VideoStudio :: Speed Up Editing Process With Solid-state Drive?

Oct 4, 2012

if this has come up before, but can I expect an improvement in rendering speed or get other performance improvements by adding a solid-state drive (SSD)? Will an SSD speed up making proxies or make the editing process faster/smoother in general?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Solid State Drive

Jul 25, 2012

I recently obtained a new laptop with a Solid State Drive and, holy smokes, it's seems at least twice as fast as another laptop with comparable specs like RAM and processor. I used a stopwatch. It was incredible.

Things like opening the program, opening drawings and re-loading Xref's are all way way way faster than without the SSD.

To those of you who have added SSD, are you seeing the same boost? This appears to be an easy way for Civil 3D users to increase speed tremendously, without purchasing a whole new system.

Photoshop :: External Solid State Drive For Scratch Disk?

Jul 17, 2012

After doing everything i can find to optimize my hardware/software for doing 3D animation in Ps Ext CS6. I still cannot render an animation to video using the Ray Traced Final setting. (Ray Traced Draft, no problem.) The last time I tried (after repairing disk permissions), at least Ps did not crash and give me the same old crash report (Exception Type:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV) Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x00000007a0020000). This time I just got an error msg that my request could not be completed. (Progress?) Checking Activity Monitor, I could see that my available RAM, which was 13 GB when I started the render was now less than 1 GB (761 MB).

So, I have come to the conclusion that my 16 GB of RAM and 300 GB available for virtual memory on my HD is not enough for rendering the type of 3D animation I am trying to do. Would you agree? Also, I have read it is not good to use the same HD your program is installed on for a scratch disk, so I am considering getting an external solid state drive to use as a scratch disk.

VideoStudio :: 2 Hard Drives - Different Speeds

Nov 29, 2010

Situation: You have two hard drives - you intend to have programs reside on one and data on the other. All things being equal - one drive spins faster than the other. i.e. 7200 Rpm vs 5200 rpm vs 10,000 rpm

Question: Would you place the X3 program on the faster drive and the data on the slower drive OR visa versa. I am thinking (dangerous) the data (smart proxy files, saved projects and video files) should be on the faster drive since the "program" probably doesn't use the program drive much and uses more CPU / memory. I have two hard drives - one is faster than the other - which drive should I put the X3 program on and which should I put the data on?[/b][/size]

VideoStudio :: Get Project Files Back To X2 State?

Aug 13, 2012

crashes in VSX2 (and all previous versions for that matter). At Corel's suggestion I installed the trial version of X5. In the meantime, I had my X2 working a lot better.

But I thought I'd take a look at X5 and see how it looked, since I'd gone to all the trouble of installing it. In order to try it out, I opened some of my projects and played with them a bit. I didn't mean to save them, but apparently I must have because now I can no longer open them in X2. Windows explorer thinks they are X2 project files, but when I try to open them in X2 nothing comes up. Then I try to open them in X5, and sure enough there they are. Project properties confirms they are now X5 project files. I tried to do a save as, but the only options are X5, X4 and X3. No choice for X2.

This is a problem because I haven't decided if I want to buy X5 or not. If I do, fine, but I don't want to be forced into it just so I can work on my old projects. Is there any way to convert them back to a format that X2 will open?

mouseout:var mySymbolObject = sym.getSymbol("Guns_Nav")

VideoStudio :: Best Format For Reediting

Dec 3, 2011

I need to make a few videos and then use those to make another and then use that to make yet another.

Is there a best (or better) format (avi, wmv, mpeg, flv, etc) for doing this to have the least loss due to the reuse or is there some trick to avoid loss (other than mastering everything in one project from the originals)?

VideoStudio :: Best Format For Editing

Apr 24, 2013

My main camera saves AVHCD files at 29.975 fps, secondary camera saves mov files at 25 fps, and third camera saves mpeg-4 at 30 fps.

I often wonder if I should just convert all the source clips from all three to one single format for editing, as perhaps it would be easier to ensure the audio and video stays in sync, and it just seems the right way to work.

What would the optimum format be for me if I started doing this? HDV? Actually I want two answers - best compressed format, and best uncompressed format.

VideoStudio :: Pro X5 - Video Format For Watching On PC

Feb 4, 2013

I've been creating video files in Pro X5 to upload to Vimeo. They are fine but I wondered if I could create a better quality format to watch on my laptop e.g. in terms of Kbps etc. The files are:

MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 1280 x 720, 25 fps
Frame-based
H.264 Main Profile Video: 5000 Kbps
44100 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 128 Kbps

They are created from source files which are:
PAL (25 fps)
Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 16:9, 25 fps
Lower Field First
Matrox DV/DVCAM -- type 2
PCM, 48.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo

What would be the best format quality for a laptop? I tried 20,000 Kbps and 256 Kbps sound for the heck of it but the laptop struggles to play them.

VideoStudio :: File Format Mismatch - JPG Only?

Sep 29, 2013

I used to own Ulead Video X2 and after consulting many times with Ken Berry I was successful in some important projects. I now have purchased VideoStudio X6 with the hopes of it performing well right out of the box. No such luck. I have installed in on my HP work laptop thinking it's much more powerful than my home PC, but in trying to create my first project, I am not able to simply import a jpg to do a slide show with music. It gives the error "Unable to open file [xxx....xxxx...jpg]. ! File format mismatch [16803:1:3]"

I have of course scoured the web and have seen some other users struggling with the same error. So far all I've seen is that it may be the video card or Update to the Graphics board driver. I'm not too techy though I work at HP...and am really nervous about altering any updates on my work laptop. I haven't yet tried any updates or patches thinking that if I just got this, shouldn't it be the latest? I was successful in importing video from an iPhone and I've been successful with mp3 audio files as well, but the jpg's just aren't working. I even tried converting the jpg files to pdf format - but that's not supported I see as an importable file.

I have also noted that if I try to view the sample pictures from the library, it tells me "Original file [C:program filescorelcorel videostudio pro X4samplesimagexxxxxJPG] doesn't exist. I am able to view the sample video clips. But when looking at where Corel was saved on my system, it didn't default to "Program Files" which I thought is what it stated upon installation, but it put it in "Program Files (x86)" So I don't even know if I can relink to fix that. Even if I do, that doesn't solve my jpg fundamental problem. I hate to sound like a whiner, but I'm really discouraged and hope the fix is easy after spending so much for a reliable Video SW program. My wife's best friend passed away and I've promised a tribute slide show for her wake to be completed in the next 2 weeks.
