I have a Fedora 17 distro installed on a couple of different machines. I am unable to open pictures and scans, I have, which are in 'jpeg/jpg' format. I understand the saving/exporting thing, but I am unable to even open them.
I am using Kernel 3.6.6-1.fc17.x86_64 and Gnome 3.4.2. The version of Gimp I am using is 2.8.2-6.fc17.
I just started shooting film again. Having just received back my first few rolls back scanned as JPEGs on to CD, I wanted to import these into my Lightroom library (LR5), but have been unable to do so.

I am trying to import them the same way I import RAW digital files, but when I try that way, they won't import. The only way they import is when there is no destination file set and they are simply stuck in a general "New Folder". Even when I try to simply rename the "new folder" to something more specific I am unable to do so.
I just bought a website template and there are certain files that won't open in gimp like psd's and even some png's and jpg's (though the ones I need most do). My girlfriend was able to open the psd's in photoshop. Anyway to get all these files to open in gimp?
I've attached the psd, the png and jpgs wont attach (maybe because they are tiny 70 byte files that dont matter). (Im using Windows 7 64 bit)
I wish to create a textlogo and don't know how to get if formatted like I want. The text is 2words using the Bremen Bd true type font style. What I'm trying to do is have the top of the text square blocked and the bottom curved. The logo would look like it's sitting on a half moon crescent.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to figure out the best way to clean some scans of old books in order to be able to reprint them. The final result I'm aiming at is B/W or grayscale images.
The most problematic is the ink passing through the paper that makes it harder to read.
The most efficient way I had found until now is to use the separate+ plugin, keep only the C and/or K layers and merge them as the brown spot have much less blue than the actual ink. But in this sample, the colors are too close.
In theory, something that I think is possible but how to differentiate dark places with sharp edges (actual writing) from the ones with soft edges (ink passing through) that would be blanked.

I'm using Vista 32. After updating to CS4 I can no longer open jpg files directly into PS by clicking on the file in windows explorer or an e-mail. After much searching and looking for file associations, I was able to get jpgs to open into Bridge from windows explorer, but still cannot get them to open directly in PS. When I attempt to open a jpg from an e-mail message, I get a window in Bridge pointed to a temp folder.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI can get Photoshop CS2 to open up and work fine. Only, I cannot get it to open any files up. .jpgs, .pngs, and even .psds don't open. It says that there is a program error, and it doesn't say what that error is exactly.
I've tried "Open As" and tried to open the files as something different but that didn't work at all. I can open up images in ImageReady, yet I can't transfer them back to Photoshop to work on them. It also won't allow me to create a new canvas, (the same message pops up).
I recently moved, but I'm not sure if that would have caused any issue for Photoshop to act up like this. Everything else on the computer works fine and dandy. And it hasn't ever done anything like this before.
I'd rather not have to uninstall and then reinstall it,
would like to have Gimp open a specific folder (in my camera's SD card) and display thumbnails of the JPGs in that folder, so that I can click on the one I want to work on and have it open full size.

When I attempt to do this the image doesn't show up in the receiving window and disappears from the originating window. I also tried to do a regular copy and paste between open windows and that doesn't work either.

I want to know if that's an equivalent to the similar JPG quality setting in Photoshop? View 4 Replies View RelatedI have about 40GB of .jpegs and some Photoshop files that I can no longer open. When I try to open the .jpegs, Photoshop says Invalid JPEG marker. Windows Picture Viewer says no preview available. Internet Explorer just shows a small x in the corner. Others like IrfanView or Paint and say things like Image Header Corrupted or Invalid File Type. I have tried a dozen applications with no luck. I have tried several recovery tools with no luck. The files themselves are still there. The dates are correct and the file sizes are correct. They just can’t be previewed or opened. When I open them in wordpad, the screen is empty. When I open them with a Hex editor, I get all 0’s in the middle section and dots in the right section. When I zip them, the compressed file is still relatively large so there must be some data there.
I had the files on a hard drive (D) that I use for storage. My computer got zapped with a virus or spyware that I was unable to remove so I reformatted my system drive (C) and reinstalled a fresh version of Windows XP. I have done this a half dozen times over the years on several different computers with no problems. This time was different. After Windows installed, I got a screen that said something about orphaned files and that Windows was updating them or renaming them. It scrolled for about an hour through all of my .jpegs.
After this was finished I could not open about half of my .jpegs on the D drive. (I have a backup off most of my files but there about 1,000 shots that I hadn’t back up yet.)
Does anyone have any clues as to what happened or how I can open these files?
When I open a jpeg or tiff, from Premiere to photoshop, and make some modifications (like simply mode to grayscale) and try to save it back to the jpeg it refuses, saying the file is locked and I should go to Explorer, properties and unlock. However the files are not locked in the properties, so my only choice is to save as another file, re-load it itno Premiere, and put it on the timeline. I used to be able to edit directly from Premier to Photoshop, and save - on CS3!

So, I have used Gimp to downsize large architectural drawing images from Tiff's to jpgs. Well, I always thought I was downsizing them. In the past, the process always seemed to make the files more usable in the application where I need to use the architectural drawings without a significant loss in quality.
I will open a tiff in Gimp, save as jpg, export if prompted, then select quality of 40 or 50 percent, and the result is a usable file that is significantly smaller than the source tiff file.Today, the source tiff which is 900 mb in size is being converted to jpg which is 6 or 7 mb in size, totally unusable.
Additionally, if I simply open the source in Gimp, save it to another directory from Gimp without making any changes, the file also grows to 6 or 7 mb. What am I doing wrong this morning that I have not been doing wrong for the last 6 months?
Using version 2.6.11 in Ubuntu 10.10 if that matters.I have a version of 2.7 on my Windows XP OS, and it will lock up trying to open these drawings.
It's curious, because, at 900 MB, I typically can use the drawings without even altering or downsizing them.What I really cannot understand is why Gimp is causing unaltered files to grow in size when saving them.

It is possible to import WRL on a 32 bit computer unfortunately it doest not on a 64 bit.
Now, I would like to know if 3dsMax 2012 on 64 bit can import WRL?
It used to be that I could take any ,jpg file, then save it as a .png so that I would have a transparent background in order to render the pic. Now, for whatever reason, when converted the background remains white. What setting has changed that I can no longer get a transparent background after the .png conversion? Gimp V. 2.6.8.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a weird problem with Photoshop CS. When I double-click on a tiff, jpeg, or Photoshop file it launches the program, but it won't open the image. In order to do that I must go to file and choose open. This is much more trouble. I can't figure out why. My photoshop guru friend couldn't figure out why. Any ideas?
Also, and this may or may not be related. When I open the program I get the following message: For Photoshop UI to display correctly, open System Preferences, click General, and turn off text smoothing for font sizes 8 and smaller.
The weird thing is, when I did what message suggested, I discovered that there was no "text smoothing" option to turn off under Preference (under General) in Photoshop. There is no General in the computer's System Preferences, so I'm assuming the message refers to Photoshop Preferences.

View 8 Replies View RelatedOn PC_71, While ploting(creating the pdf via autocad) the pdf,its everytime coming in portait format but we want in landscape format.
On PC_71, if we create the pdf of any document by our Adobe pdf printer PRT13 then its creating pdf properly for both portait and landscape format . But for any autocad drawing file , the pdf printer PRT13 is not creating in landscape format.
I also cross-checked all plot setting with other proper working PC , its same then also its behave differently.
And if we create pdf on any other PC then its creating the pdf properly for any drawing but not on PC_71.
Also 1 more typical point I noticed that if we delete any pdf file from PC_71, then after refreshing its again appeared on same location.
Note - We are using:
Software : Â Autocad 2012-64Bit , Naviswork 2013 , Inventor Ultimate 2014-64 Bit , Bentley Autoplant V8i - SS4 version : 8.11.9.140 ,MS-Office 2010 - 64 Bit.
