How do I prevent Lightroom to auto-start after introducing an USB-stick or otherwise in my computer? I want to start when I need it.
View 2 RepliesLightroom 5.0 fails to detect memory card and open import dialog. This has always worked fine in Lightroom 4, 3,and 2. Same cards, same camera, same iMac using OS X 10.8.4. Manual importing works OK, card is detected just fine.

I did s shoot last night and the images are spread out over different areas between other photos that I took in the past. Shouldn't they just be sorted by image name so they are presented together?

I want to import photos off of a memory card onto an external hard drive and have that external hard drive linked up with adobe lightroom so I can work with the photos that are on my hard drive.

When using Photoshop Elements 11 and try to open the Card Reader to import images, the Card Reader isn't even listed among the various drives attached to, or within, my computer? How can I fix this? If I save the photos from the card to a folder on my desktop, it works just fine. I have tried several different memory cards at different speeds, sizes, fullness, and it doesn't seem to matter. What can I do to go back to importing directly from the memory card?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I import images from my memory card, the images in preview are colored but when rendered in LR4, they are automatically converted to black and white. I made sure that in the import panel that 'Import During Import'> Develop Settings> None. My images show up in LR4 colored for an instance then convert to black and white. This is the first time I have encountered this problem. Am I missing something. I've checked my camera settings with nothing that I believe is the problem. I've been successful in using the other presets under 'Apply during Import' > Develop Settings, but using 'None' doesn't prevent the images from being converted to black and white in LR4. the same is true for importing to Bridge in PS-CS6. I get the same results of all the images being converted to black and white.

I cannot think of any settings I have changed Lightroom no longer gives me the option to move or add from a card. Is this an undocumented "Feature" of v3.3
View 13 Replies View RelatedI just downloaded lightroom 5.4 the other day and today was the first time I went to download images with it.
I could review all my images before I plugged my card into the card reader and attempted to download them, when I opened the import window in lightroom the first image on the card had a preview, but it was greyed out and the rest of the images came up with the .CR2 icon and when I tried to import them I got an error message saying that the files cannot be read.
I tried ejecting the card and putting it back in my camera, but now I can't see the images on my camera either or save them manually to my hard drive.
The files are from a Canon 5D mk II and I shot all the images in RAW with no JPG's.
Is there any way to find out which memory card was used with an image?

My other cameras are importing to Lightroom as always... just fine. I have tried a direct import from the camera and also an import with my card reader and I get the same message. I have also changed cards with this camera and get the same error message.

Typically, I would launch SFX or other plugins from LR4 by specifying "submit a copy of the image with LR adjustments". When finished, the result image is returned to LR4 and auto settings are applied to it, as if it was freshly imported. This is very annoying. I have every time to reset all settings manually (exposure, whites, blacks, etc) one by one. Is there a way to treat plugin returns differently from importing images from a disk/card?

Now I want to have a backup of the image file on the memory card additionally to downloading it. The tethering software digiCamControl can do this with my camera, so it is technically possible.
So how can I achieve this using Lightroom tethering?
With previous versions of Lightroom (pre v4.x), when I would plug in a memory card with photos LR would automatically switch to the import screen. This seemed to stop at v4. I can't seem to find a way to make that happen automatically under v4. how to make LR automatically switch to the import screen when a memory card is connected?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with Lightroom 4.1. When I start the import, lightroom crashes with an "Application Error" all the time. I tried to trash the preference file, but there was no change. I tried to make a clear catalog, but no change to my problem. At least, I deinstalled Lightroom completely and installed it again. But the same problem. The problem was not from the beginning. I could import several pictures. 20k pictures are imported.

When choosing an Import-preset with "Make a Second Copy To" selected and the external drive is not connected (e.g. working on location, ejected ext. drive temporarily), LR starts the copy process to primary location first. Only after copying LR notices that second copy location is offline, displays a warning dialog and won't start preview rendering until warning dialog is dismissed. But user might have left his computer to grab a coffee since rendering eats up CPU power.
Result, Problem:
1. Processing time is lost if user comes back to computer after intentionally taking a break only to discover that computer will be slowed down under processing load again.
2. Files have to be backed up manually. If "eject card after import is selected", user even has to re-insert card again.
Solution A: When Import with backup to external drive is selected, check and warn immediately if drive is not connected.
a) Import button is greyed out with a little red ! or some sort of indicator. User is asked to connect drive or skip backup this time
or
b) Warning dialog is displayed immediately after clicking Import button. Options as in a) are given. Disadvantage: user might miss warning, if sound turned off and turns away from computer immediately after clicking.
Solution B: Allow drive re-connect and copying later
1. Copy to primary location
2. Copy to second location, skip if drive not connected
3. Render previews
4. Display message "The following files could not be copied..." with added new feature "Please connect drive, then selct "copy now" button.I am using Lightroom 3.6 on Mac OS 10.7.2
Every-time I synchronizing a folder, Lightroom always shows Previous Import for the found images.I think this is very annoying, since I manually have to point to the synchronized folder.When I synchronize a specific folder I expect Lightroom to stay on that specific synchronized folder!There should at least be an option for this in the preferences but I haven't found anything...
I'm currently following a longer Lightroom 5 course on Lynda and this don't occur on the authors mac when synchronizing occurs!Is this a windows-only issue or should I dig deeper into my manual?
I'm using LR4 with a Canon camera setup (Wind 7 Ultimate). I've got the auto import setting all configured with an incoming folder and destination. The app recognizes when an image is put in incoming folder and in fact it moves it to the destination folder. What is really annoying is that it leaves me at the import settings dialog and then I have to make all these choices as I would if I were manually importing.
Shouldn't the images be places in the desination folder and some view of that image be displayed in LR? It could be the folder view or ideally I want to see the last image imported at 1:1 size so I can review it and see if I want to take another shot? Maybe there is some flag I've got set incorrectly.
I have started getting dialog boxes at launch about having duplicate items for Patterns, Textures, Gradients, and Swatches. I am not sure why or what to do about it. Attached is a screen snip of the dialog.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI use Auto Import to import my RAW files. Each time LR imports my files the Previous Import count number increases. Is there a way to reset this count so it shows a true reflection of the photos from my previous import session?
Correct me if I'm wrong but if you manually import files the Previous Import count number resets itself automatically. I've Googled this problem & this question has been asked before - all users were utilising Auto Import.
When I insert an SD card LR5 will show a preview of all the content, but when you click on import, yget and error message saying it can't read the files.

Just tried to import some images from an SD card (using a card reader) as I normally do and the import freezes on "importing files". Before import the thumbnails shows and I have tried a different SD card. Is this a bug? do I need to re-install LR?
I am having issues importing photos from my SD card into LR4. I have 319 pictures on my SD card and LR is only recognizing 283 of them. In the Library module, I can see the pics that LR is not recognizing but they are greyed out. When I put my mouse over the picture it says "This photo has already been imported" but I never imported it. I did format my memory card right before my shoot if that makes a difference. I am using a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X Version 10.6.8. I have tried to restart my computer, restart LR, eject the SD card then put it back in but it's still not working. I attached a screen shot

Then lists ALL files on CF card
I tried copying CR2 files to a temporary folder on my desktop but get exactly the same message. Also tried importing iPhone images and get exactly the same message.
This all worked for the first week LR5 was installed and has just started happening after a week
Have no problems at all in Lightroom 4.4
Will not import from card, iphone or HD
