May 31, 2004I've been playing around with this photo I have, I extracted a person's head and placed it in another image on someone else's body.
What's the best way to adjust the skin color on the face to match the skin tones on the other image's body to make it look natural?
I've tried using Photoshop CS's "Match Color" feature but it still doesn't look that natural.
Photoshop :: Coloring And Matching Skin Color
Sep 9, 2011I'm working with 2 pictures of people. My goal is to replace the face-parts (lips, eyes etc.) with each other.
So person 1 will get the mouth of person 2, and backwards. pretty simple, as all I have to do is match the skin color, and from now - piece of cake. (I actually said piece of cake :P )
So, what I normally use are only 2 tools: Hue/Saturation, and Color Balance.
Problem is - it's still pretty difficult to get perfect results. and beyond that, sometimes I just can't manage to get to even a normal solution. so it's very frustrating.
My question is: What are all the tools that are used to match colors?
(Until now, what I basically did is: take the slider, move left - check if better. if not: move right - check if better, if not: return to center. like this with each slider of the 2 tools I mentioned above. doesn't sound very professional, huh?)
P.S. A reference to even a bunch of tutorials and guides about coloring, would mean THE WORLD to me, as around 60% of my Photoshop are coloring and stuff like that.

Dec 5, 2011First, a slightly long winded explanation. Shooting the creative family Christmas card this year in a Mini-Cooper (original 60's one). Basically set my lighting up and then shot individual members in the car to post them together. The only snafu - my 20 month old son wasn't exactly cooperating, so the 'good' photograph I have of him is in the drivers seat, and I wanted to move him in between us.
There were a few difficulties here. First, the light changed between originally shooting my wife (windshield was clear), as skies were blue, and when I took the photo of myself nearly an hour later (cloudy skies cast a glare on the windshield. I had a black scrim set up to the side which worked, but wasn't able to knock it out all together. So i faded the clear windshield from my wife's side over to my side with the glare, but I feel that looks fairly natural (or at least good enough for the Christmas card).
The trick comes with my son - I cut him out from where he was at the drivers seat (had to do some shoddy work on his shirt where the steering wheel blocked him), and put him in between us. However, it looks like his coloring is off from what we are - and I can't quite seem to get it right. Color balance is definitely not my strong suit in PS.

Nov 20, 2012I occasionally use GIMP to burn-down parts of portraits that compete with the face. For example, bare shoulder, midriff over-light, hands over-lit.
The skin ends up looking greyish, not like less-lit skin. It works not too badly visually, as the emphasis is on the face, but fails on inspection.
I have tried the burn tool and just plain old Brightness, both on a selected area.

Photoshop :: High Pass Effect On Color?
Mar 1, 2013Does the "high pass sharpening" subdue color saturation of the images? I was creating a photo collage type of art in InDesign. I also used Photoshop to sharpen and resize each individual images.
I used High Pass sharpening with Edge Masks. After readjusting the images in photoshop I saved them with new names and relinked the new file to the InDesign. When I relinked the new image, there was a noticeable degradation of color saturation. The images looked sharper but a lot more grayer or muddish. In photoshop, I didn't change the color space.
So I wondered if the High Pass filter alters the color saturation. Here is the link to my photoshop actions that I used to create the sharpening effect. what caused the color shift in my file

Jul 2, 2012I open a .dng file which was in greyscale. Then converted it to RGB. Applied the effect Graphic Pen. Added a new layer, fill it with red, changed mode to Overylay, and when I tried merging down, or saving as a jpeg, it converts the image right back to B&W. I even tried changing my brush to red and Overlay mode, it just won't let me color the image at all. I've tried hue/saturation, and when I try to save the adjustment, it converts right back to B&W. what you get is a Gothic type washed out effect, when you lower the number of colors, when saving a .gif . The overall aim is to have a .gif that starts at 16 colors and at the end turns into 256 colors. How can I achieve this effect.

Jun 16, 2012Why am I losing the effect/color when going from duotone, tritone, etc. to rgb? Not using spot color, just using the picker to select the colors.
The when I try to change modes to RGB so I can save as a jpg it goes all b&w. Never had this issue before. This seems to happen only when I use the artistic filter graphic pen. I go to graphic pen use it, then grayscale, then duotone, then rgb.
