Paint Shop Pro :: X4 Use Precise Cursors Is Broken?
May 29, 2012I upgraded my Paint Shop Pro from X2 to X4 recently and now I find that the precise cursors seem to be broken.
The crazy thing is that it has broken X2 as well so I'm a bit stuck. I know that it used to work because I use PSP for digitizing vector curves and have existing drawings where the vector node is not at the center of the pixel grid.

The problem: When I want to use a tool and put the cursor over it, a tool about 15 icons below it gets selected.
I get this with the mouse and the pen tablet.

I do a lot of screen captures but I have not been able to get X3 to include the Cursor in the capture!!I have tried it in Full Screen, Client area, and Window but it never shows up.I have even un-checked it (Include Cursor) and re-checked it to make sure it was set

Below them are the values of the R,G,B channels at the cursor position. Moving the cursor around the image in the preview area changes these values. Left or right clicking places a target on the image and changes the colour balance of the image. I presume it is selecting a new value for the White Balance. However, the data values remain identical in the Current: and Original: columns.
The dropper and box are only displayed when the Smart Photo Fix option is selected in the Adjust Palette.
So, how does one get the data values for Current: and Original: to display different values? What is the difference between left click and right click? What is the overall function of this feature?

Paint Shop Pro :: X4 Will Not Open - Cursor Just Spins
Dec 21, 2012I have owned previous versions of Paint Shop Pro, but decided to upgrade again. I really like Paint Shop Pro X4, and it has worked for me in the past on this same machine (Windows 7 HP laptop).
For some reason PSPx4 will not open -- ever -- not at all. The cursor spins continuously. I need to end the program manually. I have installed Corel PSPx4 service pack 3 and this did not work. My computer is healthy.
I have not tried installing and reinstalling PSPx4 because I can't find my disc, but I'm still looking ( I moved recently and I think I misplaced it).
Why did it stop working all of a sudden? I have a bunch of photos to edi.
Revit :: Paint Tool Giving Inaccurate SF On Schedules
May 22, 2013I am working on a project doing cost estimating and product specification for interiors. First project ever using Revit!
In my "Wall Finish Schedule" I need to show the finish material, the Area (SF) and cost. For tile on the wall I have created basic walls which works great. For my painted walls I used the split face tool and applied the material with the paint tool. Double checking the SF calculations for the applied paint - they are incorrect and seem to calculate the whole wall instead of the split area with material applied.
What is the best solution to properly apply wall materials so they schedule properly?

No matter what you do, no matter which magnification level you're working in... any rectangle drawn is never put exactly where the mouse button was clicked or lifted.
(1) I've selected the image's edges while drawing a cropping rectangle. See the resulting cropping rectangle miss my selection for more than 3 pixels:

Now, this no longer works! There's still some communication there, because an error message - which, incidentally, makes absolutely no sense at all - is generated in PSP X4:

Oct 26, 2012I use iMac i7 with lion 10.7.5..After a "considerable" amount of editing, photoshop just stops responding. For example, the paint brush cursor will move but no paint can be applied. Have about 10-12 layers, guessing abour 70 history steps.
Must exit the app and restart, at which time it will behave normally. I use latest, almost, OS and have 8GB ram.

For 2 examples, I'll simply describe the behavior of the Escape key.

Exhibit A:
I would like to use Text to type in some letters with different colors. What I would do is press T (shortcut key for Text), select a color, type a letter, press ESC, nothing happened, click somewhere else, click back to the letter, select a different color, type a letter, ESC, nothing happened, repeat...
After I'm done, I press ESC again with nothing happening, and press a different shortcut key to continue editing, like O (shortcut key for Line/Curve).
Exhibit B:
I would like to draw a circle and a line. After finish typing, I press O four times to use the Ellipse tool, draw a circle, and then press ESC. Nothing happened. Next, I press O once to use the Line tool, start drawing a line, and then press ESC. At this point, my drawn line is canceled for good, and I need to either use Redo to recover it, or redraw the line again.

Here I present to you these two exhibits. Notice that sometimes, pressing ESC does nothing other than jumping back to cursor, and sometimes cancelling the action that was done.
Would it be possible if the Escape key has a consistent action throughout all of the tools?
Photoshop Elements :: Cursor Change In Paint Bucket
Oct 1, 2012I’m getting a strange cursor when I use the Paint Bucket tool. Instead of the bucket with the pointy bit to show where you’re aiming, I get three tiny paint buckets in a horizontal line, looking a bit like a fragmented ruler, so it is impossible to see where the point of the paint bucket is. I have used CAPS LOCK to get the crosshairs but would refer the normal setting to be available too.
I have shut down the PC and restarted with PS9 as the only app open but I still get this funny cursor. Some of the cursors from other tools are also affected, esp. when I left-click.Have I changed a setting by accident?

Dec 23, 2013I had Corel Photo Paint v.9, have used it for years in addition to DRAW, but recently my computer died and I had to replace it. I installed it on the new machine, which is running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, but the line tool suddenly started acting nuts. I would move the cursor to where I wanted to start the line and start the line with a mouse click. The line would then dart half-way down the screen and would be nowhere near the cursor's cross hairs making it difficult to work on images.
So, I figured it was a compatibility issue so I bought Corel Technical Suite X6 and have installed it. The line tool does exactly the same thing. The position of the line is nowhere near the crosshairs of the cursor. Is this a new "feature" or is this a bug? If the former, how can I get it to work like I am accustomed to working (I have used DRAW and Photopaint since the mid 1990's, using version 5.0). If the latter, how can I fix it?

Dec 17, 2012When trying to use the clone tool, my initial cursor locations (as picked by me) appears to be about 200 pixels off. I have updated video drivers and mouse drivers to no avail. There was a posting some time back about the same issue, but it seems to be unresolved. The solution was to remove code from the registry.

Aug 3, 2008This has happened to me a few times. Randomly, when I'm selecting a brush size, the brush cursor will change to a tiny diameter, looks like it's the size of a one pixel brush. Only the cursor is inaccurate though, when I start to paint the actual brush size is fine.
I usually just restart photoshop, but the document I'm working on right now still isn't working right.

May 15, 2012I want to use the paint brush for editing a photo I have, but the only color available is black. No matter where I've looked in PSP, there was no option to change the color of the paint brush. I've read online that you need to change the pallet to material pallet, then go to "Foreground & Stroke Properties" and set the color box to the color I want, but the only colors I get are different hues of black and gray.
Even in Paint it's just a matter of clicking the desired color to use different colors. Why isn't it so simple in PSP?
Photoshop :: Inaccurate Rulers
Nov 7, 2006I'm running CS2, and when i open a document of any type the size of the image isn't accurate. For example: when i open an image of 800x600 pixels and set the magnification to 100%, i should easily be able to see the whole image on my screen, however i can only see a small section of it. To view the whole picture i have to reduce the magnification to 25%.
When i look at the rulers at 100% magnification an inch for example displays as more like 2 inches.
I'm using a 20" monitor with a resolution of 1680x1050 so there shouldn't be a problem viewing these images at 100%
Photoshop :: Inaccurate Marquee Tool
Apr 2, 2012I've recently upgraded from Photoshop cs3 to cs5.1 and have noticed that the marquee tool's selection is not as accurate as I'd like. For something simple like drawing a selection around a square I could previously do this down to the exact pixel with a single click and drag. My process (while working at 100%) now goes like this:
i) Choose which bit of the cursor I place in the top left of the square to trace (I use the black inner lines)
ii) Click and begin dragging and see that the selection in the top left is now 1 pixel down and 1 pixel to the right of where I clicked.
iii) Drag the selection to the bottom right of the square and align the inner lines of the crosshair
iv) Release the mouse button. The top left corner now springs back into the originally clicked position (good). The bottom right corner now jumps up to 2 pixels up and 2 pixels left of the actual corner.
I am left trying to approximate how far past my object corner I overshoot in order for it to be correct when it 'jumps' back. It feels as though I'm getting similar selection errors as if I was working at a random image zoom such as 337%
Jumping problem is the same if 'snap' is turned on or off...The problem occurs at 100% and is marginally improved at 200% - although I can't get an accurate selection in 10 attempts.Also in cs3 the Marquee tool's crosshair was 1 pixel thick and now in cs5.1 it is 3 pixels thick due to the white outline around it, I find this harder to use and unable to switch off.Selecting cursors 'precise' in preferences doesn't fix it
CorelDRAW X5 :: Inaccurate Export To Bitmap
Mar 28, 2011I have a bunch of objects on a CorelDraw page that together make up a button for a web page. I select all the objects: the toolbar tells me that the selection is 281px x 59px.
I press Export, selected only, the preview comes up. My button suddenly is 283px x 61px. Looking closely I can see a faint border around the actual button image.
What setting do I have to change to make it export what I tell him and not what he thinks?

Apr 11, 2005I've been noticing in PS CS that when i SFW (save for web) or just plain 'save as' the colors always end up a bit lighter than the original. I have no idea what is going on, i've never played with the settings so I'm not sure what changed, and i thought it might have been the color modes (mode = RGB, working proof setup = cmyk) but nothing seems to make a difference. It could be that the document mode is RGB and i'm working in a proof setup of CMYK, but I don't know enough to tell. I would play with it some more, but I don't know what is default and what isn't. Its really a pain to have inaccurate colors when exporting, especially when working with gradients or light colors, where they are subtle already.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Inaccurate Grading Volumes
Aug 29, 2012I have noticed that the value I get when I use the surface volume comparison tool or look at a graded item in the grading group properties box is different than if I calculate it by hand and the discrepancy isn't even consistant. After spotting this problem in a job I am working on graded two simple ponds to check this. The first one is 100' x 100' and 5' deep w/ 2:1 side slopes. Calculating the volume by hand I get 1500 cu. yds but the grading group properties come up to 1506.17 cu. yds. The accuracy is off by less than 0.5% The second pond is 100' x 100' and 2' deep with 3:1 side slopes. The hand calc gets me 654.52 cu. yds. and the grading group properties reads 655 cu. yds. This discrepancy is closer to 7%. I really need to know if I can trust the volume tools in the program.
