Lightroom :: V5.2 And OS X Mavericks Application Switching Delay
Oct 24, 2013
Almost every time I switch in and out of Lightroom 5.2 running on OS X mavericks cursor and keyboard control freezes up for around 10-30 seconds. Other applications including LR still continue to work during this freeze up but the mouse cursor will not move and I just have to sit and wait for a little while and everything will resume normally after this delay.
I'm running LR5 on Windows. I've got the grid view on my primary display and a second display showing the loupe view.
If the focus moves to another application (i.e. a small notepad window on the primary display) then I can still see LR with its grid view in the background behind notepad on the primary display however the loupe view on the second display disappears and I can see the desktop.
Is it possible to configure LR not to automatically hide the 2nd display when the input foucs moves to a different wiindow? I'd like to be able to continue displaying the image on the 2nd display while I'm doing something else on the primary display.
I've not been able to check but I've a feeling this is new behaviour in 5, I don't think 3 or 4 did this.
After updating to OSX Mavericks, Lightroom 5 will no longer start on my MacBook Pro. Checking the system log, I see only this:
10/30/13 8:56:00.390 AM spindump[21481]: Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5 [21388] didn't gather any samples due to audio running 10/30/13 8:56:00.406 AM com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[170]: (com.adobe.Lightroom5.30128[21388]) Exited: Terminated: 15
I notice a rather strange behaviour in Lightroom 4.3 in the Develop module: it appears that the Develop preview ("zoom to fit" setting, I guess that's what 99% of people are using when using the global adjustments) is only updated when moving the mouse pointer AWAY from the slider that controls the adjustment (it doesn't matter if it's Clarity, or Highlights, Shadows, whatever).
I happen to often click somewhere on the sliders range, say somewhere in the middle between 0 and +100, to get an idea what a Clarity ~50 might look like. If I keep the mouse pointer hovering over the knob, the Develop preview will look pixelized/blocky, and not update to a more refined preview.
Only if I move the mouse pointer AWAY, the preview will be updated. It's as if the rendering is delayed until you're really sure you want that setting, perhaps to improve responsiveness/performance? This didn't happen in LR 4.2.
I tried this with a NEW catalog and only imported something like 100 photos to it, and no plugins - the behavior stays the same. I uninstalled the latest AMD/Catalyst graphics driver and let Windows 7 (64bit) "fall back" to a default driver - again, behavior stays the same.
In LR5 when I go to use one of the 5 zone adjustment areas in the Develop module histogram, there is a 2 - 2.5 second delay before I can use them for each image. The individual sliders below, e.g., exposure, contrast, etc, don't exhibit the delay.
This is not the case with LR4.4... and it is a cause of frustration for me due to the slowdown in my wedding workflow. I'm on a Mac Quad Core, 12 GB, SSD, etc, so I'm not sure what the problem is, as I said there's no problem with 4.4. I searched but did not see this problem listed. Also, LR 5.2RC does not fix the problem.
Is Lightroom able to make use of Mavericks Tags as Keywords or will Keywords in Lightroom be recognized as Tags in Mavericks when browsing with Finder?
Every since upgrading to Mavericks my Lightroom metadata browser has had missing numbers. It used to show the total count of photos that matched the criteria and it no longer does that.
I have scanned something in OS X Mavericks (10.9.0) using my Canon PIXMA MP280 and am attempting to add it to my main Lightroom catalog (LR 5.2) but am having issues. I have tried the following formats with the noted results:
.TIFF - Lightroom throws error "The file appears to be unsupported or damaged. (1)" .JPG - Lightroom does not show the file in the import dialog, thus does not even attempt to import it. .PNG - Imports ok.
The .TIFF and .JPG formats seem compeltely intact as they open without any issues in OS X Preview and Pixelmator.
When I try to connect my Nikon D610 with a USB cable to import RAW files (i.e. .NEF), I need to open manually LR and click on the Import button to start importing even if Automatic Import is activated.
I've been using bridge the past 2yrs, currently CS5... and looking to switch to Lighroom4.
Thing is, I'll probably use bridge from time to time, and already started rating stuff in Bridge. I noticed when I opened Lightroom that the star ratings were there which is great, but, in Lightroom I setup a copyright and applied it to a group of images which when in Bridge I'm not seeing.
When doing star ratings, keywords and copyright tags... do the files/images saves that info? I don't want to spend the time cleaning up my system in Lightroom, to find out that when I burn the files to discs and use on other systems or in Bridge the info doesn't carry.
When switching from the Library to Develop module, there's a several second delay. However, when going to the Book module, LR4.1 will beach ball for a good 15-20 seconds. Other modules (Slideshow, Print, Web) are better, but....
My spec's: 2010 15" MacBook Pro, 2.4Ghz i5, 8gigs of RAM, 500gig 7200rpm HD, nVidia 330 with 256mb of video RAM.
I'm using Lightroom 2.6 on a Mac G5. I've got 93.36Gb of photos ( 9,000 RAW files plus their sidecar files) on a 500Gb firewire 400 drive. I'm upgraing to a 1TB firewire 800 external, and my file is (I believe) on my internal hard drive under users somewhere.
I can piggy back the new and old externals, or copy my photos to the internal and then transfer to the new drive when I connect it, but I have no way of connecting both firewire drives to the computer at the same time.
What's the most effective and easiest way to transfer my catalog and photo files from one drive to another and have Lightroom find them and sort everything out?
I recently updated Lighroom 4.1 to 4.2 successfuly, but now any time I go into the Develop module, Lightroom pauses, then crashes and forces me to quite the program. Is this a bug than needs to be ironed out, or is there something else going on?
So, this might be a silly question. I have lightroom on one monitor and when I drag it over (the program window) to my other monitor it pops (changes color) after about 1/2 a second. There is a shift in color. I'm wondering if it is the monitors ICC profile or something weird like that? Both of my monitors are samsungs (different models) and they are both using the Samsung natural color profile.
In Library mode, when I'm switching between all my photos, there is a fade in fade out transition as it switches to the next photo. Can I get rid of this transition? I would like to just switch to the next photo without any fancy transition.
I'm a huge fan of Full screen mode (pressing F) to review my image large without UI clutter. However often the image in Fullscreen looks quite different from what I see in normal mode within Develop. The full screen image is brighter (by about 0.5EV) and lacks contrast. Exporting the image and reviewing externally shows that it is faithful to the version in normal Develop mode.
Originally I thought this was due to visual perception where the dark border made the full screen version appear brighter, but this isn't the case. Using Lights out mode with all tabs collapsed and then switching to Fullscreen also exhibits the difference. Further I've taken screenshots of both modes, put them in layers in Photoshop and the difference is very noticeable switching between them.
I'm not sure if nobody is noticing or using Fullscreen or if it's somehow unique to me? As it stands, without being able to trust Fullscreen mode showing a faithful image it's rather useless as a review tool.
When I change to process 2012 on an image that has been worked in 2010 I'm seeing a big change in the image, much brighter, less contrast. Any way to closely preserve the old look while updating the process?
Also wondering what the new 2012 process brings to the image, aside from access to the new tools. Will I see a better (or just different) rendering of the image from older files?
I bought Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 but get the following alert: "Some of the application components are missing from the Application directory, Please reinstall the application." Can it be reinstalled? It is not available under "History" and none of the available installs appear to be for Mac OS X (Version 10.7.4). S
I have PSE9 and a macbook pro 10.9. I lost the original DVD that came with my purchase of PSE. Some files must have gotten corrupted because I can't open the program without reintalling. It says, "Some of the application components are missing from the application directory. Please reinstall the application." I have the serial number and all and I registered the product. Is there somewhere I can download a new copy to install?
at photoshop cs6 extended downloaded in july, i now get the following message: "some of the application components are missing from the application directory. please reinstall the application."
I am getting an error message saying that the application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b) click ok to close application. Further research appears that the temp file location is not found for lightroom 3 64bit, and it wants me to find it or reinstall lightroom 3. The problem is that my software is 16hrs away from me and I forgot to register it when I got it for school in July 2010. I am not sure what I can do here, but I need it for school. Can I just download a trial version and until I can get this fixed
Using a picture browser or other image management application, after selecting one or more raw files (maybe from different folders), what is the syntax for a call to Lightroom to open those files (best directly in the develop module)? Right now I can ask to open the images in Photoshop/ACR or to open a folder on Bridge, but I can't find out how to do that with LR. I just can't bypass the catalog part which is useless to me.
In addition tp adobe photshop i have a program i installed with my Canon XTI Digital called EOS Digital. Anytime I try to Browse and attach a photo I have to go to my pictures and some time the pictures are not there (the ones I downloaded into Adobe from my camera). There is a way to transfer the Adobe photos to this program but I forget how I did it.
I use Lightroom 1.4 and want to upgrade to 3.2. After installing the software I can't open the application (message: the application Lightroom has suddenly stopped...). I tried to remove old prefs, old application, other Adobe prefs and finally all Adobe software but Lightroom refuses to start up. I tried to create another user and for the new user the thing is working. I really really hope to find a way to get it running on my old user-account because of a lot of other software, server-connections etc etc. I am working on Mac OS 10.5.8.
I am working with M.Objects which is a very neat and comfortable picture show application.
Images that are exported under LR 3.6 can't be imported there. M.Objects is a Windows application. So I threw 3.6 into trash, and installed LR 3.5 again. Now it works again properly!!
