I normally choose to "Move" images from my memory card to a hard drive folder when importing into Lightroom so that the card is then clear to use again. I cannot think of any settings I have changed Lightroom no longer gives me the option to move or add from a card. Is this an undocumented "Feature" of v3.3
View 13 RepliesMy Lightroom 4 on a Mac has stopped importing from a memory card. It used to do so, but now it hangs up and never actually imports the photos. If I save the photos from the card to a folder on my desktop, it works just fine. I have tried several different memory cards at different speeds, sizes, fullness, and it doesn't seem to matter. What can I do to go back to importing directly from the memory card?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I import images from my memory card, the images in preview are colored but when rendered in LR4, they are automatically converted to black and white. I made sure that in the import panel that 'Import During Import'> Develop Settings> None. My images show up in LR4 colored for an instance then convert to black and white. This is the first time I have encountered this problem. Am I missing something. I've checked my camera settings with nothing that I believe is the problem. I've been successful in using the other presets under 'Apply during Import' > Develop Settings, but using 'None' doesn't prevent the images from being converted to black and white in LR4. the same is true for importing to Bridge in PS-CS6. I get the same results of all the images being converted to black and white.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just downloaded lightroom 5.4 the other day and today was the first time I went to download images with it.
I could review all my images before I plugged my card into the card reader and attempted to download them, when I opened the import window in lightroom the first image on the card had a preview, but it was greyed out and the rest of the images came up with the .CR2 icon and when I tried to import them I got an error message saying that the files cannot be read.
I tried ejecting the card and putting it back in my camera, but now I can't see the images on my camera either or save them manually to my hard drive.
The files are from a Canon 5D mk II and I shot all the images in RAW with no JPG's.
I had LR4 working just fine but now I cant import from camera or memory card?

I did s shoot last night and the images are spread out over different areas between other photos that I took in the past. Shouldn't they just be sorted by image name so they are presented together?

My other cameras are importing to Lightroom as always... just fine. I have tried a direct import from the camera and also an import with my card reader and I get the same message. Now I want to have a backup of the image file on the memory card additionally to downloading it. The tethering software digiCamControl can do this with my camera, so it is technically possible.

View 4 Replies View Relatedhave been using PSP8 for a long time with no problems. i regularly copy files from my HD to a memory card but recently i have been getting the following error message for no apparent reason:
cannot copy [filename]: the directory or file cannot be created
if i try to copy a batch of files this does not happen for all files - just more recent ones. so half the files get copied, the others don't. i have checked file properties old files vs new and cannot see any difference. my memory card is not full.
My Canon digital camera uses a removable memory card which I then put into an Inca Card Reader. When using Photoshop Elements 11 and try to open the Card Reader to import images, the Card Reader isn't even listed among the various drives attached to, or within, my computer? How can I fix this? I want Photoshop Elements 11 to recognise the Card Reader so I can import the images.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Canon SX30IS. When I use PSE9 to download from memory card, if there are any videos present on the card, the Photo Downloader crashes.
I believe that it is something to do with Apple Quicktime. When I uninstall Quicktime , PSE downloader does not crash while importing media form this camera, but cannot play video clips. On reinstalling Quicktime , the PSE downloader crashes while searching the memory card for media.
I have not upgraded PSE twice now because of this crash. What makes it worse is that Apple Quicktime is a very poor media player, managing about 2FPS on the video clips from this camera when both the Canon and the VLC video codecs can manage 30FPS.
I would much prefer if I could choose to use a video renderer, like using any available Windows codecs rather than insisting on using annoying Apple software.
What happened to the option/enter command in the move object dialog that has been around since the early days of Illustrator??? Instead of having to mouse click the "copy" button in the move object window, one could just hold down option with Return or Enter and the Copy command would happen rather than a simple move. Immensely useful for prepress work!
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhat to try on my computer to counter the frequent and destructive X5 shut downs that are happening. I've read about this problem in other threads, so I know it's not just me or my system.X5 shuts down many, many times every day. I don't think I've been able to work for 15 minutes straight yet without it crashing.
I am running a fast dual-core Intel, XP Pro SP3, 2 GB RAM, ATI Sapphire/Radeon 1GB card, oodles of hard drive space. I can run the hottest, most demanding games no problem. I run hundreds of other apps with no problem. I had no similar problem with X4 on this machine. I have no similar problem with other Corel apps, either.
X5 crashes still happen after I close down as many memory-resident apps as I can. I can't strip it down much further.I usually have a few (3-4) dockers open, one or two palettes, and my files include several bitmaps which may include transparencies or colour masks. I have about 650 fonts installed.
X5 shuts down on me many times during every work session. Sometimes when I am changing fonts, sometimes when editing bitmaps, sometimes when importing bitmaps, sometimes when applying a transparency. Bang - just shuts down. I can have Corelpaint open editing a bitmap and CD closes underneath it. I can open window to import a file and CD closes as I search the thumbnails. It closes when I click the change page tab.
Doesn't seem to be any specific act or function that closes it - it just shuts down. Gone. No warning. I lose everything since the previous save. Half the time the working file is corrupted, too, so I can't even restore it. I have to keep numerous versions on disk and use save-as with every save to keep just one alive.
I notice that the option to set memory usage has gone from the global options menu. Maybe it's bad memory management and we need that option back? I'd be happy to assign a higher percentage of RAM to X5.

Is there an option to move just a portion of a layer (with the Move, Scale, or Rotate tools, for example) without having to first copy the portion, then delete it, and then paste it as a whole new layer?
For instance, if you have a picture of a house and there's a tree off to the side, and you want to shrink the tree a bit so the house looks bigger. Currently, I would ( a ) copy the tree, ( b ) delete that selection, and ( c ) paste the tree as a new layer....and then finally (d) shrink that.
But could I simply select the tree and shrink it on the same layer?
I've been aligning layers in Photoshop since the first day I aligned layers in Photoshop but I still can't figure out what logic is used to determine which layer(s) moves when multiple selected layers are aligned using one of the six alignment options.

But then is the problem It Saves the file with Large Memory on it. let's say if the file normally would be 200 K, now it saves with 3 MB. And if i import some other files in my work then the saved file will be even bigger. If i Delete the files that were imported The Saved File will be Again the same SIZE ! Even if a take one part of the file, let's say if i import only one small text and put it in another file and save it like that, the saved file will be 2 MB. I had a lots of problems, i had saved files on this way with 23-24 MB and when i open them it takes like forever. When you look that file in corel it has nohing in it, absolutely nothing that should be 24 MB. But all of my important work is in that files how to make all things back to normal again,
View 9 Replies View RelatedI do have problem with my newly installed CorelDraw X5. Before X5 we used Corel 12 in our company.
I have project file (150 MB) with lots of text, bitmaps, vectors - about 100 pages. File opens but I can't save it. I always get OUT OF MEMORY error. I even tried to divide this file into 2 smaller parts but still doesn't work.
What I noticed - Corel X5 after clean start (without opened project) takes about 80MB of RAM in task manager. When I open project usage changes from 80MB to 1,2GB. While saving it takes 1,6GB of RAM and it crashes.
To compare - Corel 12 and after opening same project file Corel 12 takes much less of memory - about 770MB and it works without problem.
Where from comes this memory usage difference?

Was working on a Tiff file which started fine then my LR3.6 started to slow down more and more the more work i did. Now it wont operate at all. I increased the RAW cache from 1 to 5GB even though I had only imported 1.5GB of new pics. My laptop is a DELL XPS running Windows Vista with CORE 2 DUO T9300 2.50GHZ, 4GB of RAM and 12GB of available hard drive space but LR System info says it is running at 170% of memory available. I have closed all applications other than LR. What do I do?
