not clickable. That's a workaround for what I want anyway. It seems like there used to be an option called "persistent" in older versions but how do I get my colors to automatically appear when I'm using CC?

Illustrator :: Saving Color Groups As ASE Swatch Libraries

Jul 9, 2013

Is there a way to save an lllustrator color group as an ASE swatch library? When I try to do this, the entire library, including all the default swatches, are saved, when all I want are the particular swatches I've added to a new colour group. I want to be able to save swatch libraries for various clients, then be able to access them in InDesign and Photoshop as well. Or alternatively, is there a way to remove unwanted swatches from a swatch library once it's been saved? (Using CS6 on a Mac running 10.8.4)

Illustrator :: Convenient Way To Edit Graphic Style Libraries

Oct 14, 2013

Is there any convenient way to edit symbol, swatch or graphic style libraries? The way I do now is  quite time-consuming: I open a library I need to edit, create a new symbol, select other symbols of the opened library (so that they appeared withing the generic "Symbols" tab alongside with the new symbol), then press "Save Symbol Lybrary", select the library I've already opened and replace it with the new one  (with a new symbol added).

I would prefer just to open a user defined library, drag and drop a new symbol to it and save changes to the library. Is the latter method out there and I just don't know about it? If so, any trick to activate that method.

In trying to figure out where the swatches are I came across a forum post from adobe that mentioned they were in application support in the library.

When I go to save a new swatch library it shows the path on my mac as...

private/var/root/library/applicationsupport/adobe/adobeillustratorcs6/ en_GB/swatches

But i cannot find a way to access this folder to delet the swatch libraries...

Illustrator :: Pantone Color Changes

Jul 26, 2013

I have a series of Illustrator documents created over 2 - 3 years. They are artwork for labels of multiple sizes of the same product. It is important that the colour is consistent. In the period concerned I will have used CS5, CS5.5 and CS6.

I have just added to the range and the client came back to me saying that the "blue has changed”. Sure enough it has. When I compare, Pantone 652 on one it is darker than Pantone 652 on a newer one. Apparently it prints differently as well. When I copy and paste blue items from one document to another (either way) they change colour. In other words PMS 652 is not consistent from one document to another.

When I check the CMYK numbers on the two documents they are very different: 50/25/0/10 and 47/24/7/0.

I have read that Pantone wished to 'improve' some things, and I know I can change the colour book in CS6, or just work some projects in older Illustrator versions. But they all seem to me to be cumbersome work arounds. Surely Pantone 652 should always be Pantone 652.

Illustrator :: CS5 Changing Pantone Color At Once?

Feb 24, 2014

I created a logo in Illustrator CS5 made of several overlapping parts, all parts have the same Pantone color, but with different intensity (I'm not sure it's called intensity, is the bar, inside the Color Palette by which you can adjust the color from white to 100% of the Pantone color of your choice). What I'm looking for is a way to change the color of all the parts at once with another Pantone with a simple click, without having to manually adjust all the intensity of every single parts again. Now, when I try, all parts changes in the new Pantone color but all are at 100%. If i change only one part at a time the percentage of intensity is observed. I know that i can do it manualy, changing every single part, but i wonder if there is a faster way that i don't know.

Illustrator :: Pantone Swatches Out Of Order

May 16, 2013

Problem in AICS6 trying to find a certain Pantone color. Why Adobe, Pantone or both have never learned to count? Here is a sample of the Pantone list in the "Swatches" palette: PANTONE 133, PANTONE 1205, PANTONE 1215, etc. and it gets worse. Is there a way to tell them to go into numerical order? Why aren't they already in numerical order? That is the whole point of giving anything a number: order.

In the totally unrelated and incompatible application InDesign you at least have the option of typing in the number you want. In AI you have to scroll through the random swatches until you stumble on it. Now, they are in order. There are rules to this sort of thing just that there are rules for grammer and spelling. If Adobe claims they are in order that is the same as saying they have invented their own language and grammer. Worse, they have invented their own number system. Is there any way to make them go in numerical order using

Illustrator :: Correct Method To Add A Pantone Swatch?

Sep 13, 2012

My workplace works with both Digital and Print work and I wanted to know if how we're adding Pantone swatches is correct.

I'm using CS6 and I open the Pantone+ Swatchbook and add the Swatch from there. The Swatch is in the LAB Colour mode and I have "Use Lab values..." selected in the Spot Color Options Dialog.

My colleague, using CS5, opens her Swatches panel and selects New Swatch > inputs the CMYK Colour values from the Pantone+ printed book > selects Spot Color from the drop-down.

We're both working on the same documents, so when I open up her file, her colours look off to me. Specifically, Pantone 497 C - my brown is looking a red compared to her brown which is darker. When I open up my Swatch and change my Colour mode to CMYK, the values are completely different.

We'd like to understand which one of us is doing it wrong and which way we should go to streamline the colours to ensure that we're using the correct Pantone?

Illustrator :: Pantone Uncoated Swatches Look Washed Out

Aug 7, 2013

I'm somewhat green on the print side of things. I understand that pantone coated vs uncoated are formulated for printing on coated or uncoated papers.

why do the uncoated color swatches in the illustrator color book look so washed out? The coated swatches look very vibrant. Is this just a visual approximation of how the colors will look after absorbed into uncoated paper? They just look so dramatically different, I can't really match a rich color I'm trying to reproduce with any of the uncoated swatches (for a projecct being printed on uncoated paper stock).

Illustrator :: Possible To Change Default Look Up Library From PANTONE

Jul 8, 2013

When converting from LAB is it possible to change the default look up library from PANTONE Solid Coated to the Pantone+ Color Bridge Coated? Example: Set up a new job using all Pantone+ Color Bridge Coated. This creates all swatches as "Process Color" in CMYK Color Mode.

Client request is to have some Spot Colors.EXAMPLE: I take the "PANTONE 7408 CP" and rename it to "PANTONE 7408 C" change the color type to Spot Color and then close the window. Reopen the spot and change the Color Mode to book. All good now I have a PANTONE Solid Coated.

Client now decides to remove the Spot Color so I add the "P" back in the name and change the color mode back to CMYK.
Now the break is;

C: 2.49%, M: 25.93%, Y: 100%, K: 0%

NOT
C: 0%, M: 29%, Y: 100%, K: 0%
