View 1 RepliesI have used the same basic skin retouching method for hundreds of pictures. Usually I end up with very nice, natural looking skin. Today, the same technique is turning the skin gray on any picture I attempt to use it on. I cannot figure out why. Essentially, I copy the background layer. I do my spot healing on this layer.
When I'm through, I make 3 more layers. On the first, I use the Median filter. On the second, I use a high pass filter. Then on the 3rd, I add I layer mask, painting in black, and go over the skin. It is always gray on the mask. I then go back and reduce the opacity of the high pass and median layers. Usually I end up with smoother, but natural skin and it's normal color. Today, every time I attempt to do this, the skin stays a muted gray. I cannot figure out why. what might be different that I'm not noticing?
What way would work the best for changing skin from white to black in a photo.
I need to do it for a school project.
(I have Photoshop CS3)

Could I have a description of how to match the skin color of the head to the boxer's skin color?
the key functionality lost is the ability to use the previous layer mask for a new layer
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using PSE 11 and need a hint as to how to duplicate the picture layer and then add a layer mask. Still trying to figure this thing out.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to copy a mask from one layer to a new layer in Elements 11. I can do this in CS3 by using alt and dragging to the new layer. It doesn't work in Elements 11. Is this feature unavailable in elements 11 or is there a different command? there doesn't seem to be much point in spending all that time making a complex layer amsk and then being unable to use it on another layer.
I have to give a tutorial on layer masks using both CS3 and elements at the Camera Club!
I am using quickmask in removing redeye and since the mask color and the red of the eye are almost identical it seems that changing the masking color to something like lime green.
View 6 Replies View RelatedSometimes it appears that the white/black color combination that is automatically selected in layer mask editing may override the selected color combination outside of layer mask editing.
Example:
1) Open Photoshop.
2) Select two colors: white/white.
3) Create two blank documents, each with an empty Layer 1.
4) In one document, add a layer mask to Layer 1. The colors should have been automatically switched to black/white as the layer mask is selected.
5) In this document, use the gradient tool to fill the layer mask with black/white.
6) Switch to the other document, and notice that the color selection is again white/white.
7) In this other document, use the gradient tool to fill Layer 1. Notice that the layer is filled with black/white instead of white/white as selected.
Why can't I add a layer mask to a new layer in an image? I've done it before, but now it doesn't work.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've just started using PS Elements 10 again after not having used it for some time, and I've forgotten a few things. When I paste an image which I've selected from another image (image A) into a layer mask for image B, the image A selection appears in black and white. Also, is there a quick way to return PS Elements 10 to its default settings?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI was experimenting with using multileaders today and changing their styles. What I can't work out is how do I change the color of the background mask? All I could do was turn on and off the 'background', not change the color of it.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have 2 layers and I want to mask one through the other. I've attached a png showing what I want. I tried to attach an .xcf file, but it won't do it, which seems strange for a gimp forum. Anyway, one layer is the text (black outline) and one layer is a colorful background. In the xcf, the background layer is entirely filled with the colorful stuff, but I want it to only show through the interior of the letters (as shown in the png).

How do I do this in CS4?
View 9 Replies View RelatedSomehow I've turned off the color selection so that I don't have a color when I select a part of a drawing on a layer. The drawing area stays black whether I have selected it or not and I don't know how to turn back on the color.
how I can turn on the color again so that when I select a line it changes from black to red or magenta or whatever?
My subject line pretty much sums up what I want to ask.
The thing is I've learned how to do both of them, but every textbook exercise I've done regarding one I found out that I can pull off with the other too.
Are they simply two different mechanisms for doing the same thing?
I made a layer, then I added an ellipse to it then I created a duplicate but I want to move this one somewhere else but change the color.
I tried using the tool that you get when you press 'w' and selected the shape but then how do I change the color? Is this the correct approach to take at all?
I should say is there a tool that can change the color of the layer quickly? So if I open photoshop, then I want the entire layer to be a color what should I do?
I did Apple - A to select All, Edit...Fill and picked a color.
Why won't the color picker change my font color? It has worked for months and today it won't.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn photoshop elements 11, in a photo collage, in graphic tab, how do i change the background to a color in the color wheel?
Same thing for the graphics, i only have 6 choices, i want to add a graphic stored on my pc or other ones in the program.
In photoshop elements 11, in a photo book, page 2 and 3 are stored as one image, and have to have the same background color, and layout, how do i change that?
I need a lisp can change all elements in block to layer 0 except layer defpoint but still keep linetype, color as it is.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI know you are all going to say "it depends on the lighting" or "there are different skin tones", but I just need a simple starting formula, of which I can edit to work with the lighting. I just need a simple, generic caucasian skin color "Color Balance" formula, which can be applied to a monochromatic image.

My Steps:
File>New Layer> OK with parameters
New Layer is created.
I use the Rectangle to cover transparent layer. It fills the color with Grey. The color that is selected in the little box at the bottom of my tool bar.I go to change the color and want to fill the color or change it to say Blue... It won't. What step am I missing to do such an easy thing?

Once I use a Clipping Mask on a layer is the entire document covered in a mask?
And/or is all the artwork from then on inside the mask?
I've read about how to add and how to remove art from a mask. I've read about how to make and release and lots of other things.
So, then I went and found a lesson that contained the use of a Clipping Mask.
I am suppose to Select the main shape and "just" copy it and move it down (doesn't say rather to Paste in front or back but I assumed in back ~ not that it has mattered thus far)
However, while making the main shape I used Gradient Mesh and used an Offset to create a "replica" and so when I go to Select the main shape the mesh is selected and so when I Paste (in back ~ seems most logical) and then move it down the details such as the colors of the Gradient and other such things are visible in front ~ ??
So, I have been trying to abate my problem in lots of different ways.
I have tried using the Pen tool to draw behind the main shape, I've tried making a New Layer and placing it above and below and inbetween the main shape layer, I've tried adding the artwork to the Mask ... I've tried everything I can think of and I've been through many an article in the manual and FAQ's to no avail.
I suppose, what I think I need to know ... is, how ... how on earth do I draw behind this main shape? Am I not able to do it because I am not getting behind the Mask?
I just joined the forum looking for some help! I'm working with PS Elements 2 trying to create a simple collage. I've opened and dragged a second photo onto my background photo. I'm trying to have the second photo blend/go from totally transparent on the left, with increasing opacity unit it is fully solid on the right.
The PS books I have says to select the "layer mask icon" in the layer's palette...then use the black/white gradient tool to get this effect. The problem is I can't find the "layer mask" option/icon...and when I use the black/white gradient tool, my entire second photo simply goes from black to white in a gradient format! I don't want the black & white colors..I want the actual photo to go from solid to totally transparent.
how to change the colour of the selected layer in the layers pallete? It's quite annoying the way it is (Dull grey/blue) and sometimes hard to see what layer's selected?
I prefer the brighter blue on my other computer!
How can i easy change the layer colors of all elements in a block and also the blocks in that block witout exploding everything ten times. I wish Autodesk create a button so if you select a block and use the button i had a choice to
select a layer or color. Looks so simple.
* setbylayer is not what i mean
* also don't want to use xrefs
