View 8 Repliesas a casual user of maya, i regularly import .iges files from other 3D modelling programs. in past versions (specifically maya 2011), the .iges import/export bundle was located under the plug-in manager; however, i cannot locate this in maya 2012.

It is possible to import WRL on a 32 bit computer unfortunately it doest not on a 64 bit.
Now, I would like to know if 3dsMax 2012 on 64 bit can import WRL?
I currently am porting all my engine code from "XNA" to native C++ DirectX 11.1 for Windows Store App's and my question is basically what format does the industry use for Exporting their models (animated/skinned) in Maya to use with their game engines that are on DirectX. I preferably would almost think writing a Wavefront .obj imported in c++ would be the best route to take as its the native format in Maya for exporting models correct? Just looking for some insight before I attempt to roll something up here. I see Microsoft seems to want to use the .SDKMESH format which they have a loader for in their DirectX TK toolkit but I HIGHLY doubt Maya supports exporting in SDKMESH format. They also have a tool for converting FBX files to SDKMESH so I guess that is an option if I want to have to export in FBX then convert to SDKMESH just to see something not export/convert correctly with all those paths of resistance.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm new to Maya and the 3D design environment. I'm going thru the online tutorials and built the sample Greek temple. I have a MakerBot replicator 2. I did convert the Nurbs to polygons for the column bases and the temple roof. I exported the individual pieces to obj format to print. My question involves the export of the roof/torus group. The "roof" is not smooth but slightly faceted (I'm not using the correct jargon here I'm sure). It's kind of tortoise shell like in smoothness. What do I adjust during export so the rood object comes over smoother?
I'd attach the roof file but the site doesnt allow for some reason.
I've installed the student version of Maya 2012 on my computer (windows 7). At first, it was working fine but one day, I tried to Save As and Maya wasn't responding anymore... Had to go in the Task Manager to shut it down and when I did, it told me that the program wasn't responding. Later on, I found out that the problem wasn't only with the Save As function, but with every function that requires Maya to browse on my computer (Set Project, Open Scene, New Project, Create Reference, browsing textures, etc). I tried to uninstall and re-install Maya, did not work, delete the Maya folder in my documents, did not work, allow Maya in my firewall, did not work, even deactivate my firewall, did not work..
View 4 Replies View RelatedOn PC_71, While ploting(creating the pdf via autocad) the pdf,its everytime coming in portait format but we want in landscape format.
On PC_71, if we create the pdf of any document by our Adobe pdf printer PRT13 then its creating pdf properly for both portait and landscape format . But for any autocad drawing file , the pdf printer PRT13 is not creating in landscape format.
I also cross-checked all plot setting with other proper working PC , its same then also its behave differently.
And if we create pdf on any other PC then its creating the pdf properly for any drawing but not on PC_71.
Also 1 more typical point I noticed that if we delete any pdf file from PC_71, then after refreshing its again appeared on same location.
Note - We are using:
Software : Autocad 2012-64Bit , Naviswork 2013 , Inventor Ultimate 2014-64 Bit , Bentley Autoplant V8i - SS4 version : 8.11.9.140 ,MS-Office 2010 - 64 Bit.

I have a Fedora 17 distro installed on a couple of different machines. I am unable to open pictures and scans, I have, which are in 'jpeg/jpg' format. I understand the saving/exporting thing, but I am unable to even open them.
I am using Kernel 3.6.6-1.fc17.x86_64 and Gnome 3.4.2. The version of Gimp I am using is 2.8.2-6.fc17.
I was working on setup up several camera animations in a file. I saved the file, and put the settings in for all 4 cameras to render. I started Batch Render running, it saved, began rendering the first frame and then Maya crashed. It was able to save a .mb version as it was closing. I have since been unable to get either file to open correctly.
If I try to directly open the files, they load 100%, the status bar immediately switches to "Writing <username>.20110503.<time>.ma" and the Crash Reporter appears before the viewport can even update and show the model.
If I try importing either file into a new document, it will load completely, and a dialog window pops up with: Could not save file"/var/folders/FL/FLo7J2o4H4OV9SDiREDU4U+++TI/-Tmp-/thompirson.20110503.1216.ma".
If you click OK, Maya crashes without the Crash Reporter opening.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was just doing a bunch of test renders and playing with lights when a weird render turned up out of nowhere that is sort of a transparent red and black? This happened yesterday, but it actually crashed maya. This time around, it didn't crash, but I'm unable to save my scene. This is the log for the error:

I have a student license for Autodesk Maya 2012 (I'll need it for school), but whenever I try and start up the setup, I get this weird message:
error 1321. The installer has insufficient privileges to modify the file C:Program FilesAutodeskMaya2012PYTHON_LICENSE
Then the following message:
Fatal error during installation. #229: failed to run AdskExecuteSequence
Then "Failed to initialize Autodesk Maya 2012"
And then it the installation exits itself out.
I have a 32bit Windows computer.
I just got Maya 2012 student edition. I created a quick rig with the default maya settings (Skeleton gen, Characterization tool, Character controls).
The position of the rig doesn't update until I let go of the controls. On other rigs the rig updates real time.
We have been generating technical illustrations using Mental Ray in Maya 2011 with brilliant results. The studio upgraded to Maya 2012 and we now find that when we render any existing scenes, or any new scenes using entirely Maya 2012 nodes, we don't have any contour lines.
Our scenes are setup as follows:
Materials - Contour_Shader_Simple.outValue > ShadingGroup.miContourShader
Cameras - Contour_Composite.message > Camera.miOutputShader
Render Globals - Mental Ray Tab > Contours > Contrast Shader > Contour_Contrast_Function_Levels
Render Globals - Mental Ray Tab > Contours > Store Shader > Contour_Store_Function
why the scenes now don't have any contour lines?
The video pretty much explains it. Randomly when I move the pivot (d) and snap to point (v) it crashes on mouse release. This has been happening recently more than is acceptable.
I included about 30 seconds up to the issue to show what exactly I was doing before the crash.
I have down loaded the program (Maya 2012 Student Version ) but most of the time when I click on some icons, I got the message as follows: " The file being saved was created by a Student Version of Maya intended for personal learning only. If you save the file, this message will always appear whenever the file is opened.”since I am not saving the files, I am just clicking some icons, I don't know why I got this message. It makes me so inconvenient to use this program because I got this Pop up screen almost every 10 seconds though.
View 3 Replies View Relatedhe creates a cylinder where the side faces have only one subdivision, meaning each of the 20 side faces are a single rectangle with no subdivisions. Then he wants to add a subdivision around the entire cylinder. He clicks on a icon and touches one of the edges of one of the faces and there appears a subdivision around the entire cylinder. Not only that but he can take his mouse and move that ring up or down to whatever position he wants. In this case he moved it up close to the top to sharpen the resulting smoothing.
I cant find the icon in 2012. Where is the command to do this located?
Maya 2012 new features video shows that craft animation tools is new feature in Maya 2012, but i cannot find it inside Maya 2012, is the plugin integrated with Maya 2012 or need to install it after installation? Should i download craft animation tools for Maya 2012 or ?

1-st frame - starting pose
24-th frame - starting pose
and then somewhere at frame 12 change position of 3 bones and set a keyframe

I am working back in forth between school, and my home student version of Maya. I just downloaded Maya 2012, and I can not open a file in 2011 that was created in 2012?? I already opened the option box under OPEN, and selected ignore version. And it still doesn't work. I never had this problem last semester with 2011 files, working with 2010 Maya.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trialing the DG&P of xara. I am creating embroidery files in another software. I need to import in .emf. Most of my clipart, etc that I use is jpeg or png. I am wanting to take those into a program, create the vector file, and import to the embroidery software so that I can manipulate/simplify how I need to to create the stitch out. So, when I am in xara and I bring the image in, I select all and choose export in the .emf format....I figured that out. But, when I bring it into the other software I have a blank page. So, I figure I am missing something. Is there a quick way to convert the outline I bring in (in png) to vectors so that it can export and be manipulated in the other software in .emf? or do I trace the file in xara as I would in the other software, have a rough sketch, and then export? Where is the best info on what to do? I am pretty good at following tutorials and lessons but before I buy I just want to make sure it does what I am wanting it to do.
