Photoshop :: CS3 Colors Suddenly Muted Compared To CS4
Aug 20, 2012
URL>...I suddenly have an odd problem that I originally thought was monitor-related. I'm using a MacPro, 10.6.8, with a Mac 24"HD monitor for palettes and an NEC PA241W for color. Both monitors were calibrated last week.
I have CS4, but I work in CS3 simply because I like the old interface better. I opened a file I was working on Friday onto the NEC screen and now all of the colors, especially the reds, are muted/shifted to orange. It looks fine on the Mac monitor. It was immediately apparent because the shot is of a red Ferrari that now looks brick-orange. I recalibrated the NEC but no luck. Called NEC and we ran every possible test and scenario, still no good. we both thought to load the same file into CS4 and bingo...it looks fine! I check every color setting, the proof setup and the profile between both versions and they're the same. So what is making the CS3 version suddenly look off?!! The only thing I can think of is that there must be some setting in CS3 that got overwritten/corrupted/changed between Friday and today that is now preventing the NEC monitor to see some kind of profile that the Mac monitor sees.

First off I should note that I have an extra monitor connected to my MBP.
So I was processing a RAW image on the mac books monitor and it was looking great.
When I click open image it opened on the other monitor and the colors seemed muted...
Now heres the weird part.......when I click and bring the image to the MBP monitor the colors remain muted.......until I let got of the mouse button. Then they return back to vibrant colors. When I click and drag on the window and drag it from the MBP monitor back to my external monitor, the colors remian vibrant until I let go of the mouse button. Then they become muted again.

I have been using Photoshop for years, and as far as color management, everything has always been pretty true to what i see on my monitor. Recently however, pictures look good in Photoshop, but when i upload them to the internet, or print them the colors are muted and have a gray cast to them. I have tried using different color proof settings based on the labs I use to print, but it always ends up the same.
I have used both sRGB and AdobeRGB on my camera, both have the same result. I don't know what changed, if I changed a setting inadvertently.

Everytime I select a color in Illustrator it has the "Out of gamut" warning and the color I want appears darker and different then how It looks in the preview of color picker. It is making the colors of my design really ugly. This problem also seems to be happening when I select a color in Indesign, but I'm not sure if this is caused by the same thing.

I bought a macbook pro and the student suite about 3 months ago. They work fine together (better than the couple windows-adobe), but i've got a problem. Today colors of my macbook suddenly changes when i create a new web-profile file on Illustrator. I inspect my mac wtih the utility colorsync, and this was the result:
/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Color/Profiles/RedBlueYelllow.icc

how to get the same look as an image he linked to. On the flickr Photoshop Support group, similar questions are asked several times a week, all looking for that distressed yellow tint affect so beloved by wedding photographers nowadays. It drives me crazy, and not just with how often it was asked, but why so many people would want to ruin a decent photograph.

Is there a certain effect or technique that makes the colors in the photo so vibrant while keeping the background soft and dull?

I'm using the 30-day trial version of Corel Videostudio Pro X5.
The problem is that all the videos (all files are MPEG-4) I add to the library are muted, I can't hear anything from the audio when I play it. It's the same problem when I add the clip to the timeline, it shows that the clip is normal & the audio should be fine but nothing can be heard. I've tried purposely muting it & then unmuting, I've also tried splitting audio, I've tried all possible audio settings I've found in the program but everything I've tried has no effect. I've checked a million times that the audio on my computer is on, & the videofiles play normally with perfect audio on every media player I have, but I can't hear anything in the editing software.
Is there a setting that makes the files automatically mute & I haven't noticed it, or doesn't Corel Videostudio just support MPEG-4, or is this like a weird glitch in the trial version?

I am currently trying out Corel VideoStudio Pro X4,when i insert different clips into the timeline, as the project plays the audio doesn't start instantly, and there's almost like a 1sec delay before the audio appears.
I seen that there was audio fade in/out options, which can be set to 1-999 (but no 0)

I have a problem with Corel Video Studio Pro X4, I have a couple of short clips (avi format), put together in a project. Most of them I want to use muted, for the exception of 1 clip, with this one I need the audio. Only... when I play the whole bunch in project mode, all of my clips are automatically muted, also the one where I don't want it to be. It's getting quite annoying, I'm new to the program and can not find a solution for this problem. I tried to unmute the clip, but no luck. When I play the clip separately in clip mode, the audio is fine..

I installed Photoshop Extended CS4 64bit. I opened a 24mb PSD file, there is some text with some outer glow when I move it I get redraw. CS4 just feels sluggish compared to CS3. My system is not that bad, e6600, 4GB, 8800GTS 640, Vista Home Premium x64.
I have updated to the latest drivers for my GPU. I am considering just a reformat and install.

I have a wide format scanner, an HP Designjet 4200(815mfp), that can save scans in .pdf format. When I click on the properties tab of one of these .pdf's, this is the info: Application: CTX PDF Producer: PDFlib 4.0.3(Win32) PDF Version: 1.3. I am using Photoshop 6.01(6.0 with patch installed, provided by Adobe as ps601up.exe) running under Windows 2000.
When I open one of these .pdf files with Photoshop a message appears at the bottom of the screen while the file loads, "rasterizing file" as the file loads. The image that then appears on the pc's monitor is greatly degraded from the scanned image, lines and text are jagged and blurry; and even if I make no edits whatsoever and print it immediately from Photoshop the quality of the printed image is horrible, as if the resolution has vastly declined. If I open the same .pdf file with Reader, the image appears in the high quality that it ought to, and Reader prints it in high quality as well. I am definitely in Photoshop not Imageready when this happens, and it is not affected by any change I make to the resolution in the "Rasterize Generic PDF Format" box that appears whenever I first open one of these files.

I use the hand tool to "slide" and image under CS3, the image movement is very smooth and without a glitch. If I use the same hand tool under CS4, the image movement is jumpy and erratic. There does not seem to be any "use hardware acceleration" option as is available in bridge.
I find this makes it rather difficult to move the image quickly and smoothly while I edit a large image looking for flaws (for example, dust spots on scanned negatives).

I have an Imac running Maverick and an Epson 3880. I have calibrated my monitor, my printer and my paper with a ColorMunki. I use ProPhoto for all apps. All settings the same in both PS and LR.
If I print an image in LR 5 and then export the same image to PS and print it (all settings the same), the PS image is almost spot on. The LR5 image is very bad, being much darker and bluer.

I used many clips capture from a Sony HD Camorder. Everything's working fine in Video Studio when I do a preview of my project.
My problem is with the exported file ; on some clip, when the clip begin the sound is muted for about 7-8 seconds, After that, the sound come back. I tried to slip the sound from the clip, remove the transition, nothing work.
I updated all the drivers...I tried on an other computer...still the problem.

Will 32GB RAM have noticeable benefit compared to 16GB? Reason I'm asking is that I've just built a new PC: 3770K, 32GB RAM, SSD for OS and programs, SSD for scratch, Caviar Black for storage, etc but unfortunately Windows 7 Home Premium only allows 16GB RAM! I have Windows 8 Pro which I could install giving me access to full 32GB but only really want to do this if 32GB will offer tangible benefit to Photoshop.
Would love to hear from those that actually have upgraded from 16GB to 32GB.

have a company logo on disk in eps format. It's been used on my website and business cards. I can open the eps file in Word and it's one shade of green, then I compare it to my site and that another.
When I open the eps file in Photoshop, it's yet another shade but this time really washed out. All I want is the web coloured version in a bigger jpg format so I can use in Word docs; copying from the website and enlarging results in too blurry a view.

Why is the pixel ratio of a project in illustrator different than that of the same pixel ratio of a project in Photoshop? Example: A project can in Illustrator can have an artboard of 950px X 950px and be 12in and in Photoshop that same pixel ratio will be 4 3/4in.

I have a vector map which was brought from iStock and changed the color on it. The edited version is in CMYK format and I need both a CMYK version for print and RGB for screen.
The map needs to be used in PowerPoint and I have tried to zoom in quite far onto a specific country. I found that when zooming the CMYK map was absolutely fine, but I needed to use the RGB version. When I inserted the RGB the quality was significantly poorer than the CMYK one (see maps below) and I can't work out why!
Unfortunately, the map needs to be in jpeg or png format for PowerPoint, as it won't support EPS's or PDF's. I converted the map to png, which was slightly better but still not as good as the CMYK version.
Both the RGB and CMYK maps are exactly the same size (document size, file size, dpi etc). I changed the colour profile when converting to RGB (File -> Document Colour Modes -> RGB), when exporting it to JPEG I ensured that RGB was selected. I just cannot work out why the CMYK is perfect and RGB isn't and I've never had this issue before!

why when I import into Lightroom 3, why my photo's are duller and greyer than when I import them into iPhoto or Aperature or Capture NX? I'm just importing from my SD card in raw format. On my camera (Nikon D60) and on all the other programs the photo looks how I took the picture. Only in Lighroom, upon import it seems to change the color.

My rendred ProRes 444 files look flat when viewed in Quicktime compared with the timelines in both DaVinci and Premiere. The footage went from a Canon 5DIII 14bit raw (ML Hack) –>CinemaDNG –>DaVinci Resolve –>ProRes 444 –>Premiere –>ProRes 444 export
The rendered ProRes files from both DaVinci and Premiere look flat when viewed in Quicktime (or the finder) so assume this is a Mac OSX or Quicktime issue.

I have just upgraded from X3 to X5. In X3 when I would type some text I would then scroll through the different fonts and see which one I wanted to use. This was really quick. I simply cursored down through the list. X5 is very slow in changing from one font to the next. I'm having to match and select fonts in X3 and then paste them into X5 and continue my artwork.

I'm trying out X4, and I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, but it seems like the canvas size on X4 at any resolution is much smaller than in X3, e.g., at 200 pixels/inch, X4 allows 50"x50", while X3 allows 164x164". Similarly at 150 pixels/inch, X3 allows 218", while X4 allows approximately 67". Given the fact that X4 is supposed to provide access to more memory, and uses a scratch pad, this does not make sense to me-

I have saved a psd file as jpg using File -> Save as.
Also tried: File -> Save for web.
When I look at the newly saved jpg file in photoshop the colors are great.
When I look at the same jpg file in Firefox or Internet explorer the file look bleached (a lot lighter in color).
How do I save the image for view on web, and then make sure the colors match more closely to the original file?
To manually correct for the missing colors would be a lot of work, and I hope there is an automated way of doing this?
Using Photoshop 5.5.
Both images viewed on same computer in same light.

I recently installed CS5 on my laptop after first removing it from my previous machine. All licences were validated so no problems there. Now when using paint bucket in Photoshop, the colors that I select in the color picker are not the colors that result when I use the paint bucket.
If I create a new black canvas then the colors selected in color picker work with paint bucket. But if I attempt to recolor the background in an existing image that I import into Photoshop, I get the mismatch with colors when I use paint bucket. My method for selecting colors is the same in each case, I select 'set foreground color' and set the color using html values entry at the bottom of the panel.

Just wanted to print a new photo and realized that the colors in print preview do not match the colors in soft proofing. In both cases I selected the same icc profile and rendering method. The print colors matched the colors in print preview. I never had a problem so far. All new prints will be checked with soft proofing and adjusted when necessary. I never paid attention to the color rendition in print preview and all prints perfectly matched the colors from the soft proofing. I was surprised when my print came out of the printer and the colors weren't matching the soft proofing colors, but that of the print preview.
I don't understand why Photoshop renders the colors differently in the first place. See attached screenshot for the difference in the blue/cyan colors. I don't care if the print view colors will match the print, but I do care when soft proofing is not working.
