When I import files from the M Monochrom there are no actual previews in the import dialog window. Also LR4 does not indicate the aperture used in either the library or develop module.
View 13 RepliesI just installed Lightroom 5 and the import dialog box is not showing the previews of the images. Without the previews, there are no images to select for importing. It doesn't matter if they are JPG or CR2 and if I try to import from the camera card or hard drive. Version 4.4 also failed at first but after hacking away, I finally got the older version to work.Â
I am using Lightroom 5, Windows 7 64 bit.
I sometimes get full size previews in the import window (when I double click on a picture in the grid), but usually they are tiny and get extremely pixelated when I try to make them bigger. This makes it very difficult to decide if a picture is good enough to import.

Sometimes reports no import, sometimes just shows thumbnail; sometimes fails on all photos, sometimes on just some. Happens for different file formats (ie, JPEG, raw from different cameras), different card readers, different USB ports. Canceling the import and selecting import again seems to be a workaround, but this is annoying nonetheless.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI haven't paid much attention to my smart preview status. I always import and create smart previews and watch the completion bar go across the page and see the message after import that x number of smart previews were created.

But when I look at my catalog files (which I keep on Dropbox if that matters), I see that the file shows last updated on OCT 30 and it's 7.68gb. If I do a spotlight search for the smart preview irdata file, I find it has the same date but is 9.3gb. In either case, the size seems smaller than I would expect.

On my laptop, the smart previews of recent imports are all there, so I'm using them. On my desktop (even when disconnected from the drive with the original files) I do not see them (since that machine is always hooked up to the drive that the originals are on, it doesn't really matter but I'm confused).

Is there some setting that I can't find where I've set a max size of the smart preview file? Is there any way it could be saving somewhere other than in the LR cat folder I'm saving to?

When I import raw canon cr2 or Nikon NEF files, I cannot see the previews.

The progress bar gets stuck on building smart previews and I see a greyed out box. When I choose one greyed out preview box and go into develop then the preview appears and I can edit the image.

Importing my RAWs form the EOS 6D (saved on a 95MB/s 32 BG SanDisk Extreme Pro) it renders only the 12 or 24 displayed previews and leaves out the rest (the next only when I'm scrolling down). For 12 images LR5 needs 8-10 seconds. LR4.4 does the same process for all 150 RAWs in 1-2 seconds.

It doesn't matter if I want to import to my workstation (Dell Precision T1650, 8core Intel Xeon E3-1240 V2, 16GB RAM, 64bit) via USB 3.0 (Reader & Port) or to my laptop (Dell Latitude E6400). So it must be LR, not my hardware.

Are there known issues with the Canon-RAW format? I just updated EOS firmware to 1.1.3, but the renderspeed stays the same. For 1 image 3-4 seconds single...
Since starting to use LR in 2009, I've been making separate catalogues for every 6 months worth of photos. I've now decided to consolidate all my photos in a single catalog, but the process is taking forever, even though I'm not moving the photos, just importing edits/previews/ratings/collection etc.. How to speed things up.BTW, all of my catalogs have been converted to LR4 format.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've used Lightroom 5.2 RC for a few weeks and successfully imported a few times. This morning, however, the dialog will not come up and the program hangs until I kill it in Task Manager. This is in Windows 8 64-bit.

I've tried removing the memory card, and all other USB-connected devices, but it still hangs. I'm a developer and can supply crash dumps if necessary.
I am SO TIRED of having to unplug every single peripheral device attached to my computer before opening the Import dialog box in Lightroom to keep it from taking forever to access local drives due to auto scanning!

Why can we not turn that OFF in preferences? Why is it on in the first place? Lightroom should not scan a folder to generate thumbnails in the Import dialog box until a Source folder is manually specified! In fact, you should be able to Import without any thumbnails in the view at all if you choose.

Any way to force Lightroom to behave this way?
I have struggled with various settings of the Interface under Preferences, but the import dialog in Lightroom 3.* is so dark/low contrast as to be almost invisible. I have to really strain to read it.
The "dim level" control doesn't work nor does using "light grey" or "white" backhground. I'm using pretty common, calibrated monitors and the problem is not just on one computer.
Since I upgraded to Lightroom 4.1 from 3 the Import Dialog screen will not auto open when I insert a memory Cart to my Imac. I have the correct box ticked in the preferences.

In the normal gridview it is possible to change to a lot of diffrent info so it would be great if I could do the same thing in gridview in import dialog.

The info is there since I can hover to se the date but it would be a lot faster if it could be visible directly.
When importing files from a compact flash card (Windows 7, Lightroom 3 final) my "move" option is greyed out, and so I can only copy or add the files during the import. I want to move them so they are deleted from my CF card after the import

When I choose not to "show Import dialog" while synchronising a folder, it shows the correct number of new photos in a folder. But when the import starts there's a blank field and nothing happens. This can last for a whole day. Here is a screenshot.

The second problem is with Import.
When I start "Import" or mark "Show import dialog before importing" in syncing a folder it shows me all the photos, despite I choose "Add", "New Photos" and "Don't Import Suscected Duplicates".

I'm using Raw Photo Processor plug-in for external developing, I thougt this might be the cause, but I've been using it for a long time, and the problems started several days ago.
When I import pictures from my SD Card I usually leave copies on the card for a while so I have them as backup, and to also be able to see recent pics on my camera. However each time I go to import pictures from that card within LR, it defaults to selecting all pics on my SD card even though I have the "New Photos" filter selected at the top of the import box.  It always puts all my photos in the "New Photos" section, so I have to deselect all the photos that I have already imported into my catalogue so I don't get duplicates. How do I get LR to only import pics that haven't been imported bfore? Â

I am aware of the "Don't Import Suspected Duplicates" option, but that is not the samea as what I am looking for.  It only deselects photos that still exist in my catalogue.  Any photos that I have deleted from my catalogue remain selected in the import box as it doesn't see any duplicates. Â

Try to navigate into a NFS drive inside the import dialog. It does not work anymore.

LR 5.2 (on Win7, 64-bit) stopped displaying ANY images or movies in the import window. It doesn't matter whether the images (+/- movies) are on the SD card (from which I usually directly import), or any folder on my PC that contains images. LR 5.2 however has no problem displaying the images on my PC in the library window (as they have been imported into the catalog before the problem occurred).

Lightroom 5.0 fails to detect memory card and open import dialog. This has always worked fine in Lightroom 4, 3,and 2. Same cards, same camera, same iMac using OS X 10.8.4. Manual importing works OK, card is detected just fine.

When selecting "Import", a new window opens which is a "Copy as DNG" which, during reading all tutorials, is never mentioned. I would like to just import directly from the source card to Macintosh HD. Also, "NO PHOTOS" shows as well.

When will this camera be supported?
I'm trying to synchronize my folders, and LR4 is consistently crashing when it attempts to display the "Import Results" window. This is on Win7 Pro, using LR4 64-bit. A portion of the pix being imported are successfully stored in the catalog, and the remainder are not. When I restart LR and attempt to synchronize again, the process repeats: find the new pictures (the ones that weren't stored in the previous attempt), start importing them, reach apparent 100%, start to display "Import Results" window and immediately crash.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running dual 30 inch monitors each one at 2560x1600 resolution, on windows xp sp3 on an nvidia quadro FX 3700M (dell precision M6400 laptop) If I use CS4 from the single laptop screen, everything is fine. However, whenever Im on the huge dual screen desktop any dialog box activity has a very poor performance. For example, I select File>New and the dialog window takes some two to three seconds to draw on the screen... it might not seem like a big problem but it is very very annoying since I am used to the snappy response of the user interface from years of PS use. It really affects my workflow since I work with many files at the same time. Also, the bigger the dialog window the slower it takes to appear. If I select File > Save for Web and Devices, that dialog window will take up to five seconds to appear on the screen. The problem seems to get worse the longer the OS has been working, ie. if the PC is freshly booted the problem seems a bit lighter. So it might be related to video card memory or something. Here's what I have tried so far to solve this:Since what I'm using is a laptop, the driver choices are limited, however I've been able to force install the 181.20 version of the nvidia driver, but it made no difference. All the official driver versions (176 series) from Dell also have the problem.The problem doesn't seem related to Photoshop's use of the GPU as the problem remains while the GPU acceleration disabled.This problem is also present in PS CS3 as well as CS2 CS1 and version 7 which are all I am able to test.I was able to reproduce this problem on a desktop computer with the same setup on an nvidia quadro FX 5500 card. The dialog box window performance is really terrible.I did not notice this problem in any other application that spans the two screens, even high end 3d ones. Ok well it seems from my testing that Photoshop is simply bogged down by having such a huge desktop area to work with.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI try to open anything in Photoshop CS, the dialog window shows up for a fraction of a second and then disappears. Photoshop then immediately locks up as if the window is still there and I need to make a selection from there. Only way to do anything at this point is to CTL-ALT-DEL and close Photoshop.
I can't think of anything I installed on the laptop lately, Photoshop has run without incident for months on this machine. The other items in CS don't seem to have any problems at all either.
