Photoshop :: Automobile Glamor Retouching / Enhancing
Jan 13, 2012
We all know the illustration in the glossy car brochure has been enhanced - before Pshop days it was done by film retouches. I admire that work and would like to achieve similar results - making my car photos more like 'glamor' shots or 'studio' shots, starting with pictures of my own vintage car a 1936 Ford.
So far I've struck out on searching the web for techniques specific to this task, probably because I'm not using the best search terms. Automobile glamor retouching, or vehicle retouching was no luck.
Is there a specific name for this kind of retouching/enhancing/studio look? If I had a clue as to whether it's a recognizable trade or specific job I might be able to follow that lead.
Understand, i'm not asking you to do the work, just point me in the right direction.OTOH, if you do know of a site devoted to this I'd be very interested. I do remember completing a lesson in Scott Kelby's earlier 7 point book, where an automobile shot was improved, and that's been useful.

I am almost sold on getting Xara. But I know MOST of what I will be doing is making people's faces look better. Are there easy tools for enhancing skin and in general enhancing portraits? are there videos?

I have captured a still image using premiere pro 2. When I open the image in photoshop cs2 the image is grainy and has the interlaced lines.
So how do you make this image as clear as possible and get rid of the grains and lines?
I have tried FILTER>VIDEO>DE INTERLACE options but nothing seems to work.
I have saved the image from premiere as a bmp file.

Im working as a photo analyst for a scientific research project that is estimating sardine populations off the coast of north america. In a nutshell me and about 4 other guys are going to be staring at pictures of water until the wee hours in the morning all month with the hopes that in the end we can identify a rough estimation of sardine populations. Now me and all the other guys are not exactly what you would call photoshop pros, but between the 5 of us we know that adjusting the light levels, saturation, hue, and a few other things we can see the schools of fish pop out in all the photos. This is a lengthy process and if done for each picture we would take all year to finish when we only have a month. I was wondering if anyone on here had any experience doing this sort of thing or would be able to advise me on how to do this quick and/or make the schools pop up extremely clearly.
Original photo (shot by a plane at 8000ft)
Post lightroom editing, and touch ups in photoshop we get
Ive resized the after picture to make it smaller but you get the drift. The dark spots are the schools of fish and what we are after in the photo. At best we get a few that stand out in extreme contrast to the water but most of the time it takes 20minutes of fiddling around with settings to get barely darker smudges to come out for us.

I have a request for a profile picture I have. Its a picture of me wearing a skull mask. Now I was trashing around with photoshop myself for a little bit but the only thing I could do to it was make the edges dark so that it looks like darkness around me.
what I tried to do myself, but what failed.......quite a bit XD, was making my eyes glow red or bleu and maybe make the background of my room more......death style like :P but what I am mainly really curious about is the eyes
here is the picture

I'm retouching some old family photo's
I'm able get rid of most of the scars and boost the colours of the old image as below:-
old
New
there is quite a lot of green noise on the image. Particularly the sofa. See below:-
I've run noise filters which can fix it a bit but to be honest it mainly just blurs the green into the black and makes the image that bit less sharp.

I have a couple or three (probably more) small-ish sized images that have crappy quality (they're grainy/noisy-ish and whatnot y'know).
My question is: in general, what would be the best way to enlarge the photo, make it look smooth, and more/less "professional quality" without losing any color? I know whichever method of doing this would require playing around with the settings in each step with each picture.

I am new to the entire graphics arts area. (I do network design for a living). I have been reading the "Adobe Photoshop CS5 Classroom in a Book" and I don't understand their logic for the order they say to use to retouch a photograph.
Their order is:
Duplicating the original image or scanEnsuring that the resolution is appropriate for the way you'll use the imageCropping the image to final size and orientationetc.
For their example they use a picture of a child walking around a ring with a brick wall as the background.
Now, lets say that I wanted the final image to be of the child only and 3 inches wide by 5 inches high, and 72 ppi (pixels per inch) for a print.
I disagree with the order of steps 2 and 3.
In step 2, I decrease the pixel information to 72 ppi.
In step 3, I crop only to get the child
then I import the resulting picture into say Microsoft Word and stretch the picture to be 3 x 5 it would seem to be that I would be way below the 72 ppi desired result.
What am I missing?

I would like to ask a question about architectural photography lighting and retouching techniques. You can see some sample sites below: URL.....
These photos are very impressive and possibly taken as HDR.The question is; this transformation can be possible just photoshop retouching even using light? It looks like 3D rendering or PS drawing but we don't sure. Is it Photoshop Plug-In or what kind of technique is it?

I often find I need to remove something from a broad gradated area of an image, such as a bill board from a dusk sky. I've always tried to clone the image out, but end up with a mottled area of the sky. If I get it smooth, it seems to have a different texture because I've used a lower opacity in the brush. I've tried replacing the sky with a gradation but blending that at the horizon is always a bit iffy.

I want to edit in a complete non destructive way, so i work with smart objects and separate blemish removal layers. However, when i double click on my smart object to edit it in camera RAW, after i save the changes, my blemish layer looks like this:
On this particular example, i brought down the exposure on the smart object in camera raw and the corresponding exposure adjustment was not applied to the retouching layer as well. This defeats the whole purpose of making a separate adjustment layer if i have to make a new one every time i make adjustments to to the smart object.

We've encountered a huge problem with some JPEGs we retouched for print.Either directly after opening them in PS or after saving and closing the image (mostly the case) it's getting some kind of horizontal stripes / artifacts. Problem is, sometimes they only appear after saving the image, so we'd have to reopen every one a few times to make sure this error does not occur. Also, the images look abolsutely fine in the preview AND wehen placed in InDesign. Sometimes they're visible in the exported PDF, sometimes they aren't and we eventually find out when the product is already printed.
We're running CS6 on OS X 10.7.5 with newest patches and Updates. All images are HQ stockphotos from familiar sites.

I am interested in building an automated retouching system for a specific form of photography. The system needs to be able to handle a large workflow of images and create a look that is desirable and state of the art. I can see that there are a lot of systems out there that deal with portraiture etc and feel that if we could develop a similar system with actions for the specific work that I shoot it would be great.

In my opinion i think the Ellipse Select Tool could be a little more ellipse (even in a 800% zoom). In this image we see that the ellipse tool starts out as a small square; than it will gradually become a circle. i'm not against it but i do think there should be an option for you to pick, in the Ellipse Select Tool options, between a pixelated circle or a perfect circle.
The same can be said about the Rectangle Select Tool when it is rotated.

I'm fairly new to using bump maps and have a question about a wood grain bump map.
I am using a bmp file in the material editor for the wood grain, along with a UVW modifier to make the grain run differently on the different pieces of the furniture. I was hoping to "enhance" the appearance of the grain on the wood, so I thought I would try a bump map by using the same bmp file and set it to 30%. While there is much more texture to the grain than wanted, I'm wondering why the vertical instances of the wood do not seem to have the map applied?
Aside from that question, is there a better way of enhancing the grain pattern without necessarily increasing the texture?

On your face, there are about 20,000 pores, and if you don’t have perfect skin, it seems like half of them turn into some for of unwanted skin irritation, a blackhead, whitehead, rosecea, dry skin, flaking skin, and probably about 1 dozen other things that I have never heard of. Nobody likes these imperfections in skin, especially on photo day. This lesson is going to show you how to remove blemishes using gimp.

Version: Photoshop CS (1)
Computer: Pentium 2.4 gHz dual core
4 Gigs Ram
Nvidia 7950 video card Win XP Home
I started to get this strange error with my Photoshop when making a new document in Photoshop and got the following error: "cannot initiate Photoshop because Photoshop cannot create any more windows".
I thought the easiest thing to do would be to reinstall (Photoshop needs reinstalling extremely often unfortunately), but now when I try and open the program it just give an alert beep and closes back up. Even though I rarely use ImageReady, I opened that up to check and it does the same behavior.

Can anyone tell me what color settings I need to set in photoshop in order to avoid this from happening? It only happens once in a while and I don't know what I've done to fix it or screw it up. What happens is that when I'm in photoshop and I do a "save for web" my document jumps to image ready and when viewing '2 up' for optimization purposes and comparison, I realize that the original view is actually duller in color and does not look like the original in photoshop. The blacks are definitely not as black.

when I got my first Macintosh IICX and all of my MacPaint clip art. I don't want to get rid of the clip art because since I'm still using a black ink printer and not upgrading to a color one, the clip art looks nice in newsletters and the like.
Up until this time I had been using SuperPaint which had the New Superbits editing plug-in to refine the pictures so they had the smoother and cleaner lines instead of looking jagged. With my new computer and printer, I'm also getting Photoshop CS packaged with Adobe Creative Suite Premium, which I have never used before. Since I have not received my order yet, I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether Photoshop has the capability of improving the older MacPaint clip art like SuperPaint did with the New SuperBits editing plug-in. Over the past two days, I have been trying like crazy to back-up my pictures with SuperPaint and then re-saving them with Graphic Converter. It's been so incredibly slow that I thought I would go ahead and ask you, the experts, if Photoshop can also improve the quality of my older MacPaint clip art or if I should continue to back-up my clip art like I have been doing.

I have just got back from the Elbow gig and pulled the images off the card. They load up in Bridge but don't have actual picture thumbnails. They are named correctly, ie: IMG_3483.CR2 but they won't open!? Error message says 'Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognise this type of file'
I could see them on the back of the camera.
mac users... i did a software update the other day and I noticed that there was an update for ACR. Could it have been something to do with that? And why can't I find ACR in my Applications?

of Adobe Photoshop v6.0.1 (quite old, I know, but it do all I want and on my old HW I did not plan/want to use any more recent version, because they are HUGE and with just a little preferences trick, I did not need to reinstall my PS - ever ), yet as Czech user, I need my software to type some special characters as well. These are looking like this:
[URL]...
Now the only problem is, that some of them PS just refuse to type. Seven small and seven caps are just wrong. See the line "for PS:"...
I battled the problem even by editing the fonts itsels, because that seems to work with Adobe Illustrator, yet this also cause the edited fonts to be useless in another programs. So I looked deeply and in the Adobe settings in directory Fonts / Reqrd are directory CMaps and perhaps editing the character map used will be better and usable solution? how to do it or even determine with file from the 96 files in the CMaps directory are right now used by Adobe Photoshop?
