I have lightroom version 4.2 running on Windows 7.
When I import images, if I spend too long slecting the images I want to import from my memory card, the Import source is lost and all my selections are lost. It is driving me roudn the bend! Is there something I am missing?
I am running out of hard drive space which is the source for importing my images into Lightroom 4.3. I have these images backed up on an external drive. I now want to use the external drive as my source of import. How do I do that. And then how to do I find the missing files in Lightroom?
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to import from a card, using either the slots in the computer or a card reader, I can select the source, but within 15 seconds or so the Source disappears and the middle window tells me to "Select a Source". I can do this over and over, source keeps disappearing. This is happening with different cards (so probably not a card issue), different card reader (so probably not a problem with the reader). Using Lightroom 4 on a Windows 7 operating system. Just started having this problem recently and have had LR4 for several months.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI run 2 hard drives in my PC. One drive is for programs only. The second and larger is for photos/music. When I go to import the source pane ont he left will not recognize the B: drive, Only the C: drive and it will even recognize my M: drive with is my external. Im not sure what to do at this point to add the B: drive to the souce.
View 3 Replies View RelatedFirst, I'm using the new Lightroom v4.1 on a Windows 7 x64 system.
I'm trying (without success) to remove volumes from the list that's shown when a user clicks on the 'Import' button (lower left of screen) and 'Select a source' which, naturally, shows all the drives in my system.
There are five volumes; four internal and one external.
There are only two drives which contain photos that I'm interestered in importing/editing.
The other drives contain files that I have no interest in editing or organizing.
For example, several hundred (scanned and collected) very old family photos that I wish to keep pristine, with no editing of any kind. As for placing them in collections, I already have them in dated, carefully named folders.
So, as this is a shared computer, I want to remove the volumes (drives) so that the aforementioned photos can't be inadvertantly imported.
I had copied a .PNG file into the source folder and wanted to import it into the Lightroom catalog.
However the import dialog does not show that file in the source folder at all.
I also tried the method of selecting the source folder and using the "Synchronize" option. But that did not show the .PNG file either.
My clumsy work-around was to open the file in CS6 and save it as a .JPG file.
So my question: how can I tell Lightroom which file types (extensions) I want to be able to import?
I'm in the process of evaluating several video editing programs. So far I've used AVS Video Editor, Cyberlink Power Director and Adobe Premiere.With each program I've spent 30 minutes making a quick demo video to see how intuitive it is and how well it performs. Today I downloaded Corel Visual Studio and decided to give it a go.
I've run into a problem straight away.I've tried to import raw avi files.So I'm using the "Select Import Source Folders" screen.When I navigate to the folder containing the files the OK button is greyed out and won't work.It's greyed out all of the time.
Is it possible to have Lightroom rename the source images according to my custom naming convention?
I just imported 278 photos and they are all correctly renamed within Lightroom however the source files retained the original Canon generated names. I want to rename them for backup/in case I ever decide to stop using Lightroom/etc.
Autocad freezes for a few seconds every 30-60 seconds. it did this on my previous full autocad 2011 and now on 2012. i have also had a reinstall. it also does it on the other users computers in the office and also those on LT.
the freeze is rondom. it can be triggered by commands, escape button, panning arround the drawing. The problem occurs periodically for say 1 day every few days autocad will have pauses. But other days its fast with no problems.
i have tried all the usual things for slow down. purge, audit, layerdlgmode. I do not think it is general slow down.
LR 5.3 loses mouse clicks, caused my mouse to act erratically, and often "blinks off" for an instant.I'm running it on a Windows 7 machine with 9GB memory.
Catalog has 30K files this started happening with LR 5.2.I've been using LR for years, so i know what a performance problem looks like.
I was working with a client on a move of folders from an internal drive (Mac OSX) to an external drive.He created a dummy folder, via LR, on the external drive so that he could drag and drop from the internal drive to the external.
The folder was created, but the hard drive itself now appears as a FOLDER, not as a drive, under /volumes.
He renamed the drive, from within LR, and all hell broke lose. The name changed in LR, but not on the desktop. We couldn't rename on the desktop as the two names conflicted I'm guessing. We ended up shutting everything down, full reboot and the drive would not unmount. We forced that, closed down and restrted everything. Still had the naming conflict. LR didn't see the folder, so we rnamed in LR and got everything aligned. Or so it seemed.
Dragging folders to the external drive appeared to work OK, but one folder was inadvertently dropped on the folder above the target folder. It was dragged and dropped to the correct location, but then showed 0 images. A check with finder revelaed that the files were in the new location on disk, but LR has lost them.
Today, having moved all files (via D&D) to the new drive, he is trying to reorganize folder, but every D&D on the drive results in the above behavior.
I used to have an old Canon XTi. I used to use Canon's software, Digital Photo Professional, to edit the raw (CR2) and JPG files. Now I have a new camera and Lightroom 3. Everything is great, except when I try use Lightroom on the images that I had previously edited in DPP.
I have already imported all my old photos into LR3 in bulk. However, I notice that when I go to an old folder for the first time in LR3, it loads the previews in grid view sequentially. At first, they look like the edited versions I made in DPP. Perfect! This is what I want. I've spent a lot of time editing some of them in DPP and I now want to manage them and publish them from LR3. But as the images continue to load in grid view, the edits I made are replaced by the original raw images. Cropping is reverted to original, color balance, contrast, black and white, everything is reverted to a default.
Can I keep raw edits made in DPP so I have one definitive library? I can't find any import or catalog settings that seem to pertain.
I am using LR3.6 on OSX 10.5.8.
I converted my catalog from PSE7 to the latest version of Lightroom and it appears that many bad things happened with the dates that I had set on my pictures in PSE7. In some cases, I can see that the Date Time Original and Date Created fields have transferred over but in most cases I cannot see anything other than the original date that I created the picture or brought it into PSE. Since many of my pictures were scans of 100+ years old pictures, I've now lost some important information that I added by using the Adjust Date and Time feature in PSE7. Is there any way to recover this?

I often want to export the book to PDF to share online but when I export it separates the cover from the book which spoils the whole effect.
Is there a way to export both book and cover as one single PDF?
When I edit a photo in Photoshop from Lightroom (ie. Edit in -> Edit in Adobe Photoshop CC...) the photo opens as normal, I edit the photo as normal, and when I hit save, it saves and the edited photo appears in Lightroom - all as per normal. BUT, the edited photo doesn't have the rating and labelling applied to it that the non-edited photo has. So, for example, if I have given a photo a 3 star rating in Lightroom, and then edit and save that photo in Photoshop, when the edited photo appears in Lightroom, it doesn't have a star rating anymore).
I've used Lightroom and Photoshop together for 6 years and never had a problem with this - the photo has always reappeared in Lightroom with the same ratings and labels that the non-edited photo has.
This is a real problem to use when we've filtered a bunch of photos to edit. Everytime we edit one we have to go back to Lightroom, turn off the filtering, find the edited photo, add the ratings, turn the filtering back on and go to the next photo - a real pain when we have 50 images to do in a row..
I can only guess this is a bug with either the new Lightroom, or new Photoshop CC (guessing it is actually a Photoshop problem as I think it appeared around the time it was updated by CC, but I could be wrong).
Updated to LR 4.2, then when switching to 'edit in' Photoshop CS5 getting "This version of Lightroom may require photoshop camera raw plug-in version 7.2". However, checking for updates in Photoshop CS5 says all up to date as does LR. In the dialog I would say 'Open Anyway' and at some point I must have clicked the button to no longer show this message.
Now when I 'edit in' PS and come back to LR there is no entry in History, it's blank. In the past I would see one entry 'edited in PS' and then make further LR edits from there if needed. What happens now if I make an edit in LR I can't 'Reset' back to the original 'edited in PS' to start over because that doesn't exist in History. If I reset it will reset just above the last LR edit. This is awaful and has screwed up my workflow. It's damaged several PS -> LR edited images.
After LR 4.2 upgrade LR still showed an older version of RAW. Somewhere after I unchecked that box to stop the message, now when I look it says Camera Raw 7.2 even though I didn't do any further updates, and both LR and CS5 had reported they were up to date.
EDIT/UPDATE: I just found 'Reset all dialog boxes' in LR preferences and now I get the message again. It appears before I checked the box 'Don't show again' the last time I also clicked 'Render using Lightroom' rather than 'Open Anyway' which I was doing before that.
Now PS CS5 About -> Plug-in - Camera Raw is 6.7.0.339 and Lightroom 4.2 is Camera Raw 7.2 (?)

I am finding that while reviewing / rating my pics lightroom will often lose a pic (pics located within a folder on the desktop - move them to a nas drive later as faster to work from hard drive than accross the newtork when importing and exporting and creating previews etc). I will have a pic on my screen and then use the numeric keypad to rate the pic or the arrow keys to progress to the next pic and then out of the blue lightroom announces that the pic is missing. I look at the hard disk and find that there is now a .swp and .tmp file left in the directory where the pic was. eg below
I can then either rename the tmp file back to a jpg and all is OK but I have just started dragging another copy of the image from the card again. This is not just a lightroom 4 issue I used to have it in Lightroom 3. Its got to the stage where I am now keeping a copy of all images while I do my initial shortlist just incase I lose something which frustrates me somewhat.
It was in Feb - March 2012. I was then using AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012. I had faced a problem of getting ground data for a large surface by using satellite imageries processed by some government wing of USA (NASA?), have lost track of it.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy main hdd was about to crash. i bought a new ssd drive. it isnt big enough to fit original os, programs and images. So I moved images from main hdd to an external hdd. I moved catalog to a new primary hdd with a fresh install. When I load the catalog, the images are missing. When I select locate and find target files, I think it's importing them back to the main hdd. Does it move the file or just change where it's pointing to the file. If it moves the file then I will run out of space again and defeat the purpose!!

The method I tried using was: I used the q select command to copy all objects from one layer on to the clipboard and then tried pasting it in the other drawing (which was in paper) - and nothing got pasted.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI don't remember it being a problem in LR4, but I have just used the spot tool on an image where there was a crop. The program's choice of source for the spot tool seems to me to be more dramatic than ever before, and in this particular image the source selected was in the area which I had cropped out. To move the source point, I had to open the crop tool to adjust one side of the crop, then move the source, then restore the crop to the image, then reselect the spot tool.
It might well be that in some instances the cropped out area is the best source, but whether it is or not, I think we need to be able to access the cropped detail without resetting the crop itself and preferably without having to then reselect the spot tool.
I recently discovered a 'change' to my 'Source Panel' window when I try to Import new files from my CF cards. I have 4.2 installed. All that is available on the left hand side of this window is the 'Other Source' pull down box and never any file source like my hard drives or CF cards or anything that used to be there prior to about a month ago. I reinstalled this program twice without any changes. Have I shut something off by accident? My buddy has the same program and he cannot find any reason my should be any different than his but it is.

I get the message "The currently selected source does not support custom order". Why is this? I find it strange that such a sophisticated product as LR doesn't allow the user to move images around within a folder, especially when it can be done easily in Bridge.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a system of labeling my images to differentiate between the source files and the final edit images, but sometimes I need to apply different labels if there is something that's not ordinary to my process. My problem is that when I go back through my archive to look for something, I forget why I lebeled something a different color. I've been creating JPG's in Photoshop with notes for that specific job, but that's getting to be a pain.
It would be great to be able to create a note within Lightroom that I can view while I'm thumbing through my images.
My source files were a mess, so I went in and roughly organized them, creating folders and grouping them by type. I figured I could just re-link the offline files back in LR.
In Lightroom, I right-clicked on my root photo folder and chose "Syncronize Folder" - what I didn't realize is that it seems to have deleted what I had and reimported it again. So my problem is that all my Lightroom edits on these files are now gone. All I have are raw, untouched pics.
I backup regularly. Is there a way to restore my edits? All the underlying filenames are the same.
when I try to print I get this message "There is one photo in this print job which is missing its source file" I've tried many photos, same message. I've already tried to reinstall (and update to 5.3) Lightroom.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIn LR4, you clicked, held down, and dragged your cursor to select a custom target source point to sample from... Clearly with the big update to the Spot removal tool in LR5, this action has a different effect... So in order to mimic that old action, you have to hold down Command (Mac) while clicking and dragging to select from a custom source point.
This issue I'm having is that when doing this, the Clone/Heal option always defaults to clone. I would say that 90% of the time, I'd rather have it acting as a 'Heal' instead. Having to then go and click 'Heal' to update this fact on every single spot removal is highly time intensive to say the least, when you are editing thousands of images, in my case, at a time.
Am I missing something, or is it possible to change this Default to 'Heal' instead of clone? I like that LR4 would leave the Clone/Heal option wherever you last set it, and you had to manually change it in order to use it differently.
