Premiere Pro :: ProRes Renders Look Flat Compared To Timeline

Mar 10, 2014

My rendred ProRes 444 files look flat when viewed in Quicktime compared with the timelines in both DaVinci and Premiere. The footage went from a Canon 5DIII 14bit raw (ML Hack) –>CinemaDNG –>DaVinci Resolve –>ProRes 444 –>Premiere –>ProRes 444 export

The rendered ProRes files  from both DaVinci and Premiere look flat when viewed in Quicktime (or the finder) so assume this is a Mac OSX or Quicktime issue.

Premiere Pro :: Yellow Preview Bar With ProRes Clips?

Feb 17, 2014

Even though I've made sure that my sequence settings are exactly matching my clip settings (ProRes4444 or 422HQ) I'm getting a yellow bar over my sequence.

I'm working on a 2012 Mac Pro running OS 10.7.5.  I downloaded Premiere Pro CC earlier today; I thought I'd play around with it to see how it compares to FCP7.  Most of my NLE usage is very simple, just assembling sections of motion graphics and 3D animations rendered out of After Effects in the ProRes 4444 codec.

The "New Sequence from Clip" function isn't behaving as I'd expect.  The comparable feature in FCP creates a sequence that matches all aspects of the selected clip (size, framerate, codec, etc.).  The Premiere implementation appears to only match the sequence size and framerate to the selected clip.

If I create a new sequence from a ProRes clip, or tell the sequence to match the clip, I'd expect that clip to be sitting in my timeline with no bar of any color.  But I get a yellow bar.  When I go to Sequence Settings I see that the editing mode is Arri Camera, and the Video Preview is greyed out on an MPEG format.  I have to go to Custom and manually select Quicktime, then specifiy the matching ProRes codec.  Shouldn't those wrapper and codec settings be matched automatically too when I've specified that function?

That said, if I go in and manually match the codec settings to my clip I still get the yellow bar.   If I select another sequence and click back on the new sequence the yellow bar is gone.

I'm assuming that this yellow bar issue is a display error of some sort, because if I export the sequence with "Match Sequence Settings" selected the export happens very quickly as I would expect with a Smart Render-compatible sequence.

Premiere Pro :: Importing ProRes File - Only The Audio Shows Up - Not The Video?

Jan 30, 2014

I have a several dozen shots, Quicktime ProRes 422 HQ.  When I try to import them into Premiere CS6 all the arrives in the bin is the audio of the clips.  The video has been stripped.  But if I play the clips outside Premiere - just double click them open and play them with Windows Media Player, they play fine.

I'm not having trouble with any other formats.

Just the ProRes.  And I must have the necessary Quicktime ProRes plug-in installed, as the individual clips open and play fine.

Premiere Pro :: CC - Media Encoder Audio Bad Renders

Jan 22, 2014

when I export a timeline to Media Encoder queue, the video renders out with no audio.I have not found a repeatable way to replicate this, but when it happens, it really blows up my workflow.

Typically I: Import a ProRes 1080 clip into a fresh timeline, and only trim down the ends. Audio and Video playback great in premiere. I then, without changing anything, export to media encoder queue in h.264 1080p OR 720p (vimeo preset).

The queue runs and bang, video file with no audio.

My extended workflow is as such - once the h.264 file has arrived in the folder (it is a watchfolder), there are presets set to create OTHER Files - wav for CD, mp3 for podcast, DVD for distro, mp4 for podcast. So, as you can see, it snowballs into a trainwreck. I would also automate/schedule the podcast postings, but obviously I can't rely on media encoder/premiere to do it's job.

I even got to point to where I reboot the machine right before each original capture begins, but the error is always in the first render out of premiere.I dropped the capture into a timeline, exported as usual, and got a bad render. Did it again, this time moving the audio down a track. Still a bad render. Rebooted the Mac, tried it all again, and finally got a working render. This is the first time it has happened TWICE in a row, and I'm getting tired of it, as these renders are fairly long.

Premiere Pro :: Why Is DVD One Size In Encore But Cut Off On Flat Screens

Dec 1, 2013

My title shows fine in the Premiere timeline, fine in a burned H264, fine in Encore when I scrub, fine in Encore when I play the preview BUT when I burn a dvd and play the burned dvd in dvd players the title is cut off (all four sides are cropped off).

BUT when I play the dvd with Windows Media Player on the computer, the title is fine on the computer monitor.

My flat screen has four aspects: Normal, Zoom, Wide and Cinema. I am using Normal. The other three settings crop it much more harshly.

Premiere Pro :: Synchronize Not Available In Timeline?

Feb 19, 2014

I have successfully used the "merge clips" feature so I know that the system is capable of syncing audio + video tracks.

HOWEVER the "Syncronize" feature will not work for me in the timeline. For example I drop in one .R3d file and one audio file from an external recorder. I select them all and right click to bring up the menu and "Syncronize" is greyed out and not available.

I've watched several tutorials where people bring multiple clips into and sync them using this method.

I'm guessing that there is a setting or a default somewhere that is not allowing this "sync" to be applied

Premiere Pro :: +/- Has Appeared On Clips In Timeline

Dec 9, 2013

I'm working on a Premiere Pro CC project with another editor.  On his latest version, some of the clips on the timeline have a "+/-" or  "+2" or "-2" on them.  He's not sure how that happened, and I've not seen it before.  What do those mean, and how do I get rid of them?  I've tried Googling, but search engines don't respond well to "+/-".

A bug in the last update (02-19-2014)?

Premiere Pro :: Go To CLIP Marker In Timeline?

Mar 5, 2014

In CS6, is it possible to navigate between clip markers in the timeline.

I'm talking about markers placed on actual clips, not markers placed on the sequence timeline.

I'd like to have a shortcut to navigate between clip markers but that shortcut seems to only work on markers placed on the sequences timeline, not on the clip.

Yes, you can open the clip in the source monitor, then jump to clip markers for that one clip but that's not what I'm after.

I want to mark my clips in the source monitor, bring all those clips to one timeline, then navigate between the markers placed on the actual clip.

If you double-click on a clip in a Timeline it will open in the Source Monitor.

That feature is sometimes confusing, because if you do it by accident and think that you are viewing your source clip and set a new Mark In after the original Out point, the clip will disappear from the Timeline.

Is there a good reason for that feature or is it a bug?

It has grey diagonal lines and no audio or visual, then all of a sudden it kicks back in? It is visible in the preview window however, so it isnt corrupt or anything

If i drag the clip shorter, the whole program then goes whack and crashes. There should be audio and visual in the grey diagonal area, as there is subtitles like shown.

Premiere Pro :: How To Prevent Timeline Marker Ripple

Feb 19, 2014

Is it possible to prevent timeline markers from responding to a ripple delete?  On a film project it's not an issue, but when I do broadcast work, a lot of times I need to hit specfic moments in time, like 28:30 for a half hour show.  I'll add a timeline comment mark to that point in time, but later, due to a lot or ripple deleting, that marker has shifted drastically.  Right now the only work around I found is to add an ajustment later on an unused track and lock the track.  But this gets to be a pain if I need multiple markers.

In the project panel there are several different ways to search through all of your media to find specific clips. Is there anything similar for the timeline?

For example - I have a 30 minute sequence with 7 tracks of dialogue. Each clip of dialogue is labeled with a line number from a script. When a producer comes over and asks "Can you quickly go to line 416?"...I'd like to be able to quickly do that. Avid has a function where you can perform a find in the timeline for specific file names.

Premiere Pro :: Audio Dropping Out During Playback In Timeline

Apr 30, 2013

I've listed my setup below and then have stated the issue I'm experiencing.

27-inch, Mid 2011 iMac
3.4 GHz Intel Core i7
16GB 1333 MHz DDR3
AMD Radeon HD 6970 1024MB
Running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63)

Currently working off of a portable 1TB G-Technology G-DRIVE via FW800.
Working in Premiere Pro CS6 Version 6.0.2
Editing in a sequence with settings:
1920 x 1080 23.976fps (also tried in a 29.97fps timeline with same issue)
Working with footage that is 23.98fps
Working with a combination of ProRes 422 (LT) and native H.264 Quicktime files strait from a 5D Mark 3.

The issue I'm having is during playback the audio will competely drop out. The video will continue playing on just fine but the audio drops completely out. All audio levels drop as well in the audio mixer meters so it truly is losing all communication with my audio layers in the timeline.

I read in other forums to go into Finder and delete out the .caf files, re open Premiere Pro, wait for them to be recreated then carry on. I tried this approach with no luck. Deleting the .caf did not change anything. Audio is still dropping out as I try to play through my timeline. The only way to get the audio back is to pause then press play again. I have 5 total channels of audio with only 2 of those channel active.

This is incredibly frustrating have to export out a video just to be able to watch it through.

Premiere Pro :: Mark A Clip As Flagged On Timeline

Jan 19, 2014

Sometimes when working on a timeline, I come across a clip that needs to be reshot or otherwise modified.

Now I could use a marker but markers don't stick to clips and don't have any visible flyouts like in Vegas, making labeling rather pointless.

So the next idea would be to change the color of the clip on the timeline so it is 'at-a-glance' visible that it needs to be dealt with before the sequence is pumped out.

Kind of like a highlighter in a text document.

Before submitting it to wishlist, I'm interested in hearing thoughts of other users.

Premiere Pro :: Modify Audio Channels From The Timeline In CC.1?

Jun 30, 2013

Why have we never been able to modify audio channels once a clip is added to a sequence?  I'm guessing there's a good reason Adobe has never had this feature.  The lack of this feature is explicitly mentioned a few times in the audio section of the Premiere Pro CC manual, as if it's a benefit NOT to have it.  But the benefit is entirely lost on me.

In my workflow, I synchronize my double-system video and audio before anything else.  I do this in PluralEyes (and unfortunately I'll have to keep doing it this way, until PPr's sync on sound feature gets fixed—for me it's never worked).

Once PluralEyes has synched hours of footage and audio and placed it on a PLURALEYES GENERATED sequence, I import that sequence into Premiere.  Note:  Since I haven't gone through the step of creating a blank New Sequence, I don't get the opportunity to setup my audio channels the way I'd like in my sequence (i.e. Stereo recordings should occupy ONE track, not two.  Typically these tracks come from a camcorder and are used for reference sound, or ambient noise at best, so I don't need them taking up precious real estate in my sequence).

Since PluralEyes doesn't merge my clips for me (or rather I don't want it to since I'm usually doing multi-cam sequences where I want to keep all 14, or so, tracks of audio), I have to go through the clips one by one and do a Merge Clip action once I've adjusted any minor sync issues, or determined which tracks I actually want to keep.  But, and here's the key, at this stage I'm not yet 100% certain whether I'll use the nat sound or the wireless mic sound (separate audio recorder, etc).  Furthermore, I don't really want to think about that at this point.  After I've spent a few mind-numbing hours just ingesting files, sync and merges, I want to jump into the edit as soon as possible, before I lose all will to finish this edit.  If I modify my audio channels right now, I'll lose the ability to make some creative decisions later on.

I'd like to start whacking out an assembly edit.  And then after I have a rough program, I can start looking at which audio tracks (nat or double-system) I like better in each circumstance.  This is where I become stumped that at this stage, I'm locked into whatever audio channels I've setup (or not) in the earliest stage of the edit, back before any media was actually on the timeline!  It's at this stage, and usually only at this stage that I want to start Modifying Channels—FROM THE TIMELINE!

Feature Summary:  Right-click on any clip, (master clip, sub-clip, merged, nested or otherwise) in the timeline and choose Modify > Audio Channels.

Dec 1, 2013

I am having an issue with Premiere 6.0 that I can't seem to solve. Some audio clips are showing up in red in the timeline and they just don't work at all. Here is how this went down.

I had to format my computer due to Windows related troubles and so I reinstalled the OS, installed all of my Adobe software and dropped the files back into their original locations. When I fired up premiere and opened the project, everything was looking fine and dandy until certain clips showed up in red and just didn't work. The only clips that were affected were audio tracks from AVI files that I separated from the video. They are not missing , premiere knows where they are and if I drag one into the timeline it will work just fine.
