View 2 RepliesI'm currently working on a project that's about a book printed in 1631. This book contains some illustrations that are on a spread. Because the book is old and rather special, the scans of the spreads show the distinct spine. Is there a simple way in Photoshop to mask this issue?
View 12 Replies View RelatedI just started shooting film again. Having just received back my first few rolls back scanned as JPEGs on to CD, I wanted to import these into my Lightroom library (LR5), but have been unable to do so.
I am trying to import them the same way I import RAW digital files, but when I try that way, they won't import. The only way they import is when there is no destination file set and they are simply stuck in a general "New Folder". Even when I try to simply rename the "new folder" to something more specific I am unable to do so.
When my image opens in Photoshop CS 5.5 I can only see my image when I move it with the move tool and when I let go of left click the checkerboard reappears and hides my image! Can't merge 2 halves of a drafted house plan precisely if I can't see it....?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to trace MRI scans with the Adobe Illustrator trace tool. I have been experimenting with the presnts in order to get the image I want and I have an example posted on this blog: [URL] .....
My goal is to produce easier to follow drawings for audiences who are not used to seeing MRI scans and at the same time avoid any copyright violations by using somebody else's images.
As you can see it does a fair job of outlining the brain but misses a lot of gray details in the center of the image.
How to trace these details? I used to be able to do this by hand, so I think that it is probably possible.
I am using AI CS4 and Win 7. For those who have used it is the trace tool in CS6 better?
I am starting a project and doing research about having the possible chance of making either a UV or X-ray scanner with the ability of scanning numerous 2d drawings onto a photoshop like software all at one time. While going to SJSU it took me a longer time to shoot single shots of my 136 page animation project than it took me to draw it out frame by frame... so I told my teacher David Chai one day-" why not build a cube with an x-ray beam and shoot my whole project all at one time?
" It has been a long time since Art23 and I still have the same dream of doing a full length animation- if it were to ever happen I would need a software with the capability of running a composite that would hold multiple frames scanned(30 perhaps) through a front and side x-ray or UV ray that can harness the depth of each individual frame being scanned at the same time. If I had software that could hold data from each frame... I believe I can work out my schools animation team ad well as move towards making numerous 5 page "final D" animation in a way make a full length film with my old crew Studio.
I scanned an image (settings: B/W adaptive, 600 dpi ) and came up with a .tiff file of 1474 kb.
When opened with Photoshop CS3, and saved, the file size jumps to 38 mb.
How can I edit the file and keep the file size from changing?
Windows Xp
Scanner: Contex HD3630, Using WIDEimage scanning software

When I save a file as a v2000 file from v 2007, the file scans to 31% then the computer chokes. This acts exactly the same in another computer. I need to do this sometimes because the person that I am sending the file to has v 2000 only.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to figure out the best way to clean some scans of old books in order to be able to reprint them. The final result I'm aiming at is B/W or grayscale images.
The most problematic is the ink passing through the paper that makes it harder to read.
The most efficient way I had found until now is to use the separate+ plugin, keep only the C and/or K layers and merge them as the brown spot have much less blue than the actual ink. But in this sample, the colors are too close.
In theory, something that I think is possible but how to differentiate dark places with sharp edges (actual writing) from the ones with soft edges (ink passing through) that would be blanked.

I am about to get a film scanner I have on order, to scan in 35mm negatives.
When scanning film frames, I like the idea of setting the scan area marquee, at the scanning stage, so that it scans slightly beyond the film frame edges, so that I can carefully crop to the edge of the film frame later, in Photoshop CS6, rather than setting it, at the scanning stage, and then later, when examining the film frame in CS6, maybe discovering that I have not scanned to the edge of the film frame quite enough, as I can easily zoom right into the image when in CS6, to carefully examine where the film frame edges are.
I may be reducing the resolution of the image. For example, say I scan a film frame in at 3600 ppi, and later crop the image slightly in CS6 in order to precisely trim off any slight amount of black around the film frame edges. By cropping the film frame like this in CS6, am I reducing the image resolution of the film frame to lower than 3600ppi? As I best understand it, I do not think post-cropping like this results in any reduction in image resolution.
I am receiving a bunch of raw scans and the first thing I need to to with it is cropping them into individual images. We are talking hundreds of photos, with 6+ images on each raw scan. Doing it manually takes time and might not be 100% accurate. One should think some kind of software was made able to do this automatically (PS plugins?)
I suspect I *might* have to resort to something other than Adobe * - but in desperation I am trying this forum anyway..! It would be GREAT to be able to just do this repetetive work in one batch.
I use a NextEngine 3d laser scanner to create organic models. The process is relatively simple assuming you just buy the software that NextEngine supplies (for $995). For this price you get an "auto surfacing" feature and export to STEP or IGES. For me it is hard to rationalize spending that money just for those features, although, auto surfacing makes the process very simple to get a solid into Inventor.
Since I already have Inventor 11 and AutoCad Mechanical 2011, I am hoping there is a way to get the scanned data into Inventor as a solid to edit parts etc, without spending the $995. If I do spend the money, I would like more functionality from the software. I am also looking into Rhino 4 as a possible solution with more functionality for a similar price. I have all the open source programs like meshlab, and blender and they work somewhat.
The Nextengine creates a Point Cloud which can be exported as an .obj or an .STL (which comes in handy for 3d Printing). I use a 3rd party program to import .stl files into inventor. They are imported as a mesh and the "Stitch" command does not work unless you have surfaces (as far as i know). How can I create a surface from a mesh with my existing software?
GOAL: create a surface from mesh data (obj or stl), convert to solid, and edit in Inventor.
i have multiple gang scans, some of them containing 15 images or more. they are scanned at 400dpi and are extremely large files i want to break the component images into their own unique files and save them as tiffs in exactly the same format that they are in now. i want to make sure i dont compress them or change the info in any way except for file size.

View 4 Replies View RelatedBy default, PSE uses the Windows preferred location for this user. I have a folder that is easier to access, simply D:Scans, and I have to enter this manually, as well as removing the default to set up a folder with "today's date" every time I do a scan. I would like to modify these default settings. Surely those locations must be held in an installed file somewhere, and so if I can just edit that file I'd be very happy.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am doing a project for school that requires me to "scan" some old books by shooting the pages with a DSLR-type camera. The setup is kind of like a poor-man's planetary scanner, but unlike a real PS, it doesn't have fancy proprietary software to "flatten out" the curves in the pages (near the binding and in the middle) that distort the text. Since part of my project involves processing the images with OCR into ebooks, I need the lines to be as straight as possible for accuracy's sake. I figure photoshop has GOT to be able to handle distortion correction like this, but I am clueless on how to do it. So far, I have tried to get close by cropping the pictures with a perspective correction, but the pages are still unreadable near the binding and in the middle.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Fedora 17 distro installed on a couple of different machines. I am unable to open pictures and scans, I have, which are in 'jpeg/jpg' format. I understand the saving/exporting thing, but I am unable to even open them.
I am using Kernel 3.6.6-1.fc17.x86_64 and Gnome 3.4.2. The version of Gimp I am using is 2.8.2-6.fc17.
I use the vanilla app and do vanilla things. Lately I have been interested in using some turn of the century public domain line illustrations, but often they are found with yellow backgrounds from the old paper.
I can knock the blotchy yellow out with levels and such, but I think there is probably a way to remove it instead of washing it out. I see that there are a few plug ins out there that might do the job, but I don't know if they are updated to work with the newest program on a 64 bit Win 7 machine.
Bonus question: Since some of the drawings are not the best quality, so vectorizing them has potential. I have played around with the trace bitmap tool on Inkscape and it is cool, but is it the best way? Is there a way to clean up a raster image without manually doing cleanup, or a plug in that lets it scale up?
Every time I go to save a scan it defaults to Bitmap and I have to then scroll down and select jpeg. How can I make jpeg the default setting?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI was reorganizing/rationalizing my hard drive file folders outside of Lightroom. Now not all the images in the folders show up in Lightroom 4.4
For instance:
In a 2014 folder there are 25 files. Lightroom's Folders panel shows the number as 15. If I try Import it shows all 25 files but the missing 10 are greyed out and thus not available for import.
If I Syncrhonize the folder, the little dialog says there are 10 files to be imported, but when I click Synchronize another dialog comes up saying there are no files to import.
In the develop module, when I switch to B&W treatment, my understanding was that a different set of sliders such as fill light, brightness would appear. I just see the same sliders as with color treatment.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been using LR for quite some time and always import my photos from the HD into LR. When plugging in my HD to my laptop it has ALWAYS come us as the F: drive - today for some reason it is coming up as the E: drive and therefore ALL photos are "missing" as it were. I have tried my HD in all 4 different USB ports I have and they are all coming up as the E: drive.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having a new problem after installing LR 3.6 update on my Mac running OSX Lion 10.7.2.
When importing a new batch of photos, the folder containing those new photos is not listed on the left-hand side "Folders" tab where they should be. The photos exist in my catalog, and work fine. I can search for them by date, and they are indeed on my hard drive in the correct folder. LR just isn't showing the folder. I've tried importing a number of ways, including Moving the photos, Copying them, or simply Adding them with similar results. I can create new folders using "Create Folder inside..." just fine, and that folder remains perfectly useable. When I try to create a new folder in LR named the same as one of the invisible folders, it says that folder name is already taken. This happens on local drives and external drives.
I've tried repairing permissions on my local disk, and verifying the external drives in Disk Utility. I could solve this manually, and create the folders myself in a series of re-names and file moving. But this is not a good workflow for me. I'm hoping this is a temporary bug with the new release.
I've made development changes in Lightroom to photos on my laptop. However, they aren't showing up when I import them to my desktop (I'm not applying any import settings upon import).
View 8 Replies View RelatedWhen I edit in Photoshop CS6, then SAVE, then CLOSE, it isn't in lightroom, stacked or un-stacked. I've reinstalled both LR4, PS-CS6, and ACR.
I can eventually track them dow, they are in the folder, but I have to import them before I see them!
It doesn't matter if I process as TIFF or PSD.
How do I get the watermark to work in lightroom? worked fine in the trial but does not show up on photos now. I am starting to get very frustrated with it.

View 4 Replies View RelatedDownloaded LR4 this morning, backed up and upgraded the catalog. None of my photos appear in the Develop Module when I switch to that module from the Folders, though they appear when I switch from a Smart Collection, but not a standard Collection. It shows "No Photo Seclected". Regardless of where I switch from, no photos appear in the filmstrip in the Library or Develop module, though the location menu just above the filmstrip shows the correct number of photos in that particular folder. I'm on a late model iMac, OS 10.7.3, with 12 GB RAM.
